My Uncle was in the Desert Storm as well :( He came home different, his wife divorced him while he was over there, so in the end he moved in with me and Grandma and Grandpa (they raised me). It became nights of being woken by horrifying screams and shouting, but I love him and would do it again to help if I could. I was in my early teens when all this was happening. :(
I fought in OIF 3 times and OEF once as an 11B - I list friends in combat, but ive lost more to suicide. Those hurt more.

I want to thank you for this viewing. I am an Iraqi war veteran and fight for reason to live everyday. I am 70% disabled and trying to get to 100%. PTSD, and anxiety, depression are all to real to combat veterans. So this message needs to be heard loud and clear.

So very very sorry. Please seek therapy specifically for PTSD and if you find it, don’t give up. One of my most dearest friends was 100 % disabled by 1990 with PTSD from combat in Vietnam. He’s been thru hell and it took a long f*****g time, but today, he has peace on a level that he thought he’d never ever be able to have again after he came home so broken, so devestated, so utterly lost and confused. He can actually let himself love again today and has a few friends lucky enough to be worthy of it. I am, myself, so very honored and proud to be included on his short list as he has kept me around for nearly 40 years and I’m only one out of 3 who has been allowed in his life consistently all this time. Now, he has moved forward and made a few more new friends, not acquaintances as he calls most people, that he can easily say he has come to love and even show that fierce loyalty to that combat vets have like no other. Thanks for everything. I am so sorry that something so noble and honorable comes at such a sacrifice for you and all who make it back home. If only is but a dream. Please hang in there, don’t be so damned hard on yourself, and give yourself every damned chance and effort to rebuild your life into one where you will know peace and actually feel some happiness again. No, what was once possible before you served is no longer possible. What I mean is that you can never realize or be who you were before you served. You are not him anymore and haven’t been for a long time. That’s ok. Grieve the kid you lost and try to learn to embrace who you’ve become and I don’t mean you just give in to negatives thoughts about yourself. I mean the not so good shit but most importantly, the great stuff about yourself cuz that kind of stuff is still there in you but it gets buried beneath all that ugly crap. Dig that stuff out best as you can and take as long as you must but once you can bring even a sliver to the surface, grab hold and don’t let go of it while you continue to fight for your own humanity and what makes you just as worthy as I am. Much respect and love for you sir and my prayers are for your healing and happiness….

As a 100% disabled vet( U.S Navy 1984-88, I served on an Aircraft Carrier flight deck) I can honestly say that I left myself on the Flightdeck and someone else took my place in my body, and when I got out in 1988 I felt SO alone, seemed NOBODY understood what I was going through, except my father who had his own " Issues" he was dealing with from WW2, but he always understood, I went from sleeping in my truck to owning a House now because I sought " Help" from the VA, but it did not happen overnight
True facts.
This song gets me every time. I'm just a combat-disabled vet's wife, not a vet myself. I've been battling the VA for him for the past decade though. He served for 10 years and wanted to be a lifer. Instead, an ied took out his humvee, and yet he didn't get medically retired; he got chaptered out for not being able to meet physical standards after his "recovery". He's 41 years old, has had 1 back surgery already, had one full knee replacement and the other desperately needs to be done as soon as we can afford for him to be out of work again. The bones in feet are literally breaking and the tendons ripping just from him WALKING now, because his gait is so messed up. His hip is also screwed up and will need to be replaced in a few years. Guess who won't service-connect his feet injuries? Because it's not like his skeleton is all connected or anything, right?! His humvee being blown to bits by an ied and mangling his knees (and creating hundreds of microfractures that never fully healed and created stenosis in his femurs now) hasn't affected the rest of his skeleton at all, right?! No no. That would make too much sense. That tour where his legs were mangled; his pi$$ant crooked "commander" left him and his 2 soldiers who pulled him from the wreckage (he's 6'6" and 290 lbs) for dead. They spent 3 days in enemy territory before they made it back to the fob. They had to interpret MIA/presumed dead letters sent to their families because the commander lied to cover his a$$ and said he saw them dead but couldn't recover them. (Yeah, the commander got court-martialed later, but that didn't help my husband then; he chaptered my husband out instead of medically retiring him). My husband did 5 tours, and saw combat several times. Iraq and Afghanistan among them. 10 freaking years. He has terrible ptsd. He has tinnitus, and is partially deaf. But the VA won't service connect his hearing loss (despite the fact that his tinnitus is connected!) because he's "not deaf enough yet". They don't give a flying rat's a$$. They don't care how he can't go anywhere crowded, that I wake up and count his shaking/twitching and know by now when I need to move out of the way, or when it's safe to wake him. How I know exactly which seat he needs to sit in even in relatives' homes, because he's already clocked every entrance/exit and is on edge; how certain smells/sounds/sights trigger him. How all of that made his own grandfather's 21 gun salute at Arlington one of the hardest things he's ever had to do since he's been out, and how I glued myself to his side so he could feel me and remember that he was present, and not where his brain was trying to trick him into thinking he was. They don't care that he's in pain every day. They don't give a crap that he's the sweetest man who never complains. Who would give you the shirt off his back if he thought you needed it more. Who loves our kids and me so much, but is so damn tired of fighting to get the help he needs. I happen to be one stubborn protective b*tch though. It's taken us a decade of fighting the VA to get him over 30%. I don't care if it takes another decade. Or 2. Or 3. The VA WILL give him the help he deserves. Because he EARNED it. And I'm not ever giving up. They'll eventually give in because they'll get tired of me riding their a$$. I'm actually a pretty quiet person, but if I have to be a squeaky wheel to get my husband help, so be it. I'll be loudest mf-ing wheel within 500 miles. The VA needs to step it up. There are all too many vets like my husband.

