The wax and tar remover stuff really does make a huge difference. I did one panel with and one panel without to test it a while back and it’s a night and day difference. Wax and tar remover is by far the way to go when prepping for paint.
I just wanted to say thank you for taking the time to teach people like myself the craft. To be totally honest, I love to keep up with my Ghetto Hooptie, but I'm currently in a situation where I don't have or could afford to pay to get everything done. If it wasn't for you guys doing these videos, I would have never been able to do this work. It's not perfect, but they look alright to me. In the end, that's all that matters.

Fantastic job (as usual). You didn't wet sand after painting... I'm wondering if you're just waiting until the whole paint job is complete? BTW, your channel is always my go-to when I'm about to posing my car. Thank you.
Another great spray can paint job! You make it look easy. I just tried it with Rustoleum metallic blue on the hood of my GS400 and it didn't look even. I had issues with concentrations of metallic in certain areas and uneven gloss finish. I ended up using 6 cans of color and 4 cans of 2k Spraymax. I wasted $190. I sanded the old clear coat and some base coat and then primered the whole surface to get a uniform color. Then I gave it a light sand with 400 and 600. I gave the color cans a warm water bath prior to use to hopefully get even coverage and still failed :( Any suggestions/advice would greatly be appreciated.
Protective enamel is better but in some situations I like the 2X paint. It would be even better if I did 2K clear from spraymax. Don’t confuse the 2K and 2X because they are different
I was going too another one but the hood isn’t good for it because it’s body line right in the middle. I might test it on a junkyard hood and see if I can pull it off and if so then YES!
I hope when it's time for me to spray paint my car it comes out as good as this one. I want a silk kind of black . I want to use Black, Rust-Oleum Stops Rust Gloss Turbo Protective Enamel Spray Paint.
This will crack, fade and look like 💩 after 90 days and 180 days you will cry because of the looks of your poor car, buy auto paint, not iron paint, this is great for rusty tractor or old rims, not for steel body’s, it’s too thick and hard to sand off after you see what it done to your car, if your after a pretty car, use auto paint and auto clear coat, did this and hated the painting I had done to my pickup. Took,12 cans, but will never do it again,
Hey there! I’m sure you have been asked before but not trying to search thousands+ comments lol. On to better things anyways. This is a TYPE S!
This might be a dumb question, but I'll ask it. I just recently sprayed 2 coats on my car (first attempt) and got a little bit of striping in some spots. My question is can I wet sand and spray a 3rd coat a week after the first 2 coats to try and fix the striping? Thanks and keep up the great channel!
Usually the answer is yes you can but some paints wrinkle up after another coat weeks later and idk why exactly but it’s not always the case. You could definitely try it and see what happens but worse case scenario you have to re do that whole panel
@@JamesDguy why do you think it’s junk? Is it because of the wrinkling that may happen? From what I read, you need to let it dry for a long time between coats, like a whole 24 hours.
Sorry no can do. I don’t do work for others. Plus it would be most likely damaged during shipping and I would be liable and I don’t have that kinda money. I do the do it yourself videos so I can teach others to do it themselves. That’s the best I have to offer.
I tried the dupli-color on my faded clear coat peered roof. It did not look good at all. It has lines on it and not even. Based on youtube, it may be that small can of duplic-color is for touch up only and not for hood, trunk or roof. That spray tips is very narrow. I need to re-do with Rustoleum auto paint. I have done it both ways without any problems. I typically like to do a little primer but with the rustoleum paint and primer it seems to not have a issue bonding and rust never happens in them spots so I say you should be good but do at your own risk.
Fully cured i don’t know but I handle it after a few hours to be safe. Depending on what paint you use. The advanced formula is slow drying and takes a day or 2 to be fully dry to the touch.
@@chistianjoshua9498 If it don’t look like the 2X cans they take longer to dry. Maybe 24 hours before it’s dry to the touch.might be sooner or longer due to temperature and other factors.

