Ok. People need to stop saying that bands from the early 2000s are cringy and embarassing. They're not. Let me remind you that there's a whole generation of metalheads that exist because they were introduced to metal through these so called 'cringy bands', and in an immense degree these are the people who are buying the music and concert tickets to keep metal and rock alive today. The only cringy part is that you were a pre teen or a teen who was overly dramatic and at times ridiculous, but that's ok, we all were, we grow up and change and become someone better. The bands were good, and they still sound good today. I respect all of them and thank them because thanks to them, my life has been defined by the incredibly awesome metal music being played today.
ThatOnePerson I think it became cringe because the way people dressed in the late 90s and early 2000s which inevitably becomes the image of the band. The bleach blond spiky hair, the weird cargo pants... etc. These bands come from a time where the clothing trends of the year was just weird, in turn that image just stuck with them. There were many bands that are "cringe" Like Static X.
I do agree with you, but for me the cringe from Linkin Park was that their music did sound all the same. It was brought to my attention very early on and it made a lot of sense. Having said that I’d rather not bash them too much since Chester passed away. They do deserve a ton of criticism for the change but at the same time I give them props for actually changing. I just wish it wasn’t modern day pop.
AFTER Chester passed away,I relistened to the new album again, and now I understand why Chester made such an album. He was trying to communicate his problems, and yet no one realised that he was suffering.
Akhtar Zamil Sirajudeen I agree the album had to grow on me at first I didn’t like it at all now I really like it along with all of their other albums.
I know this is gonna sound convoluted, but Mike Shinoda reacted to the teens reacting to linkin parks music, i think you should see his reaction. I'm extremely interested to see what you think of his opinion on the evolution of their music.
mike shinoda is the reason to why i don't listen to Linkin Park. I'm not hating, they do deserve a place in the bests, but...rapping in general makes a song cringy. at least for me.
@@agnimitroghosh94 Even if you don't like his rapping, he is the brains behind the rest of the music. Every member of the band contributed, but he pulled it all together.
Literally was watching this video last night & thought about what this band would be like in the next a few years. Such a shame what happened to Chester. May he rest in peace.
Ok,while I don't disagree with what they say(I'm neutral),Chester has been doing vocals(For multiple bands) for as they said 20 years, over that time he's really damaged his voice, and I think what has happened is that he wants to change what they do so he can preserve his voice because he's 41(almost 42) years old. Voices don't last forever,If you've listened to the last concerts they have done you can tell his voice was badly beaten, and he is the type of guy to not take a break because he always wants to stay productive.
That's the reason M. Shadows does vocals for Avenged Sevenfold the way he does, because he strained his vocals chords so hard when he used to do growls in their first album.
you say that but the reason why this album was released a year late is because chester took a year break after the tour and chester has said there is no screaming this album, whether he screams during concerts is another thing as screaming for 1 song isnt the same as recording the same scream 10 times in a row. Their next album may have screams but who knows
The album wasn't released late. They were on tour for the whole of 2014 and 2015 and only started their work on the new album in December of 2015. Chester didn't take a break from anything.
Holy mother of god he's launched his Patreon and gained like 300 subs in a day. Seriously man congrats on your growing. I already put in my Patreon money for ya. I'm almost done with school and my income will more than triple when I can work full time again so I may upgrade in the future. Just wanted to let you know that you've made a Metal head out of me man. Your channel is literally the main reason I started listening to metal. I grew up with Emo, punk, and pop punk. About the only metal I listened to was System of down and a little bullet for my valentine if you count that. Hell I didn't even know Prog was a thing until I found your channel now its my new favorite style of music. Anyways thanks a lot man. TOTAL GRADE FOR THIS CHANNEL: ++
That seriously means a lot to me man \m/ It will take me a minute to get all the mp3s up, but I'll have few up pretty soon for sure. You're the fucking man haha. Thank you.
minutes to midnight wasn't a bad album, given up was a great song the 30 second scream was awesome. in a note about Chester he was an amazing singer a one of a kind and will be missed as linkin park where the band that got me into metal.
Have you ever thought about maybe doing album reviews? I love your thoughts on music and I'm wondering what you'd think about some original and new metal albums.
I have done 1 album review and would like to do more. My time is completely eaten up right now so it won't be happening anytime soon. However, that will be coming back!
I think many people are criticising linkin park because the change was so sudden. I mean look at songs like "war" from the album the hunting party (2014) and that wasn't to long ago
True, but just 2 years before that they made Living Things :D Only their first two albums sounded similar. They are changing their style with every album. Like, they did two nu-metal albums. Then they did calm alternative rock. Then it became atmospheric dark electro rock. Then it became like real electronica. Then suddenly metal happens. And then pop happens.
One Step Closer was the first step into metal for me. Randomly on TV while my Dad was channel surfing. 8 months later found the Hybrid Theory album in my uncle's huge metal collection and spent the summer getting educated on everything from Maiden to My Dying Bride. RIP Chester. You will be missed.
