That not the audience bro. I doubt you will find any average person who gives a damn about arm pit hair. That is some garbage from feminist or some stupid butt hurt activist group.
I'm glad this film is being well-received. But I fear it will be remembered for the wrong reasons. That is to say, people will remember it being successful expressly because it featured a superheroine and was directed by a woman, rather than because it was competently made and that a woman directing it was just business.
Without actually seeing it, it's hard to know for sure whether it got those scores because it's a legitimately good movie, or the reviewers just agree with the political message surrounding the movie and gave it a few bonus points.
I felt the same about Deadpool. I was not a fan of that character by any stretch of the imagination, but I fucking loved that movie for rebelling against a tired and bloated franchise and making light of how intensely over dramatic super hero films are. But that's not what worried me. What worried me was that this would give Hollywood an excuse to make edgy as hell r rated superhero movies for the next five years
To be fair, that's got to be a vocal few. I would like to know who had issue with it, because there are different feminist ideologies, where the emphasis lies in different issues. Lots of feminists don't care, because armpit hair is not an issue, when you face hiring discrimination and income inequality. I consider myself a feminist, but armpit hair is a choice, just as a beard for a man is a choice. It could be an issue for both, if the requirement is to be clean shaven for ma job, but even then, if that's the worst issue on a job, it's not all that important.
If that's the case you're not a feminist, you're an egalitarian (see UA-cam channel "The Prim Reaper"). Modern (radical and postmodern) feminism doesn't make sense, when anything and everything (including liberal feminism) is patriarchy how can you possibly hope to win against it (without destroying the very fiber of society itself)? If you want to see how that plays out, go watch those men vs. women survivor episodes. Identity politics lead to extremism, and when SJWs use the same authoritarian tactics as FOX New and the Alt-Right, you know that the internal course correction mechanisms in the movement aren't working (if there ever was one).
Yeah, that is a weird case. I mean, if that counts as a DC movie, does The Lego Movie count as a DC movie? ...Or The Lego Ninjago Movie? I think I heard something about a Benny the Spaceman Movie, but I'm not sure.
Lugbzurg Lego Movie doesn't count but given the amount of DC characters in Lego Batman, I mean hell fucking Kite Man is in Lego Batman. I'd say Lego Batman counts
the critics love it because it's a chick. Everything is judged by gender issues now. If it wasn't a Jewish chick they would hate it. If Iron fist had an Eskimo Danny Rand they would have loved that too.
I feel like the fact that Gal Gadot is Israeli and served in the Israeli armed forces would rub the SJWs the wrong way. The loony leftists are all on the bandwagon that Israel is unrightfully occupying Palestine. Although I think you’re onto something with the whole female lead character automatically leading to critical praise. Look at Black Panther and you’ll see the extra SJW points it gained despite being just the same old superhero film as all the rest.
+Deusirae79 Actually, Killbo isn't. While I can see where it comes from, you really do get better reviews with X minority or X sex in a work. It's almost become a strategy for cynical film producers to put a specially-tailored character in a movie to gain brownie points, when in reality they don't give a shit about diversity, and just want the money.
America is the most socially devolved country in the world, I swear. Wonder Woman represents gender equality, sure. Meanwhile, over in Japan, they've had empowered females in media since forever, and no one ever made a big deal of it. The key isn't to shout and say 'Look, look! Here's a role model for you all to look up to!' Rather, it's to simply craft interesting and relatable characters, with their gender being decided by whatever feels the most natural. This country needs to learn to treat gender as a non-factor.
Tons of empowered females in film, comics and books in the US. I would also disagree with that about Japan, they sexualize cartoon teen girls. Most anime are about teen girls, uncensored versions have a lot of drawn nudity and awkward sexual situations. You are talking about a country where they get in groups and cum on women or sniff feet and vaginas on game shows. A country were a majority of women do not have career opportunities and are still subservient to their husbands.
It was a fantastic movie. Not quite up there with GoTG, Cap America Civil War or the Avengers. But deffo up there with some of the better MCU movies. Gal Gadot was fantastic and Chris Pine actually did a good job too. Hopefully this is where the DCEU movies start to rise.
I found the casting alone to be quite entertaining. Chris Pine is no Jim Kirk but he's well suited to this role. Such interesting people who really stepped up. As a Marvel fanboy, I've been skeptical of DC because they tend to go dark simply for the sake of going dark. This movie was dark but mostly because of World War I. It was a surprisingly bright story. We in the theater stayed in our seats until after the credits were over, until the movie was good and done, having been trained by Marvel to expect an after-credit scene. This was no Marvel movie and almost made films like Thor and even Captain America seem trivial. Wonderful movie!
I recall several ppl saying their sources stated that *WW was a discombobulated mess, disjointed and disappointed* It's real ironic how that turned out
It was typical WB reverse marketing. They follow the trend of poor DC films then when the movie is release all the critics say "WOW, it was soooo much better than the leak reports say it was! WOW!" See how you've been manipulated??
