Simeon Dobrev yeah I agree. City Of Evil kicks ass regardless of who’s singing, but I agree with Mike that nasally, whiny, and just bad vocals can take away from the song. M. Shadows wasn’t a complete butcher on that album, but it definitely was his worst vocal performance, imo.
TBH i thought that was where his vocals began to pick up on the whole. I wasnt a fan of some of the stuff on Waking the Fallen, but i think it is important to not that thy tried to focus on not screaming in this album so he still had to fully find his footing.
He's not a bad vocalist but him was the only part I didn't dig the first time I heard them, it reminded me of generic alt rock 2000s bands, I've only listened to a couple of songs tho, maybe the songs I heard didn't do him justice, in any case, I definitely have to give them another chance
No he's not. He has shortcomings and tries his best to cover them. Although I like his singing after a fashion, and think he's really a great asset as a musician to the band, I raelly don't think he has extremely good vocals. He starts having problems when he needs to hit high notes and sings from the nose oftimes.
I watch almost all of the FBE reacts, and frankly, that girl and another, chubbier one named Madison always ignite the comments. They are just kids so they have time to grow, but it seems they've been chosen primarily to be the antagonistic voice. Never anything positive to say, and it seems they go into everything expecting to be disappointed.
I honestly like m. Shadows’ voice, I think it fits well with how he uses it, but that is definitely a point of opinion. On the other hand, you have to admit he is definitely very skilled.
Kid: Why would they pick such stupid nicknames? Do you really want to go by Brooks Wackerman for the rest of your life? Guy: That's actually his real name. Kid: ... I died at that part!! XD
One of the biggest problems here I think, is that a lot of the kids look at the instrumentals, and pretty much everything that isn't the vocals, as the "background music", when in reality guitar, drums, and bass can add just as much if not more to the music as vocals, and should be viewed as just as big of a component instead of just the background music. It's as if the ones complaining about "no vocals and too many instruments" are putting way less value on the instruments than the voice, when in reality they really should have the same value put on them.
NimrodOnHoliday and that's why during the Metallica video they should've played them Orion or The Call of Ktulu. The music speaks in ways a vocalist may not to be able to.
I believe the bigger problem is that the modern music they are given to react to is metal and they really don't like it. There are more modern genres than pop, hip hop and metal.
Kids have always done that - It's part of growing up to be able to separate out and enjoy music for itself - Especially complicated and chaotic music like metal OR Classical {How many "kids" actually like Mozart, Beethoven or Tchaikovsky?}. Kids focus on the vocals and they don't like waiting for said vocals through 2 minute long introductions. I would like to see FBE give these kids a bunch of instrumentals from different bands to listen to and see how they feel - El Distorto de Melodica by Everclear needs to be in there.
I think it's funny that to the me the vocals function as the background music. Vocals when done well reinforces the feel that is laid out by the instruments in my opinion. I feel that the chorus of nightmare is a good example.

Avenged sevenfold - Save me Avenged sevenfold - buried alive my favorite 2 songs from this band an they fucking slayed at a show i saw last year too Great band
You can be disappointed with the ‘Hail to the King’ album all you want, but understand it was a tribute album to influential bands like Metallica and Guns n Roses
bossome_ in my PERSONAL opinion.. I believe Slipknot is the new metallica. They have just a little bit bigger fan base. I love both avenged sevenfold and slipknot, but i don't know i just feel like slipknots the bigger band haha. no hate to a7x though, especially when they're my favorite band. :)
Brenden Turner I just have trouble getting behind the never ending brutal onslaught of hopelessness and depression in Slipknot songs, it makes them really hard to enjoy listening too. And it bothers me how they can be so hypocritical: lamenting and mourning for a lost loved one one second and than committing verbal murder and suicide the next. And while a7x has some harsh songs I believe they are overall better musicans and more creative artists with a much larger musical range to satisfy most metal and hard rock fans.
I love M. Shadows voice especially in songs like Tonight the world dies,Acid rain and Save me.I recommend listening to Coming home of the album Hail to the king(If you haven't heard it)Since it has one of his best solos in my opinion.