I can't believe it's about 2 years since Chester passed. His music, from Linkin Park and Dead by Sunrise, really helped get me through some of the harshest times of my life, As well as influencing what I put into my own band today. Their Minutes to Midnight album holds a special place in my heart. May Chester rest softly and sing amongst the angels. Imma go cry now
Would you ever consider taking a band like this giving your thoughts on them, then listen to their entire catalog over a few days or weeks and wrap it up by letting us know your experience and see how it compares your pre conceived notion? I'd like to see you do this with linkin park for sure and many other bands as well.
I wanted to comment after being only 2:35 into the video about how much, as an old school Linkin Park fan, I already knew I would love this video... And you go and mention Babylon 5!?!?! Damn dude you might just be my new favourite person!
1) @13:20 you complain that they're not "musically diverse" now you complain because they're musically diverse 2) They had to fight with Warner To even make the Hybrid Theory album the way it was to begin with. The record label fought to keep Hybrid Theory from existing. 3) On the "got away from metal" comment...there last album had more guitar work on it than any other album..AND theyre all pretty "diverse" from each other on that album. 4) With the idea that they're not genuine anymore...they have been in multiple interviews talking about how they've grown up over the years...they just have a new genuine. 5) There are tons of demos and non album releases from the Hybrid Theory era that 98% of these complainers haven't even heard.
Lower Lawns guys what if that pop swich was trying to tell us something about chester? If you pay attention to his lyrics in heavy there is a message there. We had signs there but we ignored them. Instead we were too busy criticizing their style of music.
Growing up with linkin park, I 100% agree with your input. Especially with releasing this new song under a new name. This song overall is not...terrible, but the sound coming from linkin park it's quite, not upsetting, but more confounding. It's not my cup of tea. There's no more of that angst, however with this band there is always passion with their music, something that always draws me in. I enjoy hearing your thoughts on these video, as a broke college student I'll do my best to support you! Videos are great!
I was born in '96, and grew up listening to LP. My school books were covered in their old (not sure if they still use it) logo. My first song was Numb, btw. And honestly, all the hate on their new stuff irks me to no end. They've always been transformative, no pun intended. I dislike that it seems like they sold out, but they have always been amazing. Their music is meant for the kids/adults who had/have nothing (e.g. no friends, nobody that really cared/cares, nobody that understands what it's like to feel like you're alone, broken, defeated, etc.) or struggles through issues, both mental and habitual, and I guess growing up and never giving up on them makes me a biased fan, but I digress. They're just metamorphosing. Anyway, I guess this got kind of ranty, I'm just sick of people hating. No offense/hate to you or anyone else who comments, as everyone is entitled to their own opinions, but I'm biased. Anyway, much love. :) \m/
That's your opinion and i understand you . But a lot of people are like the guy in this reaction video . They said " i loved Linkin Park when they made heavy music " or " i miss the guitars and chester's screamo " but when Linkin Park released The Hunting Party , no one listened . They just came when there is something to hate about it.
Just Michael weak? Seriously? Okay, did you listened to one of the songs in THP? Take Keys To The Kingdom for example. Interpret what the lyrics are saying. You'll be amazed
I got no real skin in the Linkin Park game, but I liked the points made in the video. It does seem like _Chester Sings To A Beat_ would probably be better received as a side-project. More importantly, however, it's great to see you reaching your 100th video, man. I know you like to do the self-deprecation thing, but when it comes down to it, I hope you know that you're rather solid on the content. \m/
R.I.P. Chester. I was 15 when LP came out with Hybrid Theory. Before that I used to listen to bubble gum pop and boy bands so they were actually my generation's first rock/metal band. I love Hybrid, Meteora and Reanimation but HT is the bomb man. Its so close to my heart I can play the whole album in my head from start to finish I don't even need to hear it. Back then we would listen to the entire CD not skipping any track so I still know which songs comes after what, it was like the entire album was one big ass song. Miss you LP, miss you Chazzy Chaz. You will always be our coming of age, beloved Linkin Park.
+Become The Knight, be careful sitting so close to that music equipment with a drink, an I say this from experience. I don't want to sound patronising, but please be careful.
I had watched this video just yesterday when I found out about Mike's channel... so strange how life can be, it makes me sad, didn't see Chester suicide coming...
I thought linkin parks newest album sounded like linkin park. They try something new every album, and to be honest, i was expecting their new sound after the hunting party. The new album was great, but it just happened to be a little softer then usual. They tried to change their sound, which people didnt like. I liked it, but it wasnt what they usually are. It seems like they do what they like to do, which i respect. I also feel like one more light was made as a plea for help from chester to the world.
Hey mate ! I really do like your UA-cam Channel because like you, I do like Rock N' Roll, and at the same time I'm learning English as well. I'm sorry for my mistakes. Thanks
@Cyberdemon Mike I really can't understand you: mistakes, bad record in general... Its my favorite album from them. It's not your favorite? OK, but please don't say that this album is bad, because you can't even argue your point.
