My dream build is a 924CGT lookalike with a turbo 07k. I loved my old 924S and always thought about what it would be like with just a bit more oomph. Great video, Lee! It’s fun to see some coverage on this hidden gem.
The 2.5 in your 924S is capable of more oomph. Given half a chance, it's a great engine but no one bothers tuning them because turbos make everything so easy.
@@anthonydietmeier6524they’re pretty decent and definitely overlooked. I’d much rather swap in an 07k for that 5 cylinder soundtrack and losing the frequent timing belt changes.
@justinmckeown9029 I spent a lot of time researching the 07k swap. I wish it was a little more developed for street car use. Either way, I lucked into some ITB's for my 2.5 and they were transformative, this engine really sings now. I'm all in on NA 2.5 life now with no regrets.
To put things into perspective, the 1980 Porsche 924 Carrera GT produced 210 horsepower from its 2.0 liter turbo 4 cylinder engine and weighed in at 2600 lbs. which pushed it from 0-60 mph in 6.9 seconds and on to a top speed of 150 mph. The 1980 Chevrolet Corvette had a 5.7 liter V8 rated at 190 horsepower and a curb weight of 3300 lbs. pushing it from 0-60 in 7.7 seconds and topping out at 125 mph. Overall torque output was the only category that the Porsche was beaten by the Corvette which had 280 lbs ft of torque compared to the Porsche’s 203 ft lbs.
Love the 924 CGT. My first Porsche was a 924, lost the back end on many a wet roundabout back in the day, great cars. Back seats down, you’ll easily fit a mountain bike in the boot.
Anyone else’s favourite part from the car those crests on the seats? 😂 Brings back good memories seeing these type of cars driving around in the 90s those arches definitely look race car so this car is definitely cool. Definitely an age of connection between man and machine that has been lost slightly.
Tony Dron raced one at Le mans and he raved about the balance and ability of the car! These live in the shadows of the 911 as Porsche will never want another model above the 911
There is a 1981 924 Carrera GT in nice shape in the next State from me. It is very cool. Though a very rare 968 Turbo S would be better. That car was faster and handled better than even the 968 Clubsport (which itself was one of the best handling Porsches of it's time).
I see its appeal, if it is your car, get it. But the called price? 996 GT3 money or a decent 993 Carrera or a very sorted Carrera 3.2. I guess if you have everything, this is the one to have.
05:32 -- The 924 has a terrible seating position. The steering wheel is too low, it interferes with your legs even with the seat on the floor. The seat itself is reclined to a point where there is no support above your kidneys.
Agreed, i used to own a 924S, im only 5ft7 but sometimes my knee would hit the bottom of the steering wheel when i released the clutch. But man was it a great car, shitty ergonomics but just otherwise an amazing car. If i buy one again it would be an automatic due to the horrible driving position.
❤😂😂😂😢😮😮😅😅😅😅 bro you always do the videos but you never get back with the people that say good comments about all the Porsches that you drive. Why not I know you’re busy but it be nice to take care bro. Have a good week and a good weekend.
A very interesting specimen, the rarity of which enhances this observation. But even put pack in its period context, I still couldn’t hesitate with a 911 of the same era. And I agree with you, this guards red with black Fuchs wheels is a winner combination. 😎

I'm 100% with you on that build

You should also try one of the 1988 944 Turbo S if you enjoyed that car.
When I was 13, I got a road & track that has this car on the cover. I fell in love with Porsche, and finally got a 996 a few years ago.

Amongst my top 3 favourite Porsches of all time with the 928S and 930. Stunning racer looks.
Amazing car for any Porsche collector. The 924 CGT is more like the 944 concept car for the street/track.

Another great video Lee, the car looks stunning in Guards Red.
I’m ‘credit card’ restoring a 944, such underrated cars. I’d love to own this car 👍🏼
What one you restoring ?
I’ve owned a turbo 220, and a lux 2.7
Want the S2 next
I don’t know if it’s the angle of the camera but the 996 C4S in the background looks huge compared to the 993
The CGT interior isn't the same as the other 924 turbos. That red pinstripe velour is unique!

That is gorgeous, love seeing stuff like this, especially nowadays, have you seen the tuthill GT1
Great video Lee
Ive never seen a 924 CGT in right hand drive before !
Stunning car and so far ahead of its time.
A rare thing. Great video
Stunning!!

Oh, I didn't know that there was an other Porsche Modell what has the name Carrera GT ❕😜
Love from Berlin 🇩🇪
Ramsi 🙋🏻♂️
Cheers Ramsi!
@@9WERKSTV Cheers Lee 😘
Learned about a new porsche 🎉😊
Huge fan of the 924CGT despite my 911 leanings. 😉

Magnus Walker also owns one! Or maybe even two of them.
Derek Bell, the 5 x Le Mans winner, was given one new and still has it. It gets featured in magazines
The 924 turbo has 177 hp
The S1 has 170, the S2 177. :)
Ofcoarse the Carrera GT is a 911 classic rival. Very special car👌

Quite like the ergonomics of mine, I can't replicate the steering wheel problem I keep hearing about.

A CGT I might actually be able to afford!!! *clicks sale link* Bahhh.... nevermind.
