Honestly I have Endo and experience chronic pains daily from it, it's constant cramping and I am ngl It really is therapeutic, to see their reactions. It sounds so sadistic but there are so many times where women's pain is not taken seriously. I have been through a lot. It's fascinating to see how little pain they can process.

I feel like boys can experience what cramps feel in one health class in middle school, with parents permission, as a way of education.
Because most of them think its no big deal or turn into jackasses thinking girls are exxagerating.
What if they grow up and have a daughter and the mom isnt there? Most men have no idea what a period is or what to do, like 0 idea.
And even then, some mothers dont warn their kids, or give them such shit information because they where shamed or given shit information as well.

Got my first period at 10. 16 years later, I've finally been diagnosed with a nerve disorder which explains why I couldn't stand/walk on the first couple days of my period. Pain so bad you can't move is not normal. I have been telling this to doctors for at least ten years. I only had someone actually believe me earlier this year. I finally got a doctor to refer me to a gyno. 10 years is too long to get diagnosed.
My dad was my biggest advocate. At 16, he started telling doctors my level of pain was not normal - and more importantly, he started telling ME my pain wasn't normal. My mum thought it was: turns out she had both endo and adenomyosis (so that's 40+ years for her diagnosis...) and was used to excruciating agony. Dad advocated for both of us. EDUCATE. YOUR. SONS.

Hi! I've recently developed pain that sounds similar to what you described, could you share the name of the nerve disorder you're talking about? Mine usually starts 7-10 days before my period and I get pain in my legs, rib/chest area, and back, but it's also started to continue on into my period now. No doctor I've been to has any good idea about what it could be, and this sounds similar so I wanted to do some research. Thank you so much! (if you even see this haha!)

@@manyatandon5280 I don't know about the nerve disorder but I'd make a general recommendation to get evaluated for Endometriosis at your OB-GYN.

    • @manyatandon5280
      @manyatandon5280 3 місяці тому +8

I've been to a couple OBGYNs, including an endometriosis specialist, but the first one just automatically tried to put me on birth control, and the second thought it might be endometriosis, but when I brought up doing laparoscopy to confirm, she said that it was unnecessary and recommended birth control again. I have gotten a sonogram done, which the second doctor saw, but the sonogram didn't show signs of endo either, so I don't really feel comfortable with the diagnosis, since she couldn't really explain why she thought I had it.
I'm hesitant to go on birth control without a super clear diagnosis because of all the side effects it can have... plus I don't have a lot of the main symptoms of endo, such as heavy periods, which is why I'm thinking it could be something that's maybe not as directly related to my period.@@Mitsu92

The craziest part is that they’re allowed to express what’s going on. People with periods are essentially socially disincentivized to acknowledge period pain (or any kind of pain), so we’re taught to stay quiet. Like, if enough people mock you for admitting you’re having period pain, you stop doing it. So the fact that they feel so free to complain (especially in the workplace) is possibly the only unrealistic part of this. There’s a whole added layer of stress that comes with also expending effort to hide it.

totally - I have endo. I had to go home from school, leave social events or say I couldn't come because I got my period. I always felt guilty because of it. Being anxious to be the mood killer, to be called selfish when you can't pull your weight in a group project because of your period or people saying you fake it to get out of school. now that I am diagnosed and know what's up its a bit easier. Because I can at least say that there is a medical reason behind it and at least most people understand that. And since my treatment is working and I don't have to get my periods anymore I can't tell you how much my life quality has improved.

I dislike the myth that people with uteruses have a naturally higher pain tolerance. The more we say that the more it excuses how often medical professionals and society at large disbelieves and disregards our pain. Afab people experience pain the same as everyone else... we're just conditioned to ignore it, hide it, push through it and never make too much of a fuss.

Jepp. I had BAD cramps every month since I got my period on my twelvth birthday till sometime when I was thirteen and began on the pill (to deal with it, not as a contraceptive).
I have vivid memories of lying on the snow on my way home from school, only getting up because the painkillers were at home. Lying on the grass in front of the train station, throwing up, because I only had paracetamol and not ibuprofen which is the only thing that works for me. Throwing up right before a concert which I didn't go to because of the pains. Waking up in the middle of the night and sneaking out of the room so I wouldn't disturb my sister. Cramps from thighs to stomach during car-ride. Having to stop in the middle of a 60min massage (I was the therapist) because I was sweating and unable to concentrate - sent patient home and texted all my other patients for the day, then lay on the floor of my work-room, throwing up, waiting for it to pass so I could drive home and sleep off the exhaustion.
      Hurray for hormones!

I had to work, raise my young kids, do housework, run errands, grocery shop, and all other usual chores and responsibilities. There was no empathy or sympathy for what I was going through, except from my OBGYN and a few friends who also had endometriosis. I hope this will enable you all to be wonderfully supportive partners for your ladies.

The lack of empathy and viable diagnostic tools beyond surgery which I can't afford (I'm still in college) even if I got diagnosed is just astounding.