I know dude, I was pissed when they didn't mention The Rev. Especially since Brooks, while he is an excellent drummer, is still a relatively new addition to the band.
both of my parents were rock and partially metal listeners so musically i was raised just right

The rev was one of the most insanely good drummer, Synyster Gates is of the most insanely good guitar shredder of all times! I don't really like most of their latest songs, and I have overplayed their old stuff. But when their songs come up, I can always just be amazed by the guitars and drums, and I can really appreciate that.
Necrotic Carnage I have a tattoo with a quote from the song, “I have so much to say but you’re so far away” with the year my dad was born and the day he died. I love the shit out of that song.
Patricia Olivo exactly that's why they made songs like they did. They were not RIP offs they were meant to sound like songs from bands that had influence on them like guns n roses and Metallica. If you listen to 'This means war' and 'Sad but true' you will see it right away
I really liked that album but I understand why it gets criticism. Shepherd Of Fire and This Means War in particular got a ton of criticism for sounding too much like Metallica. It just depends on where you draw the line between “tribute/homage” and “ripping off”,how understanding you are of a band’s reasoning for doing it,and just how much you care about that stuff. The line between “influenced sound” and “copycat sound” matters too. Greta Van Fleet has really been forcing that conversation with their Led Zeppelin influenced/copycat music.
M. Shadows may not be a mind blowing amazing vocalist but the guy is excellent, if Axl Rose is the definitive voice for Guns N Roses then M. Shadows defines A7X vocally at least for me. And to answer Mike's query about why metal is negative 90% of the time it's because metal is not supposed to be pretty. It's supposed to jarring and crazy, imagine in a hypothetical sense a picture of the world, if pop defines it's few features simply and rock n roll is more upbeat about it then metal presents to you a darker and more sinister side of the same picture you wouldn't be able to find in rock
My line between rock/metal is drawn by stuff like Guns n Roses, Van Halen, Judas Priest, and Iron Maiden. They are all hard in terms of rock, but light in terms of metal.
Thats maybe more of the Extreme Metal line? Something like Painkiller is pretty heavy, and I guess also draws heavy from extreme metal influences where Priests older albums were pure Heavy Metal.
I don't know...I'd say Maiden is Metal, through and through. But the others I agree with. Priest has some heavy albums / songs, but yeah, more rock than metal.
3:47 this is what I love about A7X as opposed to other metal groups. It feels more melody based and there’s more to latch on from a songwriting perspective. I always appreciate the technical mastery on display in metal, but in terms of enjoying sound, usually not as much except when it comes to this band
That’s only what Matt’s voice sounded like at the beginning, like Sounding the Seventh Trumpet and Waking the Fallen, but he’s now improved his range so it’s not so nasally when he goes up there
Actually Matt's voice is one of the best parts of A7X becaaaause Its not your stereotypical super growly screams or one that sounds like a lumberjack nor is it one of those Metalcore bands whose every singer sounds like a teenage boy barely hitting puberty. And I can stand the nasal voice because I grew up listening to a lot of GnR and my own voice. ALso I think it fits well with Syn's guitar. So all in all Shadow's vocals make the band also stand out a bit more than It would without (also the song composition not being your boring verse chorus verse chorus solo chorus chorus) oh and also I appreciate that they have semi clean vocals not growling (which I dont get... why does everything have to be screaming and growling. The first 2 albums came almost too close to that for me to like them.Too much of a clean vocals guy I am (well clean vocals with power behind them,)) but also not going too clean in parts.
Astral Panda the fact that its different then the rest does not make it good. not saying he is bad, but avenged sevenfold would sound a lot better with a thrash vocalist imo
I don't get why they kept cutting back to the blonde girl. Every reaction is just her saying she doesn't like it. She says multiple times in the video that she likes pop and doesn't like rock music. Then cut back song after song like, "What will she think of this one?" as if she gave a different answer each time.
There's the intro one, The one after the second chorus, The one that starts during the clean part, The one right before the last chorus And I think you can consider the clean outro as a solo, so that makes 5 I think
6:27 I feel like the metal songs that actually have positive lyrics are usually the less popular ones e.g. Escape and Don’t Tread on Me (to a lesser extent) by Metallica. Both are kinda about being independent and not letting people tell you what to do, and both almost never get played live.
