I‘ll always find my way home, even if all roads are destroyed She wouldn‘t wake me up even if there was a storm outside Or if there was a storm between her and grandma, She trusted me over everyone else Even when she was tired, she just kept rocking me Lully-lully-lullaby Mother Stephania Stephania mother The field is blooming, but her hair is getting grey Mother, sing me the lullaby I want to hear your dear word I‘m not a kid anymore, but she will always treat me like one I‘m not a kid anymore, but she keeps worrying about me, anytime I‘m out Mother, you are still young. If I don‘t appreciate your kindness, I‘m moving towards a dead-end But my love for you has no end. Mother Stephania Stephania mother The field is blooming, but her hair is getting grey Mother, sing me the lullaby I want to hear your dear word
I dont care what anyone says this song deserved to win, i still listen to it and if any country makes me want to keep watching eurovision after all these years its Ukraine that can always impress with their music, language and culture.
The flute-like part of the song is so catchy and funky, you could see it being one of those songs where 5-10 seconds of it becomes really popular on TikTok
@@lucasqwert1 most commonly, dance (b-boying/break dance), mcing/rap, dj-ing/remixing, graffiti (Street art) Dance and Rap is obvious, street art is included on the carpet man's outfit, and I'd argue including the Ukrainian traditional bits are kind of remixing
If people understood the lyrics this song is even more beautiful. They are basically singing about how mom is always forgiving and appreciating what mom has always done without asking anything in return. The chorus means: Stefania mum mum Stefania The field blooms, but she is turning grey Sing me a lullaby mum I want to hear your native word Another great part translated: She rocked me; gave me rhythm and probably the power of will; did not take, but she gave Probably knew even more and from Solomon I will always walk to you by broken roads She will not awaken, won’t wake, me in strong storms She will take two fig signs from grandma, as if they were bullets Слава Україні! 💙 💛 much love from Canada
I was born in 1960 and grew up with Beatles and all but this’ll be the song with the history. This song still makes me in tears for joy and compassion.
Epic Telynka guy :) In the hands of the vocalist is a Ukrainian instrument - Telynka. It differs from others in that it has no holes like a flute or sopilka (another Ukrainian folk instrument). The sound is produced by clamping the other side of the instrument (as Tymofiy plays)
It's just in general a great song, I can understand why they won. I added this song to my special Spotify playlist, and only the best songs go in there
I don’t know why, but when I read comments from Americans about how much they like this song, I smile from ear to ear, and this song from my homeland is very cool, it always gives me goosebumps (Hello from Ukraine!)
I'm Croatian but I've been listening to this a lot, I don't understand all of it, but I get the gist. Also side note, I like how only Ukrainians and Croats use "ikavian" speech, for example the word "white" Білий, in my dialect of Croatian it's "bili" When I read the lyrics, it's crazy how much I can understand without translation
@@maxkho00 It is the standard, however large part of the country speaks ikavica, which has historically been dominant. Only at the time of formation of Yugoslavia do we get shtokavian, ijekavian standard Open the map of Croatia, look at Dalmatia, Istria, and Lika, these regions speak ikavian. Also parts of Bosnia & Herzegovina as well
@@lemonstealinghorse I see. It is indeed, then, an interesting coincidence that only Croatia (and I guess parts of Bosnia, as per your last comment) and Ukraine decided to pronounce their "e"s as "i"s. Ukrainians went further, though, as they also decided to also pronounce their "o"s as "i"s (so e.g. "house" in Ukrainian is "dim"). Other than ikanie and the broader Slavic cultural connection, Ukrainians and Croatians are nothing alike😂
They certainly got a lot of points because of the sympathy and the situation in their country, but the truth is that the song could have won without it, it sounds great. The more songs in the native languages of the performers, the better.
The flute makes the entire song so catchy and the rap makes you want to vibe along with the contestants I really like the fact they are also singing in their home country's language and traditional clothing
this is not Eurovision. and where is originality? culture? this has nothing with both. One mediocre creation without any musical worth and awful lyrics. Just cause of pitty on situation current Ukraine won. But this song doesn't deserve even to be in the first 5 places.
A few months after the Eurovision Song Contest they gave a concert, my friends and I went to the concert and waited for them for 5 hours! They were in a hotel nearby, and when they deigned to come to the concert stage, half of the audience had already left, because everyone was very tired of waiting and there were many people with children who were also tired and crying, and we also left. From my acquaintances who stayed there I learned that they did not even apologize. And a few hours before this concert they were asked to sing a song for children at a charity event and they refused because they wanted to be paid. After this case I stopped listening and respecting this band, but I agree that their performance at Eurovision was worthy of winning. That was the end of their merits for me.
its the best part of the song period! also i recommend searching "stefania thnked remix" it really brings out that flute i just love both these versions
I wish there will be a time, a peaceful time, when Ukraine can hold the Eurovisiion Contest in their country. That will be a happy, happy event, for the whole world to see!
Ok I get that some people don‘t like this song or the fact that they won but there is one thing you can‘t deny: they sound fantastic live. They sing just like in the studio version.

