The smell of premix in the dunes, the smell of that wet sand coming off the roost of Skat-Trak tires mounted on some sweet Douglas rims, and the unmistakable sound of the Banshee. What a video. This took me back 25 years to when I was taking my Banshee to every sand dune I could get to. Love, absolutely love your content!

Banshees are something special, a lot of people don't realize that a Banshee won the Paris - Dakar rally in its class back in 1998. The rider, Vikus van Deventer, a farmer with an adrenaline mission finished more than a day ahead of the closest competitor!, yes you read that correctly, and the competitors had much bigger machinery!

When I was a kid my dad had a Banshee. He built it, got heads, reeds, pipes, and it had to run a special high octane race gas. He sawed off the front fenders so all that was left were nubs. By the time he was done building it, I was 12, and the only time he ever let me ride it, I wasn't allowed to go above 2nd gear, because that bike was stupid fast. When I was smaller, he'd ride with me sitting on the gas tank and he'd drag race people with super built raptors and stuff and win, with me riding along.
That bike was crazy. I had a slightly built blaster and there was no comparison. I'd buy a banshee over any other quad as an adult if I had the money.

I rode it for a couple days with the Paddle tires and just crushed everything I saw. I got on a friends Banshee and was very surprised and immediately wowed by it's speed and acceleration. I found the Suzuki 500 Quadzilla in it's race ready form a bit more stable for my liking out there as the Banshee was brand new and had no mods outside of the paddle tires. That Banshee flew. Both were massive fun out in the dunes of Glamis. Nice revisiting those watching this.

This is both true 99.9% of the time and utterly incorrect. If it's fast and you crash it because it's unforgiving and you're not Travis Pastrana that is totally on you and always will be. If a bike is released where big bumps make the frame snap in half, that is dangerous in a fundamental way. Ridiculous example sure, just pointing out it's rarely black and white in either direction.

@@jameshealy4594 By definition, most (if not all) machines are “dangerous”. Chainsaws are in fact capable of inflicting harm, but I would NOT call a properly operated, well maintained chainsaw “dangerous” per say. Now if a company produces a saw where the chain is prone to flying off due to a design flaw, then I would call that particular type of chainsaw dangerous. The Banshee was a very capable machine, but not inherently flawed so long as the operator was equally capable. I guess all I’m saying is know your limits.

2 stroke 3 wheelers and the Banshee 4 wheeler are the only non motorcycle machines I would ever consider buying. In the early 2000's when I had a Yamaha dealership we'd get one of each color which meant two and we'd pull them in and out of the shop everyday for display and at the end of the week when the oil started to drip out of the exhaust we'd fight over who would get to take them outback and clean them out. Double the fun factor in the winter when we'd race them around the building in the snow covered parking lot. Had a helluva time selling 2 every year but at least we had fun with them while we had them.

The powerband on this guy was nuts. As a 75 lb kid this thing was sketchy. I live in El Centro California less than an hr from lots of the legendary desert riding hotspots. Glamis, Ocotillo, superstition basically my back yard. I never owned a 4 wheeler but have ridden lots different ones in my youth quadzilla 500s, banshee 350s but my favorite for the sand was the honda 250r. I am mainly a two wheeled guy now but in high school my parents would never have gotten me a dirt bike but lots of friends had them and lots of weekends spent in the sand. I have enjoyed the videos you have done on your channel so far. A blast from the past. This video is funny because 3 months ago my mother in law wanted to give me her old Banshee but I turned it down because I am limited on a place to store it. Also three dirt bikes fit into the truck bed and with the 4 wheeler I would have to trailer it or take two trips. To get the family out to the desert. Right now my 8 year old is on a vintage trizinger that leaves enough room for my wife’s 250 and my 450 with just enough room to fit the gear in the bed. It will no be long before the kid is ready for something bigger but i know the Banshee was not a natural progression. Great job on the channel

Respect the Banshee, especially one with Toomey T5 pipes, tuned carbs with air pod filters like my profile pic. It is a machine that DEMANDS experienced riders' attention at all time. The stock suspension isn't the best, it doesn't like to ride slow because there's no rad fan and it's always ready to rip, but if a noob is not aware of the powerband, it will definitely rip you to pieces.

Every single flat field in the area had our drag racing shred marks permanently etched into them.
      Boy I miss the 90s,early 2000s.

Might not handle like a honda 250 R but the power of the 350 twin is unrivaled by any ATV iv been on. Wish i bought one when they were cheap now finding a nice one is going to cost ya some coin but probably worth every penny lol!!

Started my motorcycle career in 1990 at a multi line metric dealership and I uncrated and assembled and did the pre delivery service on hundreds of banshees and blasters. They sold the shit out of them probably more than any other model dirt or street. On most machines performance parts give you little gains here and there but the Banshee was instant gratification. The Blaster would get some good gains from the same mods but nothing like the Banshee. If we wanted big gains on the blaster we would take the crank out and swap the blaster connecting rod out with one off the Banshee turning it into a stroker motor.

Its crazy that for a couple of Summers/Winters, I would use the Banshee when I was a Kid. At no point before did I know what kind of machine it was capable of being. I remember riding it and it would take off once the rpms were high enough. Its been about 10-15 years now and now I want it back hahaha good ole banshee. Its currently in my Parents shed collecting dust. Last i remember it had bad carb and idk what else. I do remember burning my leg with that weird exhaust.

I bought a 99 banshee blue in color brand new. I ran 50:1 mix from day one instead of 32:1 factory spec and it made a huge difference in performance. I put some $1200 shocks on it for motocross racing and some bolt on engine upgrades like FMF fatty pipes, v force reeds, boost bottle, bigger jets etc.. I raced amateur at a local motocross track. I was not a pro racer by any means but i could leave the starting line in 2nd gear and take 1st place into turn 1 every time and hold that position for 3 laps before fatigue and lack of experience would set in and the pro riders ( 2 or 3 of them) would pass me on the jumps. It was a great machine that i never had any trouble with. I stopped riding often and sold it for WAY to cheap 3 years before the prices went insane. I do miss it but Im 53 and my need for speed has faded. I also had a 92 VMAX motorcycle that was also fast as hell. Had that thing up to 160 MPH at over 10000 rpm maxed out with stock engine. I beefed up (triangulated) the frame and put in solid motor mounts so it was stable at speed. Also replaced the rubber washer in steering head with metal one to remove the death wobble at 45 and 80 mph. Big improvements! Yamaha is/was my favorite brand to say the least. Artic cat F7 for snowmobiling though. hahaha

My first sport quad was a 98’ 350 Warrior in 2000, when I was about 15. We had a group of about 10 kids that got together and hit all the local spots on Saturdays in our little country town. I remember my buddy Kevin showing up one Saturday with his Dad’s brand new Banshee. I had my Warrior and thought, how much faster could it be? They’re both 350s after all lol. After much coaxing and promises that I wouldn’t crash his dad’s new baby, Kevin relented, and I hopped on that Banshee and hit it! It was a LOT faster than my Warrior. My adrenaline went through the roof as the wheels glided over the gravel road. I squeezed the throttle and my legs against the tank and sent it, leaving a trail of gravel dust a mile long. It was an absolute blast. I always loved my Warrior, but from that day forward I always had a soft spot for Banshees. I have a SxS now and meet up with family and friends for rides. A couple years ago my step brother’s friend showed up to a ride with a Banshee. I wondered if it was just my love and nostalgia for them or if they really were as fast as I remember. The dude let me take it for a little spin and it was absolutely just as much fun as I remember! I would love to find one that hasn’t been ran into the ground but it would probably be cost prohibitive at that point.
