  • Security Cameras & Overhead Lighting | Skoolie Build
    We felt like security was a real concern and so cameras were a must have. We installed a multi-camera DVR system with the ability to login remotely to check on the bus. This records everything that happens and alerts us if movement occurs near the bus. We can also hear and talk to people that visit while we aren't even there!!!
    In this video we also finished installing the overhead lights and they are even better than we expected!

    About Us:
    Hi! We are Mike & Kerry, the proud owners of a 1996 Bluebird rear engine (pusher), 40" school bus! We named her Bussy McBusface in honor of the RRS Boaty McBoatface travesty.
    We're building a Tiny-Home-in-a-Bus for full-time living in the most adventure-friendly way possible! In other words, Bussy will not be parked in our driveway, waiting for weekend or holiday getaways... when we finish the build, we'll be packing everything we're keeping into the bus and driving away from this old house forever!
    We plan to be boondocking the majority of the time, so you'll see that reflected in our choices throughout the build (100 gallon water tank, composting toilet, solar power system, etc). We'd love to have you stick around and follow us on our journey, throughout the Skoolie Build, and to Infinite Adventures Beyond!
    Mike & Kerry

    The rearview camera can be handy while backing up, and see if you also have tailgaters.

    Thanks for the ideas, NICE bus! The blank speaker hole in the front is common. In many states it is illegal to have speakers that close to the driver because it is a "distraction". Never mind the sixty screaming kids behind you - but no music!!!

    Hey Guys! I stumbled onto y'all's channel today, and, after watching the first video I simply HAD to subscribe! Mike, I am just blowed away with your electrical, wood working, plumbing, and, all of your other skills! The two of you appear to me to be very 'real and down to earth' folks which is what attracted me to your channel! I have been binge watching for at least the last four hours and don't plan to stop anytime soon! I'm so glad I found y'all's channel!

    Learned my lesson years ago, Nutthin but proflex goes on my ride, standard silicone cauld is complete garbage, easy cleanup easy come off & leak! Like your heat pump to hell with proprietary high dollar RV junk use residential to save $'s and live long, wireless cams thru a central router & you can use any laptop or PC monitor for all your video, audio convenience. Man O man diggin the lil CNC router, & the cool wood cut outz, why in da hell paint em I would a left em clear coated purdy wood.

    I'm curious why you mounted your cameras outside, you could have mounted them inside and not put any holes in the hull which are now potential leaks not to mention subject to weather and vandals. Nice work on this bus, I recently discovered this channel the video were you installed the extra storage was the first one for me now I'm bingeing.

    • @BussyMcBusface
      @BussyMcBusface  5 років тому

      Mike, mounting the cameras inside greatly reduces not only the resolution but makes them useless at night due to reflection of the IR lights. These cameras are designed to mount outside and are very easy to waterproof. The idea of having them outside is to catch the "vandals" on camera. I recommend you get some of these cameras and try what you suggested so you can see for yourself how the idea you suggested wouldn't work. Thanks for your comment!

      I was thinking along the lines of my dash camera I have in my vehicle. Also dad instilled the old school idea of every hole you put in your roof will come back to haunt you.

    • @BussyMcBusface
      @BussyMcBusface  5 років тому +1

      I agree to a certain extent but a m pretty confident I waterproofed those bad boys. We are also using the camera while driving to assist lane changes and backing so I needed better angles than an interior install would give us.

    If you want warmer tints for those LED lights you're disappointed in, get LEDs with temperature ratings between 3500K and 5000K (K = Kelvin), and use a dimmer.

    Now that you have been living in the bus for a while, how do you like the security camera set up? Do you use it while you drive as "driving/backup" cameras?

    • @BussyMcBusface
      @BussyMcBusface  3 роки тому +1

      We like the security cameras. We actually use two different kinds. When we are driving we use the outside security cameras and we also use them while we are sitting because they record all the time. The problem with them is that they do not alert for motion reliably. We use Wyze cameras that we put in place when we are stopped to monitor the most logical direction of approach to the bus and those alert us very well as well as sound.

      @@BussyMcBusface hehe my inspiration was V from Ian Robinson's build who kept saying "another day another bus conversion" which always cracked me up. That coupled with the feeling of never accomplishing what I really wanted to each day just lead me to tell myself to do something on the bus which really meant just go do something, anything, who cares what you accomplish! So there's the whole story.

    • @BussyMcBusface

    • @BussyMcBusface

      Simply put, the cameras are for when we are not there. The motion detection alerts my cell and I can actually speak with them with the PA speaker and microphone. This gives us peace of mind while we are away. As for the guns part, Google 11BB4 and you will have a little insight into my background.
