Hi Brad. As a Samsung Notebook 9 owner there is one MAJOR con you missed: The S-pen button being stuck to opening the air command is terrible for artists who have shortcuts and prioritize workflow. I spent a good week (cumulative hours) trying to find a workaround.
is there a way to disable it? Also, i thought this was introduced with the Notebook 9 Pen. Is it in the older Notebook 9 Pro (the version with the s pen)?
I could pass on this sponsorship and still pay all the bills. But it's nice to have some extra money around going into the busy season when a lot of new products start coming out to review.
Brad Colbow wow you replied.and that good to new that my favorite tech UA-camr has enough to pay his bills. Stay safe man and every one reading this. Edit:oh anda do you now any drawing tablets for a beginner
I have an older galaxy book with the i5. I love it. The spen is terrific. Just couldn't run adobe products on it without it heating up so it's now a general use tablet but it is slick. Corel Paint and autodesk work great on it.
Thanks to this review, I bought the older version from 2017. The Notebook 9 Pro. Getting all the same things but with a GPU? Now that's a bargain! The screen is a tad worse, but still better than most. Getting over 100% sRGB is kinda what matters. I'm using an S4 pen with it now - considering trying the Wacom One pen. Oh yeah - i got this for $550. The best purchase I've ever made.
I just bought one yesterday and it will arrive in the mail tomorrow. I am an artist so I am super pumped to receive this. I also bought in the hope of doing video editing with Adobe Premiere Pro which I am a newbie at but need to learn for a job I was chosen for. With this video did you do your editing with the Book Flex?? 🙂
Update on my previous comment: I have received it! And it is more then I expected! My eyes lit up!!🤩 Attention artists! The installed pen works flawlessly with the pressure sensitivity! It actually makes me want to draw more than I have been. I bought this for video editing with Adobe Premiere Pro which is a high end professional software, and it too works amazing with no lag or much buffering time to inport/export. This computer is sleek and meets all of my expectations! I'm not worried about the RAM or storage for now as it is plenty. If needed, later I can add an external drive. Oh, I also purchased an 7-in-1 adapter by Anker which allows me to plug in the normal size SD card size plus ethernet, 2 USB's, and HDMI. It also has a micro SD slot but the laptop has that already. The BLUE is stunning!!! My favorite color!!😍 Which may not appeal to some but I love it!! I love being able to use this as a laptop AND a tablet! I have the best of both...tablet for drawing and laptop for video editing! The QLED graphics on this does not dissapoint either! Super bright if you want it to be...which works well outside too. Great size to watch movies! I've heard some people complain about the speakers but I don't need it super loud. I just connect my bluetooth earbuds anyway or I can connect my bluetooth speaker for music or movies. Did I mention it has Alexa too! Great for playing a quick track! The ONLY thing so far which bothers me is that the AC plug for power is on the left side of the laptop. Just a small annoyance because of where I sit on my bed and where the outlet is for me on the right side. But not a dealbreaker. It has the same qualities Samsung is known for. I also have the Samsung Galaxy S8+ phone which I love. This laptop was worth every penny!! And I'll take very good care of it!!😁👍👍❤🤸♀️

At 1400 usd there is no excuse for not including 16GB of RAM at that cost. Add on a 150 USD model with a max-Q GPU or build a version with a Ryzen APU that would work better to accelerate some graphics apps.
In Germany/Europe this model got better specs. Must be the first time this happens. :') NVIDIA® GeForce® MX250 16GB RAM Is more expensive though: 2.046,08 € / 2311.17 USD Makes it very appealing. But i'll wait to see what Luna display for Windows will be. (A combo Ipad / Razer Stealth 13" could be more interesting :p )
Thank you for spending the time and also the money to do this review, especially in the times that we are in. I have the Korean version of the Flex that comes with the MX250 and 16GB or ram. It's a nice machine but the audio volume is terrible. I would of also like to have seen just one more port added to the left hand side and also that chin - yes, it was totally unnecessary for it to be that large. Screen resolution wise - I have absolutely no problem with the lack of 4K option and to be honest, I wouldn't choose a 4K version due to the battery life and weight. One other thing; manufacturers of 2 in 1 laptops really need to allow for more memory expansion in their devices.
numpang euy it has iPadOS 🤷♂️ apple will never be thinking of windows ... (because ... macOS) but it would be complicated and lazy if you put macOS into iPad ...

