Remakes and remasters are 2 different things. And they each have a place in this industry. I would love it if Capcom would remake the onimusha games from the ground up. But a remaster would suffice. And I miss playing DragonBall Z Budokai 3. An HD re-release would be appreciated lol
That is correct! Wherein RE4 was a ground up remake, The Last of Us Part 2 would be a Remaster leaning into Directors Cut territory with the additional content. I would potentially fight a war single handedly if we got the Budokai games remastered, no hyperbole lmao! Onimusha or Dino Crisis would be really sick picks for the Remake treatment too, but I too would settle for more modernization of those classic PS2/PS1 era games with a simple upscale and sanity check on performance. Thanks for the comment buddy!
I want to say i feel the same way about remakes and remasters are are vocal about it, but then remakes like RE4 or Deadspace come out making me a complete hypocrite.
I think RE4 just did a lot right, like Capcom found the secret sauce, and are able to effortlessly bounce around tweaking it to suit the release or the impact it originally had. Thanks for the comment though dude! Appreciate a ton, and hope your new year is well ^^
It speaks volumes to how much they need people to play The Last of Us 2 with how they're lazily slapping it as a $10 add on. Wouldn't doubt most people over looking it
I suspect they’re definitely capitalizing on the hype of the show, and the news season 2 is being worked on for sure! Thanks for comment Nico, love ya buddy ^^
tLoU 2 getting a remaster was expected, I actually expected it a lot sooner. One of the last games to release on PS3 was “remastered” for the start of PS4 only a few months later. So I applaud them for holding back a bit though I didn’t care for the game
I just stumbled apon your channel via the starfield video, and kept watching a few of your vids. You seem like a chill guy, keep up the great work :) greets from germany, Amir
Amir! Thanks so much for giving my stuff a shot buddy, I super appreciate that! I’m glad you liked the videos, and am eager to keep getting them out, but thank you again for giving me a shot as a super small creator :) Hope your new year is well friend ^^
Speaking regarding the Last of Us 2 directly. It makes no sense why people are upset. It's a remaster of a last gen game sure, but then there's much more than a graphical update. There's an entire new gameplay mode, there's the graphical updates, there's behind the scenes footage and commentary. Three new levels in the actual game. It's a measly 10-dollar upgrade. Now lets take a look at Ghost of Tsushima, remember when they did a directors cut almost as soon as the ps5 released? They added a dlc island and charged 15 dollars if you own it. No one batted an eye. Also, this does not take away from development of a sequel or new ip. They have multiple teams and the B team is working on the remaster. So again, there's literally no reason to be upset.
The Last of Us 2 just has such a bad rep in general, so if we see people upset, it’s definitely coming from a place of criticism of the game in of itself, but they’re using this update path as a scapegoat to get mad again. I think $10 is fair, especially if the added modes and content end up has feature filled as we’re hoping. I’ve seen some A/Bs of the game, and while graphically it doesn’t look to different, I imagine it’s a matter of YT compression and resolution scaling really underselling what’s there. But at the end of the day, $10 for new modes, updates, features, and visuals? Sure! I mentioned Call of Duty, because they did this (still do?) a ton, but I completely forgot Ghost did too for the Directors Cut, good eye! That’d be an example of something egregious, and frankly I do wonder if, knowing the reputation TLOU2 had with a certain subsection of their community, felt it necessary to not Tsushima the situation again, since the difference there is, Ghost got unanimous praise. The Last of Us Part 2? Maybe initially, but I’ve noticed people sour on it with time. Good points though! And I super appreciate your comment buddy, thanks for taking the time! Hope your new year is solid so far :)
It’s a knee jerk reaction to a lot of modern releases just not having “it” Maybe the fact that remasters are so popular says more about the quality of current games than we like to admit. Some of the best games I’ve played the past 5 years are remakes/ remasters so I’m not opposed to more
It’s telling for sure! I stand steadfast that the 7th generation of consoles (360/Wii/PS3) especially early in its life span, just thrived with double A developers, and games based on really concise and unique mechanical designs that provided more diversity from game to game. I think even the 6th generation had this effect on people too, but I was too young to afford all the games I may have wanted to play. With ballooning budgets, and mass lay offs, I can’t see this situation not evolving into a more extreme version of the kind of games culture we have right now. Also, thanks for the comment dude! The channels small, so any feedback or conversation is dope. Hope the new years okay for ya dude!
