I like them because the eye where the line ties on keeps the jig level, and the hook curves up, so if it drags over a branch in the water it will not hook it a lot of the time. I don't like that they are so light it's hard to cast it out very far. I'll get one of those weighted bobbers and try that.
I bought a ton of them after seeing some youtube videos. Never caught anything with them in my homewater. Although i think with that weighter float they may fish better than with the float trout magnet sells specifically to be used with those micro jigs.
I had never used a trout magnet in my life, then after watching this video tried using them in a stream in West Virginia...caught two personal best rainbows!! Y’all have taught me a lot about trout fishing. Thanks!
I’ve watched dozens of their vids. I love how they always run through and re-educate me on the basics. It’s like shooting free throws before a game or stopping in to the pro shop to work on my swing.
Thank you for mentioning cutting the extra line into the tackle box. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen people just toss their broken lines into the water...
I love Trout and Panfish Magnets. That same brown color he is using here has worked great for me. I have caught trout, bass, crappie, bluegills/panfish, and catfish on them in bodies of water from small community fishing lakes and ponds, to creeks and rivers. I use a smaller unweighted bobber and an ultra-light setup.
I use these all the time! Favorite color is white! And I almost always hook just the tiniest price of worm on the hook! Absolute killer! I’d give a little advice though, that bobber looked a little bit to big, I’d recommend the trout magnet bobber, always done good for me
If your having issues with you hook set, flip you bobber... Old timer showed me it crappie fishing years ago, made all the difference in the world. Also adds alittle more side action if you do any twitching with the magnet coming off the lead free end.. Proved equally effective with trout
Been using these forever, most of the time, it's all I carry when fishing a stream. Rarely ever use the bobbers though, I usually just cast and retrieve at a steady rate twitching the line with my finger.
They are called "crappie jigs" in the Southern US. Love the idea of using the cork for presentation in a small stream. We have a variety of good eating fish in our small streams and i cant wait to try this one them. Great tip thanks!
I use trout magnets all the time and caught probably thousands of fish off of it. But I have never used it on a bobber, just on 2 or 4 lb mono. Maybe I will try it the right way some time
I agree with you 100% on the Weighted Foam Cigar Bobber, I only use those bobbers(unless im going for catfish/bowfin) because while resting vertically its easiest to differentiate between types of bites. Also because of sleek shape it gives little resistance to a fish pulling it under, so you almost never get fish spitting out before you set the hook. Also love how easily they move in the water, so you can use them for fresh bait or artificial.
Used these with crazy success. Newly opened stocked pond, I arrived late and still caught the first 2 fish over 30 other people. Also, for flouro, I recommend the San Diego jam knot. It is tested and proven to be one of the few that can keep the full test weight on the line with better over every knot.
These are my Favorite little jig ever! We use the trout magnet bobbers too. They are tiny and work well with our 4lb test. They slay in lakes rivers and streams. Been fishing them for the last 5 years. If we are not trolling we were throwing them. Shad love them too
I suggested these to you all a while back after watching your top methods for catching trout vid. I fish Em under a bobber. Over 200 trout in a day with them. Catch everything with them too. 6 species in a day many times. Thanks for the video!
My nephews love using that thing. They catch everything on it. Bass, bluegill, crappie, yellow perch, and of course trout. When the big boys aren't biting, they'll put the magnet on and start catching the smaller fish.
I have used these for around 15 years, most effective with rainbows in WV. We used to steelhead fish in Erie, PA and had alot of success with gold colored bodies...even on days where nothing else worked, we caught them with gold and pink trout magnets. We also straight jigged (no float) and found the steelhead were much more aggressive toward the magnet. The straight jigging only worked well in the less rough or almost still water. I have a trout magnet kit in every vest and box.
Just picked trout magnets and glad I found your site. Learned how to use them. I fish salt and fresh water. Use spinning and fly rods for both. Will try them on fly rod. Enjoyed vid.
Never had much luck with these magnets. Used pink and I think I used yellow. Like Marlin says at the end works best where there's plenty of fish lol yeah that's about right
One of my favorite fish! I use a fly rod with a floating, Knudsen Spider in yellow or black, and a strip retrieve on the surface. But they will also hammer small spinners on the surface, which is what I have my nephews use. Hopefully WDFW won't screw us over on the season next summer because it was closed until Sept 16 this year.