I think those were early cuts, might have even been specifically put out to get feedback. An example of such things is Zootopia, early drafts that were even turned into digitally produced scenes almost were completely scrapped, it was a depressing dystopia with Nick as the lead. Could just be with WW's early screenings the edit didn't flow too well as a narrative or something, which even some good movies have trouble with. Editing dialogue and actions can be disjointed if everything on the set isn't handled by perfectionists. Having just seen Pirates 5 myself, their handling of dialogue and camera is kind of shit, every line that changes character also switches the camera, actually started to make me dizzy at points going back and forth so much and so quickly. though one scene in particular does it on purpose as a joke so that worked. Were I to give feedback on that kind of thing I'd say reshoot that dialogue and avoid the jumpcuts as much as possible, easily doable I'd think within a few weeks. With action scenes, I suppose they need a little more leadtime to prepare the studio set to reshoot that kind of thing, if that's what needs fixing. But I think they also shoot lots of extra film to begin with to pick from too.
Please don't take this the wrong way, but when I saw the reception the movie got, I was skeptical, and I still am. I don't want to believe that the only reason this movie got the reception it did was because it was a female-led comic book movie. Seeing as how last year's Ghostbusters reboot turned out getting solid reviews for a movie that audiences hated, I got worried that we're just going to let female-led stuff pass without much of a hitch, and if we do criticize it, we're accused of being sexist, etc. Now, I am seeing Wonder Woman pretty soon, and I'll be happy to embrace an actual good DCEU movie after the bullshit that was Man of Steel and BvS. Don't disappoint me, WW.
So, is this movie really fresh, or is it like Ghostbusters 2016 where the fresh reviews were more about politics and feminism than the actual quality? Not saying it isn't good, just that I'd like to know before spending money on opening day.
Corporate Commander Corporate Commander midnights edge have had a very anti feminist agenda going on for some time now. They mention very unnecessary or non news worth stories that often make all feminist seem crazy. Also how can you tell men haven't gone to watch the movie? Is there some magical document that shows you the exact numbers or are you so immature that you think a man wouldn't watch this film. Most film critics are men and that does have a statistic so I don't see how they were left out of the review
+vincent207 When it comes to Rotten Tomatoes, Ghostbusters got a 6.5/10 rating which translates to somewhat above average, while Wonder woman got a 7.6/10 which isn't all that great either. With such ratings I don't think they were strongly pushed by critics.
Have to go and see it for yourself. Ive heard it is more like Thor or Cat America : the First Avenger. A solid film, with some heart , that will cater to the females ... kind of an Indiana jones type deal, and that different storyline is more an adventure yarn - it only lacks a compelling villain , but all accounts are good thus far.
I have little personal investment in comic book movies outside of keeping up with them to stay relevant with my nephews, but this channel is one I follow very closely, and may be my favorite element of the DC/Marvel cinematic universes.
The amazingly positive reception amongst fans and critics just proved one thing: the "movie reviewers are Marvel shills" conspiracy theory is and always has been bullshit. Why did people even claim so? It's as if they forgot that Nolan's Batman trilogy is still regarded as the peak of superhero movies by critics. It is evident that the direction by Zack Snyder and David S. Goyer was the issue. DC fanboys are ridiculous. I am so glad I love both Marvel and DC (and others like Dark Horse or Valiant).
Has it never occurred to you that adults that obsess about flying men in pj's might be just a little bit childish? Most fanboys whether they are DC, Marvel or indi have arrested development.
This video is rather weak. You folks are usually of much better quality than this. A lot of the stuff mentioned here are frivolous, irrelevant matters. Faux outrage.
GhustBoasters flopped, while Wonder Woman soared. Hopefully, this'll lead Hollywood's direction in making respectable "girl power" films; The kinds both men and women will love to see, rather than going out of your way to viciously attack 50% of the human population.
The reviews for Ghostbusters 2016 were so inflated with political agenda that I really wouldn't trust the fresh rating. So many people were just giving it their highest rating because of their politics, not because it was a genuinely good movie.
TimeFreak Word of mouth wasn't anywhere as good and if I recall correctly the fresh rating was never in 90s. Might be wrong about that but like all things critical thinking has to be applied. Fresh Rating high+ good word of mouth + most geek independent reporters giving high praise= a generally good film
What am saying is people shouldn't look at RT for their fresh rating when it can be manipulated so easy and they have the power to say what's fresh or isn't because I remember 73 is not considered fresh. it's 80 and up I think. People relaying on word of mouth and geek talk am all for because that mostly come from people that mostly don't or can't play around with RT ratings. I never said WW is bad, I just won't look at RT fresh rating like it means something anymore.
Continually citing RT with some sort of reverence is something that should widely be seen by now as a complete and total fallacy. The fact that something like Ghostbusters 2016 is considered "fresh" where say, Man of Steel is "rotten", is indicative to the flaws of RT. I had my concerns with Wonder Woman following the clusterfuck that was Ghostbusters, and how blatant the critics completely bent over for it, but was pleasantly surprised just how good it actually was. It balanced the act of being serious, yet had many moments of levity as well. I could actually take the film seriously without a abundance of humor/jokes being thrown around during battles and such, and it was truly, a treat to experience. Wonder Woman easily tops alot of the overtly Disney family friendly fare the MCU has been consistently releasing. Similar to the Nolan films, it felt like a actual film relying on it's own merits, than about shared universe gimmicks. Which was put at a absolute minimum with Wonder Woman. The comparison between what Paul Feig shat out and what Patty gave us isn't comparable at all. One was shamelessly pushing an agenda, and the other was finally giving the most well known female superhero a truly worthwhile film, which has been long overdue. I almost feel sorry for the MCU's Spider-Man Homecoming, and it's unfortunate gimmick of over-promoting RDJ's Iron Man. Almost.
