Thanks for the informative videos. Very clear, concise. My 2013 i30 has vvt noise on startup. Takes about a minute to go away. Engine runs perfectly once warm. I’ll check and clean solenoids first. Hopefully that will fix the issue
I just replaced the VVt gears, solenoids, and chains on our Kia 3.3 v6. I found the dowel pin on the intake VVT sheared out of the gear and stuck in the cam, the VVt was out enough to cause a cam allocation fault. I extracted the pin out of the cam, installed new timing chain components now it's like a new engine again - with well over 150 k miles.
Went to a local auto repair they said the reason why my engine light is on is because the vvt solenoid is faulty but the couldn’t fix it as they don’t have the right tools. All dealerships near are BACKLOGGED. We’re talking about 45 days or more just to get my car diagnosed and then another waiting for the actual repair.

Nice explanation. Took my car to Toyota Dealership for disappearing coolant- no leaks and P00012 ck engine light code. Pressure tested radiator with no visible leaks, buy didn't pressure test the engine for possible head gasket leak, but saying VVTi timing off and need a new gear, o rings and valve cover gasket $$$. No oil leaks, no rough idle, no stalling. Blowing smoke from exhaust so will request engine pressure test, and ask if recall on ECM could be causing any timing issues. Just relying on a code for diagnostics, or can he confirm how the VVT i gear was diagnosed for replacement. Changed the oil and code cleared, then reappeared when coolant level dropped. If coolant in engine (non seen and did not check spark plugs to see if any in valves) could cause engine damage. If not addressed, expensive VVTi gear replacement for nothing.

I have a p0014 code on my saturn aura 3.6l runs strong doesn't feel sluggish like you described it but I do hear a slight rattle for 2 seconds. I already replaced vvt solenoids 2 only for bank 2 and 3 of 4 camshaft position sensor, I couldn't reach one but needless to say, should I be really worried it doesn't stall doesn't rough idle It feels like it's not turned on at the light but I do need to fix my ticket noise wha5 do yall suggest
My Kia 1.4L Gamma engine has some kind of rattling noise on low throttle, but it goes away when I add more throttle, could it be a vvt issue or more likely knocking/detonation, or something else? Also the noise only comes when the engine is warm. I've been hearing the noise for at least a couple of years (have had the car for 3 years).

Insurance co said they are not paying for it because of lack of maintenance on my part. I had synthetic oil changes but they were not satisfied. So I went to another mechanic who did the tensioner work but they said there is another problem with the exhaust vvt sprocket. I am paying out of pocket and now my check engine light is coming on, code PO303. My car is a Hyundai Elantra Limited 2017. Would the sprocket issue be related to the tensioner issue?
I seems reasonable for low oil pressure to cause idle issues. With low oil pressure, the VVT may not adjust quick enough. Maybe enough pressure to turn out the dash light, but not enough to keep the VVT adjusting quickly enough?
Having many of the same issues on my 15 Hyundai Elantra. P0017 code, replaced all sensors related. Finally took it to dealer for their advice, and they informed me 4 mechanics were looking at it & couldn’t figure out the issue. Rough idle, gutless when passing or climbing a hill, hard starting and will bog out after starting sporadically.

Yeah the sensor depends on them. And if they are faulty, the sensor cannot report to the computer. And since the computer cannot communicate mechanically, only communicate with sensors via electronics, the computer would just blame the sensor for not sensing anything.
Have a new engine in Tucson g4nc I have new chain tensioner guides and new vvt gears and new vvti solenoids when I remove foot of the accelerator and loud rattle near chain and stalls iv tried everything please help
This is a GEMA engine a collaboration between Hyundai, Chrysler and Mitsubishi. They split costs on development the Mitsubishi and Chrysler are closer in relation but some parts do cross over between the three.
