It's practically a must these days to have backing tracks. Most venues are set up this way and everyone should be able to take advantage of it. I don't have an issue with it. And not all of them are using it in place of actual playing. I think this is where the issue comes in. These older bands like this have always gone on stage and actually played instruments. But let's face it, as they get older they may lose some of their talent.

One thing I have noticed about the entire KISS camp over the years... I'm pretty sure they all have a "trash talk to the press" agreement where "There's no such thing as bad press." It seems like they all use it every time there's some new release, event, whatever. Remember a few years ago when Ace's girlfriend was supposedly molested by Gene or some such thing? Yeah, that story vanished, never to be heard from again. Coincidentally, it just happened to be reported not long after the Spaceman album came out which Gene was credited as writing for and playing on. This idea goes WAY back. In The Evolution of KISS booklet that came with Alive II, the band declared, "KISS is loved...or hated...but never ignored." That is exactly what we are seeing today. They are quite simply writing their own press. The public, the fans, the reporters... none of us know the true personalities. It's all just a big facade to generate curiosity.

Paul talked about that in his book too. He said that one thing he learned from Gene was that also bad publicity is still publicity. And I am saying this as a huige Kiss fan even nowadays (but without supporting some little thing, you can never support everything about your favourite artist right? Like I support the EOTR but wanna fck the whole Dubai packages shit).I think that's the whole reason why KISS get's a lot of hate but never looses any of their fanbase or whatsoever. Thanks for this comment! Now I finnally understand it all how it all works and why Paul for example said fck you Ace🤣🤣
Even if I don't think that there is a agreement with Ace. I do think that there is an agreement among the band so tommy paul eric and Gene

I was working with a co-headline act that was booked with Ace for one show back in the early 2010s and he was absolutely sober. In fact the venue told us in advance when we sent over our rider that any alcohol on our rider wouldn’t be provided due to Aces camp not allowing alcohol in any acts dressing room. It was a one off gig in the middle of a bunch of other shows so we weren’t too worried about it. Again this was years ago so I have no idea if that’s still the case but it for sure was when the band I worked was on that bill. I’m not a big Kiss or Ace fan, but I watched his set, not my thing, but he played just fine and there wasn’t a drop of alcohol to be found anywhere near the backstage or dressing room areas. As a neutral observer, I think Gene and Paul are just pricks and can’t stand to see Ace have any ounce of success. I also think Ace is too worried about what they think and just doesn’t let things go and move on.

A very measured take man. Good thoughts. To me, I suspect his producer and loyal Frehely-Fan filled in whatever the song needed to glue things together and make it pop while Ace threw him a whole bunch of rough ideas and riffs and some loose themes
I think Ace wants it recognized that both it was his vision and that he added more than just his flavor to the record. I suspect he tracked something cool from time to time, but imagine Steve was always his safety net.

Many of the songs are older, Fightin For Life was a Psycho-Circus demo
that got rejected. Remember Ace submitted 6-7 songs, they only used
Into The Void. Those 6 songs are on 10,000 volts. All original vocals were
left as-is, only the music was touched up, also songs from 1995 and 1984
are here as well. On the tracks where Ace is singing strong & fast, those are
the older tunes. Walkin on the moon, 10,000 volts & Cherry Medicine are new

10,000 Volts is a great album. It’s easy to hear the 70s music scene (rock and pop) that has so influenced Ace over the years in several of the tracks (eg, Walkin’ on the Moon, Cherry Medicine).
Individual track-wise… 10,000 Volts and especially Fightin’ for Life are the two big standouts. Either of those would have been huge hits back in the MTV days of the 80s. Cherry Medicine is a fun song that sounds like it could have been on the Get Him to the Greek soundtrack (which is not a bad thing… the songs on that soundtrack were actually very good and fun). Anyway, Ace was so adamant before the album’s release as to what a significant role Steve’s collaboration had on the music, both from a production and song-writing perspective. So I’m sure Steve was indeed very instrumental (no pun intended) in the final product. It just sounds like in their excitement for how well it’s been received (and it has!) that they didn’t have their ducks in a row has to publicly discuss their collaborative effort. Doesn’t matter, the two of them together created a great rock album that sounds and feels like Ace at his best… and that’s what matters in the end. Honestly, it’s probably Ace’s best solo effort yet, on the whole. And 10,000 Volts and Fightin’ for Life are as good as anything he’s done since Shock Me!

I grew up a big KISS fan... Big Ace fan... Have played guitar for several decades... Anyone who has seen Ace live in the last number of years should be able to tell there is no way Ace is playing the majority of the guitars on that record. Solos (or "the majority" of the solos as Ace said) sure. But the whole record sounds totally like Steve. I am sure Ace had a few ideas and maybe some older things he wanted worked out but get real, the bulk of that album is totally Steve. In a recent interview with Eddie Trunk Ace couldn't tell you the names of the musicians on the record (probably because he wasn't there when they recorded, let me guess, at Steve's). In another recent interview I heard he asked what album "Shock Me" was on... He said Steve was asked unrehearsed questions and that's why he said that? My guess is Steve was hearing countless interviews where Ace was talking about all the stuff Ace did and Steve wanted to give him a bit of a hip check...

  • @JeffMcCormack777
    @JeffMcCormack777 7 місяців тому +3

You commented that Ace can play at a high level, because he still tours and all. But, have you seen him play recently? I saw him last Aug, and knowing he had a new album in the works, I walked away from the show wondering how the heck he would record a new album the way he was sloshing around on the stage. He was clearly inebriated, slurring his speech, and just overall performing at a low quality overall. His band had the incredibly hard job of keeping things together (as a drummer myself, I felt most for the drummer who had to constantly adjust tempo and adjust the beat in order to keep things somewhat in sync).
I love Ace, and am enjoying the new album, it is a great one. But after seeing him live, I seriously question how he performed on this record at all, so find it no surprise if his involvement was less than is being stated.

Look, I absolutely love this, he's part of the original band in their original sound. And he is absolutely fabulous. However he's demonstrated numerous times over the years, he's unreliable and undependable, he gets high, misses rehearsals, misses studio sessions, has quit (or been fired) from the band numerous times, because it's just too high and unreliable. Say what you will about bad members like Eric singer, Bruce kulick or Tommy Taylor, but they have always been hard working, totally reliable, and dedicated professionals. It's too bad that Ace didn't have the same Work ethic or philosophy, and that his substance abuse, and irratic behaviour was his ultimate downfall. I still love the guy though,. But if I were Paul or gene I would feel the exact same way as well.

Watch the "Shock me" solo lesson, he recently gave, and the ability to play even the most basic
guitar licks, are completely disconnected from his brain & fingers.
There is simply no way his amp is turned on, during live performance.
