  • The movement of the fly often has a very big impact on the fly and its ability to fool the fish. The Swedish deer-hair specialist, and streamer-dude Andreas Andersson has been involved in the development of the entire Ahrex Trout Predator series, and the streamer hook with the bent (26 degree Bent Streamer) is his special design. In this video, he ties one of his signature flies "Sid” on this very hook, where the head consists of deer hair - trimmed in the shape for optimal movement in the water.
    Hook: TP650 - 26 Degree Bent Streamer
Thread: Fl. Red UTC and 200D GSP
Tail: Grey rabbitstrip with black barrings
Body: UV Silver & Yellow Polarchenille
    Head: Belly deer-hair, gray
    Eyes: 3D Epoxy Eyes
    Finish: Epoxy glue

Awesome work. I feel silly offering a master of his craft any tips. For years I finished my deer hair heads the same way that you do. I now use the finger tip of a Platex rubber glove with a hole poked through the very end. When I change threads I just thread the tying thread through the hole and pull the tip down the neck of the bobbin out of the way. I can tie normally and when I'm finished and ready to whip finish I just slide it up the thread and over the hook eye, invert it over the hair thus holding everything completely out of the way while I whip finish. Then I reverse the glove tip and slide it back down on the bobbin and trim the thread. Thank you for sharing your videos with us and I find a lot of useful information by watching you tie.

Thanks Andreas for great tips such as using a smaller version of a great pattern to entice picky fish into eating or attacking the fly. Well done!

Love these flies and videos with Andreas Andersson. I ordered around $130 worth of that hook along with materials to tie up a mess of flies to try up here in Montana. Love Ahrex brand hooks for streamers. Keep up the great work Ahrex and Andreas.

Love it Andreas! The Mini Sid will work well for me. I'm working on bringing up my razor blade cutting and shaping skills. When I need inspiration, I just watch more of your videos.

You are the man Andreas! thank for another great lesson on deer hair. Where do you get your belly deer hair from. Here in the US the hide on the belly patches are curled and the hair is short. I seen in the video the hair you used the hide is flat and the hair is long.

Andreas is the man. Wondering if he ties a bunch of them and then trim them all or one at a time?

He does. At his instagram page there is a picture of a tub full all waiting to be trimmed.

Great fly Andreas. Do you have a link to the cauterising heat tool you used to tidy the head?

I'm pretty sure he is using Renomed FS8 SuperCut Scissor. Almost every fly shop in Europe sell's Renomed scissors. I don't know about US retailers, but maybe Fly Fish Food sells them.
