Thanks for a great description of the playheads in the 201!

I think the main diference is in the preamp sound. The RE-201 saturates more and sounds a bit more organic. The RE-2 has less saturation but has a cleaner, more articulated tone, but sounds great as well.
@davedeville6540Had exactly the same thought, and you’re allowing the analog dry through to continue. I have some good cans and really struggled to tell which was which…in a blindfold, I’m not sure I could tell. Perhaps in the room, the 201 is warmer (again, this could be mitigated with analog booster) and more 3D but Boss have done a great job here. No two 201’s will sound exactly the same anyway according to those in the know.
Really great playing! I was surprised at how good the RE-2 sounded. It isn't the same as that 201, but it really does have a lot of the same character. Ordered one and am very excited.
I know my wallet is screwed when I go looking for a particular pedal video, then see there’s a Sasha one. I’m not sure there’s anything you can’t make sound amazing.
I can. Play a note. Tap the octave for a harmonic. So if you fret on 4, tap on 16. Bend on 4, tap on 16. Just tap hard enough to hit the fret. Tap it fast! Merry Xmas 🎄❤️
This is a pretty awesome 1-2 punch by Boss. Launching the RE-2 and RE-202 at the same time is a pretty bold movie especially with the recent announcement of the new Line 6 DL4. What a time to be a guitar player.
The 201 has internal knobs to adjust bias, peak level and vu meter- which should let you get more output and control/affect tone too- I run mine at 3 o’clock usually without clipping. Great vid!
thanks for the video. I'm pretty curious to see what differences there are between the re-20 and re-2. In the 20 there is a "volume" which acts as a drive... the 2 has a flutter control... I wounder however that the main character differences are, sound, build quality.... The form factor of the smaller pedal is definitely tempting, but is it as good as the re-20?
If the playhead diagram on my RE-20 is any indication of what the RE-201 WAS, 4 should be playheads 3 and 4. 1=1, 2=2, 3=3, 4=3+4, 5=1r, 6=2r, 7=3r, 8=1+2r, 9=2+3r, 10=1+3r, 11=1+2+3r
Corrected: playheads 3 and 4. 1=1, 2=2, 3=3, 4=2+3, 5=1r, 6=2r, 7=3r, 8=1+2r, 9=2+3r, 10=1+3r, 11=1+2+3r Lol. All this talk and excitement over 4 on the new ones had me typing things wrong! Lol
@@WoozleEffect No worries! It catches me out occasionally when I haven’t specifically used a 201 for a while as it’s different to the later ones. Never understood the point of the first 4 modes, I’m guessing the reverb isnt independently bypassable.
I just discovered your channel, and it's so good I added it to the "Recommend UA-cam Channels" list on r/guitarpedals. 😎👍 Fantastic demo, dude! Really nice playing and super thorough comparison. I already ordered both this, and the RE-202 so it's great to get a preview of what I can expect from them. That 201 is in unbelievable condition, btw. It's the cleanest one I think I've ever seen. Your friend is very lucky to have it! Keep up the great work, mate. 👍
Awesome man!! Thanks so much! Yes, that RE-201 is insanely clean. Judging by the footage it's even cleaner than the one Boss used for the official promo. It has had one owner before my friend bought it and he took really good care of it. The only way to tell it's old is because it smells old up close!
Hands down this is the best demo/comparison so far. There were times I would zone out and forget which one you were playing because they sound so close. The RE-2 definitely captures the character well. Just out of curiousity, do you remember where you had the wow & flutter set during this? I can't quite make it out, other than being before the 12 o'clock postition.
When you did that small A/B-ing (with the two-three notes and bends) it was really, REALLY close!😱 I already PO:d mine and it will be fun to tink with. All though I do NOT have an RE-201 to compare with (sad to say😔) Well, a small package, tap tempo AND stereo I/O:s pretty much checks all my boxes🥳🤓 Great vid!
How do you like it now that you've had it for a while? I just ordered mine. I'm kind of regretting it rn. Hopefully it is better in person than I'm hearing in the demos....
An Ibanez AD9 also has this perfect spacial sound, but sitting at the right frequency spectrum underneath the guitar where you don't actually need a reverb. But I still like a real spring one after. At least my Vermona VSR3 have been working great after.
Been listening to a lot of these demos but this so far is the best one. Great playing and a good amount a/bing which is really helpful. Thanks!
Just pre ordered the Re-2 because of your tremendous playing!
Yeaaahh, you'll love it!
As did I, very inspirational! Also got me for the Greer black mountain. That opening lick of that video is insane tone!
Sasha…… 4 demos in and I’m sold watching 10 seconds of yours. Thank you for what you do!
Whoah, 1.10 seconds in. That harmonic tap, slide up bend and slide, went straight through my soul. Incredible.
Came for the tones, stayed for the chops. So tasty dude!
Pre-ordered and very excited to play with it. Thanks for this awesome video!