DCEU may be getting back on track, Wonder Woman is a nomination for my favorite comic book character ever. I loved her in _Justice League: Unlimited_ , and the 2009 animated movie, so I hope this new one gives her as much depth, personality, and interest as the past animated products have. I think it's better the original plans were scrapped and they are going in a different direction. I still really send my best wishes and sincerest condolences to Zack Snyder and his family. May they always keep Autumn in their hearts.
Why wouldn't we? There is no corporate overlords here telling us what we can and cannot do. We go where the story dictates, no matter where that may be.
This basically confirms to me that Zack Snyder is pure poison to the current DCEU. It took a director who's not under his thumb to make a decent superhero movie for WB. I still have no plans of seeing it because I really am not impressed with Gal Gadot at all. But it's about goddamn time DC had a good movie. Hopefully Batman gets made and has similarly positive success and reception. Otherwise WW is going to get leaned on to hold up the team at the box office.
Yea and it took two superman appearances, two batman appearances and a Will Smith vehicle to do it. A recovering drug addict in a tin suit did more than that in two movies over at marvel. WW is the first successful, post nolan, superhero at DC to make a good movie that isn't likely to have a nose dive second weekend drop off. In my book, she the real MVP. She is DC's Iron Man right now. Until everyone else gets on their feet she is the bread winner and ray of hope in this universe
Just got in from watching this and it was actually quite awesome. I went in with no expectations and was pleasantly surprised. It did have its flaws, mainly being a little to similar to Captain America:The First Avenger and there was some rather bad cgi in some places but overall, very enjoyable. Gal Gadot was brilliantly cast, an absolute badass, and her and Chris Pine played off against each other really well. Well done DC, I'm actually looking forward to aquaman now.
Well, Captain America felt more polished and you could tell the story fit into a much higher narrative whereas WW was a good stand-alone but there wasn't much hinting to other things within the DC cinematic universe (apart from Wayne enterprise). Then again, I don't particularly read DC Comics (I'm a Marvel person) so I could've missed out on those easily. That said, the DCCU is a bit of mess whereas CA:TFA came after several MCU films so there was already much they could include. Also, the reference to CA was made solely on the plot.... *spoiler alert* Steve dying at the end by sacrificing himself, in plane no less. Mad German scientist, WW1 ( I know CA is WW2 but still, very similar) setting and the unlikely band of brothers. I think the screenwriter was extremely inspired.
Fans were kept of out screenings. The trailers look god awful. The movie has the same grimdark joyless, colorless cinematography as Man of Steel. I don't think the fan reaction is going to be as good as the critical reception. The critics knuckle under *ANY* political pressure. Remember how they all gave GhostBusters: Answer the Call glowing reviews?
Correction: Joss Whedon isn't "retrofitting" or drastically altering Justice League; he's simply shepherding the film through postproduction and filming pickup shots on behalf/at the behest of Zack Snyder. Zack outlined the scenes that will be shot and Joss assisted Zack in cowriting these scenes with him- but it's very much a Zack Snyder production.
I dabble a bit in colour grading, and I think the arm pit thing was accidentally created by an editing plugin that's supposed to auto key the natural warmth of skin colour and then add a smooth effect to make the talent look fresh and young. If you look around her eyes and forehead she has no crow's feet or wrinkles, which is what you'd expect with a strained expression like that, which indicates to me the use of this filter. If used incorrectly the filter can make certain skin areas, like stubble, yellow hair or arm pits, look smeared together or like plastic. This can be further aggravated with a "Teal and Blue" filter that's so trendy now a days but may cause those areas to stand out even more since the mid tones are warmed up and the blacks are crushed and cooled down, intended to make the skin pop out from the back ground but instead makes armpits stick out like a sore thumb. Since you'd have to look for it frame by frame, it's possible that it slipped through post.
Not so high, that was in the 70s something. And WW will be a box office success. GB was doomed from the start. Nice try but... putting WW on the same level of pre-release hatred, production mess and massive reject as GB is quite retarded actually.
Not exactly sure how a 7.6 out of 10 average is supposed to equal 93% fresh score, unless we are using common core math, saw the trailers at the theater was not all that hyped to go see it. The fact that the critics love it does not bode well.
I wish Warner Brothers would just pull the plug and put the DCEU out of its misery. They've already ruined Batman, Superman, Aquaman, they made The Flash look like a druggy and Cyborg looks like a transformer fucked a giant ball of crumpled till foil. Even if their version of Wonder Woman is good the DCEU is still fucked.
The "new management" can't undo what the already established canon. They can't undo the gun toting middle aged Batfleck. They can't retroactively make Aquaman *not* look like a rejected tryhard 300 character. They can't retroactively change Emo Superman having killed in his origin story. It's too late for *ANYONE* to make the DCEU good.
Just watched the movie tonight and it was fantastic, finally WB and DC got it right. They even did a good job at mixing how Diana came to be with her old clay baby and the new 52 of her being a god. Great job and it does bring me some hope for DC films in the future.
What are your thoughts on Hollywood blaming Rotten Tomatoes for its movies not doing as well as of recently (like with Pirates 5 opening a bit lower than expected)?