@Cyberdemon Mike Just like I said, this is you opinion, and I don't suppose to agreed with you Go back to listen their first 2 albums, and keep saying that they sold out with MtM...
What does Linkin Park actually supposed to sound like? their first album? Linkin Park never identified themselves as a Nu metal band...ask them what genre they are and they won't give you a answer. just because their first album is way different then what they are now doesn't mean...oh that does sound like Linkin Park..linkin park has been changing so why is this a surprise? I was born when Linkin Park was under construction. Luckily I had a older brother that had Hybrid Theory and I had no way of avoiding it and you can say I literally grew up with L.P. and I have no problem with them changing and always doing different things. I am fan, I have a L.P. tattoo and I don't regret it. I will continue to support them because they can do w.e the fuck they want to do. No one controls them but them selves. They have no strings. for the type of music they are making rn for being "pop" it's not bad it's good. just because it's Linkin Park playing it doesn't mean it's shitty because "That's not Linkin Park"
THANK YOU! People got so butthurt with the release and shitting on the new record, but come on!! The new songs are freaking amazing, just another genre.. People need to grow up and let them be 😩😐
Ace Dragon in an interview before their first album released, they said the name “hybrid theory “ was that for a reason. That they are a rock rap hybrid
You sound like a casual fan. What you said about brand is absolutely true. But if you listen to their last album then you wouldn't complain about fat guitar and drums as The Hunting Party features the best of their guitars and drums. But if the next album (the going to be released album) sounds different I don't think they deserve hate. I also don't think that they are using their name to sell their current stuff which you called disingenuous. They changed with age. Somme musicians might be quite okay with changing their style entirely for a project which they have been doing from their album Minutes to Midnight. You might not like it but this is as much Linkin Park as much as the Linkin Park of Hybrid Theory era. I thats what I love about the band. The effortlessness with which they did all these projects throughout the years.
Cubectecture FINALLY someone with sense in the sea of comments.. i completely agree 100% man. Like with the Hunting Party they actually made it a full rock record. And guess what? It was completely ignored by everyone. But now that they decided to go pop, all of a sudden everybody decides to hate? Where were these kids when the Hunting Party came out?
What saddened me most was that many people who had been asking them return to a heavier sound never supported their last album. And still there are people who dont realise that this band has always been playing with their sound with no two album sounding the same. They dont want to see the production aspect of the current album, they dont want to enjoy Chester's voice, or even the fact that their most personal record after HT and M. Please enjoy the album as it is. Or listen to something you like. Music is supposed to make you happy not fight over.
Cubectecture EXACTLY. Korn and Slipknot are still out there that I have to admit have done metal type music better than Linkin Park in certain aspects. But yeah when guilty all the same came out none of these complainers supported them and instead said "nah it still doesn't sound like hybrid theory." They might as well have said "where's the guitars?" After listening to that track :/
I think the one problem that people are having is solely the sound. It sounds different mainly because of the change in routine. Rather than make the music first and the lyrics next, they did the lyrics first and the music next. While it is interesting how it turned out, I'm hoping they stick with their original routine - music first, lyrics next. The music tends to sound a bit better in ways when it's done first instead.
Its honestly so hard listening to Linkin Park now. Cheater Bennington was and still is an inspiration to me and music will not be the same without him. The best to his family and may he rest in peace.
The guys in Linkin Park made Hybrid Theory when their lives were much more "angsty". As they gained fame, money, and fans, their lives became a lot less "troubled". Thus making less angsty music. Music is a way to express your feelings, and if you're not feeling the same angst and frustration, then why would you make that kind of music? Being disingenuous would be to continue putting out albums like Hybrid Theory. Also. Your knowledge of the band is lacking, majorly. You're just like many who have listened to Hybrid Theory a ton, loved it, and hadn't really listened to anything after it, like you even said. Their second album, Meteora, already had poppy undertones. Breaking The Habit is very much a pop driven song. Then, their 3rd album Minutes to Midnight, was completely pop. They had maybe two songs on there that even sounded somewhat like Hybrid Theory. People are misguided when they talk about Linkin Park. They aren't a metal band, they aren't a punk band. They make music that they like, and always have. Just like plenty of people, they're music taste changes at different periods of their lives.
I think this comment sums it up pretty well (though I wouldn't say newer music is less "troubled"). They had all that angst and anger that young people have, so that's the music they made. But they grew up, settled down, and their worries and troubles changed. And so did their music. It's obvious in the lyrics, and it would be quite non-genuine if the sound didn't reflect that as well.
You should listen to When They Come For Me from A Thousand Suns because it shares the same view as you, it's directed at people who want 'the next to be just like the first'.