Thank you for your videos!! I hope you can do a review sometime about S Pens and also list specific Wacom pens that are compatible (you mentioned that some Wacom pens are not) and the pros and cons of the Wacom vs S pen for drawing on Samsung devices.
Pro Tip: Windows has a feature that disables the touch screen when its recognized... and that is somewhere 10-12mm above the screen. So you shouldn't get any problems with that palm rejection.
Thanks a bunch for the reviews! I am new to digital art & would like to learn more as well as animation too, currently trying to find a stationary & portable tablet that works best for both options for me. I look forward to learning more ✌🐼
looks so elegant, so compact, and the number pad is a great addition ... I love it. only one question: what about the graphic processor? can one play a decent game on it?

Excellent review. my current 3 are HP Envy x360 13" (Ryzen 4500U - 16gb), Acer Spin 5 13" and this. That chin makes it easier to hold when you treat it as a flat tablet - keeps your thumb off the touch surface.
I think it's strange that Samsung cut the EMR digitizer to cut the cost when they (and everyone else) is getting Wacom EMR in their Chromebooks. It does make me salty that Chromebooks are getting the Wacom stuff. As for the *hinge* - this may be a Samsung issue. The Acer Spin 3 had a hinge that could support my hand in my experience, but the pen was so awful. I wish there were more 2-in-1 laptops with Wacom EMR - affordable, non-chromebook laptops.
I think wacom is in the interest of awacom to award ERM pen technology to chrome book rather than windows devices. If a large number of windows devices are granted, it is equivalent to the emergence of a large number of cheap wacom pen display and wacom mobile studio pro, and a large number of premium products of wacom will suffer. However, there is no effective painting art program on Chrome OS, which will not affect the business of wacom.
@@马永军-h6y That makes sense. With the growth of Android apps available on Chrome OS, it will only be a matter of time till Chromebooks become decent art devices (Krita became available on Android OS last month). With the efficiency of Chrome OS, some artists will move to Chromebooks naturally, and Wacom will have backed themselves into a corner. After all, Chromebooks are more or less Android tablets with a keyboard. Wacom might be planning to pull EMR from them as well, considering they're USI tech in development