I wrap floss on the jig hook shank, apply super glue to the thread floss, then slide the plastic body in place to keep the body secure. Another way is to apply a dab of hot melt glue to the hook shank, then slide the magnet body on over the shank and glue dollup so the magnet body will grip better and stay in place after a strike. A third way is to use a UV light and the special super glue that is activated by the UV light. Do this at home and you will find you can spend more time fishing and less time fussing with baiting your hooks.
I use them for panfish trout bass steelhead and even surf perch. They are deadly when twitched like your twitchin for salmon same concept. I've used them float fishing fishing for skinny water steel. You can also use the jig heads and pair them with 3 inch power worms and swim and twitch them back and or use a float for trout in creeks rivers or lakes.
Good video. ..I prefer the actual little Trout Magnet bobbers best easy on off and no line friction from sliding them through metal loops of the other types...just my opinion
I thought u were always supposed to close the bale before reeling back in? I never see this guy do this. At 10:15 it looks like missed the bite soley because of this?
That bobber... so many in my city can afford the penny bobber and it gets so many fishing. That’s good. I’m sure it helps promote connection to nature and a sense of conservation when stepping over spent Cheetos bags. It’s just that it’s the most common lead + foam bobber I find downriver in the snags.. Glad your mustad redesign is moving toward balsa. Balsa not only fishes better but is better for the river.
Trout magnets are best on tiny streams just like that. The kids can catch lots of sunnies, crappies, large and smallmouth bass, perch. Everyone loves it
i like your presentation, and that you know how to work the river! I am new to Utah and there are lots of rivers and lakes, they stock trout all over the place! fishing for trout is crazy good! thanks for the tip on the magnet - never used it before but will give it a try!
Love trout magnets - I stick with natural colors 90% of the time, and go to chartreuse the other 10%. I've tried the pink stuff, and the double colors, but the single color naturals (brown, pumpkin green, black, white, and smoke) outfish the wild stuff by far. Being in Oregon, we have to be careful which streams you use these on, because most streams have bait bans, and Oregon in its infinite wisdom sees soft plastics like these as "bait" and not a lure, so I don't fish these in streams much except in a handful that allow bait fishing. They work really well on trout in those streams - but they work even better targeting bluegill, crappie, and yellow perch in ponds and lakes. I typically fish 2 or 4lb line or a 2-4lb bumper with 10lb braid, and I fish a two-jig setup with different color bodies on each jig, 12-18 inches apart. I usually use Thill's quill type floats, or the smallest Aero float, pinching on a couple BB shot if necessary for balance. Drift fishing like this - you don't really need to add any action - the current will jiggle the setup plenty - think of it like a fly fisherman drifting nymphs or wet flies. For pond/lake fishing I cast, let it sit, twitch, and pause. This is a killer setup for trout in the high mountain lakes too. Best trout I've caught on these was an 18 inch cuttie that actually came out of Takenitch down on the central coast, but I've done really well in the coast range mountain lakes and some up on Mt. Hood on the typical 10-14 inch fish. When the fish are hungrier, Leland makes the larger "Crappie Magnet" which is the same lure just upsized and fished on 1/32 or 1/16th ounce heads.
You’re in my sneaker catch and release native steelie spot! They poke in and hold there when the waters high on the big river. No tellum where it is but it’s one of my favorite secrets when all else fails
Great Video. I use the Mini-Trout Magnet for fly rod and it has become my favorite for trout fishing. Only suggestion is your strike indicator. Try AirLock because they are so much easier to attach and adjust than the one you were using. Adds greatly to the easy of changing depths. GREAT VIDEO!!
5/6 years ago I was following My husband up the River (I don't fish) I happen to see a orange thing hung on a rock. Got it unhung and had a trout magnet (We had never seen one) Passed it to husband- he used it and Bam within 2 hours he had daily limit 😁
I just fished the ca sierras for the trout opener and used a 1/64 ounce jig head and just cheap bass pro crappie max grubs in pink and slayed harder than anyone using bait! Plus they are lipped everytime so I released hundreds of stockers over 6 days. Had a fly guy tell me “it’s not hard to catch these planters” while he caught one to my ten fish. He walked off after that. Lol. Oh the trick was using a bobber. Everyone with me thought I was nuts but by mid day the first day of fishing everyone was using one.
I've caught some nice trout with trout magnets. Not a fan of the bobber but have used it. I prefer using 2lb mono on an ultra light rig. I lightly bump it as I reel in slowly. It is deadly even web others aren't catching
I started fishing with my dad 53 year’s ago, started with a bobber .. Dad has passed , it doesn’t mater how old yu get . Fishing with a bobber is excellent..
I got the panfish magnet it’s basically the same thing I’ve caught just about every panfish you can imagine on them I’ve caught bass in them theses things are great
Who uses trout magnets? 🤷♂️
Learn how to fish them in lakes & ponds here: ua-cam.com/video/U2PFirX_RXI/v-deo.html

