I love how Goh counts as a technicality. Like by the rules you have, a trainer who just catches a lot of Pokémon would probably rank up high if you consider potential, considering the more y out capture, statistically the chances of catching a good one increases. Also that clip is funny because A) Counting on Ash to get type advantages and B) Shows that Ash does know them, and he just chooses to not switch out during serious battles, like “Yes I know this is a bad type matchup, however I don’t care”
Cynthea still has the best actual team comp, but being held back to Gen 8 with at most a Gen 6 team when its really a gen 4 team shafted her. the comparison is her matchup vs Paul. Cynthea's team actually works together, where as Paul's team is basically a goodstuff pile, same as ash's best team that he could actually put together. while the Ai might be better at wielding Goodstuff Piles, they arent good for actually competing, and its much more important that everyone supports the collective effort appropriate to their capabilities. However, Cynthea's team, even working ideally, is incredibly technical to use properly, absurdly ponderous between 4 Heavy Tanks in Togekiss, Milotic, Gastrodon, and Spiritomb, and Milotic is her one hope to take down a properly positioned Ice Type. Her advantage is that unlike literally everyone except Goh, Cynthea can actually take damage and dish it out even against everyone else.

Its kinda symbolic that ash actually makes the top 3 despite the anime being centered around the power of friendship for the most part where everyone always does parodies of him never making it in an actually competitive environment. How far my boi has come
The first season he lost because he wasn’t a skilled enough trainer to connect with his zard. The anime always made it clear that ash’s love for Pokémon is amazing but it’s not the end all be all, there’s been plenty of times where it hasn’t gone his way and he’s paid for it, he gets up learns and doesn’t repeat stuff (sans black and white). He’s an adaptive tactician that uses every Pokémon’s attributes to their greatest strength, something hard to show with the turn based combat of competitive. That’s where I believe the biggest disconnect comes from
I mean, it isn’t that crazy. Ash’s faults never lie with his Pokemon. HE is always the biggest issue, with him not evolving his Pokemon or including those unevolved Pokemon on his teams in important battles or just doing dumb nonsense in battles. If you gave his Pokemon to literally anyone else, they’d probably be hella top tier.

I was wondering why Goh’s VA sounded so much like his actual VA, but I didn’t expect Kellen to have actually been able to get GOH’S ACTUAL VOICE ACTOR to make a cameo!
The latter half of this list shocked me! Congrats on getting Zeno Robinson I thought the voice was familiar but didn't know it was the actual voice actor for the number 1 trainer!
I do want to add, Goh is a trainer and does battle. Right off the bat, he had the sense to Swords Dance turn 1 against Hodge with Scyther. He won against Oleana and her Milotic from Sword and Shield, beat a trainer with a Gigantimax Garbodor with his Dynamax Raboot, battled Horace and a slew of other trainers in one of his last trial missions, and even battled Misty off-screen. He's also battled against legendaries like Zapdos, Articuno, Moltres, Lugia, Eternatus, Mewtwo, Regieleki and Regidrago. At the end of the anime, he chooses to travel Kanto to collect Gym badges.
@@miguelmenendez2108most of them are just for flavor, as even gym leaders and elite four don't show all their pokemom. Only during tournaments that a handful of people showed their full team of 6, so it is much easier to gather them than you think.
For a second, I thought you just took clips from the show to get Goh's voice, I didn't know you got his ACTUAL voice actor. That was neat! Also, 6:12 iirc Sceptile IS Sawyer's starter Pokemon.
Shout out to Barry when he sacked his Skarmory turn 1 against Paul's Magmortar to get up Spikes, feels like something you could see on ladder/in a tournament.
Goh is that guy on low ladder who has no idea what he’s doing and somehow wins by button mashing unpredictably. The way the anime treats Paul has always said a lot about how the Pokémon company thinks about competitive players though
Ash weakness being speed is funny when you consider his main strategy is speed+counter (which is why most of his slow pokemon have terrible win/loss ratios)
Goh admittingly isn’t focused on battling as Ash is in the Journeys arc. He is smart, just not as experienced as a trainer who travelled to 7 regions and is a champion of Alola.