This is the opposite of perfection. The combination of fake tradition and modernism they brought to the table is exactly what shouldn't be shown in this contest. Meritless, meaningless "win".
I loved this so much. It gives goosebumps and is so unique. It feels traditional ( not from Ukraine so not too sure about traditional but sounds it to an uneducated ear) yet modern. Plus it is amazing how much heart they put in to this all things considering!
It is very traditional. And the way the rapper expresses himself in the rap part is very authentic too. Unfortunately, translation can't really convey it, but this song shows the continuation of the Ukrainian spirit through generations.
Brilliant statistics of Ukraine (since 2003) 🥇🥇🥇 Ruslana, Jamala, Kalush orchestra 🥈🥈 Verka, Ani Lorak 🥉 Zlata Ognevic 4 Mika Newton 5 Go A 6 Tvorchi, Mariya Yaremchuk 7 Tina Karol Ukraine always qualifies for the final. Out of 18 participations - 12 in the top 10.
Even though it was kinda obvious who would win Eurovision 2022, this was actually one of my favorite entries since it was so different and stood out compared to other countries.
I have always loved these ethnic folk music. I voted for this because I like it. I also liked the last year’s Eurovision song of Ukraine that I wanted them in the higher rating. In 2022, Ukraine’s situation affected the ratings and they have won. But I am happy both on behalf of Ukraine for the situation in Ukraine and, of myself for loving this type of music.
I voted for Ukraine as I loved the tune. It was so catchy. Now seeing the lyrics on the official video in English at the bottom of the screen it breaks my heart. Such an amazing song and emotional performance.
The song is against the rules of eurovision. The songs that are performed should be songs that have not been performed before (like this one and the year before). These are actually well known folk songs, but people who don't speak Ukrainian won't know. So yes, let them sing, what else can they do? ;)
i sweare that part is super catchy, been on repeat because of that. i also recommend searching up "stefania thnked remix" its a really good version too
Very bold and theatrical. Immediately, I was curious and intrigued. The music also started quite loud/bold, which is unusual as many pieces tend to start quietly and build up, while this song did have a build-up it still had a strong opening which set the tone for the rest of the piece.

I think the song it's cool but if they were representing another country I'm not sure they would have won... 439 points from the popular votes of 480 that are the maximum I think it's too much and unrealistic... I think there were some song that were better and in normal conditions UK, Spain or Sweden would have been the top 3
That rule used to exist but they got rid of it. I think it's fine as it is now because it acknowledges that many musicians write and perform in English to reach a global audience. That way its more about the music and less about the language. And you still have countries who usually sing in their native tongue (Ukraine, France, Italy to name a few)
As @Kyriakou points out; this rule was scrapped specifically because it gave the UK, Ireland, and Malta (English), as well as France, Belgium, Luxemburg, and Switzerland (French) a severe advantage as they all had a broad international language as one of their official languages. Across all years, those two languages have won 66% of the time. Entrants are now free to use any language, including the use of multiple languages or even made-up or dead languages.
Honestly, I don’t like when countries choose English instead of their native language. Singers represent their own country and it is interesting to listen country through the song. I would like if countries choose their native language always

If people understood the lyrics this song is even more beautiful. They are basically singing about how mom is always forgiving and appreciating what mom has always done without asking anything in return.
The chorus means:
Stefania mum mum Stefania
The field blooms, but she is turning grey
Sing me a lullaby mum

Another great part translated:
She rocked me; gave me rhythm and probably the power of will; did not take, but she gave
Probably knew even more and from Solomon
I will always walk to you by broken roads
She will not awaken, won’t wake, me in strong storms

A few months after the Eurovision Song Contest they gave a concert, my friends and I went to the concert and waited for them for 5 hours! They were in a hotel nearby, and when they deigned to come to the concert stage, half of the audience had already left, because everyone was very tired of waiting and there were many people with children who were also tired and crying, and we also left. From my acquaintances who stayed there I learned that they did not even apologize. And a few hours before this concert they were asked to sing a song for children at a charity event and they refused because they wanted to be paid. I think the song it's cool but if they were representing another country I'm not sure they would have won... 439 points from the popular votes of 480 that are the maximum I think it's too much and unrealistic... I think there were some song that were better and in normal conditions UK, Spain or Sweden would have been the top 3
What a hit this song still is 2 years later. 😍
There should be a rule at the esc that every country has to perform a song in one of their official languages. This would actually make me watch it.
That rule used to exist but they got rid of it. I think it's fine as it is now because it acknowledges that many musicians write and perform in English to reach a global audience. That way its more about the music and less about the language. And you still have countries who usually sing in their native tongue (Ukraine, France, Italy to name a few)
Yes I agree with this so much. I’m from Ireland and I would love a song in Irish representing my country
Re-implementing that rule would put countries with widely-spoken official languages at an advantage.
I'd say they win because of whats happening in Ukraine, but nah, that flute piece is fire.
