  • This is more of a documentation video of how the rear brakes look than anything but this is the newest Escort addition and the oldest one I currently have

Nice little simple car from a different time!

My first car was a hand-me-down 84 Escort from my parents, thanks for the trips down memory lane. I never worked on it, but it was cool to see the old dash again!

I had the 81 first year with world or global emblem on the sides of the car ya no ac but my escort had the tri angle pop open windows and it would direct air onto you and it also came equipped with a large removable sun roof. Great little car!

I have the diesel powered version of this car. I love it, cherish this car, cause there aren't many left.

Believe it or not thess 80's and early 90's "economy" cars like the Escorts, Chevy Celebrity and the Chrysler K cars are becoming popular with the teens and young 20 somethings out here in the West/Southwest as a cheap/budget JDM style builds, Especially the 2 doors and Wagons. I live in Triangle (Northwest Arizona/Southern Nevada/Southeast California) and there are A LOT of them running around out here. My next door neighbor's 15 year old son is building a 84 Escort wagon, his best friend has a 80 Dodge Aries 2 door that is all built out, one of the young 20 something's I work with is building a 85 Celebrity wagon and they are spending almost nothing on them, They aren't my kind of car but that's hot rodding at it's finest, The $500 Nova of my Generation as become the $800 Escort of this generation.

Best to hold onto those drums, they're getting awfully hard to find and those 7" ones have the drum as part of the hub. I think you can still get the hardware for the 8" drum but the only thing that's the same between them is the retainers & springs for the shoes.
These Weber carbs are pretty easy to clean and rebuild once you learn a few tricks, there's not just jets but air nozzles so disassembly, cleaning, and reassembly is more involved but easy enough to understand. But be gentle because the jets are a darn fortune.... Anyways feel free to hit me up with any questions, onething you'll face sooner or later is the electric choke not working reliably for you so a great solution is a manual choke kit - like what your Wheel Horse and most other garden tractors have!
Definitely only the indicated 62k miles, the seats tear rather easily from pivoting in and out of the car (though these exact tan cloth seats seem to be pretty resilient out of all the other fabrics, styles, and colors) but all the shiny parts on the outside and all interior parts are too clean to have rolled over. Come 80k-120k the interiors start showing significant wear on the seats, door panels, carpet, & dash.
That wheelwell rust is disappointing, otherwise have a great Escort!! That's something you'll want to watch and/or mitigate asap, lot of stories of people driving around and then the shock shoots up into the hatch. You're a ways from that but once it gets to that point repairing it isn't exactly realistic. Rust on the passenger side more than the driver side is indicative of cars that spent a lot of time in-town, parking curb-side for many wet or winter days causes this.
Solid score on the louvers! High value indeed, $150+ if NOS. Confirm they're for the 81-88 2-door though, the ones for the 81-88 Sedan, 89-90 coupe, 89-90 sedan, and EXPs will all look similar until you take them out of the box and try to install.

These were very popular here over in the UK and it is interesting in that the body panels and running gear look identical but the trim is different. I wonder if these were made in europe or the US, either way parts availability it good over here in the UK and it may be easier to buy parts from over here much like we have to buy our Bolens parts from the US. Let us know if we can help

I also owned a Ranger diesel some years ago, it was the perkins 2.3 engine 1983. I sold it to a kid who fixed it up a bit and made it roll coal.

That lifter tap is piston slap. They tend to sound like diesels. My dad had an '89 that made that noise from the time it was new to when we sold it. They're not bad cars at all. They do have their quirks. Good... you have no ac. The ac systems on these cars SUCK!

1985 cars were ugly. Got way nicer by 1986
