What you think?
The only reason I can think of why they didn't put more effort into Aurorus is that maybe they thought that "Look, an early game Ice-type!" was enough of a motive to give the player to consider Amaura. If Aurorus was in Scarlet and Violet, I guarantee it would have actually been BETTER with only adding Power Gem. It already learns Earth Power, which pairs fantastic with Ice and Rock offensively. However, it’s the change from Hail to Snow is what benefits Aurorus the most DEFENSIVELY. With a 50% increase to that 72 defense, it becomes a defensive tank that can even survive a 4* weakness strike. That sure seems fine and dandy, but it needs to set up the snow first. Oh wait, it has Snow Warning for an ability. OK, but even with that ability, it’s still going to get pain. Oh wait, it also learns Aurora Veil. Heck, Aurorus has been able to SLAUGHTER lower tiers WITHOUT the change to Ice’s relationship to Snow. Imagine how much MORE damage it could do WITH the Snow buff. Oh, and it also naturally learns Freeze-Dry, an Ice move that dramatically increases any Ice type’s viability.
The big issue with Avalugg is 1000% its typing. It's a defensive Pokemon shackled to the worst defensive type in the game. Avalugg would be so much better if the Ice type actually gained some resistances.
Defensive typings in contention for being as bad as pure ice Bug/Flying That's about it Someone needs to tell Game Freak they will never make a slow bulky ice type work unless it's bulk is on Eternamax level or they just change the type chart
@@josephbulkin9222 putting aside that it's weaknesses are mostly VERY COMMON coverage types or some of the best in the game, it's also a lot thinner on the special side and lacks resistances to REALLY capitalize on that statline
To fix Goodra I think they need to delete it entirely and use the Hisuian variant as the only one that ever existed. Also I’d love to see regenerator on it.
If only the ice type resisted water and ground. I’d make bug resist fairy. (I’d even go so far as to make normal strong against fairy.) Some Pokémon are just made to be bad and only loved. Auroras could also get some psychic moves. Also, I could see Avalugg having some more points in special defense as well.
ROM hacks fix it all for me, I can never play a console Pokémon ever again. Something about making regular Pokémon more usable and available without all the gimmicks just make ROM hacks a no brainer.
7:29 I used it! ... Kinda. I was using a Gogoat as my grass type for much of my first Kalos playthrough, but replaced it with Trevenant when I found one before the eighth gym.
Avalugg in Pokemon Snap is in water, its made of ice and thats.. water.. I would make it Ice/Water and give it moves like Aqua Jet, Hydropump, Aqua Ring, Flip Turn, Rain Dance and Water Spout
Ice type reallyyyy needs an overhaul. I feel like it should be super effective against water (since many ice moves could seemingly freeze water) and definitely have more resistances against flying or poison even, just something to give it some sort of defensive profile
Yet another video where I've personally used every Pokemon on the list and had zero issue in a playthrough. :P This series doesn't seem to focus much on the truly unusable ones.
For Furfrou I would increase it's stats just a little and I would give it an ability that increases defenses until receiving a fire or slashing move, when it would loose this boost and get one in speed instead (this is to reflect its haircut gimmick)
I would add Slurpuff and Aromatisse to this list because they have such interesting designs, but unfortunately the work you have to put in to get either one isn't conplimented by good Stats or interesting battle capabilities
One thing I'd suggest changing in Goodra, is since Hisuian Goodra is also defensive but way better than Kalosian Goodra, I'd switch some of it's special defense for more offensive power, maybe taking 50 points out of it's Special Defense, putting 30 in it's speed, so that it reaches 110, then 10 more on each of it's attack stats, so that they reach 110 and 120 This way we have a mildly speedy mixed attacker than can have a niche in between it's peers, since most of the Pseudo-Legendaries are physical attackers and having a strong mixed attacker that has a niche that's different from it's regional form also gives new life to it
'first viable pika clone since pikachu' HOW DARE YOU DISRESPECT PACHIRISU LIKE THAT Also Aurorus is so bad, you could just give it a unique move like flying press. Slushball: 80BP, 90% acc Ice Type move. "This move is also treated as a rock type move, successful hit has a 50% chance to raise the users def by 1 stage" Basically gives it more of a niche of 'use this mon to wreck flying types'
poison definitely fits goodra better than water. yeah it likes the rain but it literally produces slime. slime seems more of a poison thing rather than a water thing. i was gonna say this wouldn't overshadow dragalge because dragalge is more attack oriented while goodra is a tank but dragalge's best stat is also special defense which is really dumb imo. dragalge looks far more like an offensive mon rather than a defensive one
Let's make a petition for Nintendo to rework the ice type! Some pokemon changed type (Magneton, Marill...), it wouldn't be stupid for the ice type to change its resistances/weaknesses after years
More to the point, type interactions have already been changed before. In Gen 2, Poison and Bug went from being weak to each other to the former doing neutral damage to, and resisting, the latter. While in Gen 6, Steel went from resisting Ghost and Dark to taking neutral damage from them. So changing Ice right now wouldn't feel out of place. It has precedent.
