Having very hard water I tend to stay away from them, learned the hard way. Have to agree with the Professor find fish that fit your water, don’t try to change your water for your fish. On a bright note I have started ordering seed for my garden/ greenhouse!😁
I absolutely love my green neons. It's neat watching their behavior change as you slowly increase their numbers. Just added some baby ember tetras as well, I can't wait until they color up!!
I have the "honorable mention" black neons and I have to agree with you about how hardy they are, as i have hard water where I live. They are thriving in their planted aquarium. And yes they have such a sweet personality with their tank mates. I can watch them from across the room with their glowing stripe swimming around the aquarium. I wouldn't have given them a thought if it weren't for one of your previous videos that featured them. They are now my favorite little tetras :)
Have you ever seen the Black skirt tetra? Shaped like an angel fish and is black and silver vertical stripes …….. lovely. And also the Serpae tetra which has reddish gold body colour. Black on the fins and black comma shaped mark behind the gills. Check them out. K
Ember tetras are amazing vibrant deep orange as they mature I have an ember tetra that’s easily hitting 3 years in my tank with a massive personality. I highly recommend
I love your videos. You are a joy to listen to and I appreciate all your information and tips. This, plus your tanks are always so artistic. You're a water artist!
I agree the ember tetra rating near the top of the list. I have 14 or so in a planted 20 long with some pileatus catfish and a Bolivian ram. The ember tetras school up fairly tight, and they're always out and about in the open areas of the tank.
I have Cardinals and Diamond head neon tetras together and i absolutely love them! I will be adding green neons in my 55 gal tank soon! These fishes are so beautiful!
I have embers and orange rasboras in my 36 Bow front....I love them! I'm trying out the dwarf emerald rasboras with cherry shrimp in my 20long.....I do have lots of albino corydoras in several tanks...they keep me supplied breeding endlessly. I love this list. I'm not sure if I can keep green tetras...but I do want the green rasboras.... LOL...love your list!
I knew you were awesome but putting glowlight tetra on your list just made you perfect in every way. 😀 Just received my first ember tetras and love them. Have Amapa Tetra on my bucket list. But I think I’m going to have green neons first. 💜
love my 10 green neon tetras in my planted 40 breeder, had them for almost 1 year, no losses and they are getting bigger than I thought (looks close to about 1.2 inches so far). Looking to get 10 more because I love the fluorescent stripe. Also have purple neon tetras that look similar to black neons but without the black and their flourescent stripe is more copper/yellow/lavender depending on how the light hits them. There are diamond tetras and ember tetras in my 40 also.
I’ve got a 29 gallon that I’m planning on keeping green neons and glowlight tetras in. I think their markings would complement each other nicely. Also would like to have a school of neon green rasboras with them.
I think, pretty much every one you mentioned is on my list of favourites, too. Lol Green neons and embers are tied for me in top place. I actually "rescued" an ember while buying a bunch of green neons that were finally in stock. Somehow, this poor little ember got missed when the rest of his school got sold, and the lady who was helping me didn't even know he was there. As he is the only ember I currently have, he swims with the neons and green neons now. Lol My black neons swim together but seperate from everybody else, and my glowlight kinda follow them around.
I have candy cane tetras in very hard water and they are huge and happy. I agree that they display cool interactions. I would also rate them as mildly shrimp safe when well-fed. They don’t seem to bother my teenage and adult cherry shrimp.
I love green neon tetras. Have a healthy little school in my 20 high jungle scaped aquarium. They live peacefully with Pygmy corydoras, shrimp and my dumbo betta Banana. They are absolutely beautiful. Look like little jewels swimming in and out of all the green plants.
I'm thinking of trying Tetra. 😊 The colour of the glowlights reminds me a bit of a mini Odessa barb. 😊 Ember Tetra are definitely at the top of my list. 😊
I wondered if you would comment on your husband's rating of the green neon fish. Your comments made me laugh out loud. I have 20 neons and LOVE to watch them swim across my 39 gallon tank. They are so beautiful. 💚💚💚
Nice list ! I too am a Black Neon fan. I prefer to keep them with either Neon or Cardinals. I find the contrast they provide when kept with those two makes all of them stand out more. Typically, I'll have maybe 1 Black to every 2 or 3 neon/cardinals. A school of 20 Cardinals, with 7 or 8 Black Neons is a wonderful sight.