Well I'd say it's bullshit of them to do that considering all the other Pirates films have rotten ratings (except the first one) and were big box office successes. Then there's the Transformers, which all have rotten ratings, but each film keeps making more money than the last.
I think there is SOME merit to blaming Rotten Tomatoes. Yeah, it just collects movie reviews, but it gives people who aren't like professional movie critics and are actually just loud mouths online more credibility than they deserve. If they weeded out those and focused on the professional ones, then I think we'd get a more honest percentage for movies.
RT is partly owned by Warner Bros. It is an aggregate score of critics, but at some point DC has to just start letting directors move in their vision .. 3 directors departed on creative differences, so it tells you the less they meddle, the better their future films will be.
Glad for the DC fans that they finally have a movie they can be proud of but personally I'm done with the DCEU. The last DC based film I can honestly say I really enjoyed was Batman Returns in 1992! 25 years ago! I didn't enjoy Nolan's realistic take on the Batman mythos and I just Cant stand the snyderverse.
To the credit of WB, none of the marketing "controversies" are in any way their fault. And in contrast to Ghostbusters, they wisely didn't stress the feminist angle too much. Pandering to that crowd would probably have caused even more BS outrage on all sides.
A storm in a glass of water. Yet a lot of people here are butthurt that the film is well received and try to bring it down by trying to make such stupid stuff relevant.
I recently watched Wonder Woman and this was the first time in a long time I can say I watched something amazing. Wonder Woman harkens back to the original Superman movie that inspired everyone to believe a man could fly.
The method of using multiple writers working independently can be a great method, when done right. The point is to develop the best ideas, all of which not necessarily from the same one source without suffering from groupthink. This does require strong leadership, though, to ensure a cohesive vision and that different writers are not too attached to their own ideas.
WB: We did it, we finally made a capeshit movie that wasn't a total fucking disaster!Sony: ...we got the emoji movie coming out guys...emoji cinematic universe?....guys?
I just watched this today... When making this video, you couldn't have imagined the difference in reception and marketing of Wonder Woman compared to that of Captain Marvel. I see the "controversies" outlined in this piece and I chuckled. It was like Marvel-Disney said, "Hold my beer."
It's cool that this movie might be the first decent DCEU film but, I'm pretty disappointed learning that we could have had Lucy Lawless as Wonder Woman and Warner didn't go anywhere with that.
At the very least, WB is using positivity to sell this movie unlike Ghostbuster that was shaming people to support it. They kept the politics out of the marketing and I am so glad for that. This movie is getting some great reviews and I can't wait to see it. The Aquaman movie is directed by James Wan who, IMO, is one of the better directors working in Hollywood. I actually liked MoS and BvS, but I do see the flaws those movies hold. I hope and think WB and Snyder recognize their own faults and worked to fix them. Though I think Snyder should step down from further DC movies as media and public perception is against him. After Aquaman, everything is in the air when it comes to the DCEU. There are several projects I have faith in (Nightwing and Batgirl namely). If WB can snag a good director (Matthew Vaughn expressed interest) in a MoS followup, I think it could be great. The Flash is a mess, so who knows where that will go, the Shazam/Black Adam movie seems to be going nowhere, and Suicide Squad 2 without Harley Quinn would be a hard sell.
The real question in my mind is whether or not WW will be the "turning point" for the DCEU, or if it will be the "only good" film in this current series. I'm leaning towards WW being an anomaly...a tiny gold nugget in a pile of trash.
Wasn't really grabbed by the JL movie, but thought I'd give it a go, UNTIL I saw Batman save Wonder Woman's ass. She is a centuries old warrior trained for fucking decades, and the second she needs a moment to spring into action, Batman just happens to be there. It is the shot where she is sprawled on the catwalk, and the mook is about to swing down at her, which due to her training and her strength would NOT be a problem.
Regardless on what side you're on (personally I'm a MCU fan) the success of Wonder Women is good for a lot of reasons, it shows that female lead superhero film CAN work (proving Ike Perlmutter wrong and possibility making him cry), there is hope for the DCEU and it keeps people's interest in comic book movies. Despite this, do I think the DCEU is "Saved".... honestly no.... not yet anyway While Wonder Woman is single handedly holding up the DCEU but she hasn't "fixed" it, that would be up to Justice League to achieve but there is still a great chance that film could flop critically and underperform so the DCEU is not out of the danger zone yet. I also hope WB doesn't get too reactionary with this success and try put Wonder Women in everything to cash in on her popularity, similar to Harley Quinn from Suicide Squad (the announcement of Gotham City Sirens) or trying to put Batman in everything they ever make regarding DC.
I personally liked Man Of Steel and Batman V Superman, but I can see why some don't like it. I saw Wonder Woman last night and it was great! Gal Gadot and Chris Pine had great chemistry. The special effects were awesome as well. I think the positive buzz from this will carry over to Justice League and WB/DC will have righted the ship.
What if...? What if instead of Steve Rogers getting the serum, Peggy Carter got it instead? Turns out Steve Trevor demonstrates more heroism than Carter can manage.
I think Marvel and DC are dropping the ball when it comes to there villains. With respect to Wonder Woman, although the mythology set up in the intro was compelling, Aries himself was a cookie cutter bad guy, wholly unoriginal and unmemorable. Spin-off filmls of compelling and interesting villains could be a windfall if the studios ever stop shitting the bed on this issue.
