    Use heli-coils for fixing threads. They will hold stronger than the aluminum they are embedded in. If it's good enough for aerospace it's definitely good enough for a quad.

    One of my fav ways to spend an hour is watching you restore something from a pile of nothing. So satisfying. I never realised how clock like and cog heavy engine internals are. Theyre beautiful. little metal cranky clocks - so pretty. Ive always been on the edge of mechanic stuff, most racers are quasi engineers, but, its the depth of detail I dig on these vids. makes me feel like i missed 'the art' of mechanic work, you speak that language.

    Have you ever tried plastic welding before? A lot of abs plastic can be welded and be strong as the original plastic. I did it during the late 80's fixing cracks and breaks on sport bike plastic. I don't know if this is a lost art, but it sure save money for my friends and myself.

    ESP when working with frames and stress points your always going to be better to run single line stringer beads with a mig than weave. Little easier to avoid some the undercut you have run hot enough they will lay in nice and clean looking but for not being a welder and in your garage you fixed it the right way so I give props where deserved. Keep up the great content.

    Thanks for the video Mike, I’m currently splicing a frame on a YZ250, rotten frame rails, some advice is to support before doing any cutting to keep frame rails straight and aligned, good job on the repair and the weld isn’t terrible either 😀 try and treat the inside of the frame with a lubricant or anti-corrosion spray in the holes to keep moisture at bay. It will slow down/neutralize what rust remains in the frame.

    I had a frame do something like that. I washed it and then stored it in a shed for about a year standing up on its grab bar and the watter settled in the frame at that location. It rusted through from the inside of the frame and I bought a whole new frame. Im not much of a fabricator yet and dont know how to weld. I know as I build this 86 250R Ill have to have some people do some things for me, maybe I can find someone to teach me some of that stuff. Good job on the frame repair, it looks like it will hold just fine.

    • @MichaelSabo
      @MichaelSabo  2 роки тому

      Thank you man; I think the exact same thing happened to this one; something like you said or it was leaned up against a wall outside and the lower rear rails were on the ground in mud or something.

    • @christopheravery5808
      @christopheravery5808 2 роки тому

      @@MichaelSabo Yup, it doesnt take much moisture to get inside the frame to rot it from the inside out. There is no coating or protection on the inside. I learned my lesson, I will not store a machine right after washing it. I will let it sit outside for a bit and let the water leave any cracks, crevices, or holes of the machine…

    Those threads need some helicoils so you have good securement. Anti seize definitely helps the adjuster bolts. Also when removing bolts that stuck, switch back from reverse to forward, back and forth. It helps break corrosion on the threads so they don't get as torn up.

    Just a tip on the torque wrench, when the green light is flashing it means your approaching the torque you set it to and when the light stays green it means you met the torque when it goes red it means you went above the torque. But other than that the build is awesome!!

    Sometimes on those really stubborn seized bolts it’s beast to go in and out and slowly work out. It’ll help free the threads and tremendously reduce broken the amount of broken bolts!

    New sub here. Can’t tell you how refreshing it is to see things done right! Do like Mike says and buy the service manual people! The swearing at the end had me dying. I’m always telling my wife that swearing at inanimate objects is part of being a man. She doesn’t believe it helps, but the video doesn’t lie. That bearing cap straightened up real quick after it got a talking to.

    Future video idea! Find a old 400ex with a really badly seized swing arm bolt and make a detailed video on how to remove it because there really isn’t anything out there and that is a pain mine came out in 3 pieces! But keep up the awesome content as always!

    I needed brighter lights on mine, I went with a dual row 10 inch LED light bar (30W draw) mounted to the handlebar with a Rigid Industries universal mount plate and two motorcycle LED drive lights mounted to the front grab bar. Think the drive lights are 20 or 30W draw each. Made custom pigtails using the factory wiring harness connectors. Wired so the front grab bar lights and light bar come on together on high beam and just the grab bar lights come on in low. Total power draw stayed within what the stator can handle.

    Idk what's worse, yamahas swing arm for the 660 or suzukis design for the ltz400. Either way, great video 🤘

    Looks great Mike! 👍 As always top notch workmanship. No corners ever cut! I would be proud to buy any of your builds. Pls let me know if you find a good candidate Suzuki quad for a build. Will buy it from ya! 2-stroke or 4-stroke is fine. Prefer a modern 4-stroke. God bless!! -Ohio

    just a heads up on that swing arm, next time you encounter a problem like that hit the bolts with penetrant after you heat it up a bit and it will help a lot also if you do screw the threads a helicoil would be a solid fix, also if to clean aluminum with a wire wheel use a brass wheel or your aluminum will corrode and if you can get your hand on alumiprep and alodine you should use that on all surfaces that will be mating next to steel, they don't do this factory and that's why all those part corrode so bad.

    Great video this is my favorite so far. You should look into grabbing a plastic welder could save you some cash and extra work in the future. Plus they’re super cheap.

      Thank you man and good call! I actually have one but I'm not the greatest at using it. I've tried to fix this exact issue on other machines only to have them snap shortly after.

    Thoes raptor frames have an issue with the frame filling with water id suggest breathing hole at the bottom or drain hole. Oh do you got sabo stickers?

      Spraying some fluid film on the inside too will help prevent corrosion too. Definitely agree with the weep hole comment
