    The No Man's Land sequence was incredible, I could watch that part of the film over and over again on a loop. And I thought Gal really hit it out of the park. She owns this movie and now this whole DCEU.

      That's because most other superhero movies or movies in general just shove it down your throat and expect you to appreciate it. With this movie, it flows through the story and takes its time. Beautifully crafted story that you can get behind and attach yourself emotionally to.

    • @nikunjdixit1175

      There was no way they were going to shy away from romance with Pine playing Trevor. He's pretty much the only well known superhero love interest that WW has had that is not another superhero.

      @bamm86 7 років тому +6

      Erik Solis haha I was literally about to comment the same shit! It used to annoy the hell out of me when Campea kept on saying he was worried about her acting and saying she's not an actress like she hasn't been acting for YEARS. So what if she's gorgeous. So what if she started out as a model. I honestly think people are sexist with actresses who are "too gorgeous." Even more than with men who are "extremely really really good looking." I got love for Campea but that was sooo annoying when he would do that. So disrespectful to a person who has clearly been working their ass off for years in this biz.

    I loved this movie, and I personally think it's one of the best superhero origin stories ever. The No Man's Land sequence is iconic. There are minor flaws with it, but it does so much right that you can't help but love the overall product. The best gift of this film is Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman. She IS Wonder Woman, and now an entire generation of kids will grow up with her performance as the gold standard for the character, which is pretty great.

    Overall this movie was a great origin story. Nothing felt forced, pacing was great and I barely noticed the CGI in the fight scenes. In fact one of my favorites was the scene in the town when she kind of realized how powerful she was and kicked ass. Also, Pine and Gadot's Chemistry was great they work really well together. Great supporting characters. Ares reveal was interesting but cool, because I had a feeling it was him, but to make him a politician war god seems realistic if you think of how Wars work. Also, his dialogue makes sense on why he did what he did. Overall this movie was Epic!! Patty Jenkins is a visionary director!

  • @grayden4138

    I really feel DC needs to let Wonder Woman step forward and be the inspirational figurehead for their universe, a position normally occupied by Superman, since they've resigned to letting Supes be conflicted and unsure of who and what he's supposed to be.
    His sacrifice at the end of BvS didn't feel like it was because he felt it was the right thing to do. It felt more like he was doing it to save Lois. The character growth between Diana and Clark is night and day. She got so much more than he did, and I really hope DC gives Superman a chance to be a beacon for humanity in their universe. If not, no harm, because Wonder Woman already occupies that spot.

    Why does everyone have a problem with Ares? I genuinely think he's one of the best superhero movie villains seen onscreen. His motivation has a reality and pathos which is unsettlingly truthful and he's the perfect foil to Wonder Woman's Ideals of Love, Peace and Tolerance.

      xXAlonlntheDarkXx The whole fight has a message and its execution is in accordance with said message. It’s the personification of War and Peace at battle. WW representing the light part of humanity and Ares the dark. Both having valid motivations in their believes of human nature. Concluding in a metaphor of championing values of compassion and tolerance over hatred and prejudice. So when WW “easily” kills Ares she comes to that revelation after Steve’s sacrifice. Diana prevails with love and peace which is why she’s so tranquil and Ares angry attacks just dissolve in front of her. Diana even exudes a minimum amount of violence (Almost peaceful) at the end, it’s why she re-directs Ares attack back at him with the killing blow. Subtext and all that... it's not just aliens or robots or exploding living planets like other CBM's.

    Saw the movie last night nigte and I have to say Gal crushed it as Diana, so much so that I am sure with pickup shots still ahead for Justice League the writers over at WB are trying to figure out how to add in more Wonder Woman. Given that, it begs the question... is the DCEU going to turn into the Wonderverse? Will she end up taking center stage rather than Batman or Superman? If she does I'm fine with it, bring it on.

    I loved this. Best DCEU movie by a long shot. This Wonder Woman was just a fantastic character. I loved how smart, yet naive she was. I love how powerful, yet compassionate she was. This movie was entertaining and yet also left me inspired. My only problem was the villain(s). Same problem with almost every MCU movie, they are just never developed. I loved the idea of Aries, but the execution wasn't great. The actor I think was miscast. I think once he became Aries a new actor should have taken the role or someone else should have played that character in general. But overall I loved it. I can definitely see Zack Snyder's 300 fighting style taking full effect which fits Wonder Woman perfectly. Zack Snyder's crew who worked on 300 were integral for the action because they really give that comic book edge type action where they can imitate pages out of the comics so perfectly.

