😆 🤣, Love it that you mentioned The Residents. Those guys are not in left field, they’re way beyond it. But they’re highly amusing. An old friend turned me on to them back in the ‘ 90s. Glad he did ! And I’m looking forward to your Porcupine Tree ranking, as well as Hawkwind. Thanks for the heads up !!

There's a ton of bands on the prog fringes worthy of discussion in order to bring them to the attention of a wider audience. This Sunday's featured band XTC are a great example. Perhaps a future livestream could be a general discussion on other bands on the fringes of prog? 10cc, Supertramp, Radiohead, Talk Talk, Cardiacs, Tears For Fears etc Are they pop, are they art rock, are they prog? Does it really matter? They all have prog elements to their music
Nice! Nine of these 10 bands I haven't really listened to at all (I know Brand X quite well), so more homework from the Prog Corner (but certainly enjoyable work indeed). Looking forward to the great upcoming content and rankings.
Dirty Three is definitely a group you should look into. Did you see that Residents ultimate box set? All of their releases in a full sized refrigerator. Also comes with vintage concert eyeball. I think the price is $100,000. I'm pretty sure some guy in the Midwest bought one a few years back.
Now, I recognise this format. About 2 weeks ago on another music UA-cam channel? But not purely prog. So, on another channel I saw best double albums and thought that would be a great idea for Scot and double prog albums???

You did it again Scot, great show, see you!! Greetings from sunny Portugal!!!! PS: Procol Harum is a band hardly mentioned here but like you said "don't need suggestions, they are all in my head!!" PS2 Incredible String Band what a great band, folk, psychedelic rock, and not easy to listen (like the fantastic Fairport Convention or Steeleye Span).
Galahad and Drifting sun have many excellent albums. I am now under the spell of "The Magic of Sin" after watching you and Pete ranked all works of Arabs in Aspic !! Many thanks again.
Kill me, but it's the underground that brings the beauty of this genre. I always wanted to hear from you for two of my favourite bands - Novalis and Jade Warrior. I think they deserve a place in the best prog place in the world - The Prog Corner
One band I always liked was Aragon; not sure if you talked about them before. They were from Australia and did this really cool concept album called Mouse🤘
Good on ya for Cardiacs!!! What about Fish? I can't think of anybody talking about him on prog channels I've watched except in relation to Marillion. He had a long solo career after that; not everything was great, but some of it was....
Glad you mentioned Leprous, fabulous band. Only discovered them last year. Aphelion is a lot more prog than their previous stuff. I hope they keep going in that direction.
Look forward to those rankings Scot. Especially MM's Earthband, Caravan and Nektar .All of whom i had the privilege of seeing many times in their 70's heydays.
Hey scott ever heard of chinese prog bands? There’s one called omnipotent youth society, i went to see them live yesterday and ive got to say it changed my life!😊
Are you familiar with Mostly Autumn? They've been around since the late 90s and have a pretty extensive discography. They may also be one of the few bands to have had more line-up changes than Yes, and in a shorter amount of time! : - ) Don't think I've ever heard them being mentioned on your show, but they are well worth some attention IMO.
I remember watching an older all prog series by Pete Pardo, and que didn't mention Caravan. I obviously questioned him, and he responded saying he only owned a 2-CD compilation (actually I also own it, and it was my gateway drug to this band (not to mention the Canterbury scene)). A few years later he was gifted with the Decca/Deram 9-CD anthology which contains all of their CD's except for the debut album. Being the completist he is, he purchased it, corrected the path and already has done a ranking the albums show and a Prog Seat Canterbury show.
I get why Leprous is a bit out of your normal sphere (their first couple albums I haven't really gotten into yet either), but their last three albums are fantastic and really not all that unapproachable to people less inclined with the heavier side of metal. Aphelion in particular is a masterpiece in my opinion - I named Running Low back a few weeks ago when you were doing best opening tracks, Below would also have worked but the first minute and a half or so of Running Low just gives me goosebumps every time. Einar is a fantastic singer, I also really liked his solo album from last year, even if it's not as much prog or metal as any of the stuff he's done with Leprous.

We have different borders. For me, it's jazz. I have no problem with most metal. I've been digging Soft Machine 4 of late, so... woops! there goes the jazz line. Maybe I'll get around to Brand X someday.
Someone mentioned Uriah Heep... I saw them last Monday supporting Judas Priest in Glasgow. They're a band I'd wanted to see forever, but on the night they had major technical problems and had to play a truncated set of only 4 songs. Nevertheless, they were fantastic - real pros, great songs and so much talent there. Arguably deserved to be much bigger in their day than they were, but were inevitably overshadowed by Purple, Sabbath and Zeppelin at the time.
No band makes me laugh as much as The Residents (i.e. Bach is Dead.) Captain Beefheart falls into that category too. And Birth Control's Gamma Ray used to be a staple for many many years. A nice trip down memory lane today. Cheers!
