I would love a TGC/ROR crossover, but TGC has already covered Zero Mission. However, there's a certain Metroid remake coming out this week that would totally work...

i completed it and i had like 759 when i started the marathon (now i have 1255 and got them by the galaxians in the machine) so 20 lives are enough if u will complete it i can't see how much progress it gives because my game is broken and the percent says 265672 percent complete when i destroy tocman (i play on psvita and zig zag on psvita is very fast) i also have the cutscenes but that doesnt fix the percent number error
i dunno i don't remember if it looked like that when i completed it first time i have 3 files in the psvita memory and i copied the files to a ps3 but i play on psvta
Awesome video! I think the longer format really suits RoR, since it allows you to get much more in detail over what the game differences are and why you feel the way you do about them. Can't wait for the next one! You make these reviews interesting even though I've never played most of them. Also I really have to commend you for being so committed to playing the games on their original hardware. Not a lot of folks would go through the both of doing not just that but also getting appropriate capture hardware, so it's pretty amazing! I've never really understood why people seem to shit on linear 3D platformers, Crash in particular. To me I see it like an obstacle course where there's a new challenge waiting for you around the next corner, and it helps make the games stand out from the crowd. I see it as focusing the game over the rather aimless feeling I get when playing most open-world titles. (also if you ever do the N. Sane Trilogy as a RoR, please please PLEASE mention that while the slipping is an issue and ruins levels like The High Road, there's also actually a larger window on jumping OFF the edge of a platform as well, especially when sliding OR sliding whilst Crash Dashing)
The Crash 1 remake might actually show up on this marathon. I'm still debating it. The new controls really don't work for that game's level design, especially without Crash's slide jump to ease longer jumps. What I've played of the Crash 2 remake fares much better and I hardly notice the control differences.
i actually thought the idea of a kid being sucked into an arcade machine and becoming pacman sounded like a pretty cool idea if the game were any good.
I find myself preferring this episode the most of all of them.. I think it's because of it being a Rebreak and you going into all of the technical detail and showing how the developers had to modify the level design to fit the GBA's power. I don't really know to be honest, but I find this one to be the one I've watched the most. Anyway, keep up the awesome videos, Exo!

@@eb2k445 Yes, I think (emphasis on I think). It's obviously much harder in the original due to needing a million points to get it, but Re-pac lowered the amount to about 750k-800k, meaning as long as you get all the fruit doors in a run and get at least one 4-ghost combo in a maze, you should get it no problem.
"As long as you dont overthink it.." Bro, one of the main reasons I enjoy your show so much is that I overthink this stuff just like you xD Either way, really enjoyed this one, I think world 2 is far superior but this ones not half bad!
Rayman vs Rayman Advance would be neat, though I should definitely stress that the DOS, Saturn, PS1, and Jaguar versions are all substantially different from each other, despite being released around the same time. The PS1 is the most well-known version.
A better comparison would be with the DOS version, all the versions of Rayman released after his original release (that include Rayman Advance, Rayman DSi and Rayman Classic on iOS and Android) are based on the MS-DOS port (and to be fair, the PS1 version had many differences compared to all the other releases, even compared to the Saturn port).
Advance wasn't really based on DOS, it was basically its own cut-down version. As for version difference PS1 is the most well-known and seems to be somewhat of a standard. It was released first and has the full OST, including drum tracks. Saturn is slightly different with a few new/changed/removed graphical assets, and jaguar is cut-down. DOS is somewhat gimped but I would call that a port, not a remake.
The GBA is based on the PC port, just look at the placement of the cages, it's the same between the PC version and the Advance remake (minus one or two moved because of the cut levels), when it was different on PS1 and Saturn; the songs are based on the original PC version (it wasn't before Rayman Forever on GoG that the PC players had almost all the music from the PS1 version) and a lot of the glitches on GBA were already on the PC port. If you want to talk about the original, the Jaguar version is the correct one, the PS1 version was only a last-minute decision (and they did a freaking good job at porting the OST on the console, it's sooo freaking good!) (Funny fact : the Sonic Gems Collection version of Sonic CD and the iOS remake are not based on the Sega CD version, but on the 1995 PC version, as we can see with slighty different water effects and the US OST)
The original CD release of the PC port had most of the soundtrack from PS1, just a bunch of tracks were lumped together and played in sequence throughout the world. Rayman Gold cut out most of the OST to make room for designer along with the original game, and the GoG release was Rayman Gold and missing the same amount of the OST. However, in the GoG version they changed it so that you can simply download the rest of the OST and put it in the files. As for cage placement, I guess you might be correct there (I won't fact check it). Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that the developers didn't port it to PS1 last-minute, they developed it alongside the Jaguar version for a decent duration of the development cycle. And finally, which glitches are you talking about that made it onto both PC and GBA but not other versions?
