  • At the time of filming I just had this van, meanwhile the engine noises have been fixed (new camshaft + bearings and timingbelt-tensioner).
    Due to the higher viscosity of sunflower oil compared to diesel, the car is really hard to start in the morning. As the engine warms up (and thus the oil in the distributor pump), the fuel gets less viscuous and the engine will run more smoothly.
    I ran this car on anything from marine petroleum to sunflower oil and used engine/gearbox oil.

    Alot of mk3/4 Escort vans have disappeared in the UK. They weren't great starters from cold but once warmed up would run all day. Do you have a pre heater installed?

      No I do not. If I have regular diesel in the tank it normally takes about 3-5 seconds to start though. Its sad these cars dissapeared so much in northern Europe, here in Portugal there are still plenty.

      @@martijn9091 I love old Ford vans and the Endura diesel is bulletproof. I've seen quite alot of old cars in Portugal and Spain with faded paintwork and cracked dashboards but rust free.

      I keep full gas until it starts, and when it starts reduce it until it can run idle by itself.

    hello, can i borrow a part of your video for my compilation? of course I put a link to your original video in the description :)
    how did the engine and fuel system tolerate all the stuff you put in the fuel tank in the longer run?

    • @martijn9091
      @martijn9091  4 роки тому

      Yeah sure, let me know when you publish it. If you want, I can email you the video.
      So far none of the fuels have reacted with each other. I do have to change fuel filters 2 or 3 times per year (1 year = 30000km) but with these filters costing more or less 7 euros, they pay for themselves on just 1 tank.

      50/50 with diesel.
      80/20 with petrol.
      Petrol better dissolve sunflower oil, Therefore is enough to add no more than 20 % of petrol.
