Youre one of the first reacters to say a nice thing about the Fedra officer with the child in the beginning. It cant be easy and she could have just left him alone but she chose to comfort him.
There's a really good video by a psychologist talking about the episode who comments on the pain in her eyes when she sees the result, but also comments on how, despite that, she continues to comfort the kid. The performances of some of the side characters is so good along with the direction to make sure those little details are there.
Somebody else pointed out that Joel and Sara avoided Infection like 4 times in the beginning. Fungus grows on flour and on the radio you hear issues in Jakarta which is a major flour producing city. So... they don't have flour for the pancakes, they reject the biscuits from the neighbor, Sara leaves before the cookies are ready and Joel does not buy a cake. Mycelium can spread via flour hence they avoided infection.
As a viewer who has already binge-watched the available episodes via several other reactors, I gotta say I loved your reaction so much that I'm craving your next episodes' reactions and actually loving your spoilers. Glad you're enjoying the adaptation!
Scientists have mentioned that the specific cordyceps that can do that to ants did so for hundreds of thousands of years... and so far didn't evolve to do that to any other insect when temperature isn't a problem... So the chance it manages to adapt to our temperatures *and* our brain are ridiculously super tiny, they say. All that said, from a narration and science fiction point of view : that intro scene is perfect. And it's a perfect setup for this kind of story cause it's credible enough to be super scary.
It was a lovely touch that Sarah brought over a DVD of Curtis & Viper 2. It's the movie that Ellie wanted to watch with Joel in Part 2. And Joel loves that franchise. We also see a poster for the fourth one in the game, and Ellie remarks how it was Joel's favorite.
18:58 Another sad point about the watch is that she gave it to him on his birthday, pretty much the same night she dies. So his birthday will also mark her death anniversary.
I imagine we didn't get subtitles in the watch shop scene because they still wanted the viewer to be as alienated as Sarah felt in that moment, as to what was going on. Puts us more in Sarah's shoes if they do that.
Originally in tlou 2 when Joel was almost dead and Ellie begging them to stop Joel originally had a line were he said “Sarah” to Ellie which would have been even sadder
I'm so glad you're reacting to the show! I've seen through Ep3 so far and while it does differ from the game in places, I have been fully supportive and happy with the changes. The game gives certain restrictions to what you can do with a playable story. The show allows some exploration that wouldn't be feasible in the game. So far even with the differences, I feel both are very true to the overall story. 8:00 I love how it shows her getting Joel's watch fixed. In the game I assumed she bought him a watch, which would be a lot more money. This fits the story better. 8:45 That's "Desert Storm." The invasion of Iraq after 9/11. Fits perfectly with the timeframe. Also ties in with Sarah asking if the infection was caused by terrorists. 11:35 The dog breaks my heart every time. 12:20 It wasn't on screen in your UA-cam cut, but did you notice the movie they're watching is Curtis and Viper 2? 13:50 LISTEN TO THE DOG! 37:40 "That blew every expectation I had for this show out of the water." And the beautiful thing is - from what I've seen, it gets better from here.
Loving your reactions and commentary; one of the most perceptive and informed of them all! Looking forward to more reaction vids to the episodes that follow.
So the song that plays at the end of the episode is "Never Let Me Down Again" by Depeche Mode who have been around since the early 80's...and one of my personal favorite bands. But yeah I feel like in years down the road the series and the games will act as wonderful companion piece's. Never plaid the game but now I totally will. But yeah Cyn, awesome reaction 🤓😁👍👍!!!
13:21 I believe in the game the explanation for Joel being gone has to do with a confrontation with the neighbors. Why that occurred at 2 A.M. in the morning after putting Sarah to bed is definitely unclear. Getting Tommy from jail makes much more sense.
after recently having played the game for the first time since it came out, i'm REALLY enjoying the show changes 3 episodes in. what works in the game doesn't always translate over into a show format so it makes total sense they change things up by developing brief scenes in game into a more story driven production. i love these games but a lot of it is just sneaking around and slowly exploring for stuff punctuated by cut scenes that propel the player forward. LOVING THIS SHOW SO FAR!
18:30 I cried at this point like a toddler, even though I saw the scene in the game and reactions x times and knew what was happening. I am a big fan of the game also and I was very skeptical about Pedro and Bella as Joel and Ellie. But they do it incredibly well. It feels straight out of the game. Also the others ... Nico as Sarah, Gabriel as Tommy, Anna as Tess. All done great. Merle as Marlene anyway cause it's the same actress as in the game. My conclusion after this episode: I've never been so captivated by the start of a series based on a story I know inside and out. So damn close to the game plus more informations and filled gaps. Absolutely masterpiece! The song in the end is Depeche Mode with "Never let me down again" from 1987
10:18 You did far better than most. I watched an Egyptian UA-camr who was able to get the full message. "I just got off the phone with my sister, you have no idea!"
I actually really love the way Arabic sounds. I have a good friend from Morocco and sometimes I'll implore her to briefly speak it. It's a shame, the negative light our government so haphazardly cast upon all those who "fit the sterotype." There are a lot of beautiful beings that get discarded by cowardly group think as a result. 😕
just when I was wondering if you were gonna take us with you on your journey watching this series 😭 what a great day to be blessed by Cyn's reaction to this brilliant show 💕

