    Worth noting this was probably the least heavy and aggressive song on their first album. An awesome track that introduced me to a band I've followed for over two decades.

      Definitely, and this live recording is a watered-down version of the original song from the album. My favorites from that album are a tie between "(sic)" and "Eyeless." Those are proper Slipknot songs.

    It must be said that this is the radio version with all the screaming layers mixed out of the verses. That makes it seem much tamer.

    The thing that made Slipknot heavy at the time was because it was so raw! It wasn't super guttural or anything. It was really bare, not especially well produced initially, dark/weird/creepy lyrics. Just 90s teenage angst distilled into a record.

    • @Antiguan2222
      @Antiguan2222 6 місяців тому

      @fez135 and to ur pount about creepy lyrics that was why they had to remove 3-4 songs like eeyore,scissors,purity(one of my all time favourite songs by slipknot) and i think one other one that i can't remember the name of from that record and they rereleased the record without those songs because of the messed up lyrical content

    • @FlyboyHelosim
      @FlyboyHelosim 6 місяців тому

      @@Antiguan2222 The songs you're talking about are 'Purity' and its intro 'Frail Limb Nursery', and they weren't removed because of creepy lyrics but because of copyright infringement.

    this song holds a special place in my heart. My dad raised me on zeppelin and sabbath ect. i remember when i was about 16 i showed him this. he had a badass stereo system. we had it on full blast. He half way through it all was jumping up and down and went "Son I fucking get it!" It was a bonding i will never forget.

    Keep in mind this is the edited “radio friendly” version that is more melodic and less screaming than the album version.

    I really like your story of your introduction to "Slipknot." Mine was so random. I'm a few years older than you, but my friend was working at a Ticketmaster/CD store, and someone dropped off a bunch of demos for "Slipknot's" first album. My friend brought it to another friend's house that night, and it blew us away! Such a great addition to metal!

    Oh shit, Ash has never heard of Kittie?!?! Ok, that just became a required listen for her dude, seriously. Start with Brackish and/or Spit, then What I always Wanted - its where they started. If you're a Pantera fan and know the synergy with the Abbott brothers, the same applies wit the Lander sisters, Morgan and Mercedes. All female band and very heavy, always been a fan of Kittie.

    Fun fact, the Iowa album was actually produced in conjunction with the Iowa state tourism department, and it uses clever subliminal messaging to convince people to visit the state. When i listened to this album for the first time i grew a strong urge to visit Dubuque and the Field of Dreams site.
