2021 UPDATE - Furniture still looks amazing! No discoloration, no chips and looks brand new. Thank you all so much for your love and support! I will be working on a new DIY very soon :) stay tuned!
Right!!! I have this Victorian bedroom set... Like the one she has but without the tall end poles. I want to remodel but cannot but a new set right now And head no idea how to lighten and make the room sophisticated and chic. I think this could help
Nice result. So many trees are sacrificed in the making of furniture. This hard work is greatly appreciated by nature. It is an environmental necessity but at the same time it looks beautiful.
So many of us want to take shortcuts. Cutting corners will only cause problems further on . You did such a great job and did all the proper steps! Blocking out dark woods and paints is absolutely required when covering dark with light. Great video! Thanks.
Thank you you have answered all my questions and doubts I was really concerned on how to make it appear shiny and glossy and your last step answer that question for me. Please don’t stop. I also find a time consuming, but the in results make it all worth it.
I just DIY my TV stand I'm tired but trust me it's good to do something new on your own I'm feeling so good when I see it. I'm just encouraging all women try to be active and save money for other things one love
When I saw you were doing all 3 pieces I was like that’s a mistake, lol! I’ve done a desk, drawer, and nightstand all at once and it was still so much more time consuming than I had anticipated.
You did a very thorough job of preparing your furniture for paint. I have painted lots of pieces now by hand & agree w/ you that using primer under paint even if its chalk paint, is the best way to seal the finish under the paint.Your pieces look beautiful 💗 blessings, Jenny
Thank you so much! And yes, it definitely is. Many people want to skip that step but I feel like in the end it makes your job a lot easier because the final result will come out flawless! :)
TFS!! . I have been wanting to lighten some dark furniture. The set I wanted was in a parchment color but it was $1,500 over my budget thank you for some good ideas.
The set I have is such good quality wood which is why I didn't want to get rid of it and decided to refurbish it, glad this video was helpful! Good luck on your project :)
You are so inspiring to me, I have almost the same identical bedroom set, I brought a new beautiful bed , but I love my 2 dressers, I want to paint them grey with mirror trimmings! Beautiful job!🙏🏽👍👍👍
What a beautiful job you did ! Not only on your furniture but you explained and demonstrated everything so well! Im going to paint dark wood furniture white also..TU for this! It was very inspiring rose 🌹
I love how it turned out it really looks amazing. I'm actually looking for the bed & side tables as I have the matching armoire. I would never paint it though, I love it in it's natural color. I am painting a cabinet from a pale green to white so this video & comments will help tremendously. TY enjoy your beautiful space !!
Your paint job is fantabulous! I inherited my parents old heavy bed room furniture, the set is gorgeous but I don't like the brown, thanks for showing in detail how to paint dark furniture.
You are such an inspiration, and do such amazing work. You have inspired me to start my own furniture painting business, as well as a UA-cam channel. Thank you so much!!!
Thank you!! Yes, confidence is KEY. The color I used is Elegant Cream Ivory by PPG. It's also a primer but since I was painting over very dark furniture, I used a separate primer then topped it off with the final paint (3 coats) Good luck on your project!

