    I’m 64 years old,painted in a production body shop for 36 years. Overall with what you had to work with. And knowing up front what you will have at the end. Damn good job. I wish I could spend a few hours with you and show you some easy tricks. I admire you guys tackling your own paint work. Using a body shop has just gotten stupid expensive.

      Jayz1996 199x Wash and degrease first. Maybe a red pad and Dawn or Simple Green. Moderate temperatures. Thin to win. Tack your surfaces before you spray. And gun control. ( don’t stir up any dust by pointing the gun away from your target. ) practice and more practice. Start small before tackling a big job. You can do it. Mixing ratios are real important

When I go in to a Home Improvement Store “Menards” and see a young dude with 10 or more Rustoleum Spray Cans, I give him a Thumbs Up. Keep it up and Thanks for the time you spend putting it all on YT

    This is the exact video I needed. Got an older ranger that is literally perfect for a spray can paint job. From my research the prep and sand down is really essential to a quality finish at the end.

    Spray cans are pretty cheap for small projects, but for bigger ones there is a turning point when the cost for all those rattlecans adds up and investing in a spray gun becomes an option. The trick with rattlecans is to get em cozy warm(not hot) and spray a million light coats. If you want a perfect job you can let paint dry and use very fine sandpaper to even out orange peel etc after a few layers before new thin layers. Finish off your color coating with some decent 2k clear coat, let that dry for a good couple of days and then fine sand and polish. With a lot of effort, you can even make diy spraying look great.

    • @marke9956
      @marke9956 Рік тому +1

      For bigger projects they have those Turbo cans, they’re like tall boy spray cans, more pressurized and has a fan tip with 4 feet of cover. It’s still not as great as a spray gun, but you can’t lose with how good of quality the turbo cans are and it’s so convenient!!

    Personally I think it looks okay, although you should have put primer down for a start, then do two coats of orange and finish it off with 1 coat of clear coat, sand that coat and then spray another coat of clear. because then you get and even shine and a quality job. Enjoyed the video though, thanks.

    js future reference never start on the outside of the car work and work your way in always start in the middle and work your way out so you not leaning on fresh paint

    • @JamesDguy
      @JamesDguy  7 років тому +6

      I didnt lean on any of it but i did get close. I usually never have that issue of even coming close but this thing was a freaking BOAT! Honda's are usually only 7-8 cans this thing took DOUBLE and was alot longer. The way i have been doing it has worked out perfect never once leaned into the paint before but its a good idea to start on hood and work around the car but with spray can you cant do that too well because paint dries too fast so when you go from fender to door you have to keep going from door to 1/4 panel and so on. But with gun i always start hood first work around to the other side and finish hood on the other side spray can is too fast drying or i would do it that way you said. But thanks for the advice

    Several questions, no judgment... Why not paint hood or roof first and not worry about bumping fence or door? Why not put newspapers on window bumper and wheels to not worry about overspray? Same with inside the doors when you opened them? Maybe it's just me but I'd rather cover up than clean up.

      I'd recommend keeping it on the car, taking it off would mean setting it on a trestle and restrict a lot of access for painting. If it's still on the car, mask everywhere you are not wanting to paint. Do the top first, then release and open it that way you are not touching the new paint. Hope this helps!

I dint have any runs dirt or runs. I tried painting a hood for my civic. The clear coat is looks nothing like the gloss on the gloss on the original paint runs and squirts. Will never be my problem is just the gloss. Could this be becuase I only used one can?

      @@JamesDguy that's cool to hear, ya around here you get a killer high end paint job for 2 to 3k from personal jobs outta their garages that are well worth it, but for the kids with their Mc Donald's money (pay checks) and their first car type of deal $400 is cool for the work you put into it, work smarter not harder and like you said it's a Win Win.
      Peace my Friend

    Awesome spray-can action as always man, that Rust-Oleum 2x is some nice material; colors really pop too.

    So I’ll admit, I thought this would turn out looking like garbage... and I was wrong. It looks surprisingly very good. And you just did the one coat?? And no clear coat at all??

    You know when it was in the garage it was looking good then when you switched over to the car wash I was thinking, "dam... That thing looks like shit... Idk what it was it just looked old and beat up with a shiny paint job (what's the ol'saying, "you can put a pig in a new wig, but it's still just a pig"lol..) but even the orange looked faded but new and shiny, and then you showed the after picture and it looked like I was hoping it would specially for a Rust-Oleum rattlecan paint job with no clear coat except for the clear that's added to the paint in the rattlecan. GOOD JOB HOMIE THAT DON'T KNOW ME!

    I’m really tempted to do this on my 1999 honda civic coupe but was wondering if it needs to be sanded since about half the car still has the old paint. And if i do need to sand it, which grits do i need and how many coats of this an 2x clear will i need? And also will i need to wet sand and buff it afterwards?

      I just spray painted my cars hood. It's also a 99 civic coupe black. I got it not so long ago. The hood needed paint so i got two cans of black glossy and used both. I also got 2 cans of 2x clear and used both. Now i will let it cured for 24 hours and i plan on wet sanding it and buffing it. Wish me luck lol might upload a small clip when im done

    Before you give it a thumbs down and just go about your business watch to the very end cuz maybe you'll see the difference that I seen cuz I was about to bounce and thought it looked like crap but then I got to see what it really looked like at the very end, so advice for people doing these type of videos try and tell your audience to wait tell the very end before giving you a thumbs down, like myself I think people get in a hurry and don't watch videos that we believe are dragging out for way too long and ship through and or over stuff sometimes

    I would like to see you do this is a different color - softer color. I have a problem with the color and the accent of the car. They just dont blend well. Iv personally done black cars and white cars and have them come out looking good but loud colors like these always look bad to me.... Fun trick - after you tape your trim and all that good stuff. The areas you dont wanna tape such as ( Windows and vinal top) give a coat of wd40 or such. The over spy will literally wipe away. If your spraying the rag top or vinal with wd40 bothers you - you can always use elephant wax.... But wd40 will not hurt athing. Good job friend