Hey mike, the song far away was written for the drummer the rev after he passed away, it was more of a way to remember him and the lyrics talk about how they feel about him and how they miss him pretty much, which is why that song is slower and less hard. I dont know if you know this but I just wanted to point it out. Keep up the good work !
Raiju B. Fox I think that calling this songs (exept of "The Light") positive isn't correct. This songs are meaningful, but not positive. I don't think someone will call the "Mommy don't do it again" part in Down With The Sickness positive.
Disturbed and positiveness? Down with the sickness is far from positive in any means. However, "history-metal" bands do have some positive songs (like viking metal, Sabaton, etc.)
Inferis I wouldn't say they are particularly positive when we're talking about lyrics of war and battles I mean rise of evil isn't exactly positive or even carolus rex it's still about a general who causes death and destruction but the music sounds happier because it's all mostly power metal because that's what the theme of battle goes well with the most
That’s interesting that the quality you dislike about M Shadows’s voice is what I love about it. I think it’s the perfect amount of nasal, and he manages to have this warm, nasal element without sounding like a whiny teen. He still sounds like a man! It’s so unique, and I love it!
They do, really. Let me explain, their songs are the same in FORMAT, not MUSIC. Most of their songs start off with this epic, powerful riff, then have a melodic chorus, usually containing a high-pitched guitar line, lyrical singing, and a bit more basic chord structure that adds more flow to it. Most songs, they nail it, though there are a few that I would like to lose the lyrical part.
Hail to the King doesn't really sound like King Nothing. At all. I suppose the song you were thinking about was This Means War, which is more or less a cover of Sad but True. And yeah the part about Brooks was hilarious. XD
Lord Popo it's not just about the vocal range and other abilities, but also about the feels. In Victim you can literally hear him hold back a couple of tears. And yes, about the vocal range, sure it is undeniable. Even take I Won't See You Tonight part 1 as an example!
He’s definitely a polarizing vocalist for sure. I don’t think it’s about whether he’s a good vocalist though. I think we can all agree that he’s a good vocalist. I think it’s more about whether his vocals are good for metal music. So in that regard I understand if some people don’t like his vocals.
I'd liken A7X more to GnR than Metallica. ✅ Diverse sound ✅ Guitar work ✅ Band image ✅ Accessible to those who don't typically listen to this type of music
+FScorpion678 Maybe Post-Black Album when they went mainstream, and definitely compared to newer sub-genres, but at there time in the 80's. not even close.
15:27 Fucking spot on. Avenged was the first band that got me started in rock/metal. The Rev was a huge part of that. Dude had a crackup personality and the fact that his drumming was so badass but he still managed to lay down backing vocals live was amazing. I cried when I heard he died. The fact that they don't even give him a brief spoken mention is a huuuuuge disrespect. Anyone that knows A7x knows that whatever current host or 'drummer' they have is just a recepticle for the Rev's soul. He's still the one up their jamming with them as far as I'm concerned.
You can tell what kind of parents Sophie has, probably get's it from her mother. She's so judgmental and closed-minded. Then again, she's like what? 6? Maybe she won't turn out as bad as it seems.
Ian Darmetko give her 10 years and I’m sure once she turns into a teenager or adult she’ll learn to grow out of what her parents influenced into. Some kids aren’t raised to listen to metal simply because metal isn’t “soft” which is pretty ignorant because those who learn how to play instruments are very intelligent.
Just Michael I get that you might not like them, and that's fine, but they are far from a mockery. They're not for everyone, sure, but I've seen them live and what they produced on stage was far from a mockery of metal. Top 5 shows I've ever seen
Randomly found this video surfing through UA-cam. avenged sevenfold is one of my favorite bands and I’ve also always considered myself a music snob. With that being said this video is hilarious and totally made my day. I will definitely be watching more of this channel.
I think M. Shadows' vocals are crucial to the unique sound that seperates them everyone else. It's understandable that many people don't like the way his vocals go a little more emo than they would want but I love it.

