“People” with periods? Really? You don’t realize how insulting it is to women that we no longer own the word. Who else besides women can have periods? Trans men and biologically women…it’s a powerful thing Nature. And saying does not negate trans. Denying the feeling of so many women for the feelings of the few who are triggered by this word is monstrous and anti feminist.

I really appreciate Jess trying the underwear. As another person who can also have some really heavy periods, albeit with less pain that Jess said she gets, I was super hesitant to try any because I wasn't sure if they'd hold up to the flow or not, and I'm not in a place where I can afford to lose money to try things like that. It's also hard to find them in my size as a plus size girlie or if I can then they're, again, extremely outside of my price range.
I also appreciate having Jess in this video because I'm also a person who only uses pads. I've tried using tampons and other insertables, and I just don't like the feeling of them, so there is no other option for me at this point. It's nice to see that representation because sometimes it really does seem like we're the odd ones out for just doing what works for us, so I genuinely thank you guys for including a spectrum of ladies in this video

I really highly recommend the Modibodi brand - they go up to a AU26 or something from memory, and lots of different flow strengths.
What I like about them compared to other brands I’ve tried is that the absorbent area is merino wool…. It’s really comfortable, not smelly, environmentally friendly and draws moisture away better than other materials.

as a poor person, period underwear is saving me a ton of money. 6 pairs for $30 each vs $30 of pads and tampons every month....i've had my period undies for maybe 3 years now? they are also significantly more comfortable. cleaner as well. you don't have to change it every few hours. i wear one for daytime and one for nighttime. my period went from a week long to 3 days and very light. it's bc of the pads and tampons that make your period so heavy and long. give it a chance.

So easy to get in and out and it’s made my periods so much better. I think it’s totally based on your “shape” inside. Maybe that’s why disks didn’t work for Rachel but cups do. @@tiffanymackey2083 I wonder if this is an anatomy quirk, I haven't had that issue with #2 before, but you two are definitely not the only ones either based on all the reviews I read before getting mine! My seating issues have only been from #1, I learned pretty early on that I need to empty my bladder before inserting, OR ELSE! tmi version below:
Your bladder can press on it, which can cause it to leak if you don't pee often enough while it's inserted, but it was one of my first few cycles with a cup, and I didn't realize the pressure of a relatively full bladder would also prevent a seal upon insertion... until one day by chance I inserted first, THEN went #1, and it torpedoed out of me comically fast, so I had to re-boil it 🤣I had JUST got it cooled down from its original boil-of-the-month, so... at least the pan was still out 😂 Now I always hit the toilet first, even if I don't think I really need to, THEN insert, luckily never had the same issue again (although it only took one incident to condition me to be ready to catch it any time it shifts on the john, hahaha)

      @hran94 3 дні тому +4

@hesfra I started using the disc because I couldn’t figure out the suction for the cup. I had a disposable disc that I had been given and gave that a try and got it to work on the very first try and haven’t gone back. I also like that it “empties” itself so I don’t need to worry about it leaking. I have the Saalt disc that I love but it’s also nice having the disposable option when I’m on the go and it’s a product that I’m used to.
At the end of the day, I think it’s just personal preference and if you already have a cup and are totally happy with it, it might not make sense to switch but I think it’s a great option for people who don’t love (or can’t figure out) the suction part of the cup.

Menstrual cup girly here! Die hard in fact. But im currently on day 3/4 of my period and I’ve been trying a reusable Flex disc for the first time and honestly im impressed. I have a very heavy flow, day 2 especially. And yes it’s a bit messier but removal and insertion is rated higher for me with the disc than the cup🤷🏽‍♀️Way less leaks with the disc tho for me, BECAUSE of the self emptying aspect. My cup gets too full too fast on my heavy days that it’s not worth it but with the disc I didn’t have that issue. Not sure if im a full convert but it’s my experience so far!

Friendly suggestion: It would have been nice to know how the period underwear would hold up while you're walking out and about and with different outfits as some people may need to wear them to work/school, run errands, and/or while they're doing chores.

Okay first issue, the disposable disc, not good. And it sounds like you weren't getting it under the cervix. If it was knocking out of place so much and so hard to get it to stay tucked behind your pubic bone, that's my guess. I definitely took a few periods to get it in properly, its a very different insertion from the cup in terms of insertion angle. A reusable disc is so good though i swear.

21:05 I love menstrual discs! Personally I found cups to give me cramps and I always leaked, I could never find the right placement after 2 years of trying to position it differently. I find the disc so much easier to insert, more comfortable and no leaks. I use the reusable disc by Saalt (I think, it’s at target). So interesting how different it can be from person to person.

Love hearing all your thoughts. My go tos are period panties or cloth pads. I started sewing my own cloth pads about 8 years ago and have made my own period panties the past 2 years. I tried a cup 8 years ago and it got stuck, had to go to the ER to get it removed. Dr's had a hard time getting it out. I don't know how I got it in to begin with. It took so many tries. Turns out I have vaginismus which is part of why it got stuck. Because of the vaginismus tampons dont work for me cause i feel them all the time. I did do 2 years of pelvic floor pt in 2020-2022 that has helped some with vaginismus, its still something i deal with. This summer I tried a reusable disk and it works better for my body because there is no suction. I've used the for 2 cycles only on my heavy days. My period is very clotted so it only really comes out when I pee. So the emptying when I pee is a very usual feeling for me. I do like it as a teacher because then I'm not gushing and running to the bathroom all the time. Period undies are by far my favorite!

