    Thats a really family friendly looking spot where mum and dad can take the kids for a fish and if they lose interest they can run around or ride their bike .That is what i like the most about the hook and the cook - there is a little bit of something for everyone ! I think a few of the other fishing channels here in OZ have realised that because they have sort of funnelled their shows towards the glamour species like barra or exotic locations they have lost their core audience - the average angler who fishes for bread and butter species or just want to teach their kids to fish and make a family day out of it .
    Keep up the good work guys !

      Ian thanks mate yes at times we forget our roots, I love the simple stuff, Barra are great but living in a major city its only a dream for most or a trip of a life time.
      Kids need to know the simple stuff first, thanks for you feed back.
      Apologies for next week clip Paul is Barra Fishing lol. Regards Scotty & Paul

    Thanks for the vid. A good recipe from South Africa for mullet is what translates as "closed belly". Don't scale it, gut it or cut it open in any way. BBQ it over Charcoal and when it's done the skin peels off with the scales and the guts remove it one piece as they've solidified during cooking. The algae an plankton tey feed on seasons the meat from the inside while it cooks. Fiddly to eat with all the Jones bit it's the best mullet you'll ever eat.

    0:58 you spoke about fishing in Gerringong (my local area) do you remember where you were fishing. Great video 📹

    Loved the session. Nothing better than going back to your roots! Something which is lost on a lot of modern anglers. Interesting after your Gerringong session I hit my local pig ledge and also drew a blank (something which rarely happens as I can usually manage at least a couple). Put it down to clear water conditions, as contrary to what a lot of people think, pigs are always there, year round (resident fish). Keep up the great effort with your videos.

    What pound braid do you use?

    • @TheHookandTheCook
      @TheHookandTheCook  2 місяці тому

      Mono or Braid keep it light 3kg - 4kg or lighter if fishing across sand flats. Thanks

    Do u in Australia use them mullet for bait? Their awesome bait here Texas gulf coast. Either love "finger mullet" length or cut bait with big ones.

    • @lukefinlayson1867
      @lukefinlayson1867 3 місяці тому

      Yes in Australia we use small ones as bait and any big enough to eat we eat.

  • @lukefinlayson1867
    @lukefinlayson1867 6 місяців тому +1

    Do you use just braid fishing line? Or do you use a leader?

    • @TheHookandTheCook
      @TheHookandTheCook  2 місяці тому +1

      For Mullet mono is fine but braid works well. thanks

    Good rig but wrong technique cast it out and slowly retrieve with a tiny twitch little and big will follow got to jig them with the little twitch.

    It’s so difficult to catch mullet
    By the way do you use stopper?

    • @TheHookandTheCook
      @TheHookandTheCook  5 років тому +1

      Thanks for tuning in, yes a small float stopper is needed or you can fish a fixed float. Regards Scotty & Paul

    How deep were you fishing. I have noticed water is very shallow there even at high tide. Nice Blackfish to finish.

    • @TheHookandTheCook
      @TheHookandTheCook  4 роки тому

      Mal for Mullet you fish very shallow as they feed on the surface so no more than 300mm below your float seems to work fine, yes a nice Black Fish to end I needed that as I had no luck on the Mullet.
      Thanks for your feed back. Regards Scotty & Paul

      @@TheHookandTheCook That's a HUGE one. They don't normally grow that big, and are tastier than the other mullet species.

      Thoeun-uj1sy Bully Mullet you see jumping are tricky to catch mate, burley up with bream as in the clip, sand Mullet are the ones to target mate, good luck, thanks for tuning in.
