One of my favorite Flash games was the Submachine series, by Polish artist Mateusz Skutnik (and his other games are also great). He makes beautiful hand-drawn artwork for his games. The first Submachine game started out fairly simple, you are in a building and you solve the puzzles to escape, but as the series went on it developed a really engaging, mysterious story and lore and such.
as an aside, a remastered full series collection called Submachine: Legacy was released just over a year ago. The dev is also currently working on a similar remastered full series collection of the daymare town games.
@@mbronchiosoarouseseseseses9755 Yeah, they are rather unsettling (especially with how the locations are eerily abandoned/empty), but even as a kid, the intriguing mystery kept me drawn in haha
Chat was being so weird over some of the flash games. Yeah, they're tasteless, but the internet WAS tasteless and wild in the 2000s, ya can't just pretend it wasn't.. I guess many of them weren't there to experience it? It felt weird seeing all these people act like children going "errrrrm, this is weird, skip!" Maybe I'm just being dumb but the reactions seemed so silly lol.
Yeah, it's pretty silly to get worked up over games made by people from back then. It was a different era. We'll be saying this years later as well with stuff like Hawk Tuah and Skibidi Toilet.
I've genuinely seen people describe the internet pre- social media as more innocent. like buddy that's because you were only on Neopets and Club Penguin.
@@AluminumFusion22 Very true. I think it's just human nature to change what is "acceptable" with time. I think there is some bizarre stuff nowadays, but I also acknowledge that I feel differently because the world I lived in was different. I feel bad for people who let it work them up.
@@ActionYakPolice Yeah, and it's hardly like it's gone. This culture still exists, it's just been scrubbed from any of the major big websites. Excluding Twitter I guess, but Twitter is insane in general lol.
its genuinely because a lot of them were babies at the time and don't know. they like to performatively reject stuff like this like they're all angels who can and never have done any wrong when it's very likely they'd be laughing at and making jokes of the exact same caliber if they had grown up around the time of most of these games. it's okay to just roll your eyes at something and take the piss out of it, it doesnt have to be the biggest deal ever known to man. i take one look at what the internet has become now, ESPECIALLY twitter where some of the most subhuman species ever dredged from the depths of hell come to spew some of the most racist, bigoted, schizophrenic things known to man, and i'd take stuff like this back any day of the week if it's the worst thing they had to offer
6:31 I vaguely remember having some sort of flavor infused water back in middle school in the early-mid 2000s, and it kind of tasted like someone splooged in there, and then spit some gargled LaCroix into the bottle. Translation: It did not taste good.
I'm praying and hoping Vinny plays the entries made specifically for the Flash emulation game jams on Newgrounds someday. They contain a lot of tiny gems.

1:16:25 What the hell, that goomba stomp sound is the sound the fluke intellitone probes make when turned on
i hope Vinny plays sick af flash games sometime, like the toonami rpg or the nat geo alien planet exploration
Paper Washington out here cuttin' the rug. 🪩
35:51 Holy moly! thats unity 3.0 web game! :D
I wonder if the game Xenos will ever make an appearance here.
Game logo is the word XENOS in white pixels. Gameplay is both simple and deceptively difficult at times.
MAN THOSE GAMES SCARED ME UNRATIONALLY AS A KID!!
as an aside, a remastered full series collection called Submachine: Legacy was released just over a year ago.
