  • Welcome back to the 2nd video of my DIY Bathroom Makeover Series! In this video, I am sharing a Rustoleum Countertop Transformation! I will show you how I transformed the bathroom countertop using the Rustoleum Appliance Epoxy Spray! For $7 this was an AMAZING transformation! Don't forget to hit SUBSCRIBE to follow along the $100 DIY Bathroom Makeover series. We're just getting started! I will share the steps below and include some tips and tricks I learned along the way. Don't miss this countertop makeover, it's amazing what a $7 can of Epoxy Spray can do!
    1.Clean countertops with a surface cleaner and a towel. (I used Mrs. Meyers)
    2. Sand the countertop lightly. I used a 100 grit sandpaper.
    3.Using a damp cloth wipe off dust. Then go over again with a microfiber towel to remove any dust or particles left behind. I did this twice just to be sure everything was cleaned off!
    4. Turn on any vents / a house fan/ and open windows! This spray is strong! I HIGHLY recommend using a mask while spraying!
    5.Mask off walls/cabinet/toilet/faucet etc. The overspray is thick! I cannot recommend green FROGTAPE enough! It's a great product!
    6. Spray 1st coat, if puddles or drips happen just wipe off quickly with a clean cloth and respray. Let first coat dry for 15 minutes.
    7. Spray 2nd coat. Allow to dry for 3-4 hours. I removed masking tape/plastic after 3.
    8. Enjoy your new countertops! I clean mine regularly with surface cleaner and I have had no problems with peeling or anything at all!

      Hello I recently did this and at first it turned out great. Well apparently I didn’t wait long enough to take off the tape and drop clothes and she i did some particles fell from the cloth. I tried getting them off and it left marks on it. Can I resand it and redo it? I’m so sad this happened.

    A little tip for using any spray can. Take a long wire tie and wrap it around the can. Look at the instructions on the can. If it says keep a twelve to fourteen inch distance from the surface, then trim the wire tie to twelve inches. One of the Biggest mistakes, with using spray cans, is getting too close to the surface.

    • @SIMPLYME100
      @SIMPLYME100 4 роки тому +10

      What will the wire do?

    • @stevenmoomey2115
      @stevenmoomey2115 4 роки тому +81

      SIMPLYME100 It’s not Wire, but a Nylon Wire Tie. It helps you Judge the Distance you should be from the Painted Surface. It does make a big difference in the finish. Someone who did Auto Body work, showed me this and did a comparison on my pained surface verses his.

    Should've wiped it off with cheesecloth and acetone to wipe the counter down as a final wipe, after you do a first basic clean. Acetone will remove the oils and build up and cheesecloth will not leave lint and the acetone won't dry on the cheesecloth as fast as a microfiber or other towel. That's my 2 cents of advice.

Counter tops, old metal cabinet knobs and hinges and cranks. It's the most amazing find and has far more useage than appliances.Spray is good too. @@dianesamp9102 It should work for that.. I haven't done direct water spray from showering, on it... only baths but since you are too, it will work great.. I did two coats. Be sure to fill the holes first and level them(sand down gently) and then you can either prime them or thinly spot prime them with the same epoxy before top coating.. Also.. I did NOT use a roller, only a brush, and since it's vertical, it settles without brush marks.. and btw.. it's throw the brush away afterwards.. get the so called 'chip brushes' that are boar bristle brushes for around a dollar each at Lowes or Home Depot and they will be economical and work fine.. Actually at high end homes in the Silicon Valley, I used a lot of those brushes, a lot of colors and coats and the newer they are, the better.. I have never favored plastic brushes that are supposedly used for water based paints either.. hate them..leaves tracks..I'm a maverick.. always used a bristle brush.. like Purdys but they are too expensive to keep tossing and those 2" and smaller or larger chip bristles are fantastic. The Walmart version sheds too much but HD has good one.. dont't get &store either, sheds.. Hey Diane, have fun.. you can do it...Sincerely, Jenneva (jennavah)

    Naphtha, Xylenes, Acetone are part of this product thus ventilating by opening any windows is an obvious suggestion. I also suggest using Rust-Oleum Companion Aerosol, Comfort Grip which allows a person much easier method of spraying and is reusable on "rattle cans". Using long and lighter even strokes that allows a far more even coating than short ones that cause the paint pooling and drips. I'd rather use more masking sheets and a couple of rolls of wide painters tape than the time it takes to clean up.

    Hello everyone who is thinking of trying this! I did today, and probably the most important thing I learned is that you NEED to cover your entire body, eyes, and hair if you don't want epoxy in those places. Long sleeves, pants, shoes, gloves, mask and ANYTHING to keep your eyes protected. Idk how she didn't get epoxy in her eyes; the spray-back was horrific. My husband and I used this spray on our guest bathroom counter, with proper ventilation, and the entire house was full of fumes for hours. Everything upstairs that wasn't completely closed off was covered in a thin layer of the epoxy, as well as the entire bathroom. If you don't want a disgustingly sticky residue everywhere, cover it. We covered our bathroom WAYYYYY more than this and everything else is still gross. Rust-Oleum has a paintable version of this product and I highly recommend using that instead. Props to her for making this somehow work, but I have no idea how this product is considered safe. The can doesn't even tell you to wear protective gear.

    I think that people make a mistake by doing short, frenetic, back and forth spurts when they spray. It is too easy to get overly concentrated paint in one area with that technique. I find that taking a slightly slower and longer sweeping motion from a further distance gets a more even coating. Just a slower paced motion, and just one time back and forth should do it. I also find that I have fewer or no paint drips with that technique.

    I agree with all information. Also I wanted to say that if at all possible, it is great if you can take the countertop off and/or make sure your lighting is good. I was going to do this inside, but as with all things we are finding out about this money pit house, everything was done cheaply so when we went to move out the vanity the countertop just lifted off anyway. I took it outside to the driveway to sand it generously, and I could really see imperfections and dings so much better. The lighting in the bathroom was so dim I would never have seen them until I already sprayed it. Also given all the comments about ventilation I'm glad to be doing it outside anyhow. Since I am painting the vanity at the same time, it gives you a break in terms of not having to tape the sink off to do the vanity painting and vice versa.
