Let's face it, this is one of the best entries ever at the ESC. Not everyone has to like it, and to be honest I liked the French one better, but the song is exactly what you want to see at the ESC: it's original, not sung in English and isn't a generic song that could come from any country; it combines traditional music with modern; it's rousing and offers a fitting presentation on stage. Congratulations to Ukraine for sending this entry, which was certainly not without risk.
My thoughts exactly. Songs like this are the main reason I even watch ESC, though they are far and few between. At least this makes them more impactful by contrast and grants a nice surprise factor, too.
When you see the symbolism behind it it's even more cooler. I think this is the most deep and beautiful Eurovision performance I've seen. Represents European culture perfectly..
Even after 2 years I am mesmerized by this song, performance, Kateryna, dancers, back vocals, screen, outfit, staging...EVERYTHING! I still watch it 5-6 times every week

Eurovision is supposed to celebrate the music and culture of all the European countries and, GOD, this is just it! Ukraine did a great job sharing its culture with the world.
It's a song to wake up the spring. People used to sing these many years ago, every year in the early spring, when they were planting first plants for food. They believed that if they call for the spring, the plants will grow better. She sings "I call for the spring, I hope she hears me. I'm sowing sowing sowing sowing the weed. I'm sowing sowing sowing sowing the green." I think the singer represents the woken up spring itself. Everything is cold and white yet, but here she is, still cold, but green already.
I am so so so proud of go_a and Ukraine for sending this entry. I’m from the U.K and for me this is what Eurovision is about - experiencing the music of other countries which shows their culture, vocals and uniqueness. This was certainly the most unique song this year and it was amazing. The vocals were enchanting. The outfits and staging were well thought out. And most importantly the song is not in English! I want other countries to sing in their native languages. Well done Ukraine! I voted for you 10 times! Love from the UK
Should have received more jury votes. Can't understand how they could not see amazing musical artistry in this. Traditional and modern, enchanting and daring!

@@Beau_Rivagetrue. a song from a pagan Old Slavonic ritual, for a better harvest. an interesting fact, after the release of this euro in Ukraine there was a record number of crops for export.
I did not understand a word but this got my heart pumping. Her voice, the look, and it sounded so traditional and modern at the same time. The kind of song that makes you stomp your feet. The audience went mad!
Greetings from Ukraine. ❤️🇺🇦May I help you with understanding? 😉 It is much more deeper and bigger then just words. It is calling of our (not only ukrainian) roots. Thats why all of us love it! I am sure you will feel this song better and deeper ☺️ This is a very old traditional song for invoking spring. The Shum (noise) in this song is a mythological personage, the spirit of the forest ( and his name Shum means sounds and voices of the forest) When people sing this song (it calls vesnyanka from the name of vesna - spring) , make noise and dance, they call on this spirit, and he rather brings spring. This is the meaning of this song. The tempo grows all the time, reaching a peak, as in ritual songs and dances of many nations. She sings that she sows hemp. And the dancers imitate sowing seeds in their hands. Hemp was very important to Ukrainians. They made clothes, oil, food, ropes, medicine and much more from it. The singer's green clothes mean the green fur coat of the spirit of the forest Shum (like a forest has green colour of leaves and grass) . Around her, the musicians form a kind of magic circle. And the dancers are holding circles of light. All these are symbols of the Sun . And the Sun rises on the stagescreen too. And then it explodes, crumbling into thousands of pieces. And the explosion of the Sun in the stagevideo reminds us of Chornodyl tragedy. And this means that nature is important for humans, that we need to be careful and respect it. The official video clip for this song was shot in Chornobyl (now its empty town that why it looks like postapocalyptic times),where the reactor exploded. This is symbolic, because wildlife is now being revived and renewed there. And the song itself also has roots in this region of Ukraine. People dancing near the singer symbolize the power of nature, which wakes up after winter and after any disasters. The solar rituals of invoking spring and the sun are not only in the Ukrainian tradition, but also in the traditions of many nations of Europe and the World. And this is what fights us closer to each other. Hope this information was interesting to you. With kind regards, Tanka.
@@ТанкаФоксова Such a beautiful message, sorry if my comment sounded in any way offensive. From the vocals I definitely get a sence of grandeur and mysticism, it's really one of a kind.

