The show's writers knew TLoTR is an established franchise with a large fanbase, so they hijacked it and wrote their own version of a High Fantasy series using TLoTR skin so attract that fanbase because they knew NO ONE will ever gave a damn about their original story.
Simple, whoever was in charge of this series decided to go the whole hog DEI, woke, brown washing, black washing, female empowerment, male diminishing re-write of the ENTIRE LORE of LOTR, the same sort of treatment that has been destroying Disney's TV shows and movies of late (e.g., "Snow White"). I don't know, it started with the theatrical musical "Hamilton" which was a huge critical and financial success, despite it being a complete brown washing and black washing of American history.
