1988 Ford Escort debute and cold start

Not a collectable by any means, but these cars have a special place in my heart because my family owned one while I was growing up. Found this local and it was owned by a teacher of mine from high school. Going to be repaired and make road legal again after a little TLC

I'll offer to donate some leftover parts I have from my Escort. A lot of parts I bought new and have no use for since I had to scrap my car and couldn't save it. The rust on my '86 wagon was way worse than your car. The only ideas my buddies had was to basically build a bracing system or cage in the rear of the car to weld the suspension directly to the subframe. It was too rough to even attempt and had too much rust to weld to. If you want any new parts I have please let me know.

Do you happen to know how to take the housing off for the thermostat on these 88 escorts? We are having trouble finding a picture or a replacement to view. The doorman one shown online doesn't match what's under the hood of mine. Do you know of any videos that you or maybe elsewhere have done with a thermostat replacement?