  • @MorganOwen8958

    I don’t know why people criticise the villains.
    General Ludendorff was just a red-herring villain but he wasn’t bad. Danny Huston did a great job in the role and made you believe he was Ares. Dr poison was fine.
    As for Ares, I liked the twist reveal, I didn’t see it coming. I liked the way David Thewlis portrayed him and I also thought he was adequately developed so that you could understand why he wanted to Destroy mankind. The final battle was really good.
    I think everything about the movie was really fantastic from the music, action sequences, story, characters and the performances of Gal Gadot, Chris Pine, Robin Wright, Connie Nielsen, David Thewlis, Danny Huston.

    Really enjoyed Wonder Woman. Gal Gadot did a very good job of bringing the character to life and her chemistry with Chris Pine was phenomenal. Am sad that this pairing will never happen again on the big screen, unless WB pulls that old "Hi I am John Trevor, great grandson of Steve" and we get Chris Pine back for the sequel. I pretty much mirror the thoughts you had on the movie. Patty Jenkins did a credible job, especially with the characterization and interactions. What let me down is that this is the SAFEST movie WB has put out to date in the DCEU. What i liked about the DCEU till now and was that they were trying to do new things instead of following the Marvel formula to success. Man of Steel is a triumph in origin story telling. What a misunderstood gem. BvS was an intense, never before done type sequel. Suicide Squad was the first villain movie in the super hero genre. All these films tried to do something new with varying degrees of success, with Suicide Squad having the most problems. But with WW, they didn't try anything new. It was a very by the numbers movie from start to finish, but very nicely executed. Aries being the big baddie should have set up an insane 3rd act, and yet we got a very stilted big finale battle. And the dialog from Aries, oh my, so bad. A God of War should have had an epic battle. Imagine Aries cycling through different martial arts, different weapons, to throw Diana off kilter, but it just devolved into him throwing stuff at Diana like a jealous lover. and it's always fun to trick a God into victory, instead of a flat out battle to the death. That makes the battle more emotionally satisfying because the protagonist is portrayed as an underdog. The Godkiller aspect of Diana's character was that trick they could have used, but it's Aries himself who reveals that its Diana who is the Godkiller, thereby negating any advantage the story could have derived from that plot point. Anyway, I'm happy DCEU has finally put out a movie that will not be as divisive as the previous outings. Maybe they do need a "safe" movie in the bag to regain some shattered confidence. And I hope one of the things Joss is re-writing and re-shooting is stuff that happens in the 3rd act in the Justice League movie.

(i've read from people who have met her on the streets or in a mall, etc that she is really sweet and nice in person, and that may come across in these sincere scenes), while she was flat in some of the pure dramatic dialogue parts.

    Just got back from seeing it, so freakin good! Gal and Chris were both excellent, the scene near the end after diana has killed Ludendorff and seems to be on the verge of giving up, and Steve is saying maybe we're all to blame but we can still be decide to do something, was maybe my favourite scene in the movie. I feel like that is why Diana would decide not to run away and go back to fight doomsday nearly 100 years later.

    Some thoughts:
    *I came out of the theater thinking that the decision to use WW1 was truly genius. The role of women in general in 1918 helped to really illustrate Diana's "woman out of time" feelings.
    *My friend said to me that he felt like Pine was in a different time period, which I can see, but even if, he was fantastic.
    *Gal was magnificent, any concerns about her acting was laid to rest nearly immediately, I was doubtful when the new was originally announced, I thought that, while beautiful and athletic, I found her too slight to be the amazon champion, but this is my mea culpa, she killed it. I absolutely believed her as WW.

  • @kaatyblue
    @kaatyblue 7 років тому +64

    I actually thought gal's lines were pretty hard to sell, they could have easily come off as super cheesy and annoying, and she pulled all of them off, even one at the at end about love, that would usually make my eyes roll for 10min straight

    • @parthgajjar1607
      @parthgajjar1607 7 років тому

      lmao! I thought that some of the lines were really well portrayed. That emotion when Trevor died was pure awesomeness. The line and emotion when they were ready to leave themiscyra on the boat was a good old cringe. Gal Gadot has room to improve and improve she will, because when you give someone who was ready to quit acting a major role, it gives them something to work for, something to work on and I think all these positive reactions will drive her all the more towards perfection. I watched her in Fast and Furious 4 today and I can already tell she's come a long way and she has a long way to go and we as fans, have the pleasure of being on that journey with her.

    You only took from the 'reveal' was that she was Zeus' daughter and not made of clay? 'Godkiller' was used throughout and when Robin Wright's character is dying and says 'Godkiller', Diana believes she is referring to the sword, when in fact she's calling DIana 'Godkiller'. I enjoyed that secret that the Amazon's were keeping to themselves.
    Also loved that not knowing Ares was a part of the film before going in. But yeah, the moustache through the helmet was a bit silly. A darker face with the red eyes would of been fine.