It really is disappointing all in all! I think we do have some bastions of hope in the Double A space, but when it comes to triple A, at least within the realm of originality, we've never really seen things deep this low in quite awhile! Thanks for the comment taka! Hope you're doing decent today buddy! :)
Your presentation and editing work is impressively competent and the cadence/delivery of your voice feels strangely cathartic to listen to idk why LOL however i feel as though if you want to hook people in on the basis of your substantive opinion pieces you need to seriously work on your scriptwriting. Your central thesis re: remakes "i feel as though there is a homogenization effect going on within the remake culture at capcom" might form a coherent sentence however it completely falls apart under any degree of critical thought. Games made by the same developer within the same engine within the same timeframe feel similar and have the same UI etc. all the time. The only remake Valve developed with Source 1 was CS:S. But you can defeinitely feel a blatant "homogeneity" to the source 1 engine playing any one of the 13 games valve developed for source that were *not* remakes . So.. .. how exactly is the "homogenization effect" specifically endemic to or symptomatic of "remake culture"? We dont know because you dont explain. The audience is left guessing as to how your thesis makes any sense because you don't even really elaborate before moving on to TLOU2 remaster. Every new sentence or new thread of information at worst feels like a weird non sequitur and at best is just some little tangent that does 0 to establish, build upon or demonstrate your point. Honestly i would highly recommend having a second pair of eyes to look over your drafts/early edits for feedback whether it be a smart friend or getting an academic on fiverr/craigslist to skim through it for five bucks. Perhaps even taking some BA units at a communtiy or online college or something could be fruitful here in devleoping the skills to research, formulate, structure and articulate your arguments You have alot of potential however there is alot of work that needs to be done. Thats ***if*** you genuinely want to make good points. Obviously you do not need to do so to find sucesss on this platform. thanks for reading and good luck with the channel
I appreciate the HIGHLY constructive feedback! These videos have no script, hence why they truly are ramble heavy. To be frank, I found my love for content creation in Twitch streaming, and due to the nature of that beast, had to branch out to other platforms if I wanted a chance to be able to do any self directed work within the field. I’ve made various attempts into UA-cam Content Creation, and they’ve all led me to working on a single project for extended periods of time, only for them to crash and burn, and demoralize me to the point of working on something else entirely. Streaming taught me people could enjoy content if I made it, and this experiment is in lower effort content, that leverages my strengths enough that I can shake off any and all growing pains and hang ups on “a single upload failing” so I can have the experience and wit to not hang on every line in a script for perfection, and actually be able to do this sort of thing with any degree of speed, competency, or accuracy. I genuinely REALLY do hear you, and take your words to heart, I’m just trying to get in the habit and mindset of hitting upload on shit with my face on it, and not have a panic meltdown that I’ve ruined something. I have three scripted videos on my channel right now, and two of them did pretty well, but each took about 70 hours to conceive, not including recording gameplay, and learning the editing programs, and how to make half decent thumbnails. I would like to make more, but unless they’re serious labors of love, there’s a gnawing “good job yelling into the void, jackass” that can be hard to get over. Maybe you make content yourself, and maybe you can’t relate to what I’m saying. But I’m trying, and these videos are an effort to do ANYTHING with UA-cam, in my own way, without burning me out so bad, that I never do it again. Thanks for the genuine, and well conceived, write up there buddy! I’m glad you liked my delivery and personage, and I hope to be able to use it in such a means I find artistically, and emotionally gratifying one day ^^ We all start somewhere.
Dude you are awesome. I just had your why Bethesda deserves Starfield video and I wanted to see more of your content. I can’t believe you have so few subs. I think you have some good opinions and look forward to hearing more from you.
I think developers should focus on remaking games that were poorly received on initial release For instance, I would actually buy a competent RE6 remake Same goes for movies
You know, if not poorly received, certainly cult classics or games with a major handicap to their ability to be enjoyed today (limited release/2 or 3 console gen gap/etc) I actually completely agree with this, I’d love to see games that didn’t nail it the first time (or were too obtuse initially to be appreciated broadly) to get another shot, rather than ultra classics and juggernaut successes exclusively. Thanks for the comment dude!
I like how Resident Evil 4 handled their remake. I feel like I’m getting a little fatigued of them all sorta having the same sorta vibe, but that’s a me issue and not objective. That said, I still take issue with Remakes too, like Shadow of the Colossus or Dead Space. Great ways to experience those games for the first time, or as modernization, but they’re effectively just the same game again, but with some deeper consideration. A Remaster Pro Max, if you will lmao Thanks for the comment dude!
@@arkyUS_YT yea i can see that, especially with RE. I kinda just want a new installment, it’s already been almost 3 years since village too. Hope they’re cooking up something good!
@@calebsmith9649 BRO! The way my jaw dropped when I realized it’s actually been almost that long, what the hell! Yeah definitely looking forward to where they go next. Curious if they’ll keep doing the Roman numeral scheme going, and what the game could even be called with an IX.
I think remasters and remakes are different, and thus can (and maybe should) be treated differently. Skyrim, for example, being released, re-released, and then re-re-re-released is a problem. I see the RE2 remake a lot less of a problem. Skyrim re^10 released almost exactly in the same state many different times. RE2 remake was a similar game in many regards, but was also much more. Another example that I always enjoyed was Wind Waker HD. Yes, it was nice to play that pretty GameCube game in vibrant and gorgeous HD, but they also fixed some of the Triforce fetch questing that was AWFUL in the original game, added a "fast sail" which was just a huge QOL improvement, and other little things like that. Doing a remaster or a "next-gen" or a HD version of a game and not changing a darn thing on it is something I'm not really into getting or interested in. I think the whole thing is a gradient, and there's somewhere near the middle where it gets blurry, so it may just be a matter of seeing how much change was implemented, whereas on the two extremes it's very clear. On the one side you have Skyrim, and on the other you have like a RE2 or something. The overall, greater-scale argument though is that we need more new, interesting IPs instead of remakes, and that's something I 100% believe.
I'm ok with a good remaster that leaves the core of the game intact, at least if it's a game actually old enough to need it. Alan Wake is a textbook example of what I think a remaster should be. I have zero interest in remakes however.