@malick9549 Right, I forgot that one. Well there it is! Ice was changed before, so it can be changed again! ❤️ (Another one I forgot is making Ghost actually beat Psychic but that was a programming oversight so I don't really "count" it)
Avalugg would benefit a lot from getting recover at the very least, I would definitely give it that. Honestly I also think you could give it its own signature ability that works like leftovers also since it would go with the dex entry you mentioned, idk what the name would be but both these would DRASTICALLY help it out. Its a defensive pokemon of the worst defensive type without recovery. If it could run heavy duty boots and still have leftovers recovery + recover as a move it would be SO much better
So 1: Trevenant was in fact the last pokemon I added to my gen 6 team (named him Hallow) And 2: I would absolutely love if it got all the moves you gave it here
I feel like since the speed stat is kinda nonsense you could easily give aurorus and avalugg higher speed. Meganium has 80 speed and Metagross has 70 speed, so there's no reason that the two slow ice types couldn't be faster. I think they just decide on the stats of the 4 attacking and defensive stats first, then they give out the rest to hp and speed.
when I look at the gen 6 fossil pokemon I cant help but feel like they should be mythicals. Easily the best designs of any fossil pokemon ever, and until gen 8, they were always super unique, like seriously a dragon type tyrannosaurus and a glacial sauropod, it just screams "I had more thought put into my design then my practicality" both pokemon are pretty bad by gen 9 standards, which is why if there were mythical, nobody would bat an eye giving them base 650 base stat totals
Avalugg and Aurorus are otherwise solid mons that are mostly held back by their typing. Avalugg would be a much more effective physical tank if Ice wasn't such a fundamentally flawed type. Just a couple extra resistances would already be a big help. Regular Avalugg could also maybe get Regenerator or Filter and Hisuian 'Lugg could get Solid Rock. Both could maybe use a small Sp.Def buff. As for Aurorus, Rock/Ice is such an atrocious defensive typing that unless you buff both types to unrecognizability it's gonna be doomed no matter what. I would just straight up change its typing, probably to pure Ice or Ice/Dragon. I know the Rock type is a fossil Pokemon tradition but I've never really cared for it personally. Specifically when it seems arbitrarily tacked on like on Archeops and Aurorus. And Rock type or no, I'd also give it Power Gem, for obvious reasons.
Hopefully with ZA coming they give some buffs! They did so in legends Arceus as Cherrim in sunny form now has buffed stats. The movepool is honestly what some if these pokemon need to be good look at how Zamazenta was not the best in gen 8 but in gen 9 now with it having body press that changed 😊
I hate that half of my top 4 Pokémon from this region are on this list, Goodra and Aurourus (the other two are Tyrantrum and Delphox) I get why those two are here it’s just sad
10:18 / 12:50 Body Press can't be in their Gen 6 movelists because that's, uh, a gen 8 move. Also, speaking as someone who used Avalugg in their first playthrough of XY, it... was pretty mediocre, yeah! Still, did what it could incredibly well. Sometimes all you need is a thing that eats physical hits for lunch and it's able to do that well enough ingame. Even if it wishes it had more going for it.
The fact Dedenne didnt get Dazzling Gleam at least via TM had me questioning where all logic in pokemon games went. Gen 5 had a few oversights, like Beheeyem getting Steel Wing, but ever since we hit gen 6, it feels like this kinda sht's in every game, with no fks or fixes given. WHY DOES GREAT TUSK GET PSYSHOCK??
Ironically enough even though some of these pokemon aren't very good... They've got some of my favorite designs... Aurous and Amaura are probably some of my favorite fossil pokemon designs...Which Is probably why I end up picking them every time... (Although I don't like the weird time based evo method they went with for those fossils...) and I love Espurr... It's basically the Carrie White of Pokemon... And Goodra is pretty cool too... It's kind of Like Dragonite in that it's an awesome pseudo Dragon type that looks really derpy...
I gotta say, I appreciate the huge changes you proposed for Aurorus since it’ll give Aurorus some advantages to make it usable, which I wish would become a reality since Aurorus is my favorite Fossil Pokemon of all time. And lastly, interesting idea of making Goodra a Dragon/Water type, and for Trevenant, instead of giving it the three Order moves to fit its theme of controlling the trees, I’d say give it a signature move called Forest Wrath or something. How it could work is that it could be a Grass move that does Ghost type damage, similar to how Flying Press works, and it could either be a single hit move that has good base power, or be a move that hits every opponent, but the base power is around I guess 60 or 50.
