I know this comments coming a little later. I have a 2015 kia soul throwing a p0017. It had a code for a knock sensor, replaced the knock sensor and then the p0017 got thrown. The engine ticks on the right and left side of the engine rhythmically. I’m thinking it’s a gunky camshaft, but idk
mine had bad exhaust phaser took off valve cover, tired moving exhaust Cam, sure enough it rotated freely out of sync with timing assembly. if you go this route don't use a lot of force to move cam bc your turning engine with basically the cam shaft. just enough force to see if free spins and if free spins do not start car afterwards the valves may be damaged. codes p0017, drove like this for a while. i got lucky. about $2000 repair at shop
hi, great video, I have a Elantra 2019 2.0 L and have had the engine light on for more than a year now. both code P0017 and P0014. Car runs fine but I can tell it is a little bit sluggish, some time buckles for couple of second while idling. No noise from the engine. I have shown the car to few mechanics , timing chain, sprockets and solenoids seem to be the culprits. Only thing I have done was to change the ex solenoid and it did not help. any advise?
Yes , that could be the pin on exhaust side slightly off. You could not see it, you should take timing chain out and unbolte camshaft faser . There’s a pin holding camshafts and faser . That’s most problems could be .

Is this something covered under 100,000 mile warranty, my engine light came on, car still runs, but rough.. could it be something else if my car still runs? Like the sensor? The oil change person said he disconnected something and reconnect and the light went off and the ran fine, I drove it 30 miles, light came on again and the car started running rough again.
Hello, good night, I have a problem, Elantra 2017 has the same code, remove the cap of the butt and notice that the chain is stretched, the car doesn’t turn on for anything that you recommend me to change the entire time kit? And how do I know that I don’t double the valve? Some cylinders have 90 psi and another 65
Need your help, 2012 Elantra, i just replaced the Timing Chain and the tensioner a week ago, still have a chatter when it start and the car turns over for 10-15 sec before starting. Finally got a code P0016. Any idea? Also, forgot to mention when i installed the tensioner and pull the release, the tensioner didn't pop out. I had to prime it, was that a mistake.
greetings brother, I would like to know what parts you replaced and additional also please tell me the code p0014 that should be checked and replaced. I have a 2018 Hyundai Elantra SEL. Thanks in advance.
Yes first check chanshaft sensor , after check vvt solenoid if all good go and check camshaft , the most of the time the key brook door camshaft and gear , twist
Also, i changed my timing chain, guides, tensioner and both cam gears. I swore i timed everything properly, but when the same engine code p0017 is thrown with engine light. Then last night, though my engines performance is still sluggish, it randomly started running normal for about an hour. Throttle response was on point. But now today, its back to how it was. I already replaced my exhaust solenoid. Any ideas?
My engine damaged a valve guide, it was solved in the store, put everything back in, just change the tensioner and I have this problem p0017, change the sensor and nothing, do you think it's the stretched chain?
I think could be the facer turned . If you open the facer of the camshaft the exhaust side and check the key goes between camshaft and gear , I mean facer of camshaft. Let me know if you need more details please.
I dont know if ypure still reading these but i have a 2017 kia forte my girl ran low on oil with. It threw a p0014 and p0017 along with some misfires. I replaced the exhaust side vvt solenoid and camshaft sensor and got rid of the p0014 and misfires but still habe a persistent p0017. I still get average 33 to 35 mpg. It my crankshaft sensor clogged or the vvt filter? And if worse comes to worse is it my camshaft itself?
@autotech9043 ok the exhaust camshaft phaser pin. That may be as the code went away for 2 weeks then came back. Its either that or i think its the camshaft vvt sprocket.