This song is basically the reason my mum finally understands why I love Eurovision so much, after 6 years I finally converted her into an eurovision fan!
I think this song is the best performance ever for different reasons. First, it tries sthg really impossible, which is to give an edgy and contemporary version of folklore, both in music through the flute and in vocals, with a high-pitched and slightly raspy voice. Man, everything you would spontaneously struggle with. But the electro background sounds so perfect and so balanced that it creates its own electro folkloric world. The staging is a bit too camp for me but here again, it is acted at 100%. So risky, so imaginative. It is folklore turned into a fururistic world. Super inspired, super creative, so mesmerizing.
12 points from Sweden!! This is my new favourite group, I was very pleasantly surprised to see that so many other viewers enjoyed it too! I'm Italian, so you can imagine how happy I am that we finally won, but Ukraine still had by far my favorite entry this year. It's not so often that you find a song that is as exciting, original and yet so intrinsecally tied to its country's culture as "Shum". This is all Eurovision is about, and I'm glad that we have a country like Ukraine that always sends sngs that stand out, even if one may not like all of them. The one thing I'm sad about is that it had to be the PUBLIC the one to recognize the uniqueness and quality of the song, while the so called professional juries mostly ignored it.
Sadly, I think juries had an intention to keep the next year competition within the EU borders due to unpredictable covid situation developement and vague travel perspectives...
Yes she got my vote, my second favourite was France and third Italy. The Jury isn't all that but televoting can be crappy as well. In essence all voting systems have their drawbacks, this mix of a jury and the public to me is the lesser of all evils.

I think that this song, its composition, the performance, the vocals, the staging, the culture associated to it... all that is paving the way for the future of the Eurovision Song Contest. This song has made a huge impact, I do not think they were even aware of it when they chose it to represent Ukraine thus year. That was a huge risk and now, if you add 2 rock songs in the top 10, 2 French songs, Manizha's energy and message, 2 quirky songs from Iceland and Lithuania, you get that this edition of the festival is a turning point in quality and diversity. Total elevation of the festival.
Unfortunately, I fear this won't be: in the French media, and probably everywhere else, they explain Maneskin's win (or Ukraine's or Finland's score) by the fact that "at Eurovision, people vote for what is unusual, not what they like to hear on the radio or in nightclubs the day after". I mean... to all those "commentators and journalists who obviously know us all better than we do", we would all change our tastes for one night, except for Barbara Pravi (or the Swiss guy) who absolutely deserved all the votes, y'see. I did enjoy Barbara's song, even if she was very nervous that night so definitely not the best version, but the song itself is good. But... so much contempt for what they refuse to see as THE MUSIC DIVERSITY PEOPLE WOULD LIKE TO HEAR ON RADIOS AND ALL, DAMN!
Plus, you also have Malta and Greece, both sending amazing 18-year old singers with perhaps generic but still really good songs. Those songs are still needed in the contest as well, and the 2 singers really elevated it. This top 10 must have been on of the best of the recent years, damn!
@@cecilesoufron7321 I agree. In my opinion Italy even didn't deserve to win, what a shity song. Ukraine, France and Switzerland with Malta were much better. I don't understand how Italy could win.

I'm sowing sowing sowing sowing the green."
I think the singer represents the woken up spring itself. Everything is cold and white yet, but here she is, still cold, but green already.

Greetings from Ukraine. ❤️🇺🇦May I help you with understanding? 😉
It is much more deeper and bigger then just words. It is calling of our (not only ukrainian) roots. Thats why all of us love it!
I am sure you will feel this song better and deeper ☺️
This is a very old traditional song for invoking spring.

Facts this was one of the bangers from Eurovision
This song is basically the reason my mum finally understands why I love Eurovision so much, after 6 years I finally converted her into an eurovision fan!
„One of us, one of us, one of us, one of us, one of us ….“ chanting
I think this song is the best performance ever for different reasons. First, it tries sthg really impossible, which is to give an edgy and contemporary version of folklore, both in music through the flute and in vocals, with a high-pitched and slightly raspy voice. Man, everything you would spontaneously struggle with. But the electro background sounds so perfect and so balanced that it creates its own electro folkloric world. The staging is a bit too camp for me but here again, it is acted at 100%. So risky, so imaginative. It is folklore turned into a fururistic world. Super inspired, super creative, so mesmerizing.