I'm scatlink sean's brother and I'm doing a 100% walkthrough on Pac-Man World. When I decided to actually beat the game a few months back, I beat the final boss with all letters and mazes complete and thought "Shouldn't I have 100 percent?" But then I figured I need to do the marathon. Then I beat Toc-Man again and then I got 100%, but you can't keep it on your file as it doesn't save after the final boss.
If you play on the Japanese version, you don't need to do Marathon Mode to achieve 100%. You just need to collect all the letters, complete all the mazes, and beat every level.
in the gba version it's anyway due to hardware limitations, despite the tiny cartridge, if you play on the emulator, it's likely to have the noise, but that's just the game, all gba games, the audio sounds great, yeah the way to remove a lot to port in gba.
Pac-Man World 3 for the DS is awful. just when you think it can be good since handheld can do 3d, it messes it up with gimmicks. you know the charge/run in place that you can do since Pac-Man World one, you have to touch the screen to do it then quickly go to the buttons to change tragectory (it sucks if you're right or left handed either way in my opinion). anyways i just needed to get that off my chest, sorry for the rant. Nice comparison by the way.
This is the first video of yours I've watched. Came here because I have history with the Pac-Man World series as well. While I've always appreciated brevity, I must acknowledge how thorough you were in taking apart both games and showing them side-by-side for what they were. I'm very interested in seeing more.
To get 100% in the original Pac-Man World, you have to complete the Maze Marathon, which requires you to unlock all the Galaxian doors and complete the mazes. Those mazes become unlocked in the Mazes section of the title menu and you press the circle button to activate the Maze Marathon, which requires all of the mazes to be unlocked. Completing the Maze Marathon gives you that final 5% and unlocks the gallery which is basically just concept art for the game
Pretty dumb reason to dislike an entire game because of 1 missing feature. Last I checked, a lot of people find ORAS to be a lot better than any of the other 3DS Pokemon games.
I would say even if I slightly disagree with you on some things, I think this was a great ROR. I'll be honest, 2.5D platformers intrigue. Combining the best of both design philosophies while doing something different. (A really great example is Mario 3D World.) But I admit Pacman World 1 can be pretty underwhelming in comparison. It does help that I have lots and lots of nostalgic appeal for this game. But I do think it's great. I mean I love Pacman World 2 too but I can't help but feel some of it is more dated. Things like the locked camera which by 2002 standards of 3D Platformers, doesn't make sense. Collecting items is more a pain because of how the items are layed out in conjunction with your character, and in general, the bosses are meh. Sure, Pacman World 1 isn't perfect but I can't help but feel like the fact it is a 2D Platformer in nature makes it age far far better imo. But I guess that's just my perspective on the original game. Although for the GBA version yeah.... Can I say it's lazy and obviously a cash grab? Seriously, what they were thinking? They should of just not tried sticking tride and true to the original since it doesn't work as well at least from the footage i'm seeing. That, and since half the content is missing, yeah i'll pass.
I know it’s been a few years and I should have said it earlier, but I liked (or even ❤️ ed this comment) because while this is an understandably enjoyable Remake or Rebreak which even encouraged people to love this game as much as they do, it can be a little bit biased/nitpicky (especially the thought that it doesn’t work as a 2D platformer, it’s the prime example of a point that is disagreeable yet understandable/touché-worthy at the same time) for a generally positive review because it mainly has to do more with his experience more than how much of an underrated/as-great-as-its-successor (Pac-Man World 2 for home consoles) gem it is (I am only talking about the PS1 so far, but as for the portable version, on the other hand, while it is, not without good reason, the only GBA/general game to get a Rebreak for being nowhere near as good as the home console/phone versions of the 16-bit Sonic 1 and Pac-Man World 1, I do feel like when it comes to its presentation, he did defend it a little too much. Not as something great, but as the best thing about the game. And while that may be the case, it really does say a lot considering the fact that it is LITERALLY the poor man’s version of the PS1 version’s visuals, soundtrack and selection/design of the levels).
I think it went missing because they tried to fit the entire music tracks into the tiny little cartridge with a small bit of space. They had to cut out so much content, and the music they did add was still cut off. Should've remixed it for the GBA. Then they could have kept everything, or at least kept more thank what did happen.
Dude I love your channel, seriously your breakdown of games and revisiting games that have a bad reputation is genius work. I follow probably 50 or more gaming channels and you quickly shot to the top. I can't get enough, and I just thought you needed praise, keep going, this truly is an amazing channel.
