I used to fish on the breakwater almost every day as a teenager so it was great to watch this and bring back happy memories. It never occurred to us to fish for mullet though. Caught the occasional dogfish though :)
👏👏👍👍We used to get the grainy paste the butchers get from the band saws when they are cutting up the meat just a day in the sun with the lid off and some water and then you have stinking ground bate and maggots 👍👍
Made a good video from St Caths there Sam. Getting one in the net from up there, was good to see it’s possible solo. Hard work but great reward. Enjoy Cyprus
Top tip. Because of the way mullet feed, never wait for the float to go down. ANY movement at all on the float just lift into them. Also when you are having bites ,cut down on the size of bait, just barely big enough to cover the hook.
Thanks for the info buddy I will give it a try. My reactions whilst mullet fishing are rather sloth like but … I’d like to think I’m getting a little bit better. My friend Rob who taught me is very impressive.. he hits a twitching float quiet confidently and often hooks up.
great fun on the light gear ay ! can’t wait to give this another try.. perhaps in the next few weeks il give it another go.. yeah I had that thought also never had a full crack off like that mulleting but usually if it’s going to happen its further down the line if they go into the boulders or round some weed. thanks for checking out the video it’s much appreciated.
Great bit of mullet fishing, im taking it up next year, im going to start off with the read but I'm going to fish christchurch harbour & chichester harbour with flies I have all the tackle just need the to come back in, 😊
Try fishing without a float 4 hooks tied in sequence wrap the doughy part of a continental loaf of bread (unsliced) cross the 1st and last hook bring a small bucket with water dip and cast for weight works a charm especially when the mozzies are biting so a bit of aeroguard or fly spray on the hands and clothes and your ready for a holiday in Dubrovnik
Well done landing any fish espically a mullett into a drop net single hand...is HARD.... I always rest em a bit before I lift the net up for unhooking. Though in this case it was different
thanks for checking out the video bud. il be honest I’m not a huge fish eater but I have grown fond of trying the gilthead bream iv been catching on the Kayak. the mullet from the piers for the table are fine or so iv heard it’s the ones from the docks etc that arnt so pleasant apparently.. I may have to try one at some point.
@@FISHISLANDTV I love seafood, so always think, “Awwwww, I'd have defo ate that!” I heard the same, the harbour mullet have eaten all manner of nasties, and been around diesel and chemicals, so don't eat them, only the ones caught in open water. Appreciate you sharing your method of bagging them.
So the way the mullet feed, rather then biting they suck or pluck at the bait (bread flake) iv tried before whilst using bread with a proud hook point and they just simply are not as interested. They seem to love the fluffy part of the bread and more often then not you can reel in after a missed bite to discover that the fluffy flake at the bottom is missing but there’s still plenty on the hook. With the fluffy flake at the bottom missing there then becomes part of the hook on show and for some reason they get turned off by it. although saying that I know some guys use a proud hook point and still catch.. personally iv done better with it covered. Thanks for checking out the video it’s much appreciated!
You can eat mullet some say it’s rather tasty if caught in open water rather than from a marina or harbour area where it can sometimes taste a little muddy.
Mullet fishing is fun mate! Yew!

Great video, a lovely fish, your perseverance paid off it is never easy trying to get them into a drop net from height on your own,
Thanks buddy and thanks for watching it’s much appreciated!
@@FISHISLANDTV I like the idea of the small sliding lead weights, where did you get them from
I got them on eBay matey.

Buzzing to see a new video from you, mate.
Do you not eat the mullet you catch?
I know I will DEFO be trying one on the plate when I catch one!
thanks for checking out the video bud.

Why hide the hook point? I'd be baiting so the point is proud.

Can we eat mullet fish?
You can eat mullet some say it’s rather tasty if caught in open water rather than from a marina or harbour area where it can sometimes taste a little muddy.
You alone cannot hook and land fish at a time
Get some helping hand
Excellent demonstration 🎉
Thanks for checking out the video it’s much appreciated!
You want to catch mullet invest in a cast net
I think using a cast net I’d only end up catching myself buddy. It looks pretty difficult.
Thanks for watching!