Ok guys, as a big MCU fan who has hated the past three films, PLEASE SEE THIS FILM! THEY GOT IT RIGHT! THE EDITING, PACING, ACTING, STORY, CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT, IT MAKES FOR A GREAT FILM IN GENERAL! AWESOME!
Proof that man of steel and BvS were as terrible as critics thought they were. No payd detractors, no paid critics. Some films are objectively bad and some objectively great.
I went to see the movie and I must recommend everyone to go see it! despite early slight pacing issues and underdeveloped romance, I give the film an A-
Good to hear that WW is shaping up to be at least mildly successful, though I'm still maintaining the cautious optimism that I had from hearing about the resolved issues. Some of the nonsensical controversy aside, I do want to see this movie succeed fiscally, critically, and (hopefully) socially. I know that there's some people on here who might get their hackles raised at hearing "feminism", but I do subscribe to a mix of first and second wave feminism (more so the former). I don't really care about the movie being directed by a woman, rather, I want one of the dozen celebrated female icons in American pop culture, who serves as a role model to women and who is supposed to exemplify equality between men and women, to have a successful movie launch (btw, I'm hardly left-leaning; I'm a libertarian/constitutionalist). Again, please do not take this as me being an SJW or snowflake or third wave femi-fascist. I just really like what Wonder Woman symbolizes: I like it when there is a strong female lead that is strong due to it being part of her character, motives, and integrity that has nothing to do with her gender or sex; she just gets the job done because it's right/required. In other words, I want to see a hero kick some ass and save the day for reasons I can relate to or feel inspired by , regardless of their sex.
Yeah, and the Ghostbusters remake was also rated as fresh. At this point, RT scores are so utterly useless that bringing them up is akin to saying a toothpaste is recommended by four out of five dentists. They're a marketing tool... as seen by the Ghostbusters remake listing it on the physical release as a certified fresh film.
GB was much lower on that "fresh" thing and WW didn't get hate from the second it was announced. WW will be a box office success so just shut up and enjoy.
Can we talk about the many of the so called "critics" that were trash talking Zack Snyder while hyping up this movie until the official announcement of him leaving JL?
I go to the cinema to see films that entertain and that I can enjoy. They don't have to explore profound themes or subjects and have deep character development. I don't go to movies specifically for those reasons. Too much philosophical pondering can hinder or bog a movie down just as much as little to no character development. Also, I don't need a film to spell everything out for me. I don't need to be led by hand by the director and script writers or be bashed over the head with issues. I love good, honest popcorn entertainment. I have enjoyed movies from the both Marvel and DCEU properties for that reason. Whether it has been Iron Man or Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. I enjoy them for their differences just as much, if not more, for their similarities. I think it was interesting to read a few comments from below where it has been recognised that there has been hits and misses in terms of live-action films produced covering properties from both Marvel and DC Comics. Don't forget these things run in cycles. Marvel films are hits right now and the DCEU films are floundering, but there will be a time when it will be the other way round. As fans we need to get behind both Marvel and DCEU and encourage them to make good films. True fans show their support whether times are good or rough. I never have high expectations for any movie I go to see. I just take what comes and enjoy the film for what it is. If I enjoy a film great, but if I don't it's not all gloom. Having said that, I think Wonder Woman is the film the DCEU needed - a real shot in the arm that will boost morale and encourage Warner Bros and DC. Does its positive reception change anybody's perception of Justice League or not? Are there any other films coming out over the remainder of this year that anybody is looking forward to?
Ghostbusters also was certified "Fresh" on RT, though not by as much as this movie. However, it ended up being a flop. Critics liking the movie doesn't mean that the general public will. We'll see.
Just a little FYI, Every able-bodied, mentally competent adult citizen of Israel is required by law to serve in the armed forces. She's not special for this, every citizen who's not disqualified from service has done so. That's part of why Israel's military is so strong... the entire adult population are reserve forces. Nothing against her, but that bit about her serving for 2 years isn't anything more special than every other adult in the country. Hoping to see the movie soon though, and very glad to hear it turned out better than was originally expected ^ _ ^
It's alright. About the same level as the first Captain America movie, except whereas that film was consistently okay this one is very uneven. Feels and looks very cheap in places, but there are a few great moments. Wish they had dropped the silly theme music, and if you take a drink every time the action ramps up or down with 300-esque Zack Snyder slow motion, you'll die of alchohol poisoning before the movie ends :D
p.s. Ironically, Chris Pine is what holds the movie together. Replace him with someone else with no charisma or talent and the entire movie would collapse in on itself.
There are sure people parading and saying "SEE SEE THIS PROVES THAT ARTICLE WAS FROM MARVEL FANBOYS" in response to a film that got *reshoots* and *alot of edits*. Not to mention the article was from at least half a year ago.
The Green Lantern Corps (2020) should be as gritty and realistic as the WWI segment of WW. That's what was missing in the 2011 film; a sense of 'being in the trenches with the troops'.
In truth, I had bad expectations seeing Zach Snyder was part of the writing team. I will see it, and I have no love of the DCEU, nor really the MCU. I just want to see my hero. Will I see Justice League? Not a chance, but I will see this.