It’s actually advised to mix whisky with a 30% of water (more or less, it depends on the whisky) cause it kills the taste of straight up alchool, making all the flavour and aroma pop
revisiting this now (was on a linkin Part track because of their 20yrs anniversary of hbrid theory) and Mike says (at 14:00) that they sound the same. I find that interesting because i think LP changed a lot in their time. Heavy and the whole new record is of course really different but "a Thousand suns" (my favourite record i think) was already completely new territory for LP even though you could recognize them and imho they changed their sound on each record and i never thought it was boring or repetitive (except "The Hunting Party" ), good video anyway. I like your takes on it :)
Damn, this is how you do a reaction video. You were very well spoken throughout the entire video and I agreed with just about everything you said. Shame to see a band I grew up with just basically fucking off their core fan base.
The 1st CD I ever bought was Hybrid Theory. I borrowed it from a friend at 1st and recorded it on a type. Then I got birthday money and bought it. 15 year old me was so happy.
You are absolutely right mate. The change in Linkin Park is very similar to the change that Metallica went through in the late 90's. Not everyone likes Metallicas whole musical catalogue (I like everything except St. Anger). But Metallica are regarded as one of the most important bands in metal, because they are one of the few bands in ANY genre to explore their genre. Thrash metal, heavy metal, hard rock, alternative rock to name a few. "This album and what we're doing with it - that, to me, is what Metallica are all about: exploring different things. The minute you stop exploring, then just sit down and fucking die." ~Lars Ulrich describing Load (1996) Don't get me wrong, Metallica's and Linkin Park's old stuff has a special place in my heart, but I didn't criticise them for exploring music.. Even though Linkin Park's new stuff is crap to say it nicely. Sorry for going all Metallica on a Linkin Park video, but I wanted to prove a point, and Metallica was my weapon to prove my point and make it stick :)
I completely understand your point. And it can be argued that Metallica may have strayed away from their brand when the did Load and Reload (although idk if I'd agree with that). And from what other commenters have been telling me Linkin Park is supposed to be some sort of "genre defying music experiment"? So this is technically supposed to fit into their brand (again, idk if I'd agree with that). I love all of Metallica's stuff except for St. Anger as well, though I have grown to appreciate it more over the years.
Congratulations on your Patreon thing! I like and appreciate how honest you are about trying to make some money out of your passion and your work :) i've been seeing your videos for a while now, I love them! regards from Chile! keep rocking lml
Hey Mike interesting video, I wouldn't say I agree entirely, but I understand where you're coming from. Keeping within the whole genre changing bands theme, is your opinion the same about Opeth's stylistic change with Heritage as it is with LP?
Not exactly no. Opeth progressed further towards being a prog rock band as opposed to prog metal and from what I understand that was at least partly to assist with preserving the lead singer's voice. Opeth tried to go "pop" one time with Damnation (which is one of my favs). I don't think this is the same scenario.
Become The Knight Become The Knight Is it really that different though? Because Heritage really is a very different album all the previous Opeth records. It's true that Opeth always had clear prog elements, but I would argue that the stylistic change is a lot bigger than that of LP, because Heritage has a lot more new jazz elements that haven't been a part of their sound before. It's true that Damnation was also an album that was more prog rock, but it was still more similar to say the clean parts of Blackwater Park or Still Life. As you said in the video LP had been moving in more of a pop direction with every new release, the new stuff seems to just continue that trend at an accelerated pace. Maybe there's something I missed since I'm not at all into LP, so I could be looking at it from a wrong perspective. (That reply got way too long, sorry for that)
Cant believe i just found your channel now. Genuinely one of the funniest people on youtube, currently binge watching all your vids, keep it up! also what do you think of guthrie govan?9
Thanks man! Guthrie is amazing. No two ways about it. I actually reviewed one of his songs on my Song Suggestion Friday series (I believe it was #4?). Orgasmic haha.
Hahaha! Was that an AVGN reference you made at 10:05 into the video? **Edit** yes it most definitely is, after hearing the rest of what you said there.
Listening to this video and your comments on the latest album made me fully realize that the reasons I really like a lot of the songs are just Chester's voice and their lyrics-- what made me fall in love with them in the first place (I wasn't as focused on instrumental at the time).
The most shocking thing is how less cynical mike was back then I think he was actually still the way he is now just dialed it back for UA-cam at the time but R.I.P Chester you and Chris are legends and will be missed
If you really wanted to know the reason behind the first song in the video it's called Heavy and it's a song Chester wrote about one of his good friends that committed suicide that strongly effected him and was the reason behind the day that he chose to commit suicide himself, it was that friends, Chris Cornell's, birthday
sound the same?... SOUND THE SAME?!?! ARE YOU INSANE? You realise they will have 10 albums out there... lets list the genres shall we? 1) Nu-metal 2) hip/hop 3) RnB 4) Rock 5) Industrial 6) Electro House 7) Trance 8) Trap 9) Dubstep 10) Drum and Bass 11) EDM 12) Heavy metal (THP) 13) Pop To clarify that 7 studio albums plus 2 remix albums and 1 mashup album. I fail to think of any other band that over the span of 2 decades has dared to venture into any of the above genres, much to the dismay of LP fans who seem to think that Hybrid Theory is a very accurate representation of what sound to expect from them....