TimesAreHard it would be like megadeth without Dave.
The vocals were the main reason I got into A7x in the first place
Most of the time what takes me to get into a band are the Vocals and the perfect tone in Guitars, that was Avenged Sevenfold.

And while a7x has some harsh songs I believe they are overall better musicans and more creative artists with a much larger musical range to satisfy most metal and hard rock fans.
how did i not find this guy before hes really fucking funny
I'm still waiting for kids or elders react to slayer
They already did a video with elders....
Tatiana Novak liar, liar plants for hire😒
Niggato The Niggakage well it wasn't this channel and it really exists its just another reaction channel
Gotta disagree with you about the singer. M. Shadows IS Avenged Sevenfold
You suck
@@Fredrik_ridd everybody has their opinion about m shadows let him have his
Daniel Gibeault ok
Avenged sevenfold would not be avenged sevenfold without M shadows
Unrealgamer exactly, him and syn make that band, and m shadows voice is so ridiculously powerful.
I love M. Shadows as a vocalist. I never found him nasily. I but I see where people come from! I do agree he's gotten better with time.
Especially since Brooks, while he is an excellent drummer, is still a relatively new addition to the band.
both of my parents were rock and partially metal listeners
so musically i was raised just right
The rev was one of the most insanely good drummer, Synyster Gates is of the most insanely good guitar shredder of all times! I don't really like most of their latest songs, and I have overplayed their old stuff. But when their songs come up, I can always just be amazed by the guitars and drums, and I can really appreciate that.
First time I heard So Far Away I balled my eyes out man
Necrotic Carnage I have a tattoo with a quote from the song, “I have so much to say but you’re so far away” with the year my dad was born and the day he died. I love the shit out of that song.
I think most of us balled our eyes out to that song, beautiful piece
Hail to The King was more of a tribute album though
But it was still hella good.
Patricia Olivo exactly that's why they made songs like they did. They were not RIP offs they were meant to sound like songs from bands that had influence on them like guns n roses and Metallica. If you listen to 'This means war' and 'Sad but true' you will see it right away
It was by far their worst albums
Patricia Olivo I would definitely say that Nightmare is telling tribute album it's basically a goodbye to Rev
I love M shadows tho
I love Shadows too
Justin Budach the old m shadow is kinda meh but the newer is pretty awesome
me too
Everyone does :)
Infyra the opening riff to painkiller sounds like a nuke going off
I don't know...I'd say Maiden is Metal, through and through. But the others I agree with. Priest has some heavy albums / songs, but yeah, more rock than metal.
Maiden is definitely metal, Judas Priest less so but they have some heavy albums. Gnr and Van Halen though are Hard Rock for sure.
Ever heard of blue öyster cult? UFO? They *are* the true line between those genres
3:47 this is what I love about A7X as opposed to other metal groups. It feels more melody based and there’s more to latch on from a songwriting perspective. I always appreciate the technical mastery on display in metal, but in terms of enjoying sound, usually not as much except when it comes to this band
Synyster Gates is a fucking phenomenal guitarist and EXTREMELY underrated.
MIKE ROASTING A KID😂😂😂😂IM DEAD
Well she is the nightmare that comes to life, she likes pop music and I'm pretty sure still today, she's still likes pop music
Personally I love Roman Sky a lot and I wonder how the kids would've reacted to that song
Amazing song, especially their unplugged version.
The vocals are far from amazing but his voice tone and style is one of the things that makes this band stand out
Except it's a popular style. Separate the vocals out and nobody would know what band he was in.
Zebes 26 ah I'll stick to Muse for good vocals
His vocals are the biggest reason I could never get into this band
his live vocals were pretty sick from 2008-2011
I love his unique voice. It matches their music great!
3 years late, but So Far Away obviously a tribute to the Rev. And the Hail to King album was tribute to ALL of their influences. It was a cool album.
My first Avenged Sevenfold song was A little piece of Heaven, I got thrown very deep into the genre and continued to listen to them somehow
I'm so happy he likes A7X, i don't know why lol
I'm pretty sure that Dying Fetus is the most positive metal band of all time.