But it's my husband who is suffering and needs help, and the VA just keeps being the broken machine it is. Like I said, I'm all too willing to jump in and knock heads together until someone gives in though. They WILL help him. I don't care how I get labeled in the process.

Being a disabled combat veteran with PTSD life is a MAJOR tasking. After I got out it was very hard to get someone to listen. It took @ 10 years plus to get some type of medical attention. Sad thing is ever day @ 21 veterans take their life. Coming home I have noticed that few people care about veterans or military in general. Look around who flies the American flag 🇺🇸. Not that many!!! I’m glad I got the family and friends that keep me going!!! It’s HARD!!!

Man but this gave me chills. A man I've called one of my best friends for nearly 40 years is a Vietnam vet. 100% disabled in late 1985 with PTSD. Ive watched him struggle, suffer, and even triumph on his personal journey after he first set foot in Vietnam as an innocent young barely 17 y/o boy with aspirations to become a “warrior“ for america. Unfortunately, he didn't stay innocent for long and saw and did things he could not ever talk about for many, many years and after much intense therapy. I'm so happy to say he has come such a long way that he can now let himself love other people although he remains very selective and they are always people he eventually knows he can trust because they haven some way proven worthy of his loyalty. Yes, the number is few but one doesnt need a bunch of lip service friends hanging around. He is my #100 hero and the most genuine and realest person I've ever met. I am so honored to have been one of those few in his life and it's a source of price in myself as one of my most cherished accomplishments in my life. That he findscme worthy says so damned much cuz folks, vets don’t come home after living the untold horrors of combat in war with a happy, loving heart full of rays of sunshine. They are utterly mentally and emotionally destroyed to the point they cannot feel comfortable anywhere, anytime, with anybody at least until after years and years of therapy if they’re lucky. “So thank you for your service” simply is not enough but it’s all I can say to all you vets because it’s all I have except my love and respect for all of you who have served to defend my freedom, to keep America safe. May God bless all of you despite whatever hell you have endured or continue to suffer. You guys have an integrity, a soul so rich that us civilians and even some service members will never ever have any hope of realizing in ourselves. Your hearts and souls are so damned real, genuine, loyal, just so damned admirable that I cannot say enough about how you guys really are hero’s in all that it means. I love you all and I hope and pray that you all find some sense of peace in your lives despite it all. Thank you is just not enough. Much love and respect……

I HATE that you call yourself JUST a vetern's wife. You have a vetern's 6 when he may feel his MOST valnerable, as he falls asleep (I say he, because vets are historicaly male). I am proud to be a Vietnam's vets daughter, the wife of a Desert Storm combat vet, the great grand niece of a WWII vet that helped liberate Europe, a WWI army Air Corpse bombadere(sp?) & a descendant of Little Bighorn, & Gettysburg combatant. Family scuttle but is Catholic progenitor, sold himself to an English noble to protect & feed his family & was shipped to the colonies to oversee the nobleman investments.

My father in law served in Korea, And Vietnam flew helicopter to pick up wounded ,flew gunner too. When 9-11 happened he tried to go back in , they said he was to old for combat. He has PTSD but won’t admit it. He still has nightmares about being shot down. Thank you all for your service and sacrifices you did for me .