Sierra, I would recommend trying out a different fold method for inserting the cup. Coming from someone who has used a cup since I was 13, and I'm 21 now, the method they suggest SUCKS. I typically use the "punch down" method, and it just makes the cup into a significantly better shape to insert than the C-Fold. You can look up menstrual cup folds and see which one works and feels easier for you!

I remember my first attempt to get a period cup in (I practiced a week before my period) and because I was nervous, I tensed up and it was soooo hard to get it to pop open, all the way up to where it’s supposed to be, and where I couldn’t feel it.
Now as a veteran period cup user (almost 10 years now), it has been a GAME CHANGER. I love that I can put it in at 7am, take out, clean, and put back in at 7pm and then do it again the next morning. It’s been very rare that I’ve leaked and the times I have it’s because I’ve had a heavier flow than I was expecting and leaked around hour 10.
I tried a reusable disc and absolutely hated it. It was so hard to get it to not leak, to get it in a comfortable position, and to ensure I had it tucked behind my public bone and not blocking my cervix. I got it because it was advertised as “mess free sex” and my man could feel it and it was just not an enjoyable experience because I couldn’t get it out after lol

I got an IUD last year, and haven't had a period since, which has been nice. Before that, I had Thnix, which yeah, is an investment, but if you go in the build a set, you get a discount. Plus there's the different thicknesses for different amounts, so having a knowledge of your cycle, you can build a set that works for you. Though I didn't know itw as supposed to be just for 30 uses, I think I might have used the older ones more that that, plus I put them in the dryer a few times and they still held up.

Period products after kids sucked for me. After my 2 kids I couldn't wear the cup or tampons, too uncomfortable. Over 6 years I found out that I was steadily prolapsing to stage 3 which is part of why they never fit well or were "fun" to wear. Pads are expensive over time and I needed overnights at all times so I could always be comfortable.
For the last two years I have been using Period brand period underwear. It was a learning curve but it helped me learn my bodies cyle to better know how to handle it to the minute. I just started working again so I do use pads on the heaviest days at work since changing my underwear at work is not an easy task. I love the night-time ones! Not once on even my heaviest days have I left a stain on my white sheets. They take getting used to but it's worth it. Also a bidet. Everyone get a bidet, life changing.

For me, when first trying the cup I was struggling a bit putting it in. After I started using another fold (switched from u-fold to punchdown-fold) it got much easier. And that's what I've kept doing for years now. Works for me 👌

I have used a few and I swear the Diva cup is the worst menstrual cup on the market! My favorite is the June cup! Its much more comfortable and is much easier to remove in my opinion!

I’ve been using period panties for years now (modibodi brand) and I’m totally converted! I can use them alone if I want, but for extra security and longevity, I usually use them in conjunction with tampons. Even if I don’t think I’ll bleed through my tampon (or cup or disk) they make me feel at ease. I’m not worrying anymore if I’ll bleed through during a meeting or something. They’re definitely not as irritating as pads and you don’t have to worry about them being in the wrong position. They sell different absorbencies. I usually opt for max absorbency, again for security, but I appreciate lighter options if I’m wearing a thin pant and don’t want VPL. They even have thongs, swimwear, shorts, and leggings! Also, I’ve used them way over 30 times. I finally had to trash a few pairs when they were literally threadbare and falling apart after several years of use. I bought more and even plan to try them postpartum. Oh and 3-4 pairs is enough for me personally to cycle through them, wash, air dry, and wear again.

I found with the cup that I really struggled with getting it in with the typical fold that was described in the video, since it felt wayy too bulky and difficult to get in the opening.
I do what I think is called a z-fold, but that’s basically squeezing the rim together and then folding one of the points downwards, a bit over halfways. That way I feel like it has a slimmer profile overall, and I sort of use the top rim part as a funny leverage/guide and then stuff the rest in. It was really quite fiddly the first couple of times, basically because I wasn’t squeezing it tight enough, but now I can do it no issue, first try.
I really do enjoy my cup, especially because I am a very forgetful person and I suck at changing my pads on my heavier flow days so I always have a ton of (fortunately) smaller leaks, while also having the discomfort of pads and blood to deal with. I also forget to change tampons every eight hours when they’re not completely full, and while TSS is fairly uncommon, it feels like testing my luck a bit too much. So my cup is perfect for my use needs!

I had the hardest time with the name brand diva cup, but it was so much handier than tampons/pads.
When it came time to replace I decided to buy a 2 pack of a no name brand on Amazon for ~$12 just to try something new. They fit so much better, are so much easier to work, and didn't feel like I was spending a bunch of money to feel "fine" about a product.
To anyone reading this, remember every ones bodies are different and you might need to try different sizes and brands to see what you prefer. ❤ whatever makes you better during your cycle is key.
For the collective, I loved this video. So informative!