I always have a tendency to say “You don’t get a second chance at a good first impression”; this series is already a beautiful exception to that statement, rebottling the lightning that made the first game so beloved and a very high contender for favorite video game adaptation for me.
I remember someone who spoke Arabic translated what the clock shop owner's wife was saying and to paraphrase, it was "I've been talking to my sister on the phone and you have no idea what is happening" followed by "You're finished, give it back to her then!"
I was playing the PS5 remake of the last of us, sure i'd seen a playthrough on ps3 back in the day but most of it just kind of faded from my memory, so going the hardest difficulty really made me think "I would die in this apocalypse so easily" Lmao It's really well made especially the collapse of society like in the game that's actually my favourite time in these kinds of end of the world shows, the chaos and unpredictability Fear the walking dead and the walking dead's flashbacks to everything falling apart is the most exciting parts for me. The last of us makes me wish a zombie apocalypse were to never happen, most likely you're still in your body against your will is the stuff of nightmares. But yeah I agree with the way they delved a little more into how the fungus changed and functioned more than the games I wonder if stuff from the show will carry over to part III
Never played the game but did know the basics of the story and I am loving the show, I watch a lot of nature shows and adding some realistic science really makes this more chilling

One thing people might overlook is that Tommy is in jail for fighting an infected. Also my heart always breaks when Tommy shoots the innocent nameless soldier even though I know it' coming. /s
What's the obsession of grown men online complaining about a live action character not looking like their 14 year old animated game counterpart? Creepy and cringe as always.
There are "the last of us game movies" on youtube that combine all the cutscenes and some gameplay elements so you can watch the whole thing as a movie. And funny enough, the game is even more cinematic than the tv show itself. I recommend everyone that they should at least watch the first 10-15min of the game
what is wrong with young adults these days? 90% of reactos I've seen, turn their nose up at the sweet, soft, chewy, goodness of oatmeal raisen, Twice as good as a hard, overcooked chocolate chip cookie....and the batter thing... ok I 'get' pancakes, But waffles are yummy, and fried chicken and beer battered shimp, hell cakes, and muffins, doughnuts, and my Absolute favorite Stroopwafel (crepe-version of a waffel with any kind of sweet yummy goodness you want to put inside it)
YES. So glad I found ONE other person saying this haha. What rh hell is going on? I've watched at LEAST 5 different reactors trash Oatmeal Raisin Cookies during that scene. A well made oatmeal raisin cookie is better then almost any other cookie. Especially chocolate chip. And I will stand with you until the end in this!
Youre one of the first reacters to say a nice thing about the Fedra officer with the child in the beginning. It cant be easy and she could have just left him alone but she chose to comfort him.

First
HBO is not the big screen
that girl is so far from Ellie....... they gotta stop making games into shows.
