4:04 Oh yes there is VR support & it runs just as sweet. Mr Heusinkveld has a video on it from a couple of years ago. It's a crew chief plugin, super easy to install. I totally agree with you that AMS1 is a fantastic experience.
Seeing a Brazilian studio breaking into the global simulation scene while also providing content related to the country's motorsport culture was awesome. I live 20 minutes away from Tarumã and having it be replicated 1:1 inside a game is not something that happens very often.
@@SimRacing604 Unfortunately it's been a long time since I've last gone into the circuit itself despite passing in front of it on my way back from university, but track days and other events happen there all the time.
Echo that. My friends always call for iracing, assetto and F1 matches. And everytime I come with "hey try this" and after 3 races everybody's into AMS1. Great simple game.
I nearly always mention AMS1 when I make a comment on this channel. It's my circuit sim game of choice. I have Assetto Corsa, I tried AMS 2 and RFactor 2 and uninstalled all of them. They are Style over Substance racing simulations. Where as AMS1 is a pure simulation with no fluff and it does everything well. The aforementioned sims either have bad AI, bad car handling, bad car damage model or bad UI. AMS1 doesn't have these problems that's why it's the best racing sim in my opinion. Newer doesn't always mean Better.
It's not an exaggeration to say that we were really bummed out when they announced that AMS 2 is switching over to Madness Engine. Don't get me wrong, AMS 2 is very advanced. Probably one of the most advanced sim out there but it simply doesn't feel the same. The most important part of any racing simulator is the feeling of like you're in the car itself. Even if you're only using a wheel, stuck on your table with no fancy motion rig or anything. It feels THAT good. It doesn't need all those advanced simulations that you cannot see and feel.

Many thanks for the reminder on this one, though it sits above AMS2 in my Steam library, so i do get reminders. What I"d forgotten is how great it drives and I'll most definitely give it an reinstall today, just for nostalgia really.
I always find myself going back to AMS1. I havent tried 2 yet because one is just so good that I dont have a need to try the new installment. Graphics dont really bother me because I boot up a sim to race, not to look at the pretty leaves and meet the crowd. Im more of a GT style racer but my absolute favorite car in sim racing is the Cart Extreme mod. That with T/C off and a decent pedal control is a blast around any track.
Mike AMS has never left my hard drive ! once set up properly it feels great ... and it has some unique content ... Mendig is pretty awesome ! and the go karts are some of the best.
No one plays it because it has no gameplay. No single player. No multiplayer. Just barebones systems like most sims. Great handling will only keep you interested for a few hours. After that you need something to keep you hooked. Like ranked races for Raceroom, or LFM for ACC, or career mode in PC2 and F1 games. Or like entire iRacing competitive system.
The sound replication is insane - especially with SuperV8 cars. Im hoping they put out no3 b4 too long. Graphics need to be way better, but the actual game play is very engaging
I will agree that most over look this game! I have been slowly working FFB profiles for each racing games I have bought for my SC2 Pro wheel base. When I got to AMS1, I first thought oh most people recommend the realfeel plugin so it's going to be like RF1 and a mess for FFB. I was BLOWN AWAY by how good it felt when driving! I even tried kart racing just to see and it was even good for that. I recommend others to try and there are still plenty of mods out there available (not the same can be said about RF1 since most of its great sites have went down).
I love Reiza and AMS2 is enjoyable, but AMS1 for me is superior to AMS2. Not necessarily in FFB but more in the actual physics. It just feels more connected somehow....
100% didn't get the attention it deserved. VR Plugin, Crew Chief and other content mods really make it a great package. I don't return to it enough now that AMS2 has had major improvements (my go to single player game currently), but still waiting for a chunk of content to be ported to AMS2 such as Stadium Super Trucks, Rallycross and few locations. Live for Speed needs more love too (also works on a potato), and it's still getting updates.
AMS 1 is great but I love Game stock car even better! I wish for AMS 2 they would’ve licensed Rfactor 2 instead and given it a proper user interface instead of using the madness engine
What configuration do you have with T818? I can't do anything without breaking my arms. I don't understand very well ffb in this game, it's amazing equally Great video
RBR became RBR due to the lack of newer realistic rally simulations. All newer rally sims have less realistic physics, making them less accurate simulations. AMS1 has many competitors that simulate circuit racing pretty well, so I think it's unlikely that the game will have much of a player base in the future. In fact, people say that the multiplayer is already dead.
Create one big resolution with bezel compensation in your gfx control panel in Windows, then select this bezel compensated resolution in the AMS config while ticking 'multiview' there. Reduce FOV in game to about ~35 ish if your actual monitor FOV is about ~180 ish.
Does anyone have a DD1 profile and game settings they would share? I haven't been able to get this feeling right since swaping away from my thrustmaster
I think sunk cost fallacy, and general lack of time, fuels a lot of sim racing habits. Someone who spent a thousand dollars on content in iRacing for example, is going to want to keep "getting their money's worth" out of iRacing and not randomly switch to a different sim. Even if they dislike iRacing. There's also the time aspect. I have almost every relevant racing sim installed on my PC, past and present, including PS2 emulation and all of the different racing games it entails, except rFactor 2 (basically because the AI doesn't work). It's just not possible for me to "spread the love" unless I quit my job and dedicated 16 hours each day to sim racing. AMS 1, I agree, is great. I've streamed a couple full length races on it. Just not practical to play it regularly.