Looking forward to the Samsung BookFlex 2 15.6 and 13"5G versions. Saw a review from overseas and the drawing seemed to have a bit more lag than the 7+.
I have the older galaxy book, which came with keyboard, and bigger pen, but this doesn’t seem to be much of an upgrade. It still has 8gb ram which is bare minimum, and why would you have 12gb? I would recommend 16gb, or 32gb for running adobe. No artist is going to use the small spen for any length of time, without getting serious rsi. I think tablet makers need to address the screen now. Matt, textured, and anti reflective need to be standard now, especially for artists. It does seem over priced for a newer machine. I think i would rather stick to my older one.
Thank you! I agree, a good first effort by Samsung into the convertible sector though it falls short for me. The hinge appears a bit flakey and needs some work and a glossy display is disappointing. Also, I would like a 16gb version with a dedicated GPU, maybe the MX350 or at least an Iris Plus version. Also, although the colour is original, for those of us less extrovert, maybe a more business orientated shade. Finally, the 15-inch could easily have holstered a larger s-pen just to improve the note-taking experience. Maybe #2?
It's not their first attempt at all - but that's the bad news. Well, part of the bad news. The 16gb ram model is only in Korea - and it has MX250. I had this on my wishlist till i learned the US wasn't getting the version with a discrete GPU. I can make sacrifice from the 16gb to 12gb, but taking away the GPU too is absurd - especially since the price is so similar
Pretty much agree with everything you said! A solid hinge is important and I'd be scared to have only 12 gb of ram. I mean my phone has that much ram!?! I'd add that a higher resolution screen would also be nice. Also, even the s-pen in the Note phone should be larger. I like what Microsoft did with the Surface X pen, like a carpenter's pencil. Would be nice if s-pen was like that (obviously shrunk down for phone but at least 2x as wide.)
I live in Germany and really wanted to buy the Book Flex. But the 13" version comes only with the i5, 8gb Ram and a 256SSD for 1500€. The bigger 15" costs 2000€ but at least you'll get the i7, 16gm ram and a 512gb SSD. But man... 2000€ totally not worth it. I'd rather buy the Galaxy Tab S7+ that has a similar pricing or even the Surface book 3. But the price difference between US and Europe on the flex is huge.
Wait - Wow. The video i was begging for! I don't remember when it was, but I was begging for this review since the CES video! I still want one, but only Korean version since it has the graphics card i want. I don't need it, i just want it.
I'm stuck between the base model surface book 3 and the galaxy flex. They're the same price at the moment and I'll have to buy a pen for both . I'm leaning surface book just bc I've been eyeing them since they came out and I like the tablet. I'm new to photoshop and have very little experience in illustrator. Mostly, I want to be able to take my current work and be able to clean it up, add text, and start learning digital illustration. I don't do any video or 3D modeling. Besides using it for art, this laptop will be my daily driver but I'm a little less worried about general performance as I'm upgrading from a 7 year old clunker.
I just bought this and am just getting it set up and I'm really frustrated that the pen doesn't have a hover right click! Is there a solution for this? I've gone through all the settings and it seems like the only option is to make press and hold the right click but that doesn't work at all for drawing.
Looks good. Seems like being able to run Adobe Creative Suite is a plus too. I hadn't considered this one, but will now. I also wonder if they have a matte screen film that will give it more of a paper feel.
I think they have a Mette screen film so the user will hold speed from the pen not to quick and yes more paper. But it will take a long ride to like paper
I'm still waiting for the Galaxy Book Q to come out with dual Windows and Android support (Samsung TouchWiz/One UI, not stock Android). (It was originally called the Samsung ATIV Q back to June 2013, but has been marked unreleased since then. In 2016, the ATIV series folded into the Galaxy series, unifying Windows and Android together.)
Surface Book 3 in Canada ranges from $2200 to $4100 (CDN) - yay conversion rates! I'd get the the Flex before the Surface book even if it wasn't cheaper.
Hi Brad, sorry to ask some silly question. What video shooting device (lens) you used for your video recording? I have noticed some very beautiful bokeh at the background. Nice video on the Samsung Galaxy Book Flex. Thanks.
Thank you Brad. Can you set the putton on the S-Pen to activate the ALT modifier (for color picker in photoshop )? I am asking because I read that it activates the " Air Comand" . Is there a driver I can customize what the button (s) will do with?. I am considering the Galaxy book pro 360 13" and I presume it is similar.
I love this 2 in 1 . i already tried the s pen with other device (note 10 plus - note 20 - tab s4 - s6 )and it's far better than all the Wacom Aes - n-trig pens that you find on other similar device . I need a 2 in 1 for illustrations but that it's powerful enough to do some light 3d modelling , that can manage big PSD file and that have a good screen . This laptop have only a HD screen and it have just a nvidia MX 250 for this reason i don't know if it's powerful enough . I found other alternative like the yoga c940 and the old HP zbook x2 (you did a review about it) . i also try out the asus zenbook pro duo but it's kinda expensive and the pen it's not the best but overall it's an awesome laptop. What you think about it ? What 2 in 1 you think is the best for what i need to do ? You believe that something like an ipad pro can be a decent alternative too ? Ty for the answer in case . Very nice and in depth review ! 👍👌🤩
Hey Brad! I am just wondering: do you really need the glove for drawing on the screen? is not smart enough to just only recognize the presure from the pen? I am just mentioning this from an usability point of view as I am thinking about getting a Galaxy Book Flex but this thing would disturb me a lot. Thanks!
I bought the alpha version. It uses Microsoft's MPP 2.0 technology as the pen software. Not Wacom AES (Similar to MPP but wacoms) or Wacom EMR (which is what this and pro,pro2 uses) The big disappointment was that microsoft hides the pen pressure sensitivity for the pens...unless it's a microsoft pen...

People have gotten so carried away with silly stupid things no body and I mean nobody should base a laptop off of the sound of those tiny tiny speakers be glad you have speakers most desktops don't even have natively built in speakers you add whatever you want plus being a Samsung style notebook you have the best of both world usim dex to pair your laptop and the use of windows so also you connect your worthy bose boom box or you connect your Bluetooth which every should have Bluetooth or wired buds since driving anf talking on an actual phone isnt legal In most states so the jyst of this I'm sure the reason an actual fair and to the point reviewer left that out was because everyone knows that laptop speakers are subpar and be lucky we actually have speakers but the sky is the limit with what you can do with adding a plethora of options for this device. Things that we can customize change or modify aremt review worth now things like hard drive and physical functions and software limitations those are the important things heck I even thought the guy talking about a "chin" being too big to me was like who in the heck cares about something so darn silly it's a beautiful and very capable 2 in one device for a very fair and realistic price..
@@lightningtowing00 this would be fine if the laptop wasn't 1300 fucking dollars,if other laptops at this price have great speakers why doesn't this? Plus speakers are really important to me