I'm still not satisfied with their decision to cast Gal Gedot (she simply doesn't look the part), and Alamo Drafthouse is being dumb yet again, but I'm still glad this movie is seeing success. I think we can expect Wonder Woman to become this franchise's Iron Man or Captain America.
So, this is a very character-driven film, different from Batman v. Superman and Suicide Squad, where they tried to fit in as many references and characters as possible without properly introducing them. Maybe this will be a turn around for the DC Cinematic U... ...Or, most likely, Justice League will continue the old trend of trying to squeeze as much into one movie. I mean, I hope I'm wrong, but that just seems to be the DC way for now. Hoping this movie can lead to a positive change.
Let's Talk Horror that is what made it so unfunny, its an example that the rotten tomatoes meter can sometimes get it wrong. IMO, very wrong. The little comedy in the original still did it much, much better.
"It's the first female led super hero movie!"
"It's breaking records for female led super hero movies!"
Well. I'm sold.
Can't tell if sarcasm.
I can tell.
Update: I just saw the movie and actually enjoyed it quite a bit. If you're interested, don't let the fun police ruin it for you.
"Outrage over armpits". This says everything about modern audiences.
To be fair, that's a really shitty photo edit.
Phourc I was hoping they would show the before and after
That was the dumbest thing I've heard to be outraged about....
Vincenzo Beretta hate to admit it, but yes it does.
That not the audience bro. I doubt you will find any average person who gives a damn about arm pit hair. That is some garbage from feminist or some stupid butt hurt activist group.
I do not say this lightly: This truly is one of the best movie related channels ever. It covers a perspective that no other channel I've seen offers.
Nineteen1900Hundred Thanks for the kind words!
I'm glad this film is being well-received. But I fear it will be remembered for the wrong reasons. The lesson i learn from Wonder Woman marketing is... HIRE THE DEADPOOL PEOPLE.
Yup... manbabies crying digital tears and girl power will be the mammaries, I mean memories
The fact that feminists felt the need to complain about arm pit hair really shows that they have nothing legitimate to complain about
To be fair, that's got to be a vocal few.
"First DC movie since 2012 Dark Knight Rises to be fresh on RT"
LEGO BATMAN?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!!
Nicholas Levi Doesn't count yo.
Yeah, that's kind of a gray area. Is it a DC movie, or is it a Lego movie?
It's an animated feature. If we want to split hairs, the DC animation features have been pretty solid aside from oddballs like The Killing Joke.
the critics love it because it's a chick. Everything is judged by gender issues now. If it wasn't a Jewish chick they would hate it. If Iron fist had an Eskimo Danny Rand they would have loved that too.
And you're a moron for thinking this.
That type of thing is 90 percent marketing bullshit, they think get a few dollars off trend following idoits.
(Personally) I have never found a lack of good female heroes / protagonists. It's the lack of good stories that's the real problem.
Lol Japan as an example of gender equality
Alundaio There is a higher percentage of working women in Japan than America. And anime is NOT representative of Japanese culture or mores.
Wonder woman has higher reviews and percentage score than guardians of the galaxy, avengers and civil war.
I recall several ppl saying their sources stated that *WW was a discombobulated mess, disjointed and disappointed*
It's real ironic how that turned out
Star Wars :Rouge One I thought they said to take it with a grain of salt, but I don't remember
Star Wars :Rouge One Adressed in the video;p
It was typical WB reverse marketing. They follow the trend of poor DC films then when the movie is release all the critics say "WOW, it was soooo much better than the leak reports say it was! WOW!" See how you've been manipulated??
Star Wars :Rouge One They said it was a mess but salvageable. Go back and watch the video, smh...get what they said right or don't quote them.
9:11 So if the " BLACK PANTHER " movie comes out. Is ALAMO CINEMA going to have " BLACK ONLY SCREENING " !?!?
Hub Pie I think this is different. A lot of people like it even on UA-cam.
Not to mention journalists weren't going out parading Wonder Woman as "the 2nd coming" like they did with Ghostbusters.
Fair point, but you don't blame me for being skeptical, do you?
Hub Pie No
I mean Ghost in the Shell got blasted and that is a female lead comic book (manga in this case) based movie, isn't it?
So, is this movie really fresh, or is it like Ghostbusters 2016 where the fresh reviews were more about politics and feminism than the actual quality? Not saying it isn't good, just that I'd like to know before spending money on opening day.
Corporate Commander one. One female only screening. There's no agenda you paranoid neck beards. A good god damn movie is just good god damn movie
Regressives don't like Gadot because she is a zionist jew.
+vincent207
When it comes to Rotten Tomatoes, Ghostbusters got a 6.5/10 rating which translates to somewhat above average, while Wonder woman got a 7.6/10 which isn't all that great either.
I have little personal investment in comic book movies outside of keeping up with them to stay relevant with my nephews, but this channel is one I follow very closely, and may be my favorite element of the DC/Marvel cinematic universes.
so in conclusion less zack snyder means a good movie?
Zack Snyder came up with WW's story.
wasnt he just executive producer or is he credited as writer of the storyboard of the film, becuase i think there were more than one writer
He came up with the film's story with Allan Heinberg and was one of the film's main producers.
Snyder also cast Gal Gadot himself.
Fer Zum when the credits roll you will see in big bold letters "Story by Zack Snyder".
I don't trust any movie reviewer after Ghostbusters was at 47% and was certified fresh.
More Wonder Woman and less Batman?