Great video as always, I'll definitely take a look at this, buuuuuut..... Is that a SHH shifter I see in the background? I have one of these permanently in my cart so if you're reviewing one then your video will be the deciding factor! 😅
@@aogsimracing5663 thank you! I've been concerned by the fact that it's not by a brand that I'm familiar with so it's great to hear another's opinion 👍
Mike, I'd love to know how you think the physics/handling compare to AMS2. Reiza seem to think they've got them to feel the same, but many (eg Jimmy Broadbent) put AMS1 forward as much more realistic.
Yeah, I’d have to agree. I really love AMS2, but for different reasons. The feeling of connection with the car is far higher in AMS1. But you can’t beat the weather effects and content selection of #2
@@SimRacing604 Thanks for the reply. Sounds like Reiza still haven't quite nailed it then. I do hope they get there, as it seems to be holding back AMS2 adoption. I've held out on AMS1 purely because I have too many sims to play already! I'm happy to have rF2 as my realistic sim, with AMS2 as my fun sim.
this game is really amazing! but the only reason I don't play it is because I have a g29, and logitech G hub hates older games... the ffb simply refuses to work . this really makes miss this game =/
About the fate of this title, I am pretty sure there are comunities that won't forget it any time soon. I know this because there are Brazilian leagues that use it to this day...
rF1 was such a mess in terms of physics. Reiza did magic with AMS2 recently (but it's a simcade, like pC were). I guess they were able to do it a magic rF1 back then too. Still AC and rF2 - next generation from rF1. But thanks for heads up, will get AMS for collection on next sale.
I installed it today after i teste the new gt7 physics Model wich is not good i hoped it goes in direction of iracing. I bought and Start ams1 today . I hope its more like iracing. Iracing is fantastic, but too expensive
The AI has serious problems with being lapped that never got fixed which is really holding this back, so single player multiclass is just not possible.
Doesnt look that bad to me. I've played all AC, ACC, iR, AMS2, R3E, PC, PC2, rf2 and therefor I could never really justify buying another sim (what else could it offer?), but I'll try now just because Im curious to what it's like driving.
I really want to play AMS1, but I only have G29, and it's terrible with this game. When I enter the race, all force feedback effects are lost except very strong center spring. I tried using beta version of the game to no avail. Tried uninstalling Ghub and install LGS, it didn't work, and even screwed up AMS2 and Assetto Corsa. Even reinstall the whole OS doesn't work. The game is in my library for half a year, and I only play it for 3 hours. It's sad that Reiza seems to abandon this game completely.
I have a G29 and it feels fine to me, but I had to tweak the FFB settings because the default ones felt absolutely awful. I don't remember everything from the top of my head, but setting the FFB to 360Hz Pure and turning the clipping up quite a bit (it's meant to make weak wheels like the G29 feel more detailed) made the FFB so great, I'd rank it second best (behind rF2) of all the sims I've tried.

AMS1 nailed in all. Fantastic simulator I always come back to it
Taruma is such a fun circuit!
Where can I get mods for this game tracks, cars etc: ? I played FR1 to death if this squeezers some more life out of the engine I'll head back.
I have an SHH, mostly use it as a sequential, but it’s nice to have the H option. Pull the trigger! You won’t be disappointed.
The game that me into the hobby. Still my favorite.
this game is really amazing!
but the only reason I don't play it is because I have a g29, and logitech G hub hates older games... the ffb simply refuses to work .
this really makes miss this game =/
hey, what car were you driving?
It’s the Boxer Cup. Base content
Don't forget their 1st Game: Stock Car Extreme... still a good cheap Racer with a ton of Mods... Cheers...
since you've now fully experienced older titles like AMS and GTR2, which one do you think feels better?
Great question. It’s close. Probably AMS1, but I wouldn’t die defending that stance. I’d need to do a more thorough review of GTR2
I love AMS1. Can't drive AMS2 🤷♂️
Seen less than a minut of the video but I agree on all you I imagine are saying about AM1😂.
Yes this game feels very nice! I kinda prefer it over 2
I installed it today after i teste the new gt7 physics Model wich is not good i hoped it goes in direction of iracing. I bought and Start ams1 today . I hope its more like iracing. Iracing is fantastic, but too expensive
Better than ams 2 other than graphics
The AI has serious problems with being lapped that never got fixed which is really holding this back, so single player multiclass is just not possible.
I loved driving the Marcas is this game some years ago! Excellent and simple racing class for close combat!
I miss the Marca's from AMS2... and sucks they likely won't come since the series no longer exists (replaced by TCR South America).
I agree AMS1 is an outstanding sim
The only reason I don't play this game is because ffb is completely borked on g29/g920
Doesnt look that bad to me. I've played all AC, ACC, iR, AMS2, R3E, PC, PC2, rf2 and therefor I could never really justify buying another sim (what else could it offer?), but I'll try now just because Im curious to what it's like driving.
I actually like this better than RF2.
You have to install a specific LGS version, had the same exact problem and totally solved it. Let me know if you need help
I play it because it is all my laptop can handle
and you do not said that it has the better AI, much more than AC for example !