That is the greatest comment on the Internet
Lmao I'm dying
Creeperkiller like a Fetus
LOL
I just watched Mike the Music Snob Ep. 1 and holy shit Mike u lost a lot of weight good job man
MCioffi2003 I know! And and I am trying to loss a lot of weight as well.
That’s only what Matt’s voice sounded like at the beginning, like Sounding the Seventh Trumpet and Waking the Fallen, but he’s now improved his range so it’s not so nasally when he goes up there
Sydney!! The only hope for the future. I love when her eyes light up, I think, OK, we will be alright
Von Bass And the other metal head kid
Astral Panda Took the words right out of my mouth
Astral Panda I love the nasaly voice it works so well with their style
It just doesn't fit.
Astral Panda the fact that its different then the rest does not make it good. not saying he is bad, but avenged sevenfold would sound a lot better with a thrash vocalist imo
His voice luckily grew thicker and had more warmth in his later work that when he started.
I don't get why they kept cutting back to the blonde girl. Every reaction is just her saying she doesn't like it. She says multiple times in the video that she likes pop and doesn't like rock music. Then cut back song after song like, "What will she think of this one?" as if she gave a different answer each time.
Hmm your right the more I think about it....
That girl's just plain af. In any other video if it isn't pop and cliche girly shit of this generation, she just says "I don't like it".
shes kinda creepy
Y'all really talking shit about a kid
Mike's talking shit about that kid lol
The metal elitist part of this video is why I like this channel
I think there's like 4 solos in the stage
Jack Rota Every song on The Stage has a solo in it.
B C S i mean the song
There's the intro one,
The one after the second chorus,
The one that starts during the clean part,
The one right before the last chorus
And I think you can consider the clean outro as a solo, so that makes 5 I think
Pablito el Sancho still doesn’t have as much solos as Hangar 18, which stands at ~11
The Stage IS a Solo
6:27 I feel like the metal songs that actually have positive lyrics are usually the less popular ones e.g. Escape and Don’t Tread on Me (to a lesser extent) by Metallica. Both are kinda about being independent and not letting people tell you what to do, and both almost never get played live.
Somebody please turn that girls face into a meme
I will
What time
the Kingdom demands --- Make Sydney a SQUIRE !!!!!
One of my favorite songs from Avenged Sevenfold is Afterlife (Really like the solo).
Hail to the king and M. Shadows’s voice is the reason why i startes to listen to A7X and now i’m a huge fan of avenged sevenfold
Disturbed has some positive songs. Down with the Sickness, The Light, The Vengeful One (in the "f*ck the media way).
Raiju B. Fox I would pretty much say David draiman got me into metal his voice is incredible
Disturbed has great lyric themes
Inferis I wouldn't say they are particularly positive when we're talking about lyrics of war and battles I mean rise of evil isn't exactly positive or even carolus rex it's still about a general who causes death and destruction but the music sounds happier because it's all mostly power metal because that's what the theme of battle goes well with the most
Brooks wackerman is an amazing drummer. He was with bad religion for a while
I acually love Hail To The King its acually what got me to start activly lissining to avenge 7fold
"why is every metal song I hear negative"....power metal!
Korpiklaani - Vodka :D
That’s interesting that the quality you dislike about M Shadows’s voice is what I love about it. I think it’s the perfect amount of nasal, and he manages to have this warm, nasal element without sounding like a whiny teen. He still sounds like a man! It’s so unique, and I love it!
Wassup mike my dude huge A7X fan here
does anyone else think that "sounding the same" and avenged sevenfold does not fit in the same sentence?
They do, really. Let me explain, their songs are the same in FORMAT, not MUSIC. Most of their songs start off with this epic, powerful riff, then have a melodic chorus, usually containing a high-pitched guitar line, lyrical singing, and a bit more basic chord structure that adds more flow to it. Most songs, they nail it, though there are a few that I would like to lose the lyrical part.
