i think its to stop the water from splashing or moving the sand/substrate, or to stop it from mixing up the dirt so much with the water(which could make it very merky if it did)
Hey quick question! I know it's kinda weird/dumb question but let's say you want to re use the substrate and start over the tank, how do you separate the black and the light brown substrates? 😅
Yeah that’s a dirted tank but the tricky part is to make sure the soil is capped by a thick layer of sand. You do not want the nutrients to seep out into the water column as it can cause an algae bloom real fast.
Be sure you don't use only sand cause it can compact around the roots and kill your plants. I'm playing it safe myself and just using Java and anubius plants, don't have to plant those guys
I have a question, I have a tank full of mollies, just a regular tank. 2 of my mollies are now pregnant and I'm gonna get a new tank so once the fry are bigger I can add them all together. Do you think I could get away making something like this for them, or is this specifically for freshwater fish?

actually it’s better to use a plastic sheet since it doesn’t leave any particles behind

Might be a aquarium with alot of plants in so youll never have to give it a full clean just half water changes and vacuuming the waste at the bottom

No fish, it’s waay too small. I’d even hesitate to put in snails