Maybe Eurovision will change the way the jury votes. At least I saw an article on the official website about it

Shum goes from Ukrainian mythology, ancient spirit of spring and forest. Also Shum it’s spring songs (like this one), dedicated to the spirits which has born (awakening) in spring. And there was dances, while singing spring songs, always with twisted hands, which also meant to knit Shum.
As if they came to Nottingham! How did I miss this. I this song I listen to daily and I love this artist now!
THIS is how you mix traditional and modern music in the best way possible

Tell em luff 😎
Thanks☺
This song received the second highest public vote numbers. Definitely deserved more from the jury. Epic song and performance. Best one this year!

@@mvirlios3855 I did. It makes it even better.
she should have wun. the european jury was ridiculous
My question is: how can she not vibe to it? She is standing still like she feels nothing which is impressive.
It is intentional, because She is The Slavic Witch not burned at the stake by the desert occupiers and her magic/her spells :)
She plays the role of Shum
@@slawomirmiroslaw2034 Excellent!
@@slawomirmiroslaw2034 Ukrainian! Only Ukrainian!

I do not think so,
She is as Slavic as Baba Yaga!
After this performance, Baba Yaga is very angry because the Witch from Ukraine may now be the most famous Slavic Witch in the world :)
For me, this is the most iconic performance of the last 10 ESC editions. When I think of Eurovision, I think of Shum and Kateryna Pavlenko.
2021 was a pretty memorable year already, but this song brought it to another level.
i wish everyone would sing in their motherlanguage it would be more interesting for me. I like this song greetings germany
Completely agree, and I say that as an English person.
@Ch Erry Lena - Satellite will change your mind. ESC winner 2010

Да. Тринити из Матрицы
Впрям уж "невероятным"?)
Песня-прелесть, солистка - медуза-горгона.

Крутой трек, добавил в плейлист!
Ukraine were the winners of my heart. This masterpiece will live long after the contest. Love from Iceland 🇮🇸
This is an old Ukrainian song performed during a spring ritual that calls for nature to wake up. "Shum" is a spring forest - as the rebirth of nature and life itself.
Considering that Kateryna, having only one lung, sings so magically, she is a Queen of song, she ist the Magical Soul of Ukraine!
@@nadiyahi What a beautiful meaning! I streamed this masterpiece on my spotify! Hope to visit beautiful Ukraine one day. Respect from Albania 🇦🇱
@@strokkuris6338 Culture is the best way of understanding between people on earth. Folk songs are the heart and soul of every nation. Ukrainians are very happy that the people of the world felt this in our song. Many thanks to GO-A and Katerina for their song magic! Welcome to Ukraine!
The real winner this. - armonious sounds unlike the screaming high notes of the rest. This song reminds me of something like indigenous North America Indians ballads - - -
@@nadiyahi Exactly! This is what the songfestival should be about, I’m so happy that Ukraine chose for this song and gave Europe the opportunity to get to know the Ukraine culture better! Cheers / Na zdorov”ya! 🤝
Watched it for the 1.000.000th time. Tomorrow I'll start the next 1.000.000. Best eurovision song ever.
She sings in her own language, and she also uses a traditional technique, i also love the lyrics and song in general... she should have been in a better position I think, the public saw her talent and gave her a well-deserved point. But I think jury and the Slav countries ignored her. Winner of my heart 🖤 this is what Eurovision should be; different and cultural... they should not sing the same brand US pop songs. Love from Turkey ❤️🇹🇷 I hope one day, we see each other in the esc again 🤞
Y E S - a dutchie, i realky really love this song
What..? Slavic countries loved her probably even more than other countries because this type of singing is literally our culture
@@mixmotion603 Well, judging by the evaluation of the competition, this is not obvious :/
@@MiriamFishmanArt then look at the comment section of this video, most of them are Slavs loving this song, writing in Cyrillic or English
@@mixmotion603 Well, points, men. Points. + Ukraine in Top spotify European's countries, not in Slavic. And scroll down the comments. Now in the top comments that were written recently. But earlier it was written mainly by Italians, the Netherlands and Germany. I'm just watching this
I think that this song, its composition, the performance, the vocals, the staging, the culture associated to it... all that is paving the way for the future of the Eurovision Song Contest.
Absolutely! If the participating countries take notes from the televotes this year, we might see an amazing 2022 line up of acts 🌟
So well put! I completely agree :)
@@cecilesoufron7321 I agree. In my opinion Italy even didn't deserve to win, what a shity song. Ukraine, France and Switzerland with Malta were much better.
I don't understand how Italy could win.

By far the best two Songs of the night with a honorable mention to Lithuania.
