    I have been trying to find out if the lower lip on my bus is structural and I could not for the life of me find the answer anywhere. I even asked a bus mechanic and he wasn’t sure. And you wonderful man mike have answered me within the first 2 minutes of this video and I can’t even tell you how relieved I am. Thank you. Seriously. It’s been 3 weeks of searching. THANK YOU!!!

    I like how detailed you guys are about your build. very few people would have thought about making the window latch a little bit lower in order to not lose your whole life behind there LOL. Bus is coming along!

    David Pinner is correct. You need to fasten the wire to the box or it will rub itself bare. I really enjoy your videos, keep up the good work.

    Two problems...(1) You need to use a NM connector to hold the wire in those metal boxes. The vibration while driving the bus can cause the wires to chafe and short out. I recomment the snap in plactic ones. (2) Your bus has rubber tires. Grounding to the frame will only cause the bus frame to become electrified if there is an irregular issue and could be a dangerous situation. Your best bet is to use the plastic boxes.
    The bus is looking really good. It's great to watch this build progress.

    • @TheGalifrey

      The bus chassis will be common grounded with the power source (inverter, generator etc) so it will trip out the power supply and cut power and not electrify the bus chassis for more than a fraction of a second. Absolutely that mains wire should have a grommet to protect the wire going into the metal box to prevent the situation in the first place.

    I just found your UA-cam channel and I have been watching a lot of bus builds and I must say I am excited to start binge watching your bus. I can tell you two are perfections. You have a eye for detail and so do I. At 7:55 wifey has a toe ring I was looking at the flip flops and saying how can someone work in those with no sore support. I guess it's the old guy thoughts coming out.

    I did a conversion once which was to an old Mercedes truck. Biggest mistake was to use that Rockwall insulation. Then I put it in the walls and after a year I found something horrible. With driving and moisture it turns like a sponge and then drops down in lumps to leave soaking wet bulges here and there with huge spaces where no insulation was. The wet insulation induced rust and I had no way to change it because the conversion was finished.

    I subbed and rang the little bell. We are researching right now but will be buying and building within the next year or so. Did you buy a full length bus. It looks like it. Love the side door. Hope you keep it. I’m learning from you and the comments. Very very attractive wife. It’s ok, I have one too. I hope she helps me like your wife is, lol. Might I suggest, as I just learned watching you, knee pads. I’ll need them ‘cause I think I’m older than you guys. Best of luck and lookin forward to more progress. Cheers, from Canada.

    hey, might be a really good idea to protect the PEX tubing from the plumbers strap you used to hang it. Over time, expanding and contracting, the sharpish edges can wear thru the tubing. A few rounds of duct tape on the strap should do the trick. I hope you're using connectors to protect the wires going in those metal electrical boxes for the same reason.

    • @sleim754
      @sleim754 5 років тому +2

      Yes to what Dan P. has to say. For sure use romex connectors on the electric and isolate the PEX from the plumbers tape.

    We are in the very early stages of our build, and had a question if we might...did you opt for stranded wire for your 120V wire or is it regular house wire? I’ve heard so many different opinions on this, and would love to hear what you’ve done as a guide.
    Thank you for your help!!

    Hello to y'all from South Carolina! We have been following your bus build for quite a while and are in the early stages of our own build. We have a Collins 6 window named Skoolie Buskie. We are in the process of trying to find the metal electrical boxes that would work with the 2x2 furring strips. Can you please tell us what size boxes you used and where you purchased them. This information would be so very helpful to us.

    The only problem that i can see is that youve not put rubber grommets in the metal boxes to stop the wires rubbing on the sharp edges.

    • @TheGalifrey
      @TheGalifrey 5 років тому +1

      100% agree, that wire and metal boxes is asking for a short with no grommet.

    • @BussyMcBusface
      @BussyMcBusface  5 років тому +2

      Yeah, we learned that too late, but Mike has a plan to protect the romex at those points...

    • @TheGalifrey

      @@BussyMcBusface cut a length of tube the same as the circumference of the hole, slice it down one side and then silicone the tube around the inside of the hole. That will protect the wires (or just get some grommets and cut it to get it around the wire).

    Not sure if you're still reading comments here but I'm curious why you decided against pulling the metal off the walls and ceiling. I'm nearing that point and boy, if someone can give me a good reason not to...i might just kiss ya 😘.
    Kerry, you're a lucky woman! 😁

    • @BussyMcBusface
      @BussyMcBusface  5 років тому +1

      We argued about it for quite some time and finally just decided that we didn't want to take the ceiling off. We knew how much work that was going to be by watching some of the other builds. We knew that we weren't going to be living in Arctic temperatures and we knew that if we could beat the Arizona Heat with a mini-split AC we would be fine. Here's the rub. Gilligan Phantom spray foamed his entire bus. He put a 12000 BTU air conditioning in the back of his bus and still complained about the air conditioning not being good enough in the summer. The off grid skoolie did something similar except he did a roof raise and he has to hang up a sheet in his room to enjoy the benefits of the air conditioning. Since we have a door in our bus we are able to close off half of the bus. We put our mini-split in the front of the bus to keep the area we're going to spend most of our time awake in cool. On a 105 degree day our air conditioning will keep the bus at about 84 or 85 degrees which is tolerable. I do not regret my decision.

    • @AwayToMeBus
      @AwayToMeBus 5 років тому

      Thank you so much for the explanation! I live in a very old house with piss poor insulation (pretty on the outside 🙄). My bedroom is in the eaves of the house and I use a portable AC unit up there. It's only cool right in front of the AC, rest of the room is warm. Same problem so hey, guess it won't be anything new right? I've been watching GP too and his insulation was daunting. Sad to hear that all that work didn't really pay off. I was a little worried about leaks too, more than the insulation. Oh I dunno, it's just me and my dogs so 🤷‍♀️.

    • @BussyMcBusface
      @BussyMcBusface  5 років тому +1

      Well, the good news is you can chase the cool weather!😊

    • @BussyMcBusface
      @BussyMcBusface  5 років тому +1

      Oh yeah, we are going to have a 40 foot deck which will shield the roof from the sun which could dramatically increase the performance of our air conditioner in the summer.

    • @BussyMcBusface
      @BussyMcBusface  5 років тому +1

      As far as the walls are concerned I don't think it made a difference. We put insulation over our walls instead of taking the sheet metal off and putting it inside the walls. It is only about 24 in tall and the reality is right above that is 2 feet of window which have no insulation. I think the windows are the bigger problem and I think the way that we insulated our walls will be perfectly fine in the long run.

    Maybe you can help me out!! I'm building my bus to be in the US for 2 years then moving to Europe. What would y recommend me do on wiring 110v able to later change to 220v. I was told I can wire just the same and later just change the inverter and outlets? What do y think? Also, 50amp vs 30amp...does if change the way I'll wire the bus? Thanks bud!

    • @BussyMcBusface

      There is an inside sheet and an outside sheet so generally you're not going to be poking all the way through unless you're using screws that are too long.