I love them
I do a lot actually. Caught a bunch of small mouth as well as trout on those in small streams and creeks here in W. Wa.
I like them because the eye where the line ties on keeps the jig level, and the hook curves up, so if it drags over a branch in the water it will not hook it a lot of the time. *yanks ultralight rod like he's pulling a marlin out of the deep sea*
"How did I miss that one??"
He loved every single comment but this one... 😂😂😂
Lmfao. That’s me this season..... little hot on the yank 🙄. I’ve gotten some good ones though.
Been using Trout Magnets for 2 years now, come home with fish almost every time, even on dead days, I catch at least 2 small ones.
Where r the pics
Thank you for mentioning cutting the extra line into the tackle box. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen people just toss their broken lines into the water...

Yep! White is my go to as well with the trout magnet bobber. Also Bubble Gum, Bison, and Purple Haze.
If your having issues with you hook set, flip you bobber... Old timer showed me it crappie fishing years ago, made all the difference in the world. Also adds alittle more side action if you do any twitching with the magnet coming off the lead free end.. Proved equally effective with trout
Side note: these work really well on just about every fish, crappie, bluegill/sunfish, and small bass
Addicted Fishing gave me all the info I need, since watching I pulled in 3 Trout and 2 nice sized bass. Within 10 days after watching videos.
Love Trout Magnets. Even got some small mouths with them this summer from my kayak. Thanks for sharing.
I just bought my first rod and reel as an adult, and these magnets caught my eye. I can’t wait to try them out.
Been using these forever, most of the time, it's all I carry when fishing a stream. Rarely ever use the bobbers though, I usually just cast and retrieve at a steady rate twitching the line with my finger.

Thanks for all the tips and videos Marlin I really appreciate it as well as the others who are addicted to your Channel. A big shout out to Jordan
I love that rod for twitching jigs for coho in frog water. So much fun
Blacktailbowhunter 01 the ultra light lol
I use Trout and Crappie Magnets. In addition to those fish, other panfish also bite. My favorite bait when I'm using ultralight or even light setups
I saw your comment on Outdoor Chef Life and figured I would check out your site. I'm so glad I did.

I use them all the time. Great lure never hooked deep! Good for all species as well. Great lure and company
I suggested these to you all a while back after watching your top methods for catching trout vid. I fish Em under a bobber. Over 200 trout in a day with them. Catch everything with them too. 6 species in a day many times. Thanks for the video!
30 size reel seems a bit heavy..but larger arbors cast further..I'm running 500 & 1000 Shimanos ..
Tried this today after seeing the video. Hit my first trout in a river. Thanks for the tips.

One of my favorite small lures hands down
Love seeing these videos, would also like to see an ice fishing tutorial this winter
Just picked trout magnets and glad I found your site. Learned how to use them. I fish salt and fresh water. Use spinning and fly rods for both. Will try them on fly rod. Enjoyed vid.
I use the "Crappie Magnets" which are just slightly larger green transparent with speckles. I catch bluegill and bass almost every time
You guys always do make me more and more interested in going fishing!
Now I know how to put a bobber on my line!! Thanks man!
Great video Marlin. Nice tip on catching tag end for peeps who dont think about that!
Those trout magnets are fun to use. For me they work. Love the video guys. Keep it up and keep those videos coming.
Never had much luck with these magnets. Used pink and I think I used yellow. Like Marlin says at the end works best where there's plenty of fish lol yeah that's about right
Awesome video! Slayed some monster trout with your strategy
Another thing I do is always cast upstream! The fast the current the better the action on these baits also. Crappie and bluegill love them also

