I'm married to a Navy vet with severe PTSD. The pain we go through every day that was inflicted 25 to 30 years ago is devastating. I don't think anyone who hasn't been there can comprehend war. He's 100% disabled from the PTSD. This is the real cost of your freedom. The real menace of war. The young man in orange spoke the truth. There is never any truth in it. Thank you for this review. The video, and song is incredibly powerful for my family.

I take care of older gentlemen in assisted care facilities. One man couldn't even read his newspaper, because his body naturally sways back and forth. That man witnessed uncountable death, and probably caused a good bit himself. Coming back home knowing that there's a mother in the country you left getting that message that her son is dead and you were the one to do it. You've got proud family members and you couldn't feel dirtier. It's a strange limbo they're left in.

It must be awful dealing with that and you most likely don't get any help from the government so medical bills keep adding up. He went to war for your government NOT your freedom and your government just forgot about him, it's a disgrace.
The Gulf War was between Iraq and Kuwait, how did that threaten your freedom in any way?
Americans are brainwashed into thinking everyone is trying to take your freedom. When 911 happened was your freedom threatened in any way?
Sorry for the mini rant with what you're going through but Americans need to realise that your freedom is very rarely threatened. Nobody says Freedom more than Americans

The stories he told me, and the way the veterans of that war were treated when they arrived back home was sickening. Sadly, it's only gotten moderately better in younger generations. @@missyterry9930 @Heather Terry Your father has my thanks for his service, sorry he had to go through all that and may he rest in peace.
It's awkward thanking Vets sometimes, since I know some Vets hate being thanked for "Just doing their Duty/Job", so I usually just thank them once then/or just treat them like I would anyone else.
My dad was 1st ID in the late 90's with a few sandbox tours in the 2000's, I know he also did some NATO peacekeeping in Kosovo and maybe Bosnia. Being in the Balkans during the 90's conflicts(If you know, you know)its quite possible he saw some stuff, but he walked out before I was a toddler and the few times we talk he's never brought it up. All he's said is don't join the military, which I'd wanted to do when younger.
Between the family connection and growing up next to a major Army base most of my life, I grew up to be a pretty patriotic person. Some of the things that've been done to Veterans, and the stuff they've had to go through for no reason is criminal IMO.
Might write a second, longer comment on that. I know people care, but that doesn't mean they wanna hear a rant on it. If I do I'll start it with a (2).
Anyways, have a good day and hope things are going alright.

I served in the United States Army Infantry for 5 years and I fought in Iraq from 2004-2005. I can't speak for other Veterans, but I myself hates it when a civilian tries to salute me or calls me a hero. Just stick with the line where you say "thank you for your service." Even when someone thanks me for my service I don't always know how to answer them because I was doing my job and getting paid to do it from American tax payers. When I went to fight in Iraq I wasn't doing it for the money or because I thought it was right. I was fighting there because I was ordered to and I was fighting for the men in my unit or as I would call them "my brothers."

Thanks guys! I enjoy watching you listen to all kinds of music! "There but for the grace of God go I" I was homeless living in my old pickup truck after I got out my first tour of 5 years active. I was living near the beach so it wasn't all bad. Things were hard for a while, I eventually found low paying work and went back into the reserves to help pay for school and other expenses. Eventually got my BSBA (MIS) at a cheap state school, I got a job in tech after that for many years and eventually retired out of the Army Reserves, still working in tech. Turned 60 recently and started collecting my retirement pay - not much but it helps. I started Tricare this year, not sure how that is going to work out, it seems not too many doctors offices take the insurance, initial appointments are 3 months out, but it's cheaper than my work insurance. I had good times and bad times, but I'm proud of myself for sticking it out and finishing up my 21 years no matter how much I didn't like most of it. I'm kind of a rebel, and it was hard to go along to get along a lot of times and conform where I had to to stay out of trouble. I'm not sure I would do it again, especially in this environment, but it can be a way to a better life - for some, that is if they don't get you killed. I lost many friends along the way. RIP. "There for the grace of god go I"

Couple of friends I went to school with are Marines and they both have told me how they hate it when people do the whole "thank you for your service" thing, said it makes them feel super awkward lol so I'll just say I'm glad to know of another one that made it home. Best of luck with your retirement, hope ya enjoy it

This song hits me hard every time. I am a disabled veteran, 15 Years in the Army spent a few tours in Iraq and was there in Iraq in 2003 during that initial push. I suffer from PTSD, Anxiety and depression and cant work anymore. Its sad to see how Veterans are treated now a days. My father is also a veteran of the Army and did time in Vietnam. He also suffers from PTSD and has Parkinson's due to his subjection to the Agent Orange they used over there. Vietnam vets got treated even worse than the rest of us have. We loose 22 veterans a day to suicide. That's 22 to many. I was almost one of them. I cant enjoy the one most favorite thing I loved as a kid, Fireworks on fourth of July. Lots of others are even worse. If your a Vet and are struggling please get help some how some way. Talk to someone, anyone. You are worth more than you know. My Mother spent 8yrs in the Marines during Vietnam and almost killed herself because she fought the government for 22yrs to get the disability she deserved from her service which caused her to be partially paralyzed.
When my Mother finally came home a group of "hippies" were waiting at the bus stop and saw my Mother's uniform, my Grandparent's has just used most of their saving to buy her a nice heavy winter coat. These "hippies" proceeded to spit at her, kick her, call her a baby killer and dumped a 5 gallon bucket of pig's blood over her head drenching her to the bone.
In that moment she decided to dedicate the rest of her life to make sure she would move heaven and earth alone if need be to get her brother's and sister's who had none and nothing help.
I feel privileged to have seen with my own eyes the true price of war. Everything from ppl suffering, forgotten, in agony dying from agent orange. I've talked to POW's held in bamboo cages and the thing's that were done to them. I saw a widow fight 25yrs to clear her "AWOL" husband's name and come back to bury the only physical remain left of his body a 3 inch piece of jaw bone.
The names carved on the black granite wall are the names of 58,000 men who our country knowingly left behind.
I love my country, but it's the Politicians who pull the strings and make back door deals that I hate.

When you see a veteran just shake their hand if you can, say “thank you Sir or Mam”. No need to talk a lot or offer high praises, a quiet word of thanks and a small act of kindness (a beer at the bar, taking a shopping cart back to a stall for them, helping them reach something, a simple handshake) goes a really long way. My dad is a Vietnam veteran, 3 combat tours in country. I love him to pieces, every time someone shakes his hand or welcomes him home, especially when they welcome him home, it’s like a tiny piece of his spirit comes back to life inside him. If you see a Vietnam Vet, the greatest gift you can give them is a good handshake and a genuine “Welcome home soldier”, many of them have never heard those words. They got sent off to die, and then came home hated, discriminated against, spat on, people even threw human waste on them.