Smogon is rigged.
I mean, he was doing work against Registeel (nevermind the fact that he didn't win...and also lost to Darkrai....and Registeel isn't an impressive competitive Pokemon especially by gen 8 standards.....what was I arguing here?)
The Ash placement is interesting, since I'd argue something like Gen 8 Natdex should've been considered for Ash. I mean, Ash-Greninja, Melmetal (Melmetal is OU/UUBL in Gen 8 NatDex on Pokemon Showdown), Hawlucha, Gliscor, Gengar, some of Ash's best non Uber mons are omitted in favor of a PU mon in Charizard and a UU weather setter that hinders 2 out of the 3 Ubers. Not to mention, you can also add Mega Lucario, another one of Ash's Ubers, meaning he has 4 Uber mons already in Mega Lucario, Solgaleo, Naganadel and Dracovish, despite not having one in Melmetal. Now sure, considering type overlap, it's not likely that all 4 Ubers will be on the same team. But again, Ash has a host of amazing OU/UUBL options in Natdex, even great UU options like Dragonite, Infernape and Krookodile. I'm sure there's some way to fit these pieces together to make something better than what Ash was given now. For example, a team consisting of Hawlucha, Solgaleo, Ash-Greninja, Mega Lucario, Naganadel and Gliscor easily washes Paul's lack of Uber mons and has a chance to match Goh's team. I'm sure something just as good or even better can be built was all these options. Outside of Natdex, replacing Zard/Torkoal with Solgaleo and Gengar makes more sense IMHO, as it gives him an extra Uber to work with. The team is more physically oriented, but Dragonite can still opt in for a mixed set, thanks to a solid special attack paired with STAB Draco Meteor and wide coverage. That said, outside of Natdex, Ash's team wouldn't beat Goh's based on the rules and premise of this video, but it definitely had a chance to beat Paul's. Regardless, great video as always. Edit: I also love just how baffled FSG is at Goh being as broken as he is. And seeing his EN voice actor (and even having him reference Goh's obsession for Mew) was just the cherry on top.
It's undoubtedly Paul. Every competitive player should aspire to be like Paul. The world of competitive Pokemon is absolutely harsh, so you need to be harsh on your Pokemon to get results. They are just means to get you your victory. If Pokemon were real, I'd treat my Pokemon much brutally than Paul.
14:00 I completely forgot about him having Eternatus, so for a moment, I thought I was going to hear a very compelling argument as to why Mr. Rime is in Ubers XD
Tobias: cleaning up everyone with his uber Ash: finally beats darkrai Tobias: pulls up his 2nd uber 😂 I think he brought a full team of gen 4 ubers into the tournament 💀 1. Darkrai 2. Latios 3. Deoxys 4. Lugia 5. Ho-oh 6. Mewtwo
Rby OU Ash also kind of goes hard with Gengar, Snorlax, Tauros, Dragonite, Lapras, Kingler (or Haunter > Kingler if you count the one who made Sabrina lol). If you get rid of Species Clause then it definitely wins this- Snorlax, Tauros, Tauros, Tauros, Tauros, Gengar/Tauros
Shoutout to Conway for being the closest the anime has had to an actual competitive player. Dusknoir with Trick Room on a team that includes Shuckle, Aggron, and Slowking is a solid strategy
How about Gen 7 Ash? Since we're going by generations and anything caught is fair game (even if released), you can have his line up of Solgaleo, Naganadel, Melmetal, Incineroar, and the UBs Pheromosa and Buzzwole. You can also put in his Lycanroc for priority and Stealth Rock.
Okay, as silly as it is, Thunder Armor would be genuinely cool as a Defense/Sp. Defense Boosting move with some sort of extra electric type based utility as a move meant for doubles.
What's cool about this list is that it does mostly showcase the most impressive trainers by anime reputation as well. They're the characters you get hyped to see fight when you're watching it. Even Goh makes sense, as he *does* have a massive potential thanks to his repertoire, even if collecting is his primary focus.
I mean, it makes sense. Hes got the widest selection and a couple of legendaries to speak of. So he'd naturally have the most flexible team building options

@@Charleyyy678 Yes the blue guy, but the VA is Zeno Robinson who plays Goh.
Never thought we’re all gonna got Goh’d even in competitive Pokémon
Its kinda symbolic that ash actually makes the top 3 despite the anime being centered around the power of friendship for the most part where everyone always does parodies of him never making it in an actually competitive environment. How far my boi has come
Tbf a lot of it is just the sheer amount of mons he has. No way all of them are mid when he has over 50 of them.
That’s where I believe the biggest disconnect comes from
I’m just glad Paul made it
I mean, it isn’t that crazy.
With no power of friendship, Ash would've just steamrolled the Kanto league with 6 gen 1 Tauros lol
BKC is the Simon Cowbel of the judge panel lol
Right? Dude's not impressed by anything
You ever think about how crazy it is that they didn’t give Cynthia her Lucario because Ash had one?
Her team was still very good, so I don't mind.
Paul has to be top 3 right?
Edit: Hell yeah 😄