Thanks for the video. These things are deadly. I just subscribed to your channel. Really like your content
I wrap floss on the jig hook shank, apply super glue to the thread floss, then slide the plastic body in place to keep the body secure. I just landed a cut throat with just the trout magnet jigging it in a creek ! Worked like a charm
just bought this same exact one last night at walmart. can't wait to use it. same color...
I just got a huge pack of trout magnets for Christmas, exited to use them
I use them for panfish trout bass steelhead and even surf perch. They are deadly when twitched like your twitchin for salmon same concept. I've used them float fishing fishing for skinny water steel. You can also use the jig heads and pair them with 3 inch power worms and swim and twitch them back and or use a float for trout in creeks rivers or lakes.
Was using these bream fishing. Ended up with a 3lb bass.
love the magnets very effective all year round
My friend caught a 8 lb channel cat on a trout magnet. They’re good for panfish too
Oh man I can not wait to let my kiddos loose with the trout magnet. Thanks
This guy really enjoys hanging out with Sean
Good video. ..I prefer the actual little Trout Magnet bobbers best easy on off and no line friction from sliding them through metal loops of the other types...just my opinion
I use them for trout, crappie and big bluegill, very versatile bait.
This is a first...something I've not heard of or fished! Yet! 😉
I’ve had great success with them going to use them this weekend
I used trout magnet this last weekend and caught my limite of fish in less than one and a half hour
I use Cabela’s 1-1/2” tubes. They catch trout, crappie, bass, bluegill and even War Mouth
try the Berkley atomic teasers, they are deadly
My name is Shawn and I just bought a trout magnet kit. Thanks so much for making this video just for me 🤣
We catch lake rainbow trout 16-24inch all day long with the magnet. Pink and Chartreuse are the best colors here(wyoming).
I love Okuma too. Great tackle.
I thought u were always supposed to close the bale before reeling back in? I never see this guy do this. At 10:15 it looks like missed the bite soley because of this?
It is deadly bait.. I use them alot. With JDM rod for sensitivity and pair it with Polyester line and shock leader.. killer in all panfish.
Nice info. 12:49 can see one jump out the water behind you. Good stuff.
Used these for years, they work great! 👌🏼🐟
Props to you man, you have some really good information in this video, you deserve many more followers keep up the good work man!!

Go with the small thill float. Nice catch. Thanks for all your vids. It's helped me so much
Trout magnets are best on tiny streams just like that. The kids can catch lots of sunnies, crappies, large and smallmouth bass, perch. Everyone loves it
I caught a 2.3 pound bass and .98 pound bluegill with trout magnet today......so yeah they work
12:50 the trout feeds right where he’s going to cast next and he doesn’t see it! Ha. Nice informative video. Thanks!
i like your presentation, and that you know how to work the river! I am new to Utah and there are lots of rivers and lakes, they stock trout all over the place! fishing for trout is crazy good! thanks for the tip on the magnet - never used it before but will give it a try!
Using this setup today at willow beach in AZ let’s gooo trout life lol
I love trout magnet I have a list of fish species I have caught with them I’m like a species #9 it’s my go to lure
Love trout magnets - I stick with natural colors 90% of the time, and go to chartreuse the other 10%. I've tried the pink stuff, and the double colors, but the single color naturals (brown, pumpkin green, black, white, and smoke) outfish the wild stuff by far.

Gorgeous cutty! Been using trout magnets but haven’t had any success yet. Haven’t given up, though. Still working on it cause I know they eat it up.
Great video. Love how you show the full setup!
I used them. I didn't expect much but it proved its title
Been looking at these. Now I'm going to get these. Great video.
Great Video. I use the Mini-Trout Magnet for fly rod and it has become my favorite for trout fishing. Only suggestion is your strike indicator. Try AirLock because they are so much easier to attach and adjust than the one you were using. Adds greatly to the easy of changing depths. GREAT VIDEO!!
nice recommendation on those airlock strike indicators, they look pretty rad.
5/6 years ago I was following My husband up the River (I don't fish)
I happen to see a orange thing hung on a rock.
Got it unhung and had a trout magnet (We had never seen one) Passed it to husband- he used it and Bam within 2 hours he had daily limit 😁
A water bobber with a dry or wet fly would have worked really good right there too
Nice. Was planning on picking up some of these anyway.
Fantastic video I've been using these for quite some time and love them.
I use them all the time, especially for crappie
SHAWN!! A fish was caught during an informative video, WHAAAA?
Trout magnet guarantees me a fish period. I've never had a bad fishing day with this in my arsenal. My favorite is the half white half light green .
I've caught some nice trout with trout magnets. Not a fan of the bobber but have used it. I prefer using 2lb mono on an ultra light rig. I lightly bump it as I reel in slowly. It is deadly even web others aren't catching
Caught a 36 inch tiger musky on one a few years ago while targeting rainbow trout.
Hell yeah bro o fish em often they do work well. Especially ice fishing. Tight lines.
I was introduced to trout magnet bout 10 yrs ago maybe lil longer than that but we was catching trout when nobody else was catching them
I started fishing with my dad 53 year’s ago, started with a bobber .. Dad has passed , it doesn’t mater how old yu get . Fishing with a bobber is excellent..
Question: Do you think a clear bobber as opposed to the bright one you were using would make a difference?
I suggest the FG knot. Gotta love the Trout Magnets!
At 12:49 one rose next to your left shoulder. Would be a good day for a dry fly. Cool vid bro :)
a steelhead float is a bit more stealthy its clear with a touch of red on top but that looks like a great float for deeper faster water
I got the panfish magnet it’s basically the same thing I’ve caught just about every panfish you can imagine on them I’ve caught bass in them theses things are great