I'm down for that.
I hope am not the only one that remember that Ghostbusters 2016 was also rated fresh....
Jeff R 73 percent is nothing compared to 93. I think it's safe to say Wonder Woman is good
It was still called fresh and am amazed anyone still believe them with how that went down, call me paranoid but I think it people should be.
I didn't think you would have the balls to talk about the lead's opinion and experience with zionism, good for you
Why wouldn't we? There is no corporate overlords here telling us what we can and cannot do. We go where the story dictates, no matter where that may be.
This basically confirms to me that Zack Snyder is pure poison to the current DCEU. It took a director who's not under his thumb to make a decent superhero movie for WB. I still have no plans of seeing it because I really am not impressed with Gal Gadot at all. But it's about goddamn time DC had a good movie. Hopefully Batman gets made and has similarly positive success and reception. Otherwise WW is going to get leaned on to hold up the team at the box office.
Wade Trillson Suicide Squad didn't have Zack Synder and look what happened.
Wade Trillson "hold up the team at the box office"??? MoS, BvS & SS made 2.3 BILLION dollars, that's billion with a B.
A happy ending to the rumors, for once!
great video
Just got in from watching this and it was actually quite awesome. I went in with no expectations and was pleasantly surprised.
It did have its flaws, mainly being a little to similar to Captain America:The First Avenger and there was some rather bad cgi in some places but overall, very enjoyable. Gal Gadot was brilliantly cast, an absolute badass, and her and Chris Pine played off against each other really well.
Well done DC, I'm actually looking forward to aquaman now.
LJ Parry Careful with being too positive about WW, there's alot of Marvel window lickers in here.
how would you say it compares to said Captain America film in terms of quality?
Well, Captain America felt more polished and you could tell the story fit into a much higher narrative whereas WW was a good stand-alone but there wasn't much hinting to other things within the DC cinematic universe (apart from Wayne enterprise). Then again, I don't particularly read DC Comics (I'm a Marvel person) so I could've missed out on those easily.
That said, the DCCU is a bit of mess whereas CA:TFA came after several MCU films so there was already much they could include.
Also, the reference to CA was made solely on the plot....
*spoiler alert*
Steve dying at the end by sacrificing himself, in plane no less. Mad German scientist, WW1 ( I know CA is WW2 but still, very similar) setting and the unlikely band of brothers. I think the screenwriter was extremely inspired.
Let them get on with it. I'm a Marvel person myself but even DC managed to create a female led superhero film, so credit where credit's due.
I don't see any of them here.
Kepp telling yourself such bullshit and believing it. It'll only make you even more pathetic.
Why actually make a counter argument what you can just post vague insult. Fuck off dumbass.
Interesting, thanks a lot for your input!
Didn't Ghostbusters get a high fresh rating?
Shadow Hound but those were fake and it barley got a 70% where as Wonder Woman has a 92% with critics.
Not so high, that was in the 70s something. And WW will be a box office success. GB was doomed from the start. Nice try but... putting WW on the same level of pre-release hatred, production mess and massive reject as GB is quite retarded actually.
I wouldn't call 70 something percent high.
Not near the 93% fresh score Wonder Woman currently has.
Not exactly sure how a 7.6 out of 10 average is supposed to equal 93% fresh score, unless we are using common core math, saw the trailers at the theater was not all that hyped to go see it. The fact that the critics love it does not bode well.
See what happens when you don't let Hack Snyder make comic book movies.
Its funny because the truth is women love controlling other women's bodies.Fashion is lost upon men.
wooo weee it is in me to be sure but if I'm. It mistaken the biggest names in fashion design are usually men
"Men." Mmmmmmm.....
......
O'l
Wondey.....
is Carrying
the
DCEU
on
her
Back!
Keep dreaming.
Lets give the new management a chance, they could make fun movies.
The "new management" can't undo what the already established canon. They can't undo the gun toting middle aged Batfleck. They can't retroactively make Aquaman *not* look like a rejected tryhard 300 character. They can't retroactively change Emo Superman having killed in his origin story. It's too late for *ANYONE* to make the DCEU good.
i mean if those things annoy you so much i get y,a, but for me ill just think of it as and Elseworlds.
@ Jim Dot Beepil - Then ventilate your frustration in silence, let people enjoy it and shut the fuck up.
Olga Kurlenko was my choice for Wonder Woman and she would've gotten the part had she not been soo old
So tired of all the "outrage" over every little thing. Honorary UN ambassador, armpits...just f-ing stop it.
They're clinging on shit, so desperate to have anything NEGATIVE to say about that movie.
Yes critics liked it now i have permission to enjoy it yayayayyayayayayay.
Simple: Make better movies.
Wake me when a 10% RT Transformers earns less than a billion dollars...
Was this the first DCEU movie to be supervised under the watchful eye of Geoff Johns?
Not from day one - but he was there to oversee the reshoots.
Can't wait to see this film over the weekend.
Totally expected this to Bomb. I'm so happy I'm wrong. Hopefully this is the start for DC's fresh success.
Wonder Woman is the first good female led superhero movie.
I'm genuinly happy that Wonder Woman is a critical hit. I do hope it's not only a financial hit also but a hit with the audiences as well.
They really, really, really needed this to be a hit to turn the ship around. I didn't think they'd do it, but they did.