Crazy how gen 8 in the anime had crazy power creep just like the games
11:27 good old BKC always having a different rating than the rest of the panel 19:28 LMAO
Seeing that he's been playing since '09 makes him undervaluing Gen 1 Mon's make a bit more sense

18:17 Wow. You actually got Zeno for this video. Awesome. Big fan of his.
Of course Goh wins
I can't believe Alain's team made it that far. I mean, half his team is weak to fire, rock and quad weak to fighting, and 4 of them are weak to ground.
It would be better if they included Chesnaught instead of Unfezant
@@emeraldbeedrillChesnaught would have to be on a Gen 8 team since Alain didn’t have it in xy
Further compounding this is that Chesnaught does not appear at all throughout Gen 8.
@10:30 it hit me that you're even using the Gen accurate images for these folks. That is a laudable attention to detail! Sincere props to you!👏
I was wondering why Goh’s VA sounded so much like his actual VA, but I didn’t expect Kellen to have actually been able to get GOH’S ACTUAL VOICE ACTOR to make a cameo!
Oh hey what a cool video- ZENO ROBINSON???
The latter half of this list shocked me! Congrats on getting Zeno Robinson I thought the voice was familiar but didn't know it was the actual voice actor for the number 1 trainer!
The Goh segment was the last thing I expected to see here 😂
BKC explanations are by far the best. I like Joey and Jim, but BKC's breakdowns are the reason hes the best PokeTuber.
BKC could be a slot machine with the amount of 7s
Rip to the people who had to research all the trainers in the anime
To be fair, limiting themselves just to the ones with at least six Pokemon shown cuts things down a lot.
@@teddyhaines6613 true, that is a good point. But that’s still like 25 years of episodes to go through lmao
@@miguelmenendez2108most of them are just for flavor, as even gym leaders and elite four don't show all their pokemom. Only during tournaments that a handful of people showed their full team of 6, so it is much easier to gather them than you think.
"So we gave the voice of Pikachu a regular human speaking part in Japanese." - Sawyer in a Nutshell
Didn't know bro had competitive potential
“so what if we gave pikachu a regular human speaking counterpart in JP but theyre fucked up and evil”
🥪
For a second, I thought you just took clips from the show to get Goh's voice, I didn't know you got his ACTUAL voice actor. That was neat!
Also, 6:12 iirc Sceptile IS Sawyer's starter Pokemon.
I was NOT expecting Goh to actually be in the video 😭 both on the list and as a guest 😭😭
Bro Paul at 17:04 "He know it had terrible IVs"
I mean
Paul is based on competitive pokemon players. He would know that
@@uncle_gebba6702 If only Paul knew of mints and bottle caps for max training.
Shout out to Barry when he sacked his Skarmory turn 1 against Paul's Magmortar to get up Spikes, feels like something you could see on ladder/in a tournament.
My god Zeno Robinson has the craziest range. I love that man.
Just casually getting Goh's VA to show up for a youtube video, very normal stuff here
I was gonna say that was a really good Goh impersonator, but hot damn you actually got the actual VA lmao
Goh is that guy on low ladder who has no idea what he’s doing and somehow wins by button mashing unpredictably. The way the anime treats Paul has always said a lot about how the Pokémon company thinks about competitive players though
Fun Fact: Goh voices Roy’s Fuecoco, in English AND Japanese.
Ho! Ho! Ho Hoge!
Some irony in Ash, who being forever 10 made people assume most game protags were also 10 (virtually none were), being called a 12 year old
You missed the true, theoretical, best team. Ash. Kanto League. 6 tauros.
With all that pokèmon Goh caught, he was "Gohing" to win this video!
Ash weakness being speed is funny when you consider his main strategy is speed+counter (which is why most of his slow pokemon have terrible win/loss ratios)
*cries in Torkoal & Torterra*
then do "THE GOH THEOREM- why player skill is EVERYTHING"
Goh admittingly isn’t focused on battling as Ash is in the Journeys arc. He is smart, just not as experienced as a trainer who travelled to 7 regions and is a champion of Alola.
That could be a great opportunity to poke fun at the 1200s who complain about a format they don't play but complain in the comments of smogon youtubers