I feel like a lot of pokemon's issues are that they have terrible level up sets. I shouldnt have to get tms for a fun in game team (especially when you only had 1 tm so if you wanted to play competitive you hope you didnt waste a good tm)
these games were very beautiful for a handheld and the megas were awesome (I also loved the idea to get the megas in the Gen 3 remakes. They brought me back to Pokemon after I skipped gen5 and started with Crystal back in 2001). Even storywise it's one of the better gens in my opinion.
Agreed. No clue why it still can't learn Power Gem
The big issue with Avalugg is 1000% its typing. It's a defensive Pokemon shackled to the worst defensive type in the game. Avalugg would be so much better if the Ice type actually gained some resistances.
Defensive typings in contention for being as bad as pure ice
Bug/Flying
That's about it
Someone needs to tell Game Freak they will never make a slow bulky ice type work unless it's bulk is on Eternamax level or they just change the type chart
@@baxterbruce9827 No no.
There's also Rock/Ground. Just like ice it was ok in first gen and progressively fell off a cliff in later gens.
You know, there is a simple solution to this, I find.
Novel strategy. Dont pit Avalugg against pokemon who deal supereffective damage to it.
@@josephbulkin9222 putting aside that it's weaknesses are mostly VERY COMMON coverage types or some of the best in the game, it's also a lot thinner on the special side and lacks resistances to REALLY capitalize on that statline
Trevenant getting Glare wouldn't make much sense, since the move's Japanese name is "Snake Glare" (hence why only reptilian Pokémon can learn it).
To fix Goodra I think they need to delete it entirely and use the Hisuian variant as the only one that ever existed. Also I’d love to see regenerator on it.
Delphox really should have been Fire/Fairy while Florges should have been Fairy/Grass to be honest... the pokedex is almost as unfinished as Johto
One day people will realize that gen 6 is actually THE BEST!!!
it makes 100% sense for Steelix and Aurorus to learn diamond storm, im sick of signatures moves not being distributed.
They gave the Goodra line Bide. I am convinced that anyone that does that to a Pokemon wants him to suffer on some level. 😂😂😂
Refrigerate is a cool ability for avalugg that fits it thematically. Gives it consistent stab with body slam.
trevenant was weirdly OU around the start of gen 6 in smogon singles. it quickly fell off since it was new toy syndrome of course but yeah
I love Trevenant! I had a pretty nasty bulky set that did work during online battles back in the day. Harvest is an awesome ability.
Would you believe me if I said I actually did use Trevenant on my first gen 6 play through?
7:29 I used it! ... Kinda. I was using a Gogoat as my grass type for much of my first Kalos playthrough, but replaced it with Trevenant when I found one before the eighth gym.
8:47 I can control my blood cells to make my rod stiff so that means I can use attack order
Counterpoint to you trying to 'fix' Aurorus so someone would pick it.
Tyrantrum is a dragon type T-Rex. Why would you pick anything else?
That is all.
Um, 1st viable Pika Clone; Bro Pachirsu became the World Champ!!!
They need to give ice more resistances if they want to fix the type
Agreed. It's long overdue for some fixes
Didn't Ice get buffed by getting a Defense raise in the Snow in Gen 9?
For Furfrou I would increase it's stats just a little and I would give it an ability that increases defenses until receiving a fire or slashing move, when it would loose this boost and get one in speed instead (this is to reflect its haircut gimmick)
5:19 who else was scared that their monitor/phone is broken suddenly?
I would add Slurpuff and Aromatisse to this list because they have such interesting designs, but unfortunately the work you have to put in to get either one isn't conplimented by good Stats or interesting battle capabilities
Thanks for the Trevenant buff! I have a tattoo of Phantump and my boy deserved better.
One thing I'd suggest changing in Goodra, is since Hisuian Goodra is also defensive but way better than Kalosian Goodra, I'd switch some of it's special defense for more offensive power, maybe taking 50 points out of it's Special Defense, putting 30 in it's speed, so that it reaches 110, then 10 more on each of it's attack stats, so that they reach 110 and 120
This way we have a mildly speedy mixed attacker than can have a niche in between it's peers, since most of the Pseudo-Legendaries are physical attackers and having a strong mixed attacker that has a niche that's different from it's regional form also gives new life to it
'first viable pika clone since pikachu'
HOW DARE YOU DISRESPECT PACHIRISU LIKE THAT
Also Aurorus is so bad, you could just give it a unique move like flying press.