It’s also important to remember that people who have periods are often dismissed when they talk about what the cramps feel like and how much they hurt. They brought up the job interview example. You can’t tell a potential employer that you can’t do the interview because of bad cramps because generally you will be perceived as being weak and less desirable as an employee because you’re not doing the interview when it’s ‘just cramps’. Basically your choices are to a) do the interview anyway, despite being in pain, b) tell the interviewer about the cramps and hope they’re sympathetic, or c) lie about why you can’t make it in

Ngl, I've used a TENS unit on full blast (my mother got one to help with her many horse-inflicted injuries and I tested it out for her), and it's still nothing compared to the insanity of my periods. They come and go whenever they want (including doing "cycles" back to to back"), bleeding is more than just a crime scene- it's the goriest of slasher movies, the pain is debilitating and exhausting and nauseating to the point that there are many times where I literally can't get out of bed except when it's time to camp out in the bathroom.
And yes, I've been to many doctors about this. The most I've ever gotten is shrugs and vague references to a very strange hormone imbalance. Yay. 😑

It's good to see that they included the realistic setting of having to spend a regular day of normal activity during cramps of varying intensity.
    Mild cramps,
    Average cramps,
    Bad cramps...
Rachel wearing the TENS unit set to the same intensity, calmly commented, "Yeah, kind of like that, but actual cramp pain is more internal. This is just surface pain."
One of the guys said, in response to the pain, "OMG, I'm sweating!"
I nodded enthusiastically while watching the reactions, "Yup! Sweating, throwing up... Been there."
And then came another caption... Boss Level! 😬 Um. Yeah... Boss Level cramps have sent me to puke-ville too many times. (Until, that is, i went on the Pill. So Much Less Intensity of Pain and Volume of Clots.) "Bad cramps" had all three guys practically writhing in pain, and then they were asked to take it up to Boss Level for a short time. They had control of the TENS units and initially hesitated, but eventually took themselves to Boss Level. 😳 Well done, Guys. This pain and discomfort lasts a day and a half every month for many teen and adult women, and the shedding/bleeding continues for yet a few more days after the cramping subsides. Heating pads do help a lot, as the guys found out, but then you're tethered in place and don't want to walk away from the warm comfort.
Reality hit them pretty hard in this experience. They acknowledged that a day of abdominal pain would interfere with their ability to get through an otherwise normal day, and they'd probably get easily irritated as well. A welcome sight: Seeing them Reach for a Large Container of Ice Cream! If you ask me, ice cream soothes misery almost as much as a heating pad! 😅
Knowledge is power. Perhaps the junior/high school health class curriculum would benefit from adding TENS units and "a Rachel for comparison" to the teachers' resources.

Rachel admitting she’s doing the simulator while ON her period is a great comparison to the guys. Your videos just popped up, and I am obsessed (in a good way) about what you cover. This was Funny (as all get out), interesting, and revealing. Seriously, if men experienced what women go through - We would have a whole different medical coverage, work place days, and days off, and so much more. At least to be taken seriously, and for more men to go through this is wonderful and really funny!

This shows that men could never stand the pain of childbirth.

Reminder that women and period havers don’t have a literal higher pain tolerance. We have a higher tolerance to hiding and going through our day while in pain.

      Period havers are women

Ig it depends on whether theres such a thing as a biological pain tolerance. But i have heard that women have a higher pain tolerance but more sensitivity to pain or something like that. Probably bs but its nice to believe

There are no „period havers“. There are only women.

You do know it's possible for people who aren't biologically female to have periods, right?
Not only are you transphobic you're also just wrong 😑

I must have higher pain tolerance than other women, I have had periods for over 15 years and I have never felt a thing

i'm so surprised that zach, having chronic pain, couldn't handle it any better. no shade just would have expected him to have a higher tolerance than the rest of the guys

I love watching videos like this. The surprise guys express just cracks me up. Society generally treats women as though they exaggerate pain, and then the guys try the tens and still think, "There's no way someone could feel this all day and still function". When I was younger my cramps would be so bad I couldn't breath and would just sit on the floor rocking back and forth. I had a friend laughing at me because I was having a normal sounding conversation on the phone.
The worse part is that women are told from day one that they aren't really allowed to show pain. Like being stoic is some kind of pain Olympics. So it's both worse than men think, and yet any expression of pain is discouraged. I'd love these guys to have this experience and have a competition on who could fake not feeling pain.
Edit: No way, the syncing thing is totally real, not just confirmation bias. In college my roommate went from having very irregular periods to syncing with mine. Also... the study in the video is fifty years old. We know now that humans do have more chemical communication than we were originally aware of. Servers and exotic dancers not on birth control get bigger tips when they are ovulating. There are studies where shirts worn to work out in are ranked by their odor. Studies also show variations on vocal tone and weight distribution during women's cycles that are usually unnoticeable but still unconsciously picked up. Of course, there is so little research done into women's health I'm not surprised.
When Viagra was discovered to affect erections due to the effect on blood pressure, there was funding for men, but funding requested for studies in women was rejected. The one or two that were performed showed it has a great effect on period pain, but how many people know to ask for an off label prescription? I remember when the full extent of the clitoris was "re-discovered" about 10 years ago.