I’m planning to buy 4 piece furniture set which is in dark walnut color and then paint it white. Do you think i would need to do the sanding part given its new Furniture. It’s 400-500$ cheaper than other white set and exactly what i want .. please reply!! Thank you for your video,, it was very informative
Hi! I believe that all furniture requires some level of sanding...so I personally would sand the furniture to make sure the paint adheres to the surface. Look at it this way, sanding furniture before painting will ensure a smooth finish that will make it less likely to chip! Good luck with everything! :)
Hiya I just randomly came across this and I watched the whole lot with interest! You did an Amazing job fair play you should be well proud! Yes it looks very time consuming but for myself I've only to do the bed! Hope you're enjoying your new room! It looks much bigger too!
So you’re sanding the clear coat/shiny sealer off so the paint will adhere to the piece. After you sand off the clear coat then you want to remove the dust with a dry rag, then a damp rag & once dry wipe down with the tack cloth. If necessary then sand it smooth (if wood sand with grain) and repeat the cleaning the dust steps again. Then You can begin the painting process at that point.
Unless it is fiberboard for the wood. To achieve a lighter look. One can use a stain that is even white to allow the wood grain that your Deity had placed into the wood itself. For example Pure White 1081 by Minwax.
I dust the surface every other day with a dry rag...and once a week I clean with a very rinsed rag. The paint/color looks beautiful, no chips, looks new! Hope this helps
Hi! :) I purchased 1 gallon of primer (used 3/4 of primer) 1 gallon of paint (used 3/4 of paint) and 1 quart of protective finish/topcoat (used almost entire can) Hope this was helpful!
Hi! I'm not completely sure but I don't see why not....I do want to make another vlog on how to paint furniture with spray paint but I'm still doing my research!
Thank you so much! Adding a second coat definitely gave the furniture more life which is why it looked white even tho it's ivory...perhaps it was the lighting?
Wow thank you for the video I'm still debating since I have no clue and there's so many types of paints. Also I don't think my bedroom set is all real wood. Did you mostly sand the pieces with the sander you showed? How long do you wait between the primer and paint coats? Do you use seperate rollers for primer, paint, and sealer, or can you wash them..... Would these products all work on a kitchen table?
If you use a bonding primer you don't have to sand anything, and it will adhere to ANY surface, including wood, "fake" wood, metal, vinyl, laminate etc. Just paint one layer of bonding primer directly to the surface you want to paint. Just make sure it's clean. The primer dries within hours and then you can paint! Or if the surface was rough you can do a second layer of primer. It's so much easier and faster. I just did a metal bedframe and it was not even comparable to having to sand first. Hope this helps!
Hi! So I'm not really sure but I found a great blog post on how to paint Ikea furniture. Here's the link! Hope this is helpful! poshpennies.com/how-to-paint-ikea-furniture-guide/
The entire set took me a full week! That's working from the morning till evening...I'd say I spent no more than $250 on the materials...hope this helped!
If u wanted to skip all that process u could have just used white chalk paint and it turns out great then just put the sealer at the end and looks professional. But good job .
Hmmm so in your case, I would heavily sand the furniture in order to STRIP OFF the color. For this I would use ultra course sandpaper, the lower the grit, the better. Sanding will avoid the red coming through. After, prime and paint. Then the fun part - lightly sand to distress. So sand -> prime -> paint -> distress (lightly sand) Good luck on your project! How exciting!
OMG sooo much work. Chalk paint would have saved you all that sanding and a once over with some warm soapy water at the start is all you would have had to do. Its beautiful though and you did a great job but im not surprised you wouldn't want to do that again!!!
I personally wouldn't skip it, maybe lightly sand it just to remove the polish this way the white paint can adhere better to the surface. Good luck! :)