8:53 - 9:07 Me who grew up with the GBA version not knowing about the PS1 version until MUCH later: "I can confirm that the feelings of confusion are most definitely real."
This was a really great ror episode imo. I think you did a very thorough job of listing all the flaws and positives quickly without ever failing to give at least a couple of substitive examples to explore the issue. Also as someone who grew up with a gamecube and wii and never had a playstation console until the ps4 and who played 2 and 3 on the cube i've always been curious about the first and I felt like this gave me a great feel for the game to form an opinion of whether or not it'd be worth playing for me as fan of it's sequels and i'm glad to see I wasn't missing much.
Turns out, getting 100 percent is possible, there's just an asinine requirement behind it. From what I've heard, you're supposed to get complete all the levels and bosses and get all the PACMAN letters like you did, but you seemed to have missed out on the fact that you're supposed to beat the in-level mazes/maze marathon BEFORE you fight Toc-Man. Either that or the rest of the percentage is score based, which is complete shite.
Not really, for as finite as our time on this earth is, we've got to make it enjoyable some how. Sure, we could be spending time doing productive things, but what is productive really? Yeah, we could be working to better the world, or our selves, but at the end of the day, if you're not happy then what does any of that matter. Sometimes, these silly videos about 20 year old games brings people that little bit of happiness to help enjoy the finite time they have. Also, video games or not, they're still a part of our history, so there's that too.
Like Pac-Man World 1 & 2 for the GBA and Sonic Genesis, Earthworm Jim 1 & 2 are GBA remake that were not asked for, and it shows when they’re just a poor man version in every way.
Tl;dw - To say that the GBA remake (or rather demake) is inferior to the PS1 Original is a GRAVE understatement. - A cd game converted to GBA game would merely reduce it to a re-meh status - But what reduces pac world GBA to a rebreak is the lack of replenishing lives after game over like the original but made worse due to the lack of bonus minigames as well as the poor depth perception of stage layout and cheap deaths - As a result, you pretty much have to farm lives as a requirement to progress. It's one of the worst sins in game design. - Beyond that, the game fails to fix any issues the original had such as a lack of game completion checklist.
Fun fact: the ps1 version actually does have analog functionality, partially. The pizza with appendages does move slower the less you push on the stick, but he’s still limited to 8 directions
Ugh, I need to play this game again. I remember playing this when I was like 8 years old and hadn't completed it. Thanks for reminding me haha. I need to finish this and Wario World for the NGC.
I love your writing in this video! The humor mostly if not always works well and you let your vocabulary shine! With a nicer camera and some extra time in editing this would be damn near perfect, although coming from a lower income perspective myself I understand that shit's expensive. Please don't give up on youtube and preferably start releasing more content.
ive got alot of nostalgia for the ps1 version, i got it for Christmas one year from my mom, loved running around on the beach level haha and some good memories playing with my dad
Especially since Tallarico didn't compose shit for Pac-Man World, it was Todd Dennis, but every video game info site credited Tallarico incorrectly until recently. It's like saying Mark Mothersbaugh composed the Crash Bandicoot soundtracks because it was done under his studio Mutato Muzicka.
Cool video! Was always interested in what the first World game was like and upon seeing it....yeah, it seems fine. I will say that it's admittedly really enjoyable to watch you lose your cool every now and then and your whole thing on the GBA's life-grinding was pretty funny to me.
I don't see many people cover GBA versions of games often, so this was much more unique for your show. I hope to see more entries like this for Remake or Rebreak. Awesome work!
Is it just me, or does some text on the GBA version's cutscenes feature different colored lines of text? I think that was supposed to be our way of telling who's saying what.

If you want to talk about the original, the Jaguar version is the correct one, the PS1 version was only a last-minute decision (and they did a freaking good job at porting the OST on the console, it's sooo freaking good!)
(Funny fact : the Sonic Gems Collection version of Sonic CD and the iOS remake are not based on the Sega CD version, but on the 1995 PC version, as we can see with slighty different water effects and the US OST)
+WyattJames I heard that the Atari Jaguar version came out first.
The sequel episode to this is gonna be fun.
Did you beat all the mazes AND the marathon in Maze Mode in the PS1 version? do that THEN beat the final boss and you will have 100%
+scatlink sean Gotcha.
I'm scatlink sean's brother and I'm doing a 100% walkthrough on Pac-Man World. When I decided to actually beat the game a few months back,
I beat the final boss with all letters and mazes complete and thought "Shouldn't I have 100 percent?" But then I figured I need to do the marathon.