To the credit of WB, none of the marketing "controversies" are in any way their fault. And in contrast to Ghostbusters, they wisely didn't stress the feminist angle too much. Pandering to that crowd would probably have caused even more BS outrage on all sides.
Gotta say this video is pretty weak compared to other Midnight Edge vids.
A storm in a glass of water. Yet a lot of people here are butthurt that the film is well received and try to bring it down by trying to make such stupid stuff relevant.
It is kind of a recap video with some new content
Wait a moment. People actually protested a studio removing armpit hair!? The fuck!?
nunouno001 Welcome to 2017 a shitty year God I miss the 2000s.
This does require strong leadership, though, to ensure a cohesive vision and that different writers are not too attached to their own ideas.
you know what? i hope its good. for once i want to be proven wrong. i just want a single good live action DC CU movie.
One single theatre puts up a film for one women only screening and the neckbeard part of our world looses it's damn mind
I just saw it and it is awesome! Flawless
I can't wait to see Captain Underpants.
I've got a sneaking suspicion that Wonder Woman is getting great reviews from the critics for the same reason Girlbusters did.
Nope, far from it. It's deluded to think so.
Despite this, do I think the DCEU is "Saved".... honestly no.... not yet anyway
While Wonder Woman is single handedly holding up the DCEU but she hasn't "fixed" it, that would be up to Justice League to achieve but there is still a great chance that film could flop critically and underperform so the DCEU is not out of the danger zone yet.
I think the positive buzz from this will carry over to Justice League and WB/DC will have righted the ship.
just remember, bay watch was also voted fresh by 'critics' - so was ghostbusters
Dc just has to understand that their heroes are loved and all they need to do is make a movie faithful to the comics.
I'd also throw in Barb Wire and Tank Girl to that list of chick comic book movies...
AWESOME!
yep.mp4
Woah man, it's a WONDER this movie could actually be the first good DC film.
Nathan Roberts No Man Of Steel
Just got back from seeing it, and I thought it was magnificent.
I like Wonder Woman 2017 Movie. I'm going to buy it, when it comes out on Blu-ray.
Proof that man of steel and BvS were as terrible as critics thought they were. No payd detractors, no paid critics. Some films are objectively bad and some objectively great.
I went to see the movie and I must recommend everyone to go see it! despite early slight pacing issues and underdeveloped romance, I give the film an A-
Yes it was very good indeed...except for the shitty final battle between old man Ares who looked laughable and Wonder Woman
One single theatre puts up a film for one woman only screening and the neckbeard part of our looses it's damn mind
Thank God we finally got a good DC film that wasn't Batman or Superman
Ghostbusters also was certified "Fresh" on RT, though not by as much as this movie. However, it ended up being a flop. Critics liking the movie doesn't mean that the general public will. We'll see.
WW won't be a flop by any stretch of imagination. It will outgross GB in less than a week.
I would love to see you guys cover the box office of Alien Covenant and the oncoming BTS maneuvering of Ridley Scott and the Alien franchise.
I am just happy this movie is good and I can't wait to see this movie
Just a little FYI, Every able-bodied, mentally competent adult citizen of Israel is required by law to serve in the armed forces. She's not special for this, every citizen who's not disqualified from service has done so. That's part of why Israel's military is so strong... the entire adult population are reserve forces. Nothing against her, but that bit about her serving for 2 years isn't anything more special than every other adult in the country. Hoping to see the movie soon though, and very glad to hear it turned out better than was originally expected ^ _ ^
Do you guys at midnights edge have a patreon? I would love to support it.
MrStickySpaz Not right now, but we will soon. Exclusive Patreon content is in the making.
Replace him with someone else with no charisma or talent and the entire movie would collapse in on itself.
casbyness sure, buddy.
Silly? The theme music is awesome!
the movie has a higher percentage rating than civil war, gotg, and avengers dude
There are sure people parading and saying "SEE SEE THIS PROVES THAT ARTICLE WAS FROM MARVEL FANBOYS" in response to a film that got *reshoots* and *alot of edits*. Not to mention the article was from at least half a year ago.
Every recent movie needs reshoots and a lot of edits.
The Green Lantern Corps (2020) should be as gritty and realistic as the WWI segment of WW. That's what was missing in the 2011 film; a sense of 'being in the trenches with the troops'.
The critics said it's good, so I think it's good, said everyone with an IQ of 70
Honestly I can see that Ben leaning the role as batman will probably destroy the dceu...
Personified Persona What?
I predict that WW will now be positioned as the "Ironman" of the DCEU...
Unless you'll be forced to admit you can't put the Marvel pattern on it to compare.
Hoping this movie can lead to a positive change.
yusakug Ever heard of Man Of Steel.
Yes, and it was just as disappointing as the other two films I mentioned above.
yusakug no it was masterpiece
I feel as thought SJWs were trying to kill this film.
the great irony.
Ghostbusters reboot was certified fresh in rotten tomatoes, but it's just not funny.
It had 20 per cent less so it's not even in the same league. Move the fuck on.
emancoy to hell with funny it didn't even serve as a functional film. The original didn't have a lot of comedy either, but it was a solid film first.
Let's Talk Horror that is what made it so unfunny, its an example that the rotten tomatoes meter can sometimes get it wrong. IMO, very wrong.
The little comedy in the original still did it much, much better.