Paras Chopra I feel like there are/were very cool if not unique things about Linkin Park, but you’re right that Chester was the true standout piece of the band. They did popularize the rap-rock fusion, they changed their sound on every album, they have 2 lead vocalists, they have a DJ which allowed them to broaden their horizons, and having both a rapper who can sing and a vocalist with insane vocal range allowed them to experiment with their lyrical structure. I mean listen to Easier To Run,Nobody’s Listening,Don’t Stay, and Somewhere I Belong (all from one album). Their lyrical structure and/or the utilization of 2 lead vocalists on those 4 songs is all different from each other.
Mike Shinoda has stated in the reaction to the teens video and in interviews that if they just made hybrid theory and Meteora over and over, then that would actually be selling out because the artistic aspect would just go out the window, just make what sold well the last time. Not to mention, eventually they’d get criticism for that too for sounding the same and never branching out artistically, so damned if you do. He said it would also drive them crazy if they did that. Even in Meteora, he points out the change in sound started there with Breaking the Habit having the same powerful feeling and energy with no heavy guitars. Meteora was also an album HEAVILY pushed on them by the expectations from the label of re-catching lightning in a bottle and to just do what sold well the first time. Mike has a verse in their song When They Come For Me that sums this up nicely which says “once you got a (Hybrid) Theory of how a thing works, everybody wants the next thing to be just like the first.” Which is true. Many older fans and critics have said the same “where’s the shut up when im talking to you?”. His response was “yall oughta stop talking, Start trynna catch up”. I have to respect that at least they stay genuine as artists first and want to feel proud of what they put out.
They released their most heaviest Rock- Album The Hunting Party in 2014! Why nobody talks about it?? Please stop hating on their new stuff and listen just to their old stuff and also to THP if you want the heavy stuff :D
Ikr? I remember when I first heard Rebellion. I was like "Holy fuq, I thought I was listening to Linkin Park, what is System of a Down doing here?!" (then I found out Daron Malakian was featured in this XDDD) I seriously don't understand why is this album being so overlooked. -_- It's a fuckin masterpiece.
I remember Mr Hahn saying waay back while they were still touring for Hybrid Theory they were already ready to evolve from that albums style, theyd been playing those songs since the late 90s and were over it.
His point at 22:00 kinda reminds me of how artist will do side project bands and they try different styles to satisfy their artistic needs but it doesnt comprise their style or reputation for their other band like how Corey Taylor does Slipknot and Stone Sour or how even Mike Shinoda did Linkin Park and then did the more hip hop centric Fort Minor
To know how wrong you are, just watch Mike Shinoda reacting to them, I don't care if you record it or not, I just want you to know the band's perspective on that "sudden change"
I feel like there new stuff isn't selling out but you sort of see the point in why they would say that because it's just a different era that we are in now I fucking love there old stuff though because it was more roar and dynamic and chesters voice has changed so much over the years probably because he sings in such a way where it's like he's swallowed glass but I love them and r.i.p Chester you fucking rocked and love to everyone there's people to talk to if there's issues in your life xxx
I totally agree with your point at 21:30 (around that time stamp). Calling this pop music Linkin Park was totally wrong. I never actually liked them, I really think they are the definition of the word overrated, especially after that pop project. Remember when Public Enemy used the bridge of Angel of Death for "She Watch Channel Zero?!"? Imagine if Slayer did that song entirely and it came out in Reign in Blood as a Slayer song. It would feel so wrong. Slayer are pure Thrash, fast riffs and aggressive punk-yelling style vocals. They're not a hip hop band that uses riffs from metal bands. So good job on pointing that out Mike
Your analysis of the branding makes me think of how Devin Townsend approaches things. Strapping Young Lad, The Devin Townsend Band, The Devin Townsend Project, etc....
R.I.P Chester Bennington, you will truly be missed, you made a huge impact to my life and to music.
Chester bennington dying is a national tragedy like september 11
Al Mac Oh shutup
Metal Nuke Just hard to believe, especially since there is so much music of his here, and listening to it makes you feel he is still here.
Booty Munchkin oh please
Al Mac edgy 12 year old alert
Listening to the lyrics of "Heavy" makes you wonder what was going on in Chester's head at this time before his tragic passing. R.I.P Chester
except he wrote much deeper and sadder and less cringey lyrics since the first album
His thoughts were. How can I sell out even more than I already have? I know I can continue making teen angsty music well into my 40s.
The only angsty thing here is you m8
Edit: Actually, it seems like you're just an angry old man, so imma let that slide.
@@loli_cvnt5622 Thanks bro. Weirdly enough Chester was an angry old man too.
Listening to majority of the lyrics on that album makes you wonder about his headspace.
Fair enough
You sir.... *gives medal*
ThatOnePerson now the new music sucks
AFTER Chester passed away,I relistened to the new album again, and now I understand why Chester made such an album. He was trying to communicate his problems, and yet no one realised that he was suffering.