Joseph Suhay Good to know.
good luck to anyone that want to complete the game
the game is hard
I honestly really like the GBA version as a kid so now I just HAVE to check out the PS1 version :0 Thanks for this my dude!
Now if only Namco could make another proper sequel to these games instead of just milking Tales these days.
SuperMarioFan123311 Or milking out Ghostly Adventures.
@@robbiewalker2831 or milking collections.
@@64bitmodels66 or milking mobile games
Yeah pretty much
@@goiabexp Or milking Anime games.
When you're watching a remake or re-break marathon and all the sudden you upload awesome!
When you're reading a comment and your use of pronouns confuses you.
SeabassJames I learned english in Germany,so excuse whatever grammatical errors I made. Please tell me where I made my mistake?
It sounds impressive that the GBA Version used compressed CD Audio even if some of the songs are gone and the others are shortened.
in the gba version it's anyway due to hardware limitations, despite the tiny cartridge, if you play on the emulator, it's likely to have the noise, but that's just the game, all gba games, the audio sounds great, yeah the way to remove a lot to port in gba.
Just discovered your channel last week and am hooked on RoR. I love the longer videos too, keep em coming man!
"What a soundtrack Mark"
"Anyway, how's your Soundtracking Life?"
I enjoy how laid back you are in this video. It makes the video a lot nicer to listen to. I usually have these on on the background while I work.
Man I guess you could say that because they didn't just sequence the music in the GBA version, it was very under pressure XD
I love this series. Please make more! I love your channel! It’s a shame only 40K people have actually discovered your channel.
Nice comparison by the way.
guerreroums it does suck
+guerreroums SWEET MERCIFUL CRAP that sounds cumbersome!
guerreroums it sucks
Get exo on that mate
I love just watching all your videos even the old ones Can’t wait till you upload again
I’m really surprised that some people didn’t know that this was on the ps1 that version was one of my favorite childhood memories
Great Video! I found it while looking for Pacman music to add to my modded smash bros game. Keep up the great work!
Since you have a 3DS capture card, how about ROR on Pokemon RSE vs ORAS?
Dashing Jack Why not do a trilogy of reviews & also do RBY Vs FRLG & GSC Vs HGSS?
Because ORAS gets alot of flack for a remake, when compared to HGSS.
why does oras get alot of flak?
Mainly, no Battle Frontier.
Pretty dumb reason to dislike an entire game because of 1 missing feature. Last I checked, a lot of people find ORAS to be a lot better than any of the other 3DS Pokemon games.
Got this in my recommended vids. Awesome! Thanks for great memories and great points about the different versions of this game.
Keep Rocking Bro!
I would say even if I slightly disagree with you on some things, I think this was a great ROR. I'll be honest, 2.5D platformers intrigue. Combining the best of both design philosophies while doing something different. (A really great example is Mario 3D World.)
But I admit Pacman World 1 can be pretty underwhelming in comparison.
I have NEVER BEEN MORE EXSITED IN MY LIFE PAC MAN WORLD IS BACK! DID YOU HEAR?!
Me: wait it’s not bad
Looks back
Me: *_yep it’s bad_*
8:53 - 9:07 Me who grew up with the GBA version not knowing about the PS1 version until MUCH later: "I can confirm that the feelings of confusion are most definitely real."
can't wait for part 2 with re-pac. lol
In 8 years of search and because of this video, I was able to find one of the first games I ever played, pac man world 2. Thanks EPG!!!
Pac-Man World was my first PlayStation game
I enjoy your longer videos. You never fill them with fluff so, if there's 50 minutes worth of stuff for you to talk about, bring them on. :)
Literally no game is safe from the Tallarico Event Horizon. He didn't even compose this! It was Todd Dennis!
I bet his mom is very proud.
Finally, some more quality ass content from my boy exo. Keep up the amazing work
how about Mega Man X vs Mega Man Maverick Hunter X
StrongAnarchy I second this
StrongAnarchy I third
+StrongAnarchy I forth this. He did say in his Metroid Prime 2 LP that he was gonna get a PSP. So why not?
That would be great. Plus, Mega Man 1 VS Powered Up.
I fifth this thought.
Exo, you deserve more subs. This episode was great, like others of course.
Isn't it weird that we are finite beings with such limited time but yet here we are watching a Pacman video about nearly 20 year old games?
meh, I spent around 12 to 30 minutes watching two fully grown, matured men with jobs play a shitty board-game based off an Arcade Game.
Hew Man So you watched Board James?
Eyyyyy, Cinemascarre watcher!
Yes!!! i was so hyped for this episode, love the pacman world games
And now we truly have a remake of Pac Man World 1 so this should be fun. :)
Earthworm Jim on GBA would be good to do a RoR!
