No ping pong with these delays. There is stereo modulation but it is very subtle and tape like - sticking with the theme and concepts as close to an original as possible (despite them not being stereo).
Great video, can’t wait to get my hands on one. Does the re-2 allow you to to do a fully wet signal so you can basically use the unit as a tape emulator?
Hi Mike, we should be receiving more than 200 of the RE-2 in the next few days, along with 70 RE-202. Right now there appear to be between 30-40 of each on pre-order, so we will be able to fulfil all pre-orders in this batch, including yours. Our next shipment should be arriving in mid/late May.
You are definitely right - I appreciate how close these emulations are. I borrowed the RE-201 in the video there to compare them but the RE-201 I borrowed needs a lot of service and new tape to be at all comparable. So I can say that the RE-2 and RE-202 sounded better! But I can't deny the majesty that is the original!
Although, to play devil’s advocate, emulating tape is one of the easiest things to do. People want to make it out like those old devices are magic. They aren’t. Saturation, wow and flutter (LFOs controlling pitch and volume) and tone roll-off. That’s all tape is when you boil it down. Yes, the real thing is easiest to get “that sound”, but when you have companies dedicated to creating these digital recreations, I challenge anyone to pick either out in a blind test.
@@nickhaldin8674 Oh, it would be VERY easy to do a comparison between a real tape machine and digital pedals to highlight the difference in sound, especially when you start turning knobs in real time. Emulations can NEVER beat the real thing, NEVER.
@@JackNance22 there’s just as much difference between two real tape machines as there is between a real tape machine and an emulation. Once again, the science behind it is simple. Now if you wanna talk about vibe, instantaneous inspiration, feel, or any other abstract feeling, then yes. The real thing can’t be beat. But in a mix, or as a blind test, no one could reliably pick out the emulation from a handful of real ones. Its not so hard to find videos doing that.
@@nickhaldin8674 You speak as if all tape emulations are crafted to perfection. I own a Boss DD-8 with tape emulation, sounds pretty good on normal repeats, but at soon as I change the time of delays in real time it sounds phony, and that's one of their latest delay pedals. I believe many people like yourself are being conditioned into embracing digital recreations, so you can own nothing and be happy.
I have a Volante, it is a wonderful delay pedal. I’ll save the comparisons for someone unbiased but the RE-202 is a stiff competitor. It is not as complicated as the Volante but a lot of people including myself want something with superior sound, but ease of use.
The el capistan sounds amazing and can be used as a tape emulator fully wet. I think that one is definitely the direct competitor to the re-202. I have neither (yet), but I’m waiting to see more demos of the re-2 and 202
Appreciate thel demo... Next time, plz look into some riffs that actually work with delay, or maybe parts that actually use this effect. Slamming pentatonic, blues riffs, doesnt do this pedal justice..... Reggae, Setzer, Slowdive, U2.
@@shckltnebay I really appreciate your suggestions, however this is certainly something that is tonal preference that can be easily dialed to ones tastes. These are Dimarzio Area pickups (67/67/61) and I would highly recommend them. Bought from Long&McQuade!
Very clever to offer both a compact and larger version. I guess it shows how much people like the RE-201 delay sound.
MIDI control is a huge deal for the 202 as well. It actually takes PC messages for presets which I can work with
Excellent demo 🤜🏻💥🤛🏻
Boss should do an Offical CE1 like this.
That would be AMAZING in the larger format. And we wouldn't put it past them.

Need to somehow give you 1 billion updoots for the Surf Ninjas placement!
Haha. Kwanzu dude
I need this, can i add it to my tab LMAO
Yes, tell the person at Long & McQuade I said its ok.
The 202 with an Arduino based midi controller would be all i need in my FX loop.
It has midi I/O. Is that not enough?
@@nikdrown You still need to control it with something.
So this is what Ikegami San was grinning about. Bitchin!
Did you know that Ikegami-san was a big part of the SDE-3000 design? The Space Echo was a big inspiration for the sound quality.
Looks great ... but does it accept midi clock to sync all my other FX units, this will be a first on space echos and a game changer for me.
Yes the RE-202 has midi in and out! I have it constantly synced to my RC-505mkII and it’s wonderful.

Yes both can go 100% wet. 100% wet and the saturation control on the RE-202 can get some wild sounds going...