I love my candy cane tetra. They are super fun fish and very pretty. I have been very lucky with neons. I keep hearing they are not as healthy as they had been in the past. I have 20 in a 29 heavily planted and they are eye catching.
I’ve had the black neons and glowlights before. I just love ‘em. I still have all 6 of the embers in my 6g office tank. I’ll be moving the. This weekend back to the home fishroom because the endlers had babies. I don’t think I ever kept green neons…
Red cherry tetra are closely related to pristella tetra and they have a very strong lateral line. They are more sensitive to noise than most. Keep your noise and footfalls down. Hold still for a bit and they will come out more. You have built a comfortable scape for them.
Candy canes are an amazing tetra. The colors make any tank pop to life. I currently keep a small school of 6 Bleeding Heart Tetras in a 14 gallon 15x15x15 frameless setup. I know that it is too small of a tank for this group. I got them to put into a 50 gallon with a single Geophagus Heckelii and a female Blue Angelfish. The Bleeding Hearts aggressive eating was too much for the Geophagus and it caused me to overfeed to compensate. I had the 14 already and decided why not put it to use. I lightly scapes it with a ceramic hide and a medium to large piece of Spiderwood with an medium sized Anubias plant attached to the wood. They seem to be ok for now.🤞🏾
💚💚💚 -- and I’ve never even had them! We have had some almost indestructible black neons and glowlight tetras (the latter even survived a year in my 9 year old niece’s first tank before coming back to live with us). We have several from our original schools which must be about 5-6 years old now (or more). I’m currently loving my rummynose school and new cardinal school - but I have soft water and they do well for me, which I know is not the case for everyone. I’d love to try the candy cane tetras some day!
💚💚💚🙌 those black neons sure are indestructible! And glowlights too are so hardy and under appreciated. You’ve got some pretty happy fish over there, I’d say!! ☺️
I have green neons, exclamation point rasboras and yellow shrimp in a 20 The neons are definitely the center piece. The rasboras hide easily in the planted tank so I’d never do them again even though they are peaceful.
Oh my - I love that combo! My greenies are hanging out with those same rasboras currently but also with pumpkin shrimp. Yellow shrimp are my favorite though! I ADORE the thought of having the yellow shrimp with the green neons!
I've had good luck with Black Neon Tetras and Serpae Tetras. I've also kept Glowlight Tetras, Neon Tetras and Beacon Tetras (AKA - Head-and-Tail Light Tetras), of which I've found Glowlights to be reasonably hardy and Beacon Tetras to be the most fragile.
@@labachaterairlandesa It depends partly on your water. Mine is hard and neutral. I suspect Head-and-Tail Light Tetras would do better in soft, acidic water.
When I have space these are on my list: green neon (of course 😉, 💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚), ember (love their color and size, black neon (I usually go for more colorful fish but love their shape and that subtle blue highlight). Have a great day!! 😊
Well if this video didn't come at a good time! I'm doing 3 20-gallon scapes (2 rescapes and 1 new) and I was thinking one would be a great tetra tank and I've been looking for a video like this. I'm a nanotank gal too :)
I am finding that Tetras do better than some other fish in my water. Great, colorful, get along fish.
And yes, I knew😉
💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚
Those red cherries are wild. What a cool fish. They're so expensive, though!
My old man pudgy black neons are tanks and just a chill tetra to have!
Well said, Wendi! Lol!
💚💚💚 Green neons are on my bucket list! Can't wait to add them with my ember tetras 💚💚💚
Yes ibwanna do the same I think would be great together
I currently have my green neon shoaling with ember tetras and gold tetras.
Honorable mention, ruby tetras are great option too
Gold tetras are also a gorgeous fish!
My absolute favorite tetra is the pristella tetra, aka the X-ray tetra. Their colors can be very stunning and I just love how well they school
Having very hard water I tend to stay away from them, learned the hard way. Have to agree with the Professor find fish that fit your water, don’t try to change your water for your fish. On a bright note I have started ordering seed for my garden/ greenhouse!😁
Agree! Hard lesson to learn but absolutely know and fit your water!

My water is hard too. What’s in your tank?

I like how they're always out in the open. They seldom hide, and their boldness seems to give other species the confidence to come out.