Really liked this video keep up the good work!
Like Pac-Man World 1 & 2 for the GBA and Sonic Genesis, Earthworm Jim 1 & 2 are GBA remake that were not asked for, and it shows when they’re just a poor man version in every way.
I'm here just to said
Pacman world Re Pac
Man, I loved pacman world 2. Glad to hear someone else does, because I knew pretty much nobody that had it.
Tl;dw
- To say that the GBA remake (or rather demake) is inferior to the PS1 Original is a GRAVE understatement.
- A cd game converted to GBA game would merely reduce it to a re-meh status
- But what reduces pac world GBA to a rebreak is the lack of replenishing lives after game over like the original but made worse due to the lack of bonus minigames as well as the poor depth perception of stage layout and cheap deaths
- As a result, you pretty much have to farm lives as a requirement to progress. It's one of the worst sins in game design.
- Beyond that, the game fails to fix any issues the original had such as a lack of game completion checklist.
Pac-man world (PS1 Version) was the first game I ever played, great video!
Finally we get a real remake!!!!
I love the longer videos. Please make more ones that are longer! I don't mind if they take longer. They are great for doing large amounts of hw!
Exo's one of the only people I "know" that still care about Pac-Man.
Or Bandai Namco in general.
You forgot bout me. I'm a huge fan of Pac-Man
I love your writing in this video! The humor mostly if not always works well and you let your vocabulary shine! With a nicer camera and some extra time in editing this would be damn near perfect, although coming from a lower income perspective myself I understand that shit's expensive. Please don't give up on youtube and preferably start releasing more content.
We’re getting a proper true portable remake now!!
It’s amazing how Namco brought back 2 of they’re greatest franchises! (Pac-Man World & Klonoa in the same year 🥵)
ive got alot of nostalgia for the ps1 version, i got it for Christmas one year from my mom, loved running around on the beach level haha and some good memories playing with my dad
that tommy talirico joke ages wonderfully considering what we know now lmao
Especially since Tallarico didn't compose shit for Pac-Man World, it was Todd Dennis, but every video game info site credited Tallarico incorrectly until recently. It's like saying Mark Mothersbaugh composed the Crash Bandicoot soundtracks because it was done under his studio Mutato Muzicka.
I took psychic damage hearing that name after the Hbomb video lmao
I remember playing this game a lot on the ps1 all the time as a kid, like a really young kid.
I only grew up with the gba version and it's the only reason I have nostalgia for the Buckener bay theme
Pac-Man World was my first ever video game. I am literally crying from the nostalgia.
You should do Diddy Kong Racing N64 vs Diddy Kong Racing DS
Peace!
someone already did that
Victor Betancourt So? People did that with SM64DS.
Victor Betancourt when?
nope
Back in August First of last year by the youtuber in the name of hatwearinggamer
Cool video! Was always interested in what the first World game was like and upon seeing it....yeah, it seems fine. I will say that it's admittedly really enjoyable to watch you lose your cool every now and then and your whole thing on the GBA's life-grinding was pretty funny to me.
I remember the first time I saw Toc Man laughing at me on that Game over screen I ran out of my room scared. I was five years old.
that ruined the game
and they dare to put it on the demo they are monsters
now im afraid of viewing the demo and beta because that trash screen
2:40 YES. I remember growing up with this game as well. That reminds me, I need to find a copy soon
Now it got remake Re-Pac
Great video, dude! Can't wait for video on Majora's Mask!
In celebration of Pac Man World Re-Pac, It's time to make (ROR) Pac Man World (PS1 Vs. Re-Pac)
>similar to Super Princess Peach
holy fuck, dude, I love you. no one even MENTIONS that game, for better or for worse. props, dude.
I actually own it and played it when I was 7 since my younger sister got it from Toys R Us (RIP)
Looks like you'll be doing this game again.
So...
This is the channel that youtube was recommend me during like 2-3 weeks...
I regret not seeing this before
An RPG featuring all of Namco's lead characters sounds pretty fun
I don't see many people cover GBA versions of games often, so this was much more unique for your show. I hope to see more entries like this for Remake or Rebreak. Awesome work!
I remember that I had Pac Man World on my -emulator- Gameboy Advanced when I was a kid and I never played that much of it. Now I know why.
I love this channel so original!
4 years later and they are making another Pac-Man world remake
Pac-Man world repac
Better remake or rebreak it
I always come back to this ROR as this is the one that introduced me to ROR.
u said no terris fans allowed
Is it just me, or does some text on the GBA version's cutscenes feature different colored lines of text? I think that was supposed to be our way of telling who's saying what.
