  • The Pinky Perdigon was the brainchild of my Fly Fishing Team USA mate Jack Arnot at the 2023 World Fly Fishing Championship in Slovakia. It worked very well for the grayling and trout in Slovakia and has been surprisingly good at home in the USA since. It has been an important pattern in the rotation in each of the interregional tournaments and the national championships that I have fished in 2023-2024 and is now a regular fly in my confidence pattern rotation. In this tutorial, I teach you how to tie the Pinky Perdigon. I hope you find it becomes a successful pattern in your own confidence fly selection.
    You can buy the materials for this fly at the blog post on our site linked below.

    Thanks Devin. Can't wait to try it. You should put out a video on your absolutely best five flies...your "Fabulous Five Flies". Curious to see. Thanks.

    Just another point. That UVR thread can be a bit of a pain but it's now my favorite for my Thread Frenchies. As far as I know Tactical was the first to bring it to the USA. Thanks!

      It’s definitely a good choice whenever you want to add a hotspot. Glad it’s worked for you.

      I’ve used pink in many jigs and spinners to good effect; many species of fish find it attractive. I’ll start using more on flies, too!

    Pink for Grayling, it makes sense now. Awhile back I was fishing in a predominantly Grayling location. Something new for me. I been told they were in there, but I couldn’t get them to move. I was in the desperation phase of the fly rotation and with snow on the ground and ice here and there I tied on a pink squirmy. Like I said I was desperate, then instantly I was into them. As always great information, thank you.

      Yep that makes sense. Back when FIPS Mouche still allowed squirmies, they were often a deadly fly for grayling.

    The same hook and bead tied with number 14 glo brite is an awesome fly. I’ve dubbed it the baby blue. It’s one of the more popular Stillwater flies with the guys on our Stillwater’s here in Wv when the trout are eating small. I will try to tie the Pinky and fish it tomorrow, thanks!!!

    I started with the black thread went down to the bend and back, changed to the pink thread and tied in the tail then tied in the Perdigon tinsel and finished as you did. I used UTC 70 black and Fl Pink thread haven't fished with them yet but they look good,

    Coming from the land of the small flies here in West Virginia that looks like a winner. Love that FM hook though I wish we could get it in bronze. I tie a lot of black midges (short) and black hooks don't allow for black flies. Any ideas?

    Thanks Devin. Would you go as big as a 16 with this or keep it in the 18-20? Cheers.

    Perhaps you could tell me what situations you would use this fly and why you would use it?

    • @tacticalflyfisher3817
      @tacticalflyfisher3817  3 місяці тому +1

      I haven’t found situations I wouldn’t try it in over the last 6 months. It has been very good the bulk of the time when I’ve put it on.

    When connecting your flies to a euro leader do you attach them with a non slip loop knot or a simple clinch knot?

    • @tacticalflyfisher3817
      @tacticalflyfisher3817  2 місяці тому

      Neither. I use a 16/20 knot. ua-cam.com/video/Szbw7R0AjB8/v-deo.htmlsi=lB-RB0p5OEwTmqdq

    Perhaps you could do a tying tutorial on how you would transition one of your popular goto patterns to a bead-less/ unweighted pattern?

    • @tacticalflyfisher3817
      @tacticalflyfisher3817  3 місяці тому +1

      I’d just remove the bead so I’m not sure how much instruction I could provide there. I do fish unbeaded nymphs for shallow sight fishing situations and they are pretty much the same flies without a bead.

      I guess what I’m wondering is what would you do for the head portion? Would you wrap a silver tinsel at the head on this fly?

    • @tacticalflyfisher3817
      @tacticalflyfisher3817  3 місяці тому +1

      @@peterfetzer7039you certainly could but I normally just include a bit more thread for a thorax, like on a midge pupa pattern, and tie it off.

    GloBrite 1 or 2 or FL Pink UTC work as good alternates, or are the Sybai/Textreme the real difference maker?

    • @tacticalflyfisher3817
      @tacticalflyfisher3817  3 місяці тому

      The shades are definitely different from the glo brite which is why I didn’t use them. That’s not to say they wouldn’t work but the Sybai and Textreme materials I listed are closer to a “shell pink” and they have been very good for me so far.

    • @justaman33
      @justaman33 3 місяці тому

      Let me know if you try either of those globrite options. I had the same thought/question since I have both. Cheers.

    Any good tricks to keep the UVR from fraying? Counter clockwise spin?