Slushball: 80BP, 90% acc Ice Type move. "This move is also treated as a rock type move, successful hit has a 50% chance to raise the users def by 1 stage"
Basically gives it more of a niche of 'use this mon to wreck flying types'
They need to make more dual typed moves. Such an underused idea
poison definitely fits goodra better than water. yeah it likes the rain but it literally produces slime. slime seems more of a poison thing rather than a water thing. i was gonna say this wouldn't overshadow dragalge because dragalge is more attack oriented while goodra is a tank but dragalge's best stat is also special defense which is really dumb imo. dragalge looks far more like an offensive mon rather than a defensive one
Speak for yourself, I could never forget the beauty and tragedy that is Gen 6
Let's make a petition for Nintendo to rework the ice type!
Some pokemon changed type (Magneton, Marill...), it wouldn't be stupid for the ice type to change its resistances/weaknesses after years
Ice is long overdue for more resistances
More to the point, type interactions have already been changed before.
In Gen 2, Poison and Bug went from being weak to each other to the former doing neutral damage to, and resisting, the latter. While in Gen 6, Steel went from resisting Ghost and Dark to taking neutral damage from them.
So changing Ice right now wouldn't feel out of place. It has precedent.
@@yokaipinata1416also lmao for some reason in gen 1 fire didn't resist ice so they actually "nerfed" it in gen 2.
@malick9549 Right, I forgot that one. Well there it is! Ice was changed before, so it can be changed again! ❤️
(Another one I forgot is making Ghost actually beat Psychic but that was a programming oversight so I don't really "count" it)
Avalugg would benefit a lot from getting recover at the very least, I would definitely give it that.
So 1: Trevenant was in fact the last pokemon I added to my gen 6 team (named him Hallow)
And 2: I would absolutely love if it got all the moves you gave it here
Im a believer in every pokemon getting more unique stuff. I really wish more pokemon had unique moves or abilities to help make them good.
Hm, yeah I could see Aurorus getting maybe 70-80 speed, but no way Avalugg is moving any faster lol
Body press is warranted on most of these picks, but it didn’t exist in Gen 6
I'd give Pyroar Intimidate and let it learn Yawn, Slack off, Energy ball, Psychic Noise and Boomburst
Ice fairy typing for aurorus would be really cool
Babe look! Woop dropped a new fixing bad but also my favorite looking pokemon!
Love or hate Galar, I appreciate that they took the rock off of fossils
when I look at the gen 6 fossil pokemon I cant help but feel like they should be mythicals.
10:16
Body press didn't come out until gen 8
Ice should resist, grass, flying, ground.
Definitely does not feel more “vibrant” than the 2D games
I hate that half of my top 4 Pokémon from this region are on this list, Goodra and Aurourus (the other two are Tyrantrum and Delphox)
I get why those two are here it’s just sad
10:18 / 12:50 Body Press can't be in their Gen 6 movelists because that's, uh, a gen 8 move.
Also, speaking as someone who used Avalugg in their first playthrough of XY, it... was pretty mediocre, yeah! Still, did what it could incredibly well. Sometimes all you need is a thing that eats physical hits for lunch and it's able to do that well enough ingame. Even if it wishes it had more going for it.
Sap sipper is not unfitting thematically because it is a slug
Ice should be neutral to rock and resist water. Boom, type fixed.
Make it super effective against bug too. Since bugs die off in the winter
@@machinat3636bug is literally the worst type in the game and you want to make it worse?
Ice should resist Electric and Fairy.
@@rjante2236 electric and water would be better and then you can make bug resist fairy
I don't think Beheeyem getting Steel Wing was a mistake...
It's TM 51 after all
Yeah, no clue how they thought Play Rough was a more fitting fairy move than Dazzling Gleam on a cute electric rodent
Ironically enough even though some of these pokemon aren't very good... They've got some of my favorite designs...
Aurous and Amaura are probably some of my favorite fossil pokemon designs...Which Is probably why I end up picking them every time...
(Although I don't like the weird time based evo method they went with for those fossils...)
and I love Espurr...
Interesting. Yeah I agree that Game Freak should make more dual typed moves
@@PokemonWoopIkr?
Also, out of curiosity, do you plan on making a video of Pokemon that could use a Mega Evolution?
The way I run Dedenne is cheek pouch sitrus berry, substitute, and recycle. It’s not the best thing in the world, but it’s a fun build
It's such a shame that these games are so easy and why do only the champ and evil team boss have megas?
I agree. I was blown away by X when I bought it upon release. Sadly, I quickly realized they're unbelievably easy