Akhtar Zamil Sirajudeen I agree the album had to grow on me at first I didn’t like it at all now I really like it along with all of their other albums.
Izaan ur rehman i love music: metal, alternative, punk rock, ska, jazz, blues.
but one more light was not a good album.
That describes every album Linkin Park ever released.
Still, shit album
I mean that was 99% of LPs albums
With great reputation comes great responsibility.

leif solmunde yes yes
ELDERS REACT TO RAMMSTEIN
I know this is gonna sound convoluted, but Mike Shinoda reacted to the teens reacting to linkin parks music, i think you should see his reaction. I'm extremely interested to see what you think of his opinion on the evolution of their music.
James Hetfield You want him to react to reactions to more reactions!!! That's some inception stuff...
Just Mike Mike was either dishonest in the video, or the entire band are just now pop divas that give each other and the industry handies!
Or he reacts to the teens reacting to Mike Shinoda
mike shinoda is the reason to why i don't listen to Linkin Park. I'm not hating, they do deserve a place in the bests, but...rapping in general makes a song cringy. at least for me.

Literally was watching this video last night & thought about what this band would be like in the next a few years. Such a shame what happened to Chester. May he rest in peace.
hey
Every single album of Linkin Park is a Masterpiece.
The first 2 yes. Minutes to midnight is pretty good. Other than that, not very great, a few songs here an there but not nowhere near the first two.
No just their first two are
R.I.P Chester Bennington, you will surely be missed by many, including by and I'm sure by Become the Knight as well!
Babylon 5 is legit sci-fi gold.
Well in retrospective it was pretty authentic considering the lyrics in heavy -.- RIP
You're right on that one dude...
Your right
Rip Chester, used to listen to hybrid theory front to back over and over again, the cd didn't leave my discman for months.
Makes a lot of sense actually. Opeth did a similar thing.
Yea listen to the beijing concert from 2015 his voice was barely there
That's the reason M.
Rip Chester. Hopefully he finds calmness and peace somewhere else🙏🏼
Thank you.
"What I've Done" is probably my favorite song from Linkin Park, because I like the message of it. R.I.P Chester
You used the word "shade" in a sentence I never thought I'd seen the day.
Shit......you and me both.........I think I need to wash my mouth out with the blood of my enemies.
Become The Knight react to nu metal heavy
I'll help, here's the link:

minutes to midnight wasn't a bad album, given up was a great song the 30 second scream was awesome. in a note about Chester he was an amazing singer a one of a kind and will be missed as linkin park where the band that got me into metal.
~17 second scream
Have you ever thought about maybe doing album reviews? I love your thoughts on music and I'm wondering what you'd think about some original and new metal albums.
I have done 1 album review and would like to do more. My time is completely eaten up right now so it won't be happening anytime soon. However, that will be coming back!
I think many people are criticising linkin park because the change was so sudden. I mean look at songs like "war" from the album the hunting party (2014) and that wasn't to long ago
True, but just 2 years before that they made Living Things :D
Only their first two albums sounded similar. They are changing their style with every album. Like, they did two nu-metal albums. Then they did calm alternative rock. Then it became atmospheric dark electro rock. Then it became like real electronica. Then suddenly metal happens. And then pop happens.
I like how people ignore Hunting party
But I dislike how people ignore Hunting Party
One Step Closer was the first step into metal for me. Randomly on TV while my Dad was channel surfing. 8 months later found the Hybrid Theory album in my uncle's huge metal collection and spent the summer getting educated on everything from Maiden to My Dying Bride. RIP Chester. You will be missed.
How much and what brand of whisky do you drink in one session of filming. I'm quite interested.
Lol! I'll add that to a QnA video ;)
Become The Knight Bet It's Apple juice
It's called urine
Ohh you have been drinking wrong liquors my friend.
Alexandru Numerar lol you're so random
Agreed, although he did claim to have listened to some of their catalog before but he didn’t like it.
2:07 have you listened to the hunting party? That was their heaviest shit since ht
I don't know why people dislike the new album, i loved it. Crawling was also my first songs i listened too your video was amazing :) :)
I wanted to comment after being only 2:35 into the video about how much, as an old school Linkin Park fan, I already knew I would love this video... And you go and mention Babylon 5!?!?! Damn dude you might just be my new favourite person!
1) @13:20 you complain that they're not "musically diverse" now you complain because they're musically diverse
2) They had to fight with Warner To even make the Hybrid Theory album the way it was to begin with.
If I hadn't subscribed to you just a few videos ago, that AVGN reference would have easily earned you my sub.
When he said “yeah he does look older” and I thought about how he died. RIP
It seens that no one listened to The Hunting Party.
太田順士 I agree 😑
Just Michael weak? Seriously? Okay, did you listened to one of the songs in THP?
Take Keys To The Kingdom for example. Interpret what the lyrics are saying. You'll be amazed
太田順士 Its bizarre how underrated that album is. I personally think it's my favourite of theirs
totally agree, album kicks ass
I got no real skin in the Linkin Park game, but I liked the points made in the video. It does seem like _Chester Sings To A Beat_ would probably be better received as a side-project.