Thanks for the detailed how to! Been subbed since I bought my CRV and found the video you did with the pink! If you have time I've got 2 questions: were the 7 cans paint/ 6 cans clear enough for the CRV? I've been scrubbing through that video for a while and can't find the most straightforward answer. Also, in your professional opinion, what spray can most closely matches a brittish racing green? I'm looking at the rustoleum Gloss Hunter Green, or maybe one of the darker greens from something like Montana Cans (graffiti style paint)
Not sure on the green but hunter green might be close and with the temperature being 65-70 no wind and in a garage/ shop using my spray technique I was able to use that 7 cans of paint and 6 cans of 2K clear. I recommend 8 cans of each. I lay the paint on thick so it don’t need re coated but some like thin coats 2 times but I get best results with it thick enough to be glossy but not thick enough to run. It takes some practice but hope it helps! Thanks for the support all these years
Fishing line and heat together on older cars works perfect to protect the emblems from breaking I want you get the technique down the spraying heavy heavy wet coats and as heavy as possible and get used to the type of pain you're using and catching the runs you can spray down some wet paint jobs and they'll look shiny as glass with the clear once you get that technique down you can have some amazing paint jobs it's all depends on how heavy and wet you can put the paint down without it running and fish eyeing and orange peeling show cars when the gas tank those those painters that paint show cars they'll even tell you lay down the paint as wet as possible for every coat unless you're doing a special paint job or it's the first two coats you do it light then wet and then of course with your clear you want to do a really heavy wet coat and then a medium wet coat on the rest of the coats that first coat if you got your clear rough it's going to be ugly and never ever let the paint dry in there or paint when it's too hot out because when you get rough texture on paint that's cuz you're spraying too far away two lighted coats too fast and not wet enough or it's too hot out you want the paint wet wet wet when it goes on and make sure you overlap correctly as well so you don't get streaks and you can chase the streaks up and down the panel as well as your painting you'll see the streets come in then you can go back down a little bit and you can chase the streaks back out I'm making it wetter lighter in a certain spots you'll get the hang of it after you've painted a few panels and stuff just takes practice
My fairings on my bike have clear over vinyl decals. Also just vinyl stencil work. I know you can buy stencil vinyl at a craft store like Michael's and Hobby Lobby
Can’t do them for other people thanks to my snitch neighbors and haters on UA-cam. I don’t have a shop location and city is on me for painting in my garage.
@@JamesDguy dam, that sucks and I remembered you saying that in one of the video you uploaded last year. But yeah, keep up the good work. I am learning haha 😄
I believe I saw in another video you talking about doing these cars with the spray cans in a garage if possible. I live in an apartment and I’m parked under a car port which only has a canopy overhead, so no protection from wind, which you also mentioned to avoid if possible. And I think you noted in a video that the paint takes 24 hours to fully cure? Does that mean you wouldn’t drive the car to work the very next Monday morning after sitting overnight from Sundays spray job? I’m just wondering what kind of results I’ll get if I did my entire car but pretty much one panel at a time, trying to time it with weather forecast between windy days. These videos you’re doing have me wanting to finally make my car look nice the way it deserves. Pretty straight body but it’s had peeling clear coat and paint since I got it
My car has a matte rough "stucco" type finish to it. I have no idea how to prep it for painting, can't sand, can't wipe down with a cloth. Might just pressure wash hopefully get any grease off
lame that we dont have rustoleum product in eastern europe. Any suggestions for same price range alternatives? Ive used motip/multicolor spraycans with same results myself but i have to buy primer/base paint + color + 2k gloss separately - dont worry, still cheaper than buying the service. Just browsing for good alternatives!
So today was my first day doing this! I took all your steps but couldn’t get it done the right way, I have patches of gloss and it really looks unprofessional! But a bit better than how it originally was. Help?
Dont use a flathead screwdriver to remove emblems!!! Use a piece of fishing line or some kind of small gauge string. That way you wont gouge or damage the paint beneath the emblems.

Because it's a rattle can aka spray paint. Laying to light of coats and to far away with spray can will cause paint particles to be dry in the air and stick to the car and it will be rough. For a super glossy glossy high definition shine you're going to have to get a really good clear coat and get the wet sand down your base coat before you even clear coat it and you want to lay almost every single layer of paint down to where it's just about to run but not running same with the clear coat get that as wet as possible right before it runs and that is perfect because they'll be shiny after that
And because it's Matt black or satin black it's the same color and shinyness of brand new panels that come on black from factory that makes new panels or specialty body panels for custom looks
I was thinking the same thing until I read the title. Basically, he was showing us the cheap rattle can route. That’s why he used the semi gloss paint & primer spray paint.
I don’t want gloss. I prefer matte/satin finish. Plus it’s not stay black this is just temporary till I get it all painted white. It would have been weird to have a what hatch and blue car. At least the black looks better lol
Dont just tape the rubber gasket on the glass. Thats a fail point where the paint will chip off. Instead get a piece of string and stuff it under it so it lifts it up so u cand sand and paint up to and beneath it
you always end up orange peel finish, why you go right, left, backwards, and forward, you do not go overlap on spray loll, u don't go zikzak front and back, i do not understand all that sorry, if i end with orange peel,at least spray over 70 % cover edge, line, then sand it with 1600 grit to move all that orange peel and it will come PROFESSIONAL,