MIA probably has one of the best solos along with the stage (the album not just the single)
it's also one of the hardest to pull off
@@vdi419damn skippy
Imagine if they showed them the video to a little piece of heaven
My wedding song 😂
This video got me into dream theater like 6 months ago, thank you
Happy to be of service \m/
7:35 totally my fav part of the video
Hail to the King doesn't really sound like King Nothing. At all. I suppose the song you were thinking about was This Means War, which is more or less a cover of Sad but True.
And yeah the part about Brooks was hilarious. XD
Oh shit LOL You're right about that
listen to the king nothing solo
I agree
I feel like M. Shadows best vocals are in Shepherd of Fire, which is one of my favorite songs of A7X
James Dumas what about Victim
Rajdeep Ganguli ever heard Betrayed? That fucking vocal range is INSANE
Lord Popo it's not just about the vocal range and other abilities, but also about the feels. In Victim you can literally hear him hold back a couple of tears. And yes, about the vocal range, sure it is undeniable. Even take I Won't See You Tonight part 1 as an example!
His best vocals are definitely on trashed and scattered or tonight the world dies
Go listen to unbound (wild ride)
This music is not a phase !!!! Once you are in you CANNOT GET OUT !!!! 🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽
The part where you say "I know she's just a kid" reminds me of where in the TV show Dexter he thinks "I will not kill my sister"
I was waiting for you to do this lol
Justin Budach askettti!
I have to disagree with your opinion on Shadows but still a good vid
Alex Donnelly I agree to but in after life he was a little nasley
He’s definitely a polarizing vocalist for sure. I don’t think it’s about whether he’s a good vocalist though. I think we can all agree that he’s a good vocalist. I think it’s more about whether his vocals are good for metal music. So in that regard I understand if some people don’t like his vocals.
I'd liken A7X more to GnR than Metallica.
✅ Diverse sound
✅ Guitar work
✅ Band image
✅ Accessible to those who don't typically listen to this type of music
You can attribute all of those to Metallica.
The Darien Lux Metallica aren't really accesible to pop fans that want to try metal out
Lord Popo Metallica is EZ the most mainstream metal band
And a vocalist that is hit or miss for a lot of people.
+FScorpion678
Maybe Post-Black Album when they went mainstream, and definitely compared to newer sub-genres, but at there time in the 80's. not even close.
15:52 as a fan of a7x
Thank you Mike
Huge respect to you
And great channel too btw
You can tell what kind of parents Sophie has, probably get's it from her mother. She's so judgmental and closed-minded. Then again, she's like what? 6? Maybe she won't turn out as bad as it seems.
Ian Darmetko give her 10 years and I’m sure once she turns into a teenager or adult she’ll learn to grow out of what her parents influenced into. Some kids aren’t raised to listen to metal simply because metal isn’t “soft” which is pretty ignorant because those who learn how to play instruments are very intelligent.
Ian Darmetko well, she dug Zeppelin, sooooooo.....
@Paras Chopra i would say some of there music could be classed as metal but overrall it is more hard rock
“Of course you do Sydney.” 😂
The most positive metal gets? Babymetal
Not really...it actually works sometimes.
Just Michael nah
Cold Death 969 true, but I was aiming for the most positive as in image and sound. They do have some heavier songs tho
Just Michael trash metal
Just Michael I get that you might not like them, and that's fine, but they are far from a mockery. They're not for everyone, sure, but I've seen them live and what they produced on stage was far from a mockery of metal. Top 5 shows I've ever seen
I like how he says so far away is worse than the others even though it was made for the rev
Gates is my favorite guitar player and the reason I started playing. So a7x always meant a lot to me
Randomly found this video surfing through UA-cam. avenged sevenfold is one of my favorite bands and I’ve also always considered myself a music snob. With that being said this video is hilarious and totally made my day. I will definitely be watching more of this channel.
Kinda sad to see Tyler and Jackson not wanting to listen to metal...but hey we still got Sydney!
I think M. Shadows' vocals are crucial to the unique sound that seperates them everyone else. It's understandable that many people don't like the way his vocals go a little more emo than they would want but I love it.
M. Shadows has a very unique voice and I really like it. It's one of the band's main identifying characteristics.
I like how Corey Taylor raise his children. Scream at their face :
You listen to Slayer! And you'll like it!