    I really enjoyed this movie, I mean I have waited all my life to see Wonder Woman on the Big screen. Finally the DC trinity have their movies.(OK Batfleck needs a solo movie, but you know what I mean). Honestly one of the best origin comic book movie in awhile up there with Man of Steel, Iron Man, Captain America First Avenger, and Batman Begins. Also for a solo super hero movie some of the best action scenes I have seen in a while.If I was DC/WB I would make sure that Patty Jenkins does another Wonder Woman movie and give her the Nolan treatment so to speak. Also, would love to see Patty direct Man of Steel movie as well and get her take on Superman. My 1 gripe with the movie is the end. I kind of wish that Ares some how survived. I think the end was solid but maybe could have been better, but honestly that's all.

Literally you see a 2 second scene where it is in the distance and half is in the sunlight and the rest is in the mist, but the front end is a little raised on some white rocks and you also hear the sound of metal on rock which is what gets WW and Steve's attention in the first place.

    @azbadfish 7 років тому +5

    I absolutely loved this movie. I kind of disagree with you all though, I felt the 3rd act was just the right length to get us everything we needed. If it was shorter, I think we'd be hearing more complaints about her being underdeveloped and that they just blasted through the ending. Wouldn't be surprised to hear a Mary Sue accusation or two. But as it was, it perfect in showing her transition - both in her understanding and in her powers.
    I had two (very small) issues with the movie. First, and I'm kind of surprised in all the reviews almost nobody is talking about it - the implied sex. I honestly don't know how to feel about it, but I do know it pulled me completely out of the movie. I don't have most of the hangups regarding sex the majority of people in the US do, and it doesn't bother me that Wonder Woman would want to get some - it just felt too forced and borderline Born Sexy Yesterday (she literally said "teach me" just a bit before, and yes she was referring to dancing but then they cut to the bedroom). They could have just as easily had Pine give her a smile, say "Goodnight" and close the door with him on the other side and we wouldn't have lost anything.
    The other thing is I do not understand at all what her mother's deal is and it bothers me even more having slept on it since watching last night. I went into this film ready to suspend my disbelief and accept whatever they gave me. I don't know much about WW sadly, so when her mother told her about being molded from clay and begging Zeus to give her life, I bought it as much as Diana did. In that light, all the "You'll never train, you'll never be a warrior, I'm going to keep you safe" stuff kind of made sense. But after the reveal at the end, and we realize that's not the case and she was literally created to stop Ares - well wtf mom? Why the hell would you do that? And in neither case does it make sense to exile her, but especially not for fulfilling her god-given purpose. Just... I don't get it. I'm missing something and it's bugging the crap out of me.
    Other than those things, and maybe a few bits of less-than-polished CGI, I absolutely loved it and want to see it again!

  • @jRoy7
    @jRoy7 7 років тому

    Kristian, I think the importance of the reveal on the original is she went from just being an Amazon made from clay by Zeus (the first new Amazon apparently since they were created, but still just an Amazon), to a literal demigod spawn of Zeus. That puts her on a different level than any of the other Amazons.

    Not sure why people have said the villains weren't developed. Sure Danny Huston's character was a bit of a letdown, Dr. Poison was above average and Ares.. dayum.. you felt his presence throughout the whole movie!
    Nothing went off the rails in the 3rd act (like some were proclaiming). It brilliantly showed you how Ares allowed mankind to be MANKIND. He was only the instigator, but in truth we know the evilness comes from us and he, Ares, abused that.
    My only gripe was the pacing and a little bit of overuse of the slow-mo, but overall solid/great origin story. 9/10. For now it's a tie between Man of Steel and Wonder Woman.. sooner or later I'll have to make up my mind xD.

      The villains were the real sticking pint for me, I found them really underwhelming. The real problem with Ares was that they revealed him way too late. It would have been so much more effective if they had revealed him early on in the movie and Diana developed a personal animosity towards him. The way the movie handled it, Diana was only going after him because of what she had heard about him in stories, and for that reason the battle between them didn't have the weight that it needed.

    No mention of Zimmer's theme... Just a single-point annectdote here, but I took my daughters to see it today (9 and 10), and the 9 year old had a complete physical reaction everytime Wonder Woman's theme came on. It had a deep instinctual sound to it that was so powerful! I know it was in BvS as well, and maybe it was so good because it is a bit of a callback - but for whatever reason, it just works!

    The film still didn't resolve why WW has been out of superheroics for so long. In BvS, she specifically said that she walked away from a century of horrors. That means, she's been gone for close to a century until she returns in BvS and I thought the end of WW would explain that but the end kind of did the opposite. So I'm wondering if they plan to backfill that history in new WW movies, or if it will just be a hanging question that isn't resolved.