Isn’t there also a digital preamp in the hidden options
Really great playing! I was surprised at how good the RE-2 sounded. It isn't the same as that 201, but it really does have a lot of the same character. Ordered one and am very excited.
Incredible! Lots of great notes and sounds were heard.
First timer here, great find. Superb chops dude :)
Heard you on IG and now randomly found this video. I just started playing a month ago, loving your playing and content!
Thanks a ton, Tom! I saw you're a photographer. Love those shots man. Your portraits are spectacular!
The music melts me. . beautiful guitar playing
Cool demo and great playing!
Great comparison demo Sasha🤜🏻💥🤛🏻
What Pedal are you using when you switch to the Panucci? Sounds amazing👌 Fantastic playing👍
What a feeling in your playing 🔥🎸Great Video !!
Great vid Sasha!✨

There are things out there that I passed on. I have a reputation to uphold 🤣
thank you for demonstrating the self oscillation
Great stuff thanks a bunch for sharing all of this!!
Great demo! Great playing! The RE-2 sounds awesome... will definitely give it a try when it's released.
Great review - and good sound examples! 👍👍 Thanks!
Sasha OMG 🙈🙉🙊 I almost forgot I was watching a delaypedal review 🤭 The phrasing on the introjam 😱❤
Thanks for the pedal
the opening jam is awesome! beautiful!
Awesome player! Love that intro so much
Great stuff as always man!
Thanks Jeff!
Nice comparison Sasha and great playing! 🙌🏽
Thanks dude! ❤
Wowza...I mean, the pedal is amazing. But that opening jam! ❤️
can anyone explain how he did the tap at 1:09-1:10 ?
I can. Play a note. Tap the octave for a harmonic. So if you fret on 4, tap on 16. Bend on 4, tap on 16. Just tap hard enough to hit the fret. Tap it fast! Merry Xmas 🎄❤️
New to your channel.... my dude your playing is out of this world! Great demo.

Manual of the Boss RE20 pedal:
Mode 4: PB2 + PB3
Mode 8 = PB1 + PB2 + reverb
Mode 9 = PB2 + PB3 + reverb
Mode 10 = PB1 + PB3 + reverb
Mode 11 = PB1 + PB2 + PB3 + reverb.
Infos on the backside of the cover of Roland RE 501:
Mode 4 = PB1 + PB2
Mode 5 = PB2 + PB3
Mode 6 = PB1 + PB2 + PB3.
The 201 has internal knobs to adjust bias, peak level and vu meter- which should let you get more output and control/affect tone too- I run mine at 3 o’clock usually without clipping. Great vid!
Wow, I didn't know that! Well, even if I did I wouldn't have opened up such a pristine unit 🤣
I think I need one, sounds amazing!
Wow. I was casually looking for vids on the RE-2, and I came upon this. Then I heard your playing.❤Instant sub.
Just got mine today and it’s friggin’ a w e s o m e!💚
Hi is the RE-2 reverb after the echo ,before the echo ,or in parallel with the echo ?Can you ask Boss thanks
There is more complexity with the 201, I would save 201 for recording, and use 23:19 re2 for gigging, and that’s through my iPad speakers.
Great demo ! I am an older guy still have 2 of the real 201 ‘s kinda laying around if one is interested.
How much?
@@vhs.ghost__ not sure yet maybe 1k

Man, I want that 202 as well 🤣
Hello, can you tell me what brand and reference you use as the first guitar in your video. Thank you.
The first guitar is a Baum Wingman!

There isn’t 4 playback heads on the RE201 or RE20. Mode 4 is heads 2 & 3.

I was typing out on my phone. There a typo.

Fine video. I have the RE-202 ... amazing ! you should try.
Sounds great! Your playing that is. Question, do the echo volume knobs also function as a mix knob?
Thank, Jose! Yes, echo volume is basically mix. Although it will not go 100% wet.
@@SashaIvantic I’m ok with that! I’m an acoustic guitar player and a mix knob is vital! Thanks!
Fantastic review! I wonder if you had a chance to test the RE-202 and how it would stack against the smaller RE-2
great vid

Kwam voor de RE-2. Bleef voor de manier van spelen, geweldig.
What's that guitar at the start? I love it
That's a Baum Wingman!
I give up. Wanted the Echofix badly and now..... Don`t know what to do at all :p
I do all my recording in the grand canyon. Saves me from having to buy the pedal.
Who makes that Les Paul copy?
Panucci in the Netherlands!
What’s the guitar?
The first one is a Baum Wingman, the second one a Panucci '59 Hollowbody
wat voor gitaar is dat?
Een Baum Wingman! Vers uit Denemarken. Of eigenlijk Indonesië ofzo. Maar ze zitten in Denemarken. Vrij verwarrend allemaal.