More importantly, however, it's great to see you reaching your 100th video, man. I know you like to do the self-deprecation thing, but when it comes down to it, I hope you know that you're rather solid on the content. \m/
I appreciate it man \m/
Lol no worries, and I sincerely appreciate your concern.
I had watched this video just yesterday when I found out about Mike's channel... so strange how life can be, it makes me sad, didn't see Chester suicide coming...
You should watch the FineBros video "Linkin park reacts to teens react..." (it's only 1 member of LP but it's still an interesting video)
Eq_NightGlider_ reaction to a reaction to a reaction lol
I thought linkin parks newest album sounded like linkin park. They try something new every album, and to be honest, i was expecting their new sound after the hunting party. The new album was great, but it just happened to be a little softer then usual. They tried to change their sound, which people didnt like. I liked it, but it wasnt what they usually are. It seems like they do what they like to do, which i respect. I also feel like one more light was made as a plea for help from chester to the world.
Warning: I Am A Bot something new ... dropped general pop album
Hey mate ! I really do like your UA-cam Channel because like you, I do like Rock N' Roll, and at the same time I'm learning English as well. I'm sorry for my mistakes. Thanks
Welcome to the channel dude \m/
Thanks broo \m/
You saying that Linkin Park got softer over the years... but what about Hunting Party?
funny thing is that almost every album has the heavy song with really crazy guitars and screams beside OML
@Cyberdemon Mike lol bad really
THP is great album.
Why do you think it's bad?
@Cyberdemon Mike I really can't understand you:
mistakes, bad record in general...
Its my favorite album from them.
It's not your favorite? OK, but please don't say that this album is bad, because you can't even argue your point.
@Cyberdemon Mike Just like I said, this is you opinion, and I don't suppose to agreed with you
Go back to listen their first 2 albums, and keep saying that they sold out with MtM...
Man, if you think you're going meta reacting to a reaction video you should _totally_ react to Mike Shinoda reacting to Teens React to Linkin Park. :D
You have the most chill and casual style, yet very very insightful. I find your videos incredibly interesting.
Just Michael but the lyrics style is the same
You're just judging by the vocals which is like saying that THEY NEED TO sound like ht
Ace Dragon, the music. The vocals were good, the music was awful
Taylor
Ok
Michael there are other bands that you can probably listen to then man
holy shit babylon 5.... no one knows wtf that is and it kills me everytime.... soooo happy I knew that show going into this vid.
B5 is the bomb \m/
Mike/Dicey Kogut You...I like you.
Very well said. Thank you.
Mike/Dicey Kogut, I think you mean that Given Up, Bleed It Out and No More Sorrow sounds like Hybrid Theory!! That's right!
Rip chester
You are becoming a knight haha, you channel is growing! Also i really like your "random jams" series.Keep up dude :D!
Lol! Right? Thanks so much for the props dude. I'm actually working on 2 Random Jams right now. They may be up next week \m/
You should listen to When They Come For Me from A Thousand Suns because it shares the same view as you, it's directed at people who want 'the next to be just like the first'.
Daniel Mullins why didnt they go in dead by sunrise's direction though?
Daniel Mullins maybe they will do. In future albums . Since Minutes to Midnight ( 2007 ) Linkin Park has change style every album.
@@Masashiwithlasers holy shit this hurts to read now
You know that ice inside the whiskey makes it watery. You should just cool the glass in the fridge.
I know. It's Jim Beam since I'm on a budget. I prefer Jim with Ice/Water.
It’s actually advised to mix whisky with a 30% of water (more or less, it depends on the whisky) cause it kills the taste of straight up alchool, making all the flavour and aroma pop
I love Babylon 5 too
Earned a follow with the Babylon 5 shout out, well done
revisiting this now (was on a linkin Part track because of their 20yrs anniversary of hbrid theory) and Mike says (at 14:00) that they sound the same.
I think he was specifically talking about Hybrid Theory and Meteora. However, I think there’s a great deal of variation on those albums.
you have good taste man Babylon 5 it's such an underrated show.
Love that show man. Totally underrated.
Remember the remember the branch off series Crusade?.
Damn, this is how you do a reaction video. You were very well spoken throughout the entire video and I agreed with just about everything you said. Shame to see a band I grew up with just basically fucking off their core fan base.
If us getting an even poppier album next time around meant Chester would still be alive, then I'd buy it gladly.
The minute you stop exploring, then just sit down and fucking die." ~Lars Ulrich describing Load (1996)
Don't get me wrong, Metallica's and Linkin Park's old stuff has a special place in my heart, but I didn't criticise them for exploring music..
Metallicas is going back to what they used to be somewhat
Congratulations on your Patreon thing! I like and appreciate how honest you are about trying to make some money out of your passion and your work :)
i've been seeing your videos for a while now, I love them! regards from Chile!
keep rocking lml
(That reply got way too long, sorry for that)
They have been a go to band for many who deal with depression, whether they went pop or whatever the lyrics at the core haven't changed much
Cant believe i just found your channel now.