I ran out of breath reading that
Would you be willing? If you haven't already, do a slight tutorial for paint work with stencils.
I might be able to do that. What kinda stencil you thinking?
My fairings on my bike have clear over vinyl decals. Also just vinyl stencil work. I know you can buy stencil vinyl at a craft store like Michael's and Hobby Lobby
Lol shoo, if I am close to where you live. I had want you to do a paint job on my del sol lol.
I am learning haha 😄
hi which rust oleum you for the best gloss is going to be black is so many options? i saw you even buffing them and looks so good great videos👍🏻
Curious how this stands up to gas? like when pumpking and you get that little gas drip on the side
Pretty straight body but it’s had peeling clear coat and paint since I got it
You can drive it next morning just don't touch it much
My car has a matte rough "stucco" type finish to it.
That was very orange peel when you peeled off the masking tape?
So today was my first day doing this! I took all your steps but couldn’t get it done the right way, I have patches of gloss and it really looks unprofessional! But a bit better than how it originally was. Help?
Dont use a flathead screwdriver to remove emblems!!! Use a piece of fishing line or some kind of small gauge string. That way you wont gouge or damage the paint beneath the emblems.
Can’t you see the scratch marks through the paint from using 320 grit?
No it will work out fine, the primer will fill it in and smooth it out.
150 grit first then primer
320 grit.
By far my favorite build yet! I love what you’re DOING WITH IT RIGHT NOW TOO!!!! 🙏💯💯💯💯🙏👆✝️✝️✝️✝️💯😂♿️♿️♿️😂💯🙏👆love ya brother! Keep on keeping on! STAY AWESOME! As you say!!!

🙏🙏Try to do the carbon fiber effect 👍👍
That would be cool but I don’t like the fake carbon look.
I'm fine
Awesome 👏🏻 glad to hear!
Don’t feel sorry bro it looks bad ass to be honest who care about what the “profesional “ ppl said
God bless you
Bump 👌🏼
Appreciate you!

Some clear would have made alot of difference even being a cheap way to do it. One coast and cut and polished would’ve taken extra one hour
My question is it doesn't shine/ a clear reflection like the original manufacture why is that?
Blue looked good in the dark then the sun ow my who hell painted that half assed
What happened to the clear coat
I was thinking the same thing until I read the title.
Basically, he was showing us the cheap rattle can route. That’s why he used the semi gloss paint & primer spray paint.

It would have been even better to put a gloss coat on it aswell.
I don’t want gloss. I prefer matte/satin finish. Plus it’s not stay black this is just temporary till I get it all painted white. It would have been weird to have a what hatch and blue car. At least the black looks better lol
If you go through all the work of sanding and taping just buy a 15 dollar harbor freight gun and spray rust ilium with hardener catalyst
Yeah as long as you have or van afford the $500+ compressor to properly run your $15 Harbor Freight paint gun 🤬
Where do you find the rust oleum catalyst?
Just one can for the rear hatch?
It didn’t even use half the can but yea.
Paint the wheels black.

Hi pal, seen the video of the pink crv, any news on how it’s holding up?
Or any of the cars you have painted in the past with spray cans?
It’s gone
Dont just tape the rubber gasket on the glass. Thats a fail point where the paint will chip off. Instead get a piece of string and stuff it under it so it lifts it up so u cand sand and paint up to and beneath it
you always end up orange peel finish, why you go right, left, backwards, and forward, you do not go overlap on spray loll, u don't go zikzak front and back, i do not understand all that sorry, if i end with orange peel,at least spray over 70 % cover edge, line, then sand it with 1600 grit to move all that orange peel and it will come PROFESSIONAL,