You want a peer reviewed study or something like that?
That thing does not exist.it's not like I can check who has been penalized/banned and the reason.
Maybe if I was a midderator I would be able to help you with that.
It is pretty much impossible to say something that the high ranked players will dissagree with(for example that gen 8 toxapex is banworthy) without being either penalized at worst or muted at best.
If you think that smogon is anywhere close to a free speech site then either you aren't using it at all or you must be some 1700+ elo asshole and you take the special treatement you are being given for granted.
You can't even ask high ranked players to speak more coherently without being penalized.
And don't even think about asking anyone for tips on how to improve.
They will only tell you things you already know like "use the (possibly outdated) sample teams and read the (badly written and not so detailed) guides that there are online" and if you ask them for any more advanced advice than that or point out the flaws in their advice they will label you as a "troll who refuses to accept the advice that is being given" and you might get banned for a few months.
Smogon is rigged.
Goh being the strongest means we can’t be clowned on for being the TAP TAP TAP game anymore
The irony of Ash having better team synergy than Paul even though Paul's the one who releases Pokemon that don't fit is team is delicious.
Yo i meant zapdos for giovanni not nidoking in terms of the grounders helping with
How does this only have 5 likes lmao
I like how the task manager in the ad actually shows opera using more memory than chrome.
Paul could probably go even higher with his extra Pokemon from Sword Shield anime when he tried to Train Ash at Prof. Oaks
Torkoal, of all Ash's pokemon, making it into his team is hilarious
Drought is STRONG. Also it has Eruption.
@@Aaa-vp6ug yeah, it's just Ash's Torkoal particularly being known for not having a big win streak
@@casteddu6740he didn't get drought until gen 7, so give that crybaby a ability patch and he's good to go.
I mean, he was doing work against Registeel (nevermind the fact that he didn't win...and also lost to Darkrai....and Registeel isn't an impressive competitive Pokemon especially by gen 8 standards.....what was I arguing here?)
Can't believe yall actually got Goh's VA for this bit, that's sick
Ok Kieran calm down

I completely forgot about him having Eternatus, so for a moment, I thought I was going to hear a very compelling argument as to why Mr. Rime is in Ubers XD
Great video with a very unique concept. Keep it up man
Tobias: cleaning up everyone with his uber
Ash: finally beats darkrai
Tobias: pulls up his 2nd uber 😂
I think he brought a full team of gen 4 ubers into the tournament 💀
1. Darkrai
2. Latios
3. Deoxys
4. Lugia
5. Ho-oh
6. Mewtwo
Great video again from FSG
Amazing to see how they’ve carried the brand past the “how good was” series !!!
Obviously the best trainer is Cameron... Everyone else is just lucky he forgot that 6th pokemon...
Goh's terrifying indifference to tiers means he can field god-tier teams without batting an eye
Jimmothy featured in a FSG vid. This is insane.
He's outstanding in his field
Just realizing Ash's Gliscor was all coverage and zero stab. No wonder he lost Sinnoh.
20:22 Poisoned, exhausted, and physically injured
Zeno Robinson reprising his role as the one and only Goh?! That alone just made me subscribe to the channel!
Too bad tobias was disqualified because in gen 4 we didn't have team preview
If i wanna bet, he was an ubers player
Rby OU Ash also kind of goes hard with Gengar, Snorlax, Tauros, Dragonite, Lapras, Kingler (or Haunter > Kingler if you count the one who made Sabrina lol). If you get rid of Species Clause then it definitely wins this- Snorlax, Tauros, Tauros, Tauros, Tauros, Gengar/Tauros
Shoutout to Conway for being the closest the anime has had to an actual competitive player. Dusknoir with Trick Room on a team that includes Shuckle, Aggron, and Slowking is a solid strategy
He did only use 5 pokemon right? Probatly thats why
Love the collab and the hard work that went into this.
How would that work though? Melmetal isn’t in the Gen 7 games so it can’t receive points for its Gen 7 tier placement
@@ONLY_RR7 LGPE is Gen 7 though.
At the title I was curious if Zeno counted given his limited battles.
Fascinating video! That was fun. Shout out to bkc for always ranking the lowest!

Pretty cool to get Goh's actual VA for this .
Paul is the GOAT. I won’t take such slander
Okay, as silly as it is, Thunder Armor would be genuinely cool as a Defense/Sp. Defense Boosting move with some sort of extra electric type based utility as a move meant for doubles.
Jim is truly gaming today
The only problem with Goh is that he caught 114 Pokémon instead of 151. Need him to battle Wolfey Glicke now.

What's cool about this list is that it does mostly showcase the most impressive trainers by anime reputation as well. They're the characters you get hyped to see fight when you're watching it. Even Goh makes sense, as he *does* have a massive potential thanks to his repertoire, even if collecting is his primary focus.
Jaw hit the ground when Goh was revealed to be number 1 😆
I mean, it makes sense. Hes got the widest selection and a couple of legendaries to speak of.
So he'd naturally have the most flexible team building options
Didn't think this channel would get better and better with each upload
