    -- Morning Back Pain After Sleeping | Why Does My Lower Back Hurt When I Wake Up? --
    Morning back pain is a common complaint among my clients. Many people tell me that their back hurts when they wake up, but they don’t know why or what to do about it.
    I always recommend first having your back pain checked out by a doctor to make sure there’s nothing serious going on here. But if you’ve done that and gotten the all clear from a medical practitioner, then you might want to watch this video.
    In it, I tell you the three main causes of morning back pain that I see in my clients, plus exactly how you can fix it.
    Fortunately, these things are pretty simple and easy to do and my clients tell me that after implementing them, they’re finally able to sleep through the night without pain and wake up refreshed instead of stiff and achy.
    So if you want to nix that morning back pain too, watch this video! Be sure and let me know how these tips work for you in the comments below.

    Hi Suki,
    I am 54 yr old female and a totally a back sleeper. And, yes, I wake usually in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom. For the past 2 yrs or so, I wake with such severe lumbosacral pain Im crying and cannot get out of bed by myself. I have to wake my husband to help me get up.
    During the day I can function normally without pain or difficulty ie: Heavy Gardening, caring for my 3 yr old grandson 5days per week, obviously housework etc
    The only relief I have had is when I went through 6 weeks of physical therapy, my therapist recommended a wedge pillow under my legs. It has taken 50% of the pain away…. No crying, and I can get up alone- though it is difficult. Recently, a month or two ago I have found it more & more uncomfortable to sit without changing position- the sensation is like a rising pressure from my tailbone upward through my spine & buttox pain in whatever side Im leaning.
    I’m sorry for such a long question but wanted to be sure you had all the symptoms I can think of. (Oh, something else. (We have tried changing beds 3 times and there was no change)
    Thank you for your time.

    I never had back pain until I broke my back in a serious car accident. This was last year, but I feel like I’ve sort of hit a plateau in healing. I’m like 90% better, but there still lingering back pain. Especially upon waking in the morning. How can I be sure that this isn’t related to my back injury but rather something with my nervous system? I try not to let it worry me, I have other chronic pain conditions as well so I know I’m prone to this and I’m trying to be diligent about not letting the back pain stress me out

    I have back pain at the moment and more in the morning but walking throughout the day does help, its gone from serious pain to uncomfortable to walk, I think its a slipped disc (herniated) as my legs and feet feel a little numb after walking for a while and I cant straighten up. Its so annoying as I am usually so fit with running 10k 3 times a week and walking all the time. Your videos always have helped me, your sciatica ones helped me years ago which I mentioned not long ago. Also what are your thoughts on hydration and the spine, I have read about how the disks in the spine need more hydration as we get older but I'm not so sure how much hydration we need to help it.

    • @SukieBaxter
      @SukieBaxter  3 роки тому +3

      Hey Matthew, glad to hear that your back pain has decreased. The most important aspect of spinal health as we age in my opinion is mobility. So much of fitness culture is focused on support, which is beneficial, but not at the expense of movement through the spinal joints. The more movement you have between your vertebra, the more hydrated your discs will be as well. I wouldn't put too much stock in the herniated disc theory as there is conflicting evidence about how relevant they really are with regard to pain, and I've seen many a person with herniated or bulging discs become pain-free relatively quickly.
      (Not that they *can't* be a factor, and I would always defer to a medical doctor with regard to recommendations for surgery, of course, but I often think people are too quick to blame these disc issues when they might not be relevant at all.)

    I feel like I havent slept well in years. Being a trucker and working weird hours and getting my spine banged up all day like a pogo stick. I finally bit the bullet and bought a Beautyrest mattress from the furniture store. It was 1400 for the queen. This is expensive in my eyes. I was excited id be sleeping better. Within 3 months the bed had a sizeable dip and my lower back and hip pain came on strong! Im no stranger to this pain as ive been dealing with it for 2 decades but the L5 S1 area was screaming. I couldnt walk around for at least half the morning. By the afternoon it was decent again. Same cycle for months and still ongoing. Had the mattress replaced for free and what do you know!! same thing!!! Failed in a few months. Beautyrest avoided my emails. I am really scared to drop 1500-2000 on another brand mattress and be let down and still suffer with this pain. BTW I had a MRI and the L5/S1 disc is basically dead. No water in it and dried out so that is where the pain signals are churning from.

    When i get out of bed i can't even stand up straight and not get down the stairs. Have to keep moving and only can do so walking bend over. If i sit down can't get up and back locks again. After a few hours moving around it gets better, by bed time its even all past. Then in the morning it all start over again.... When i sleep on my couch i wake up fit with no pain at all!! This tells me i have a wrong mattress. Now trying to figure out if my mattress is too hard or to soft. It is a silicone mattress, hard and firm so i made it softer by putting 4 duvets on top. Hey Nicole, it definitely sounds like the mattress is a contributing factor. You might also want to look into magnesium supplementation like I talked about in this video (chat with your doc first of course) to help with muscle relaxation and pain until you can get the new bed.

    • @SukieBaxter
      @SukieBaxter  3 роки тому

      Ahhh, I know, memory foam is awful. Well, at least in my opinion. If you sleep on your side, you might try putting a pillow under your upper arm (so, in front of you on the bed) that you can rest your arm on. It helps to prevent compression through your shoulder girdle which pinches the brachial plexus (arm nerves) and causes that numbness. Works for some people, not for everyone. It's worth a try if you can't get a new bed right now.
