  • Our Winnebago EKKO did not come with an ALWAYS ON rear view camera and the rear view mirror was useless. So after trying many options we landed on a perfect solution. The WOLFBOX G840S 12" 4K Mirror Dash Cam Backup Camera, 2160P Full HD Smart Rearview Mirror.

    Hi, I just installed it it’s great but still bit dark in brightness setting. Also does g840s record from and rear while I’m driving? I thought it does but tech support said it doesn’t 😢

    Does the rear parking assist come on automatically when you reverse, or does it have to be hardwired for that to work?

    • @VANTREKKINGlifestyle

      The camera we bought does not, but we always have it facing the rear. The ford transit rear view camera with assistance comes on when you put it in reverse.

    Great video! Glad to see you are using this camera on the Ekko! I’m really glad it works good so you can see good in the Miri or who’s behind you. Glad you were able to find Lynn and Maggie when you went walking. Hope you had a great holiday! See all soon! Have a great week!

    Owen, I know you mentioned that you used a 33’ cable, but I think you said it was barely long enough. Would you recommend getting the 50’ cable, or is the 33’ sufficient? You might have the only youtube install video with the EKKO.

    • @VANTREKKINGlifestyle
      @VANTREKKINGlifestyle  9 місяців тому

      I was actually so wrong in how I ordered the cables. I ordered what I thought was a 33' extension cable only to find out they don't sell extension cables, they sell the cable in different lengths. So 33 feet was not long enough so I did a little McGivering and soldered the two cables together. But what I should have ordered, and what you should order, is the 50 foot cable.

    Cool vid. Got mine today. Installing it on a LB Ram Cummins. Gonna build out the back for camping. I think I might run the wire through the firewall and then down to the chassis. Did you have to buy an extension wire?

    I’m confused, In about a minute in the video you said you need to get the “ replacement cable “ and not the “ extension cable” . However, the picture of the product in your video shows extension cable and the link to Amazon is an extension cable. I get the item you have listed in the video description Amazon link ?? Currently on my EKKO I’m using a solar wireless rear camera and in a year now it’s going on and off frequently. Just got the blind spot monitoring sensor replaced. Cross your fingers and let’s hope they stay working.

      @VANTREKKINGlifestyle  Рік тому

      Awesome to hear about your blind spot. Yes, the item list is confusing. I thought it was going to be an extension cord. It is actually a longer replacement cord. It is just long enough to work.

    Great Video! Answered all but 1 of the questions I had about this camera. How is the headlight glare at night? With a big display like that, does it wash out your night vision?

    • @VANTREKKINGlifestyle
      @VANTREKKINGlifestyle  9 місяців тому

      Thanks for letting us know we answered your questions about it. I don't notice headlight glare and it doesn't wash out my night vision. But... everyone is different. You can dim it down at night if you want but I don't ever do that either. Detail at night is not super good. You can tell if it's a semi or a car behind you and you can tell when someone is passing you... but when Lynn was following me in Florida in the car it was really hard to tell if it was actually our car behind me. Lights from cars just kind of look the same at night. Hope that helps.

    We drive a View and I have experimented with backup cameras and have 2 on the shelf and have not convinced myself they provide significant benefit. Properly adjusted mirrors cover your blind spots and you can see what is behind you while driving, below 20 mph you can turn on the stock camera and take a look. We tow a Jeep and monitoring might be helpful while driving but regularly checking at stops works just as well. Also looking at the rear camera can be as distracting as texting while driving. That is why the NTSB limits rear camera use above 20 mph on production installed cameras. It is what ever makes you comfortable.

    Can the rear viewing camera be used as a secondary front? For a lower camera for trails on my jeep.

  • @kghuffman
    @kghuffman Рік тому

    I think this is something we will install. In researching the mirror it appears that a feature exists to display (and adjust) backup parking guidance lines if the wiring harness is connected to the backup light wire. Did you connect that feature? If so, does it work ok on the EKKO? Thanks!!!!

    • @VANTREKKINGlifestyle
      @VANTREKKINGlifestyle  Рік тому

      No we cut the red wire. It was my understanding that if you connected it you would only the camera on when you're backing up. But I could be wrong about that.

    • @kghuffman
      @kghuffman Рік тому

      @@VANTREKKINGlifestyle The way I interpreted it is that when you put transmission into reverse then the rear camera will dominate the entire mirror display and also show you the parking helper lines. Once you shift out of reverse, the mirror reverts to your previous display mode (like your preference of half forward camera and half rear camera without the parking lines). I think the parking alignment lines are only for alignment and do not curve to match the projected path based on steering wheel position like some OEM displays do. But I also could be wrong about that.

      Depends on whether you want to drop a hole under the plastic/rubber piece in the footstep area. There may be a hike somewhere on it already but I couldn't find it. And I didn't want to drill a hole unless I loved the camera. And we love the camera.

    Looks great… can you let us know how it does at night. Most of these cameras get washed out by oncoming headlights to the point all you see is white blobs and cannot see traffic any longer. Good ones will auto adjust… thanks for sharing.

    That may be added to the many to do’s! Curious does the blindspot monitoring system work ok on your EKKO?

    • @VANTREKKINGlifestyle
      @VANTREKKINGlifestyle  Рік тому

      It has worked for maybe 2 months tops. It stopped working as we drove to Iowa last year. Then in a rainstorm driving to Ohio it stopped working completely. So we turned around after a wedding and drove back to the factory. They repaired it and it worked for another 200 miles and stopped working again. I'm not going to say their design is a piece of crap... you can draw your own conclusion. Very, very few fellow EKKO owners we know have working blindspot detection.

      @@johnwilliamson9453 I have a 2023 EKKO with the Ford supplied BSM. It is overly sensitive and roadside bushes, guard rails and dead air space set it off. I have put black tape over the little lights in the outside mirrors. The EKKO has huge convex mirrors that when properly adjusted, completely eliminates the blind spot.

      I know I've heard. You can either have no blind spot monitoring or a too sensitive monitor. I've heard others putting metal tape in Judy the right places to reduce the sensitivity. But no one has figured out how to fix ours.