Finally! I've been waiting for this review! I've had my sights set on this since you showed a glimpse of it during CES. My current laptop still has a couple more years of life, but when its time to upgrade, I'd been thinking of going for a 2-in-1, but had been turned off by the Surface Pros because I prefer a more traditional laptop form factor. The Galaxy Book Flex is going on my list!
What's your current?

So if you picked up the Book Flex, would you continue using the Huion?
@@kenbee1957 probably not. The main reason for choosing the Book Flex is to have the option of drawing without an external device.

I have never really understood the appeal of using a "drawing tablet"
I personally use an Acer Spin 5 with the touchscreen and also picked up a Tab S6 (and sometimes my trusty Note 10+)
I have seen screenless drawing tablets that go in the upper €400. My Tab S6 was €450 and it's a (former) flagship android tablet!
It blows my mind
I think the chin was put on specifically for a place to hold while working in tablet mode
Oh, I wish I could afford one! This is what I need - Thank You, Brad! 🙂
Now it a little bit chipper.
I use mine to erase just fine. Just gotta be near the screen
The chin was a conscious choice because when you hold the laptop in portrait mode you need somewhere to hold

we need clip studio ASAP
Can you do a video entirely about Spen replacements ? It's been fairly difficult to find a decent size pen for the s6 lite
lol, I hadnt seen one of Brad's videos in a while, and the raid shadow legends ad caught me off guard, they're invading artist videos now...
I can't be mad when I see someone talking about RAID because I've seen how much they pay these youtubers. Get that money Brad! Oh yeah! Cool product.
My eyes lit up!!🤩
Attention artists! And I'll take very good care of it!!😁👍👍❤🤸♀️
@@1111MMC woaw I really appreciate ur update comment , and use with premiere pro, you've sold me on it, glad to hear that premiere runs smooth on it.

Wow, it looks like I'm getting me one of these Samsung 2-in-1 babies instead of the 'iPadPro + Asus laptop + Wacom drawing tablet' combo I've been rocking for a couple of years now. That's a dream come true (or at least it will be, next year/next gen) for me, and no, Microsoft, your Surface pen doesn't do it for me.
I feel like your art style makes it difficult to judge the drawing capabilities of this. You don't draw any tapered lines, everything is solid straight lines...just design a tapered brush tool
This is probably the only issue to be had with this review - but in his usual reviews he has a line test where he draws at different speeds. Definitely the best reviewer when it comes to testing line wobble, tapering, and curves, He probably didn't do it here because the S-Pen being used here has been tested before on this channel

At 1400 usd there is no excuse for not including 16GB of RAM at that cost. Add on a 150 USD model with a max-Q GPU or build a version with a Ryzen APU that would work better to accelerate some graphics apps.

Which is better the Galaxy Book Flexes or the Galaxy Tabs?
Really nice you have inspired me alot to open my own channel much love🥰
I was waiting for you to do the tests of the pen including the ruler. Why did not you do it? :´(
I have the older galaxy book, which came with keyboard, and bigger pen, but this doesn’t seem to be much of an upgrade.
Thank you Brad, I was waiting for your reply, and you delivered
Can you show all of the pen displays and tables etc. that you don't use? like how you keep them or if you sell or do something with them
It has iris plus
I live in Germany and really wanted to buy the Book Flex. But the 13" version comes only with the i5, 8gb Ram and a 256SSD for 1500€. The bigger 15" costs 2000€ but at least you'll get the i7, 16gm ram and a 512gb SSD. But man... 2000€
totally not worth it. I'd rather buy the Galaxy Tab S7+ that has a similar pricing or even the Surface book 3.
But the price difference between US and Europe on the flex is huge.
Hi there, are you going to review the Samsung Book Pro 360 for artists?
"if you wanna go crazy and draw into portrait mode.." 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

That bottom bezel is very useful with palm rejection

Trying to determine if I should get this or the newer Galaxy Pro 360. I love this form factor as I have the Pixelbook. 🤷🏿♂️
Did you know the wacom one pen will work
Yes, I do know. Love the feel of the pen.