I'm just seeing your reaction to this, and sir, you are so very right on so many things you said. I believe that any soldier, regardless of what does or does not happen to this soldier, who they are when they leave does die. Who comes back is a kind of a shell of a person until they come to terms with themselves and what they had to endure. They must then learn to love the themselves again. This does not always happen. I thank servicemen and women when I can. I would so much like to be able to get a home for every military homeless person, i want them know that not everyone has forgotten them and not all Americans are unappreciative. Thanks to all servicemen and women for the freedom you have provided to me. May God bless you.

@@v3tReacts There are several veterans and active military members in my family, I gave it serious thought. It came down to the fact that I wasn't sure if I could kill another person. Now that I'm older (by many decades), now I don't think that I would have any issues with that. The freedom that you all fought so hard for, i fear is in so much jeopardy now. I'm not sure if I was just so innocent when I was younger and I could not see the ugly political beast or that times were really that different then. I remember my uncle coming back from Vietnam, I was only 5, but I think that is when it really started the downside. I told a friend the other day that I thought our nations patriotism started faltering when our government decided to bully their own, take from their own rather than bully other countries and overthrowing their government. The year 2020, it only showed me just how many sheeples there are in this world. Its a domestic enemy in the midst.
Just need to say you both (and everyone that served over there) are in my thoughts and prayers!!

This speaks volumes. I'm a vet with 7 years of service with the royal tank regiment (British army) crewmen in the Challenger 2 and 2 tours of Afghanistan. I remember our coming home parade, where we were heckled and spat at by a gathering of Muslims who supported the brotherhood. I never killed an innocent civilian myself, and our crew was always getting into shite, whether it be rocket propelled grenades or suicide bombers in cars trying to take us out. I lost a good amount of friends in Afghanistan. I absolutely agree that you leave a piece of yourself over there. I was officially diagnosed with complex PTSD and borderline personality disorder 2 years ago, so I understand better than most, and our government fucks us all the time.
God bless our vets. Please ask for help if you need it. We love you more than you know.

A Veteran is someone, who at one point in their life, wrote a blank check payable to the United States of America for an amount up to, and including, their life.
They never cashed it nor did they reimburse the veteran for this honor we gave to our country.
Regardless of personal political views, that is an Honor and there are way too many people in this country who no longer remember that fact.

I'm not a veteran but it doesn't mean I don't recognize how much a veteran has done for us for our country, and the first time I saw this video I cried as most times I see it.

I feel the same way we are good when we are needed but when they say we’re not needed anymore they forget we even where there
I know this one would be hard, but we asked you veterans to do harder things in the past. This song does do a good job of shinning a spotlight on these issues, as a dependent, thank you.
Yeah there's definitely people out there that don't have family in the military or know anyone that served in the military. Yeah there's definitely people who take the sacrifice so many make for granted.
But there's also so many who understand and respect especially some of us who have family friends who served in the military or who are currently serving in the military who have seen first-hand what PTSD and it's not even PTSD it's just the fact that you come back a different person. And for your family and friends they see you as who you were but you changed and for a lot of families it's harder to deal with
And just hearing from people who have served they said a big reason they were able to adjust as much as you can back into civilian life was there support system.
Which is why it's heartbreaking to see these men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice either with their life or leaving loved ones or kids behind to serve their country.
Love and respect to all the veterans who have served our country and ones who are currently serving.
I'm sorry that so many take our veterans and current men and women serving for granted.

I'm a disabled Gulf War Vet and did 3 more tours in the desert. I know I'm not the same. Even though this is true, I had close friends that didn't make it back at all.

I was in the Coast Guard in the 1980s and didn't see combat. But I was fortunate enough to be on a ship where those who set the tone on that ship determined that the measure of a man was how well they had their shit together and if they could be trusted to figure out what to do when all hell was breaking loose and there was no one around to tell them what to do. Color or race didn't matter. Yeah, there were "some" people who preferred the company of their own race off duty, but onboard, everyone knew who the dependable ones were. I think that being in that environment did a lot to make people or all races involved see what was really important... and the color of your skin wasn't a factor.

My family was all military I grew up military and I have fought for our Brave Heroes to get care....I currently work with a Marine Col and even through him it's so hard because of Politicians BullShiT*. It's our responsibility to look out for and care for our Military Veterans. They gave and died for me and they never knew my name. God Bless you for getting this out for our Veterans they need us.

For all my brothers and sisters out there... The 10 commandments says thou shall not commit murder... NOT thou shall not kill. Killing is necessary at times. Killing an enemy who is trying to kill you is not wrong. Killing without cause is murder. Defending yourself and your fellow soldiers does not make you a murderer. It does not make killing for any reason feel better but you are not guilty of sin.

I believe that a missing point of the video is that only 1 in 4 vets succeed in the civilian world post service. They deserve more than they will ever receive....and it is a tragedy!
