And even if it doesn't technically count as "resisting" and fetch you another charge, all it does is prolong your detainment and make things harder for you in general. Like if you're truly just being detained because they're investigating something, especially something involving multiple people that need to be interviewed, they may ask you to stay in one place, move to another or even handcuff you until they can get to you or get all the info. All resisting those orders or requests does is show that you're unwilling to be cooperate and indicate you may have something to hide so they're going to be looking harder at you than those who do comply and be more likely to believe those people if their story differs from yours and there's no hard evidence. Plus, they can't move on until they've dealt with you and making sure you're staying where you're asked and not trying to hide evidence, sneak up on them or run off.

Bro, I actually agree with the two teens on this one. This cop was a total douche through the entire interaction. Firstly, he approached them for no reason. Acted like a dickhead throughout the entire engagement. And was justified in arresting an 18 year old kid over a 2 month expired prescription?
There are drugs likely being trafficked into his community, thieves stealing, domestic abuse, and a plethora of other violent and/or costly crimes being committed. Meanwhile, he is worried about two teenagers who aren't even driving, chilling in a vehicle while eating fast food on a nice summer day. It amazes me that cops are this concerned over some weed.
Thanks for your heroic work, officers! Yall really made the community a lot safer taking these kids off the street. It's no wonder no one has respect for American Law Enforcement.

The refusal to tell people the consequences of refusing a sobriety test annoys the hell out of me. Telling them "it's voluntary" and nothing else seems to be entirely intended to get people to refuse because they don't realize they'll immediately be assumed to be drunk and lose their license even if they're completely sober. And she should have been on s*icide watch automatically after the discussion with the boyfriend and observation that she'd cut herself. And the video fails to point out that 0.08 is the limit for adults, and a 19-year-old (depending on the state) is probably supposed to be 0.02 or lower.

The cops in these videos are often as vague as possible about steps, consequences, etc. in order to get people to catch more charges. I don't mind if they phrase it as "taking the test helps you show that you're sober and safe to drive", but "voluntary" means without consequences in most peoples' vocabulary if it's not explained.

Drinking and driving isn’t a new concept, she even stated she had seen videos most likely related to bodycam stuff like this. People know that they will be punished for committing crimes. But I understand that’s not really what you’re talking about.
Cops don’t decide how long someone goes to jail or how long they get a license suspension that’s all decided in court, is it not? He can’t really tell her “you will get your license taken away for this amount of time”
I agree it was vague, but I do think that things like “you’ll be given a breath test again” can wait until she is actually at the station. If he piled on all that stuff like you listed she would probably not understand, and if she was already asking the same question 20 times then it would go nowhere.
It might seem vague at face value to me and you, and I do agree sometimes cops do that to pile on more charges, but she was extremely intoxicated to the point where she was stupid. These things happen in steps, and I think here honestly it was done strategically not to get her to freak out. Or just throw any understanding she might’ve had out the window.

I can't tell you how many times me or one of the homies had traffic warrants. We were cool to them (not kissing their ass either) they would say, "Take care of those warrants," and leave. I've been busted in a park at 3am with spray paint all over my hands (being a stupid kid) and I was given a long lecture by a sheriff about how I'm going to screw my life up if I keep going the way I was.... my point is that most police aren't bad. it's simple human nature, give respect, get respect!!! It's like she's condoning him caring a firearm, and she doesn't seem to have any concern about the fact that he's only 18 while carrying a concealed and unlicensed firearm, which is a felony at his age. So, simply stated: An enabling mother has created an entitled son. How sad, how pathetic. (I also got the strong feeling that this young man was using "racial profiling" as a way to excuse his behaviors and condemn those of the police officers; but really, that's him exhibiting racist behaviors...if, in fact, that was what was "going down.")

Because some social media have algorithms that are designed to trigger dopamine releases, those kids were also raised by their parents with those phones. They surely haven't been allowed outside without one and haven't learned to navigate the world without a phone/mini-pc. Nevermind that many probably live in suburban hells and their friends in an another one so they can't meet and have social interactions and where they wouldn't be out and about alone anyway, that's their parent's and grandparent's fault not the teens.

Cop called for backup and they searched my car. Of course, they smelled the pot and they asked me if I had any in the car. I told them I smoked the other day and confessed to the cart in between the driver seat. They confiscated the cart and went on their way. Didn't issue me a ticket for the dead tail light or possession of marijuana. Only thing they told me was to get my car detailed as the rear passenger seats were covered in trash and clothes. Obviously, not all police officers are as cool and understanding, but acting calm and collected goes a long way with law enforcement. Had I acted irrationally I definitely would have caught some charges. It was also freezing and my teeth were chattering sitting on the curb but I was also extremely nervous considering the circumstances but it was definitely more nerves than cold.

Man I'd be terrified to call my parents!! Ive told my child if you get arrested because of idiocy don't call me, you sit there till it dawns ur in there bc u were being stupid. Now if its something serious its different but I've said don't call me for dui/dwi bc I'm not bailing you out. I don't approve of driving like that bc u can get someone killed or even yourself so u can sit and suffer.

Hats off to the boyfriend for doing the right thing and to the officer for being patient even though that dad mentality came out here and there. Hope she’s doing better.