Thank you! Oh my goodness I wanted to cry so bad lol but it was all worth it !
So nice ❤ I ❤️ it thank you so much 💕😊😍😊
Thank you!💕😊
go w the grain of the wood when u sand. tfs been wanting to do my furniture for awhile think i'll start off this new year by doing so.
Good luck and have fun!
Looks great, however, I would have definitely changed out the hardware for a fresher look!
I love these knobs! But you're totally right if I want to go for a fresher look
Very helpful thank you!
Thx u. Doing my first DIY.
Good luck!!!🙏🏻💖
Follow the grain of the wood when sanding, meaning the direction of the pattern in the wood
I would’ve even put golden spray paint on the metal handles for the drawers.
Yes I was thinking to do that but I really liked the look of the handles already! Next project!
thanks a lot
you can get pigment added to kilz just like you do the white paint when you buy it
Unless it is fiberboard for the wood. To achieve a lighter look. One can use a stain that is even white to allow the wood grain that your Deity had placed into the wood itself. For example Pure White 1081 by Minwax.
You mean use a white stain instead of using the paint she used.
@@desertcat3 Yes, even a blond stain would help.
I’ve wanted to do this for nearly two years and scared to start 😱
I was too but just went for it!! Good luck with everything!
How do you maintain the color? Stains dirt etc
I dust the surface every other day with a dry rag...and once a week I clean with a very rinsed rag. The paint/color looks beautiful, no chips, looks new! Hope this helps
Id love to paint my brown canopy bed to white but my bed is not real wood. Would that paint still be okay to use?
Is this treat can be used for a metal bed?
Hi, How many cans of primer, paint, and topcoat did you use?
Hi! :) I purchased 1 gallon of primer (used 3/4 of primer) 1 gallon of paint (used 3/4 of paint) and 1 quart of protective finish/topcoat (used almost entire can) Hope this was helpful!
Hi. Do you think I can use a spay paint gum rather than a brush or roller. . For both primer and coats of paint ? Thanks 😊
Hi! I'm not completely sure but I don't see why not....I do want to make another vlog on how to paint furniture with spray paint but I'm still doing my research!
which colour paint did u exactly use ? what name should I ask the shopkeeper to provide ? is it off white? the final colour I meant
Excellent work. Very detailed, but did I miss something? The first coat looked more lime an ivory color, but the second one was white. ????
Thank you so much! Adding a second coat definitely gave the furniture more life which is why it looked white even tho it's ivory...perhaps it was the lighting?
nice job done , wondering how long takes to finish all three piece?
1 week!
Beautiful 🌹👍
Thank you! :)
Is there a list of all supplies needed and quantities of each?
Yes, check out the description box underneath the video! You can also check it out on my blog!
Nice vlog
Thank you! :)
Do you have to add the PPG paint??
I did only because I didn't want to take any shortcuts!
is a protective finish the same thing as a top coat?
The protective finish is the top coat

It should as long as the furniture is wood and not metal! Hope this was helpful!
Will you advise: how much did this project cost and how many hours?
The entire set took me a full week! That's working from the morning till evening...I'd say I spent no more than $250 on the materials...hope this helped!
Great i also want to do this. but all shops closed due to lock down...
Home Depot is still open! You can get everything there. Be careful and good luck!
@@SamiraDSayegh ok thanks for the information.. you to stay safe and healthy
Instead of using a tack cloth you can first vacuum and then follow up with a lightly damp microfiber cloth.
True! But I personally feel like a tack cloth is a bigger time saver and it worked well for me :)
Looks really good but you didnt say how long it took you. I would love to know as I want to do mine .
Thank you! :) It took my a good 6 full days
Thanks . For how long do we let it dry in each phase ?
Once I was done adding the primer, I let it dry overnight. I repeated the same thing when I added the paint! Hope this was helpful :)
@@SamiraDSayegh
Yes it was .thanks a lot 🌷
How long did it take?
Almost a week! 6 days
What do you do with details on the bed? Its hard to sand that, no?
I used a small piece of sandpaper and block, it was more time consuming because it's very detailed!
Samira Dahdal Sayegh i saw you skipped that part in the video, lol
@@mellotron_scratch LOL YES I DID! Took way too long, thank goodness I had the patience
Did you put a clear coat on the furniture?
A protective finish which is basically the clear coat. It helps protect the paint :)
If u wanted to skip all that process u could have just used white chalk paint and it turns out great then just put the sealer at the end and looks professional. But good job .
Thank you! I am thinking of doing that with my next project since chalk paint seems very popular these days!
how many hours of work was this?
Wow ! I’m going to paint mine but I have 5 furniture items in my room
Wow! I suggest you do a little at a time otherwise it'll become overwhelming, have fun and good luck!!!

You can use a high bond primer so you can skip sanding.

You can use a paint and primer in one instead of a separate primer!

It's holding up well! Still looks like I just did it
