Two years ago I was in Massachusetts (I'm from CT) and tge walmart in Springfield had 23 Ozark trails for $1 each. Bought all of them. Since then, I have given people "high end" knives . Everybody is happy.
My local WM finally got these... I picked up 3. I have been EDC'ing and using this knife at work for a couple weeks. I am an engineer and every week I need to open boxes for my prototype parts. Cutting tasks vary from corrugated cardboard, packing tape, plastic ESD bags... to 1" thick plastic pallet straps. This knife does dull but a quick touch up on ceramic rods and a strop and its beard shaving sharp. I would say it holds a service-able edge well enough for my needs, and CERTAINLY very well for a $6 knife. Biggest surprise has been how well finished it is. The liners, thumb stud, axis lock, pocket clip are all de-burred and smoothed over really nicely. No hot edge spots at all. The spine has a sharp 90 degree edge... Great for bushcraft wood scraping and strikes a ferro rod outstanding. Somehow I managed to bend the pocket clip sideways. I dont know how this happened, it never caught or snagged on anything. I just bent it back straight by hand and re-tightened the two screws... good as new. There's a TON of YT hype on this... for my needs it has 100% lived up to the hype.
"No reason for these cut-outs" - That you can think of. I could think of one as soon as I saw it: If you have cordage going through it the holes and leading out in a loop towards the rear of the handle, that cordage will sit flat at the same height as the scales, rather than sit proud, which might be annoying in the pocket and create a hotspot. It also somewhat protects the lanyard material from being constantly scuffed if it sat proud.
Mine is silky smooth and came hair shaving sharp out of the packaging. Hell of a deal, I’m sure Edge retention is prob average but at under 6 bucks the quality of this is crazy good.
I've seen videos of this knife and put one up myself. It seems like the quality control is all over the places. Mine was definitely worth the $5.94, but it seems like others had better luck with the lock.
Unfortunately wasn't available at the walmart i went to this morning, will keep looking. I love carrying decent sub $20 knives for traveling abroad, where they have iffy carry laws; and when going to events but idk if they have metal detectors/scanners. Yeah I'll cry over $20, but not as much as $200, lol. Thanks for the daily vids :)
@@SteenSpinal4LIFE Why not? Not all events have scanners. I've been to a mate's wedding that had security and scanners; also been to edc where although they had wands, they'd just let people though. I carry for work and a knife is just another tool. Of course, I wouldn't carry if I'm going to jury duty, or if I'm going to watch a ball game. But most other times I'd carry if there's no stated regulations against it.
Found out about these a few days ago when a knife guy said it was part of his daily rotation. This year I have purchased several knives made in China for American companies. So far, not a fault. My latest is a Rough Rider Reserve 007 Nomad. This thing is beautiful and does not have a fault...Granted it is $45 but seems much more expensive. I believe with the Internet and the growth of knife channels, manufacturers have tightened up their act and are producing a lot of quality at a decant price.
A few months ago here in Decatur illinois only one of our walmarts was selling the ozark knives and multi tools for $2 each. I bought 2 knives and a small blue handle multi tool. I use these at work and if I lose it or break it, no biggie. I'll get more. I was carrying my kershaw brawler I bought for $5 but worried that I would lose it or break it. Great videos. Well educational. Keep it up.
Love mine, I bought quite a few to send out to some of my followers who can’t get them. I noticed the plunge grinds aren’t consistent so I try and make sure those are decent before getting them.
Ozark makes a great little flipper as well with snappy action. "7 inch folding knife." At Walmart. They make a really good Smiff and Wesson as well for about 20 bucks at Walmart. It's like a stone washed finish.....very sturdy build, and no branding.
I'm a full on knife snob and I like this thing, noticed the lock so I had to grab it and to my surprise its centered, locks up solid, no lock stick, Wich is more than I can say for both of my griptilians, not that it's been put through any work yet

I heard that for some reason even Walmarts that sell knives and sporting goods don't have the "axis lock" Ozark Trail knives. I checked mine yesterday and they didn't have one but could just been out. I seen on another knife channel that I've never watched that did a review on them that there is a model with black g10 scales that is a lil different but has the same lock mech. Anyways, my wallyworld has clearance fishing and other summer stuff too and I also scored several pairs of shorts lol. See that's why we all love ya Jeff, you're a regular dude like us that buys and does the same stuff. I think we all "talk too much" sometimes (see). This got long so I'll go. Mine was ridiculously stiff out of the package but a little tweaking of the screws and a few drops of oil and it’s nearly benchmade smooth now. Have a great weekend Jeff ( & Fam ) 👍🏻👍🏻

I've bought countless knives and lost all most all the knifes I've ever carried.... Cheap knives work for people like me... When you lose a Benchmade your soul feels it

I'm pleased that the one I picked up is good in all respects. One thing that concerns me is if/when the omega springs break, what then? Maybe I should pick up a couple spares, while they are still available.

It's like getting 1/3 each design blend of a Civivi Elementum, Benchmade Bugout, and Hogue Deka.... with crap blade steel and handle, but it's only $6, so you know that you have to get it. Yes...indeed I do.

Probably depends on which tan flipper you're referring to, they have made several over the years. I have #8604 rubberized handle , 2021 "olive-khaki" flipper that I EDC in and out of rotation. Two very different designs. At 2 ounces the 8604 flipper is noticeably lighter, has better grip/traction, and is tip down carry... All to my preference. But it doesn't seem quite as durable / robust overall. I would consider all these OT knives medium-light duty only... FWIW. Hopefully WM can get more back in stock. They seem to be running out just about everywhere.
Any new data on the series of stainless employed in this blade? I took mine to a leather straup with BarkRiver 12k compound and will easily shave now. I also put a drop of KPL on pivot and it flicks as good as my Bugout. Perfect centering. Good knife. Great review and thanks for sharing.

I finally found one of these, definitely dull though. I’ve gotten mine to where I can barely cut paper. Anyone know how to better quickly remove material from the blade edge? Right now I’ve done prolly 2500 swipes on a Sharpmaker, it’s very time consuming haha. I’d guess im maybe halfway to getting a kinda decent edge on it, would love to more quickly get to a roughly working edge that I could then finish and make shaving sharp on the Sharpmaker.
I'm sad that this is a seasonal item only. Really disappointing that something like a $6 pocket knife is 'seasonal' for the biggest corporation in the world. I saw them in store around the holidays but passed on it then. I wanted to get one to compare to my recently-acquired Schrade Divergent axis lock knife, but I guess Walmart prefers to sell $4 meme knives instead. Oh well, just eight more months until next Christmas. Then I'll buy a dozen for myself like all the other greedy people in this comments section.

well, lol, fit, finish, and materials do make a difference, where tis made doesnt...the $5 chinese knife will cut stuff but the $200 chinese knife will cut stuff for longer and feel better when your doing it...
I got a defcon hydra fixed blade in d2 made in china got it for 50 bucks online and if it was 6.5" instead of 5" it would be my fav knife. It is d2 it will bend under tension while keeping its form and needs sharpened less than my other knives like my buck 110.

@Druidic Civivi Elementum is always in my pocket and she is not rotated like the other knives I carry. QSP Penguin is part of my rotation.

I'm using some cheap knife similar to this. I just sharpen it whenever it gets dull. Works just fine!

I bought that knife twice and returned it. I guess I need to carry it for a few days. I'm going today to buy it again

There is one Ozark Trail better than this which is their ball bearing flipper. It’s the same price at $5 and change. Both are amazing value.

Agreed! I stick to Kershaw as a sweet spot. 25 bucks or so and lasts a good while.