Become The Knight No fucking way you legend! going to watch that straight away. Thanks for the great content!
I just noticed that he posted it a couple months before Chester Bennington passed away, that's crazy!
Anxiously watching your ice cubes water out your drink
Hahaha! Was that an AVGN reference you made at 10:05 into the video?
**Edit** yes it most definitely is, after hearing the rest of what you said there.
The Hunting party was fantastic album which was there last album
Crazy to think Chester passed 5 months after this video was uploaded.
I liked it because Chester's voice sounded nice and also, it's Linkin Park. You either like the new stuff or you don't. XD I miss you Chester. :'))
His voice and the chinking of the ice in the whisky is so satisfying to me.
Oh yea and the video content was very good too.
overall love it
React to the teens react to Marilyn manson
please make that happen
Definetly!
heyyy!!!!!!!!!!!
no ,
I'd love to see that.
When he says that he would say something important at the end, there was always something to interupt me from getting to the end
Linkin park combined rap and meatal perfectly
The best thing about it was that it was organic. It wasn’t just “Here’s the rock part and here’s the rap part,” it was a seamless fusion of genres.
I’m all for this dude’s reactions, this my type of humor! XD
There are only three words to describe mike on the new Linkin Park
FUCKING.
SPOT.
ON.
Listening to this video and your comments on the latest album made me fully realize that the reasons I really like a lot of the songs are just Chester's voice and their lyrics-- what made me fall in love with them in the first place (I wasn't as focused on instrumental at the time).
Totally disagree with your whole brand argument, but I like your commentary so I'll give you a thumbs up.
Fair enough. And I appreciate the good vibes/respectful disagreement \m/
Jacob Winges this is a rare occurence! That is a great reason to give a thumbs up
The most shocking thing is how less cynical mike was back then I think he was actually still the way he is now just dialed it back for UA-cam at the time but R.I.P Chester you and Chris are legends and will be missed
Same with suicide silence now. They should've just changed the name and leave the original in the past with Mitch.
This guy is so chill I subbed
The Hunting Party was pretty much Guitars and Drums all the way. Came before this new album.
I am a massive Linkin park fan and I always have been and I have to say I love the new album, it's so emotional and personal
Hey ! I'm french and I learn some english in your video :D You make me laugh man good work Keep going . (Hope my english is not to thrash xD)
Lol I'm glad you liked it man. And I'm happy you could learn some English from my video :) Not bad, btw \m/
Thanks ! :D \m/
1) Nu-metal
2) hip/hop
3) RnB
4) Rock
5) Industrial
6) Electro House
7) Trance
8) Trap
9) Dubstep
10) Drum and Bass
11) EDM
12) Heavy metal (THP)
13) Pop
To clarify that 7 studio albums plus 2 remix albums and 1 mashup album.
7:35 My little brother's been into Linkin Park since he was 5, they're pretty family friendly as far as nu metal goes
Same here. They were the first rock band I ever became infatuated with.
Subbed the moment you talked about Babylon 5
"Sooner or later, everyone comes to Babylon 5."
Jay Mike THP was ok, not like the overated piece of shit that is Hybrid Theory.
I remember Mr Hahn saying waay back while they were still touring for Hybrid Theory they were already ready to evolve from that albums style, theyd been playing those songs since the late 90s and were over it.
So many goddamn great musicians have died in the last decade
And now van halen😭😭😭😭
This decade isn't much better
His point at 22:00 kinda reminds me of how artist will do side project bands and they try different styles to satisfy their artistic needs but it doesnt comprise their style or reputation for their other band like how Corey Taylor does Slipknot and Stone Sour or how even Mike Shinoda did Linkin Park and then did the more hip hop centric Fort Minor
To know how wrong you are, just watch Mike Shinoda reacting to them, I don't care if you record it or not, I just want you to know the band's perspective on that "sudden change"
Also, all the bandmates of Linkin Park haven't changed since Hybrid Theory, none of them left and none of them joined later.
And also...
Hybrid Theory, Meteora, Minutes To Midnight, A Thousand Suns, Living Things, The Hunting Party, One More Light = Linkin Park.
DenDenSushi Their new style is shit. Their videos are shit. Your opinion is shit. Get over it
@@dan_the_pathmaster7934 How is it shit? oh cause you're stuck in the 2000s while they moved on, grow up.
Bro, so many bands completely change their sound that's just how it is.
I feel ya dude.
Mike actually watched this and sent them all shirts
So I've heard! And thanks for the good vibed in your other comment \m/
no prob I Love all their stuff but that could be the nostalgia googles. i don't see why people can't just respect other peoples opinions
Your analysis of the branding makes me think of how Devin Townsend approaches things. Strapping Young Lad, The Devin Townsend Band, The Devin Townsend Project, etc....
