Don’t sleep on sum 41. So many people talk shit about them but if you get pass their pop radio hits they actually pretty fckin good. A lot of good songs and Dave and Tom can both shred
Let's start with songs first as I tend to leave full album reactions to bands I know I will enjoy as it does take time to record and upload longer videos. Any suggestions on a first one?
They are actually a surprisingly good band. They certainly have a heavier sound on some of their albums. They nearly always perform a metal cover during their shows. Its a shame they are only known as a pop punk band because they are more than that. In one of their biggest hits 'Fat Lip' there's actually a lyric that goes 'Maiden and Priest were the gods that we praised'
Gotta respect these guys for pretty much being the only 2000s mainstream band to not sellout out the pop sound to make a quick buck in the 2010s. Last 3 albums have leaned about as far away from 'pop' as they could.
Now now, don't be so hard on Lars he's no longer is allowed to get the powder that makes him go^^ However what this lacked was as expected the voice, not many vocalist could probably get that raw power from the voice as James can get. And this singer at times felt downed out from the sound of the instruments.
Definitely need to look at it differently because of the voice. At least it still sounded good in the end. For most people that powder ruins there lives, but it works the opposite on Lars lol.
They actually play in MTV icon Metallica 2003 , they open the show with bell tolls , enter sandman and second master of puppet's solo , and they have a good tribute to metallica called The Bitter End (mix of battery and through the never), good band , a versatile band
I was about 14 when they release fat lip and I've gotta say it ain't weird cuz they use the lyric in fat lip song " maiden and priest are the gods we praise " but still I get ya
You need to listen to their recent Metallica Medley on youtube where they play FWTBT, Enter Sandman and finish with MoP. It is actually really fucking good! They kill it

Pain For Pleasure
Sum 41 has quite a few hardcore songs
Don't fault people who have different octaves and singing styles. Covers should be either a faithful reproduction or your own take.
Apocalyptica - One (Metallica cover)

Sum 41 just released a new song with a killer solo on it and the song itself is pretty good. Definitely worth checking out!
It's funny, most of the guys in Sum 41 probably grew up with the same posters on their walls as you.
Listen to "Screaming Bloody Murder" and "13 voices" those albums are TIGHT!!
I hear almost no difference between Deryck and Hetfield
